Second chapter in the story, not much more for the time being, but we'll see where it goes.

It had been a normal day so far, just like any other. The teacher droned on about some war I didn't care about. Some scientist hated the world and basically destroyed it. 'Big deal,' I thought to myself. 'It's been almost 480 years; who cares about that anymore?' Although the more interesting event happened about 37 years before that; the birth of my race, a race of anthropomorphic creatures. A smaller war before the War of Ruins ( the War of Ruins being the one I didn't care about) was why I was in this class. It was a war of technology, using high level sciences to develop gene-mutating serums and devices. Atrocities were common place in that age, until an accident while using the one device on the battle field created our ancestors.

My own clan, the Serin-Nurrillin, were a species of ferrets that were, above all, cunning and intelligent.

Since the Day of Originiation, we creatures have done our best to live in peace with the humans, though some sects still harbored ill will against us.

"Narien!" I snapped my head up to stare at the owner of the voice that called my name. It was my clanmate Luke, that many said looked exactly like me. Teachers often called me Luke and him Narien, and I found it quite comical. I smiled at him and headtilted in question.

"Hmm? What's up Luke?" I asked.

He pointed around me at the room of empty desks. "School's over, Nari. Didn't you hear the bell?"

I almost fell out of my chair in embarrassment. I had been spacing out again. I took in a deep breath and sighed as I picked up my dark blue messenger bag. "No, I didn't hear it. Again."

Luke let out a small chuckle as he followed me out the door, walking out into the near empty hallway. "That's just like you Nari. Always lost in thought." He moved up beside me and draped an arm about my shoulders, making me smile.

I playfully turned my head and licked the paw that hung around my shoulder, giggling as I did so. He responded with another chuckle as he gave me an affectionate squeeze. With a sigh of contentment, I strode along under his arm out the front door of the school, into the parking lot, and to his car. As soon as we reached the standard Government-manufactured, blue 2-door sedan, he dropped his arm from around my shoulders and reached into a pocket of his light blue jeans to withdraw a set of keys attached the the key ring of a small device. With a double-tap of a button on the small device, both doors of the car unlocked with an electronic beep, and I slipped around to the passenger side. I opened the door and slid into the seat, holding my bag in my lap, as he got in behind the wheel. He inserted the key into a slot on the dashboard and turned it, bringing the engine whirring to life. He pulled out of the parking space and navigated through the lot out onto the main road.

I sunk down a bit in my seat and leaned my head against the door, thinking about my dream the night before. That vixen thought I was Luke, which didn't surprise me much. But other than that...I wasn't sure what to make of it.

I heaved another sigh and turned to look at my clanmate. The majority of his soft fur was pure white, save for the tip of his long tail, though most of the fur was covered by his red t-shirt and jeans. It was like looking in a mirror almost, except that he was an inch or so taller than me. I continued just watching him until I yawned, the noise making him glance over at me and grin. I looked away with a blush and closed my eyes.

"What was it this time?" Luke spoke with his soothing voice. I turned and headtilted in question. He continued. "It was Dani again, wasn't it?" I nodded quietly as a response. "She's gone, Nari... She abandoned us. What ever happens to her, it's her own fault. It's hard, I know. But I'm here for you."

Silence reigned for the remainder of the trip, and around fifteen minutes later Luke pulled the car into the driveway of the house we shared with our family. I opened my door, grabbed my bag, and stepped out of the car, letting the door swing shut again.

Malevolence - An Introduction

Ideas flowed through my mind as my eyes darted between the vixen standing before me and the door just behind her and the .357 revolver held firmly in the paw of the female. Tears streamed down the vixen's cheeks as she faced me with her ears pressed...
