Escape

Tick. Tick. Tick.

My ears flick to the sound as I slowly regain conscious, prying my eyes open while my head is throbbing away.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Ugh... where am I? I can't see anything much... other than a door in front of me. Where's the light? My head hurts a little; I wish it will just go away. I want to move my paws to massage my aching head, but I can't move much... Restrains? Why am I cuffed? What's going on?

I try to force myself out of the restrains but I can't. Why am I contained here? Instincts tell me to get out of here, but I can't move much! I try to squirm my way out, but it's impossible as well. Why am I...?

Tick. Tick. Tick.

What's that ticking away anyway? I sniff at the air; it smells damp, mossy and somewhat decaying. Whatever is ticking is probably water?

I should get out of here and find answers. I can't remember anything; my mind is entirely blank. I'm just going on my instincts. I know I should get out of here. Anyone with a sane mind will probably agree; I'm being restrained, how good a situation can I be in?

I try a few more times before I start to panic. I tug against the restrains frantically; I need to get out of here! After trying a little more, I decide that pure strength isn't going to set me free. Will someone open the door? How long have I been here? Why can't I remember...?

I grit my teeth in annoyance. The idea of being restrained mentally and physically irks me. I don't know whether to make noises or not, though I believe I shouldn't. Causing a commotion will just drop my chances of escaping. So... what to do now? Wait?

I feel numb all over, how long have I been in this position? I try to stretch my body in hope to seek some comfort. That's when I feel my claw scraping against something... smooth and cold? Sniffing again, the air seems chilled. Even the water isn't dripping as fast as before. Where did the sudden drop of temperature come from? Am I being watched?

That can't be possible, no one is here. Could it be... me? The coolness feels somewhat familiar, like I've done things like this before.

Upon instinct, I close my eyes and focus on the cold. I grasp the freezing feel and mentally apply it on the metal restrains. As I predicted, the restrains around my limbs starts to turn very cold even under my fur; and fog is coming off the metal.

With a swift motion, I yank my arms and the metal cuff with its chain comes off the wall, with a small crash. Great. Using my claws, I manage to pry myself out of the metal cuffs by shattering them. Giving my claws a satisfied click, I wonder what to do next to get out of here.

Studying my surroundings, I'm in some sort of a dungeon. Moss crawl all over the walls, and the drips of water seem to come from a large leaking pipe, making puddles of water everywhere. One thing is I absolutely have nothing on. My captors must have no thought for my modesty. The only light source that enables me to pick out such faint images is a small crack on the stone wall on the side of the ceiling.

The door is my only route isn't it? I certainly can't break though a stone wall with my strength... Might as well just go with the door then; though I expect it to be locked.

Wait.

My ears flick as I hear footsteps approaching. I stand back from the door towards the largest puddle of water, just in case.

I faintly hear mumbling and jingling of keys. A click and the doorknob turn.

Stepping into the room is a male human, armed with some metal pipe with a handle on his back. Whatever that weapon was, he looks shocked and horrified, like he has never seen an evolved wolf before. Sensing that he is going to reach for his weapon, I use my new found powers to stop him. I quickly motion the water towards his right hand as it reach towards his back, and freeze it, encasing his hand and the handle of the weapon in ice.

I probably should have froze his mouth instead, because the next thing he did is to scream and holler for help. I pull that man in and shut the door, stuff his mouth with some ice, take off his pants and froze his limbs together, then got to thinking about how to escape. To fight off the people, I can use my freezing power. To get ice, I need water. I can't guarantee that water is abundant out there. So to get water here...

That's when I remember the dripping pipe, and I got to work immediately. No time to waste now the alarm is sounded; the thundering footsteps telling me that reinforcements are arriving didn't help either. Too bad for that guy, I get to wear his pants, lucky he isn't that big sized. Focusing again, I summoned icicles from each puddle of water that I can find and shot them at the pipe.

Luckily for me, the pipe is easy to break through. Water immediately gush out from the holes that I've made. Perhaps I've overdone it; the room is actually flooding faster than I expected. The man squeals in fear for whatever reason, I don't know. Then the door opens, revealing two more men, but this time they have their weapons ready.

I reach out my paw and conjure a shield just in time to block the pressure from those metal rods; apparently those things shoot things at high pressure. Not allowing them to decide, I summon those icicles again and pierced their limbs. Nothing fatal, just preventing them from chasing me. With water flowing freely out of the room, I have higher chances of escaping here. But just in case I run out of water... I decide to hold an ice ball with the size of a large chicken coop, both as a shield and an emergency backup.

I touch the surface of the water with my paw, where a soft sizzle is to be heard and I am shrouded in mist, to act as a diversion. I summon an ice spear to wield myself, and set off from the room.

As I run along the corridors, I have no idea where I'm going. For one thing, the empty rooms never have windows just like mine. Could I be below ground level? But where did the light from the crack come from then? Whatever it is, I should just get as high as possible in here.

Three more men rush towards me. I react and toss the ice ball at them, knocking them away like bowling pins. Those men can't exactly see me, so I take the chance and stab two of them in their thighs, and crush the last person's leg with my ice sphere. I left them to moan at their injuries, there's no time to spare.

The stairs are within sight, but if I climb up higher, won't I be out of water? Meaning I won't be hidden by the mist I've made... Deciding not to care first, I speed up the stairs and fight the people who stand in my way. The thing is, all I've seen so far are only humans, and all of them seem to only know how to carry that metal thing.

Moving up a level, there are only two ways to move from there. I couldn't make a decision; more people start to chase me from both ends. I turn to the right and knock them back with my useful sphere, and then duck as one raise his metal rod and attempt to shoot me. Leaping as fast as I can, I barely escape by slamming a door in their face.

The corridors are never ending. Stairs after stairs, spears after slashes, I begin to feel exhausted. Those pesky humans won't tell me the way out even though I purposely avoided attacking their vital places or threaten them. Maybe I should start killing them now. Compassion will only be taken advantage of.

That's when I run into what seems like the main hall. About three stories high covered with glass windows only at the top, where I'm sure sunlight is shining: escape is near. Surprisingly elsewhere in the hall have no windows.

But I'm in the freaking main hall. There's got to be eighty of them staring at a wolf that is supposedly their prisoner, panting away with some blood stains; with a spear and a ball in hand.

The next few moments are utter chaos. Shouts everywhere and weapons are drawn. But they can't shoot freely without risking injuring their fellow people. I try my best to fight my way through the confusion, but fail miserably as one of them tackles me from behind, and many others topple on me as well, as though trying to squash me to death, making me lose control of my conjured ice.

The weight of the stinking men makes me bark in anger; one even pulls my tail! They stink and I can't fall just like this!

I need water, or ice, anything fluid!

I howl in desperation and will any form of water to help me. Just let me out of here!

I divert all my concentration to use my mind and yell for water, mentally asking for help.

That's when the weights on top of me suddenly got lighter and lighter. Is someone rescuing me? Or is it already over for me?

I blink in bewilderment as I watch all of them run away from me towards higher ground for some reason. The ground below me seems to be vibrating, like a mini earthquake.

Things just happen so fast. Water crashes from the back of the hall, where I previously arrive from. It's like a tidal wave, washing and destroying everything in its ways. I couldn't react in time and got caught in the waters. I did ask for water, but not so much!!

Focusing all my might, I attempt to stem the flow by freezing the water.

Much to my surprise, I realise the water around me slow down into a halt. Using my claws, I hack my way out of the surrounding ice.

I break free from my encasement to see that I've almost literally freeze the water in the entire floor. Hell, I didn't know I was that good.

"Oh no you don't!" Someone shouts out. I turn to the direction, only to hear another boom, and I flinch, followed by a burst of pain.

That distraction is what they needed which almost cost my life. I avoid a fatal wound, but nonetheless, I still got shot in the abdomen. Blood is slowly pouring out as I attempt to stem the flow with me right paw. I gotta get out of here, and fast.

I swirl my left paw and raise it up, reforming the ice around me into a giant spike pointing towards the side of the top windows, and on top of that, I clasp my hands, and a protective layer of ice surrounds me, like a turtle shell. Now, I just need to run up the spike and burst out from there.

Ignoring my wound, I leash out all claws from my paws and sprint my way up in all fours. There's no time to waste. I can hear many cracks as their shots hit against my ice layer. The layer is only temporary. With enough hits, it may shatter, leaving me vulnerable.

Throughout the journey, I hear the same man who shot me shouting orders. He seems to be the leader. Damn, I should have shot him back.

I am halfway there when I hear a very loud crack, telling me that my shield is not holding as long as I hope. I urge myself to go faster, ignoring the slight tear of my wound. Pain course through my body as I move on; so much that I want to swear out loud, but I can't waste energy.

Leaping towards the tip of the spike, my ice layer shatters. I close my eyes and brace for the impact. Luckily, I make it just in time to burst out of the window, suffering only a graze on my arm.

But I didn't expect myself to be so high up.

Why is the freaking building built on a cliff?

My leap had taken me off the cliff, diving straight into the rapid waters below. From such a height, I'm probably not going to survive. I'm bound to hit the rocks below.

Feeling the cool winds blowing as I fall, up to the point that my eyes are almost tearing, I give up and brace for death.

Because another thing I realise, I'm super exhausted. I just ran a little; my mind shouldn't be so tired from the physical exhaustion. It's like my mind can't focus or think. I'm falling physically, but mentally as well. I close my eyes and lost consciousness...
