Glacier Blue
** **"No Demetrius, you can't go in!" Damien Lovell whispered sharply as he landed on the railing behind the taller Husky, who was now standing on the cement flooring of Kevin's balcony in the dimly lit moonlight. "You'll get in trouble again!"
"I don't care; I need to speak to him!" He attempted to grab the glass doors handle but Damien swiftly jerked it back and held it tightly, spinning the stubborn Husky on his feet to meet his eyes. He stepped down and pulled him close.
"I'm not letting you have your second strike! You know exactly what Brook will do to you if you do something this stupid again. Let's just get back to work." Damien's eyes softened but his grip on Demetrius was hard as iron, he wasn't going to let the stubborn dog have his way again.
"I'm not doing a damn thing until I find out if he still loves me or not!" He growled and Damien almost let go if it weren't for his determination. Why won't the Husky listen?
"That was ten years ago, Demetri, you have to let go." Replied Damien, peering into the glass door and seeing Kevin sitting at his counter with his glow screen, doing something Damien couldn't understand, nor even wanted to.
"Don't call me that!" The Husky snapped and the Tiger's ears fell to the sides, his eyes full of shock. Shit... Damien forgot only the people he loved could call him by that name.
The Husky growled and shoved the Tiger away, freeing his wrist away from the iron grip and placing it on the door handle. When Damien caught balance it was already too late...
Demetrius slid open the glass door and stepped inside the apartment...
7 hours earlier
Kevin sighed and stared at the article on his computer screen, finally sending it to his editor for editing before being printed and published to the public eye. He didn't like writing about this topic, but since it was now New York's headlines he had no choice.
There was another murder in the past week, in an alleyway late at night in downtown New York. Something like this made Kevin fear for not only his safety, but for his sons. And Clarissa's too. The thought of his friendly neighbor getting attacked by thugs made the hair on his arms stand up, he didn't want to imagine such a horrible thought but writing about murders this week made his mind go into a dark reverie.
Clarissa Grey was one of the friends Kevin was happy to have in his life, especially since when he moved into his apartment she was there to help him move in. She loved kids and when she saw Skylar when he was only 2, she was hooked. Kevin owed her big time for helping in raising Skylar; sometimes the 4 year old would even call her Mommy, which made the two adults in the room awkward between each other. Especially when Clarissa wasn't Sky's biological mother.
Sometimes, when Skylar got sick, Clarissa was first on the scene to help. Being a registered nurses assistant, she had lots of medical background so Kevin knew exactly who to go to with rashes or even simple things like the flu.
She was amazing to him, her smile was radiant and infectious that it made the room light up like the morning sun shining through a skylight. Her hair was perfectly made, her lips always in a grin that it made him want to kiss them hard and passionately, and her body! God her body was so slim and perfect to put his hands on and just wrap his arms around so he could...
Wait a minute... What was my article about again?
Kevin shook his head and sat back in his chair, looking at the phone clock: 3:55... Hmm, works over already? He thought to himself as he swung his head back, shutting his eyes for a second before opening them again to find him staring at the window behind him upside down. Across the street, two figures stood on top of the opposite building, their clothing blowing in the wind. They looked familiar...
Snapping his body upright and spinning in his chair to look back again, they were gone.
Damien and Demetrius were getting good with the disappearing act now here in New York. They had to be good at it! Being seen in the human world was not an option to any anthro species and a very big rule to the Kingdom. Which Demetrius hated mostly because he was unable to speak with Kevin...
Every time he saw the Human his lungs would treat his heart like a punching bag, and it was not a great feeling to be not allowed to talk to the love of his life. Every now and then he would think about breaking the law and just simply burst in through Kevin's front door and pull him into a hug and kiss. He dreamed of that moment for 10 years! 10 fucking years! And now he wasn't allowed to even do that in real life because of a law from the Kingdom.
Last time he broke that law was a few nights ago, the first night he stood in front of Kevin, actually stood in front of! 5 feet away! It was the most amazing feeling that built inside the Husky's gut to even be near the Human, but he knew he couldn't be there for long... Damien pulled him away when his son woke up and slapped him a million times before heading back to their outpost by the pier.
Usually, breaking that law meant immediate punishment, but when word of Demetrius' foolishness got to the Leader, Brook Ivansgo, things got more complicated. After hours of lecturing and growling, the bulky Horse let the Husky go with a strike, seeing that Demetrius was one of the best fighters this clan has had yet. The war was what was important to Ivansgo, and worrying about the enemy's next move was all he had on his mind then.
"He's fine, Demetrius." Damien snapped the Husky out of his memory and back to reality as they stood on top of one of the buildings across from Kevin's work. They both stood tall with their black and gold armour shining in the afternoon light and their sharpened weapons sheathed in their sheaths on their backs snugly.
Demetrius sighed and looked back in the direction of Kevin's work, "I'm sure he remembers... I saw his face." His memory kicked in again, the night of when he first saw the Human in his apartment.
"He could have simply thought it was a burglar." Retorted the Tiger softy as her twisted his neck and cracked out the kinks lodged in his joints before looking back at those cold glacier blue eyes.
"Why won't you just believe me?" Demetrius whined a little but was suddenly interrupted.
"Damien, Demetrius!" A young voice called after them, and when both looked in the direction of where it came from, a young wide eyed soldier jogged up to the two taller men. "Captain Ivansgo wanted me to inform you of a possible scout sighting north of here. I've been passing the message along to everyone."
Logan Sparks, a small--young--red Fox wearing the same armour as the two taller men was panting for air; he was Brook's messenger for everyone and also a skilled fighter. His older brother, Luc, was also a soldier too and on the same clan, but was positioned east of their assigned sector of New York.
"Thanks, Logan. Good work"
He smiled at Damien's gratitude and ran past them with a nod, off to warn the others. Damien laughed lightly and turned back to his friend, "That's the third sighting we've had in three days! What's going on?"
Demetrius grunted and looked up at the sky, "They've been killing people more recently, I wish there was a way we could stop them..."
"Can't save everyone I guess, we'll just have to move on."
That made the Husky glare at his friend, but then shoved it off his mind and started north. He'll go look at Kevin later, his duty called first.
"Clarissa?" Kevin didn't even knock at her door as he just walked into her apartment and was immediately greeted by his son, who jumped into a hug. Kevin laughed at how cute he was and set him down, finding the angel following behind the four year old with a beautiful smile. His stomach flipped and his heart nearly shot out of his chest.
Angel suited her, he liked that nick name for her but he would never call her by it, that name seemed to...forward. Angels lived in heaven and they were stunningly gorgeous, and if that's the nick name for her than Kevin would love to hold onto her like as if he could hold onto heaven.
"Hey Kev," She followed Skylar's hug and held onto his jacket arm sleeves, "He was good as usual. A little angel, more like. I see where he gets it too." She smiled and looked up into his eyes. Did she just read Kevin's mind?
Wait, was that flirting? Should Kevin continue it? What should he say? Ahh, crap! Think of something. "I think he gets the angel part from you, miss beautiful."
WHAT WAS THAT!? Kevin screamed into his head and felt himself tense.
Clarissa blushed and smiled more, looking away and letting go of Kevin's sleeves, sinking into her height and retreating herself in some form of shell. Kevin's stomach flopped now; he needed to change the subject before the awkward ghost in the room looked at both of them with wide eyes forever.
"So what'd you have for dinner?" Dinner? That's all you can think of? Smart move, dumbass...
"Uhh," She cleared her throat and moved her hair behind her ear. God Kevin wanted to do that to her so badly! "Nothing, I don't have anything right now... I need to get groceries."
"You don't have anything? How about we go get some Chinese?" So now he's asking her to dinner?! Kevin mentally shot himself with an imaginary rifle multiple times before he snapped back to the situation at hand in front of him.
She blushed! Her face scrunching into an embarrassed laugh before the awkward ghost in the room came back to swoop in on the two. Can this afternoon get anymore awkward? Kevin just set himself up with something he never expected to get himself into and yet... he wasn't saving himself. He suddenly wanted this dinner date to happen. Wait a minute, should this even be a date?
She looked down at her hospital clothes, her face in a slight panic. "I'm not even ready!"
"I'd say you look very beautiful in anything you wear."
Okay so now the awkward ghost was in Kevin's personal space. Right now, jumping out of a window sounds appropriate for him...
Her face was almost the color of a cherry now, "Give me five minutes!" She retreated to her bedroom and shut the door behind her.
Holy crap, Kevin thought, this was really going to happen! Kevin wasn't really sure of himself yet but it appears the 26 year old actually asked the goddess next door on a date! He sighed and smiled as he put his hands on his hips, feeling that the landing out of the window will have an angel there to save him from making the biggest mistake of his life...
Damien kept an eye on his friend as they sprinted from building to building, soaring into the air and letting the setting sun wind breeze into their fur freely. They ran with such finesse and fluidity that they weren't even thinking of what was to come up ahead of them, they just knew they had to go north and scout for possible enemies in this sector of New York.
Demetrius was quiet though, it sort of surprised the Tiger to even run with him as the sun was setting. Being quiet and to himself was not like the Husky because at this point the topic would be on either the war or Kevin. The love of his life--or so he says. Not talking made Damien's mind wander into thought, and sure enough his mind processor brought the number one thing he loved in both two worlds to thought.
Gavin Nelson. The cute twenty-nine-year-old Racoon was most likely the love of his life, and the Tiger's heart even felt warm from the thought of Gavin's cute big eyes looking up at him. They sparkled in the light and his fur was just so soft that it reminded Damien of silk cloth. How this small racoon had such an impact in Damien's love life was unthinkable to everyone, but to him... It was just instantly perfect when the Racoon gave up his own bedroom for the Tiger to sleep in. He loved books, especially the fairy tale kind, the ones with princes saving the princess's from disaster. It made Damien smile while jumping another gap.
Gavin wanted a prince to pick him up and carry him to safety, but in this case safety was just another word for "Love me". Damien was that prince, and if that meant Gavin was the princess well... The Tiger would have to just get used to the whole dress topic...
He smirked at the thought of Gavin twirling in a pink dress, but then shook his head as that thought just struck a nerve somewhere in his pelvis.
Demetrius stopped.
Damien didn't register it until he was a few feet ahead of the Husky, who was now sniffing the air like as if he caught an apple pie scent. Damien sniffed, and suddenly felt his body tense from the stench he received in his nostrils. It wasn't good, it was dirty, bloody even, and especially evil smelling. The whole thing smelt wrong that it brought a taste to his mouth, almost making his gag reflex go off.
Neither of them liked it, and they knew they had just walked into a trap.
"Well, look what we have here." Suddenly, a raspy old voice started behind the Husky, who now reached up to his double sided sword strung to his back and unsheathed it. That voice was familiar, old and elegant as usual, but not so that the two warriors didn't recognize who it was from the start because of how the smell was now disguised with old royal blood.
He stepped out into view from the building they had just jumped from behind them, his cane clicking against the concrete roof and his shoes having to slide across with the sound. Both warriors finally looked in the direction of the familiar Rat, and felt their hearts sink into the darkest pit of their stomachs.
They were surrounded by goons, large ones with weapons glimmering in their hands. Humphrey, the old Kings--Alexander the Third--loyal assistant, stood smirking with his old tail flowing lazily behind him.
"I must say, boys, you aged quite... terribly." His voice sent shivers down the Tiger's spine as he unsheathed his double-curled daggers attached to his hip, readying himself in a defensive stance.
"Humphrey," Demetrius said cautiously, "Still old and ugly as ever."
Damien's eyes scanned the play field. They were surrounded from front to back, all goons standing like statues in the rose sunlight, there were at least six of them, each armed with chains or swords.
This wasn't going to be easy.
"Hmm," Humphrey grunted and looked at his claws, proving that those hurtful words had no affect to him. "And still one step ahead of you."
The Husky flicked his head back, his puzzled expression solidifying on his face as Damien kept his posture strong. "What's he talking about?"
Demetrius didn't answer. His face hardened on the old Rat's sad attempt to provoke him into a sword swinging fury.
"Have you not noticed that you two are the only two that showed up on this fine evening? Surely, Demetrius, your mind mustn't be eroded already from all that wretched human`s blood that flowed through your veins." Humphrey shown his toothy grin and snapped his clawed fingers, one of the goons beside him leaving the two warriors vision for a few seconds before returning with a bagged person squirming in the muscled Gator goon's grip.
Damien and Demetrius both stood staring at the squirming, screaming figure in the Gators grip, their entire mind set on defending themselves from the six goons now gone. Who was that captured soul?
Humphrey laughed and reached down to click a button on his cane, a skinny blade ejecting from the bottom, "A friend of a friend told me about a tattle tale in your clan who was ratting us out to your people." The old Rat chuckled again, but Damien felt that it was more so to his little pun than anything. "So I've decided to silence your little tattle tale and release him from his duty."
The Gator ripped the bag off of the captors head, and both Damien and Demetrius gasped as their eyes greeted a small bruised, bloody Fox.
Logan Sparks...
"It's a shame that I never got to get to know the little fighter; he took out two of my men before we got him to... settle down." Humphrey brought the end of his cane to Logan's chest, his teary eyed screams ripping through the air. His mouth was gagged with a dirty rag and his hands and knees were bound by chain, making every struggle more excruciatingly hopless.
"Wait! Humphrey stop, don't do this!" Demetrius lowered his weapon and attempted to walk forward, but the goons that surrounded him lifted their weapons, forcing the Husky to pause in his tracks. This cannot be happening, he's just a kid!
Humphrey's chuckle vibrated the two warrior's spines before breathing a long, raspy breath, his eyes darkening with an unknown look and turning to meet the little Fox's, "Should have stayed in Arella, kid."
And with one push, the dagger penetrated Logan's torso and punctured into his lungs, his scream screeching through his gagged mouth and his crying eyes looking straight into Demetrius'. The Husky screamed too, but there was nothing he could do to stop what had just played out in front of him. The look of fear and death was plastered in those innocent Fox's eyes, his mouth seeping his very own blood out the sides of the gag and even choking him. It was haunting...
When the old Rat withdrew his cane, the large Gator flicked Logan's bleeding corpse over the building's edge, disappearing from view.
"NO!" Damien cried, but it wasn't enough to bring back his friend. Logan was gone; there was nothing he could have done to stop it.
As Humphrey turned and walked away, the goons stepped back out of view as well. "Let this be a warning to both of you. Leave this world and don't come back, or else that will happen to a lot more people. And I'm sure you don't want any more of that on your hands."
He was gone, leaving Demetrius and Damien to fall to their knees in pure shock and horror. Suddenly this war for Earth just upped in its stakes...
"I really enjoyed this night." Clarissa smiled her angelic smile to Kevin in the glass elevator as they had just gotten back from their date. Skylar had passed out on the ride home, so that only left Kevin to carry his son into the building and up to bed.
It wasn't a date! It was just hanging out... He thought, but even he knew that was a simple lie. Clarissa did not wear her cherry red dress and shoes to just go and "Hang Out". This was a date, admitting it or not, Kevin couldn't lie to himself forever.
"No problem, I had lots of fun for just going out to a Chinese resturant." He replied nervously, shifting Skylar a bit so he could turn to see her eyes.
She laughed, and blinked her eye lashes, "I'll help you drop him off to bed. It's the least I could do for paying...again."
"You don't have to, you can go to bed if want. I'm sure you're very tired." Did he just blow her off?
"I insist."
And that's all she said before the silence stepped in and took over. Both of them glued their eyes to the view of the city before reaching their floor and getting to Kevin's door.
Kevin was about to shift his hand free to reach into his pocket for his keys before they were invaded by a foreign one. Clarissa smiled and felt around a bit before pulling out the noisy keys, shoving it into the lock and opening the door. Kevin blushed and walked passed her, turning to thank her before they both walked into Skylar's room, getting him out of his day clothes and into his PJ's so they could gently lay him in bed.
"He's so peaceful looking." She smiled and flicked on his night light, turning to face Kevin staring at her from the bedroom door.
"What?" She asked, but Kevin laughed.
"Nothing," He replied, "Just watching."
"I hope it's something good, Mr. Justice." She smirked as she followed him out of Skylar's bedroom.
"Of course, Miss Grey,"
They walked into the living room and instinctively Kevin turned to look at her as she carried on further towards the balcony doors. Staring into New York City's lights and flashing neon signs brightening the streets below, Kevin was reminded of a moth seeking a light bulb and laughed to himself this time.
"You're view is still better than mine." She looked over her shoulder, her hair moving to expose her bare back. Kevin suddenly liked this red dress, but also he liked the thought of it hitting the floor too.
"But you have the view of a dog park, who couldn't like that?" Kevin smiled and walked up behind her, looking over her head and out the window. He suddenly smelt that perfume he like from the car when they went to parent-teacher interviews, and inhaled it more deeply.
"But you have a city view, with brightly lit buildings and shiny neon lights... It's all so beautiful." She sighed and ignored Kevin's presence behind her, distracted by the life outside the glass doors.
"I have a nice view in front of me that I'd rather be looking at right now instead of the city." And that's when he did it, he made the first move of the night, he placed his arms around her waist and pulled her close to his body. He was shocked by his sudden bravery, actually, it must have been the intoxicating perfume but he didn't care at this point. Sinking his face into her neck, he took another smell.
Clarissa blushed and her eyes suddenly went wide as this act of romance caught her off guard. But to her amazement--and Kevin's--she didn't pull away. She allowed the strong arms to wrap around her and hold her against his warm body... she suddenly felt her belly muscles clench in a familiar desire for Kevin. It's been so long since she had this human contact from someone, and Clarissa wasn't going to give this up...
Twisting in Kevin's grip, she faced him with exploring eyes and brought her arms to wrap around Kevin's neck. He was exploring too, his eyes looking at every small detail on her face before looking at those lips.
She noticed his wanting desire and complied. Standing on her toes, she put her lips to Kevin's.
They walked back from where they witnessed their friend's death and finally reached their sector by night fall. Demetrius was shaking and Damien really couldn't blame him as something like this really affected the Husky. Death wasn't something to see in their average--no, fucked up--days of patrolling, so this too affected the Tiger. Logan's body was gone as expected. When an Anthro suddenly loses their life, their body is immediately transported back to Arella when the Gateway is opened at night. There was no saving the Fox anyhow; right now he will be in good hands with his fellow soldiers back home.
"I need to see him..."
The Husky choked out and Damien wasn't stupid to catch onto whom he was talking about. "Now? Demetrius, we should head back to base and tell Brooks what happened. He can wait can't he?"
"No," Demetrius said coldly, "It can't. I have to see him, he's the only thing that will make my head clear." He started in Kevin's apartment direction and Damien growled to himself as he ran to catch up to him.
"Fine, but let's not be long, okay? We have to get back soon."
It took them five minutes to reach the building opposite of Kevin's balcony, and Damien was tired of having to come to the same place every night before they went to base. They both knew the rules of Human contact and apparently to Demetrius, that rule didn't exist in his books. The Tiger never hated Kevin, but after a few weeks of coming to the same spot every night, it got irritating.
"He's probably asleep, Demetrius." Damien looked up at the Husky, whose eyes were wide and his mouth gaped wide open. He was taken off guard? How? He followed his gaze in the direction the Husky's and immediately found out why...
Shit...
Clarissa groaned into the kiss, her back against the glass and her right leg wrapped around Kevin's hip, their kiss deepened into something fiercer. Kevin's hands were exploring her back side now, he couldn't really decide whether to put them on her butt and lower back, or lower back and upper. Either way, he was enjoying the feel of everything she had on her body, it made him want more.
Soon after, Clarissa groaned and pulled her lips free from Kevin's, their lips damp with saliva, "Kevin," She said softly with a smile, "I think we should take it slow first."
Smiling, and a little disappointed, Kevin understood. This was their first date, and Clarissa wasn't really the "First Date Fuck" kind of girl anyway. Kevin liked how she knew herself like that and pecked her lips one more time before grabbing her hands and lightly kissing each knuckle individually, his eyes locked onto hers the whole time.
"Thank you... For the great night." He said softly as they both walked to the front door. "Shall we do this again? The date that is." They both flushed red and laughed.
"Yes, absolutely..."
Kevin opened the door for her, but was interrupted by another kiss. They wrapped their arms around each other tightly and held onto their bodies like as if it was the only thing they had left to hold onto. Their passion shown bright in their hearts, their minds, and their body's, and even though the door was open wide for them to be seen, they didn't care, everyone was asleep now anyway. Who would be awake this time of night?
Parting their lips again, they still held on, placing their foreheads together. "I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked, panting.
"Yes, absolutely."
They kissed again, more deeply this time but not too long like the previous one. Clarissa finally hugged Kevin and stepped out of the apartment, closing the door behind her.
Kevin sighed and stared at the door for a few seconds before returning slowly back into the living room. His laptop was left open on the counter.
Suddenly, he was reminded of Dr. Ada's advice about writing a book about his crazy, imaginary thoughts about something he imagined 10 years ago. He laughed to himself, since he was wide awake now he thought that now would be a good a time as ever! He just kissed the girl he wanted to kiss for a while, he even still felt his lips tingling from it.
Letting out a happy breath, he sat down at his computer and opened the document to write in. His mind maybe still blurred from what just happened but he didn't care. He was happy, now. Really happy. He didn't think anything could change that at this moment.
But that was before he heard his sliding glass balcony doors open behind him sharply. And when he turned to look at how it opened, he was left greeted with a large figure standing in its doorway, their glacier blue eyes boring ice cold holes into his own and sending chills down every nerve in his body.
He knew immediately who it was by those eyes and felt his muscles numb at the sudden realization.
Demetrius Crawford.
He's real...
