The Rich and The Poor Part 4

Part 4 of my The Rich and The Poor series
(Yuuta's view)
The whole night I was miserable not only in body but in heart and mind. Yesterday Castiel and I challenged the other to a fight because we simply wanted to truly bury the hatchet of our rivalry of the past. We were both fighters and that simply how we do things.
It feels like that's the only way we can truly get along but why...why do I feel so guilty and hurt? During the match well...we sure did a number on the other. Castiel left the castle that day without muttering a single word when he left when I went upstairs to my room, angry and frustrated with myself that I did such a thing.
My injuries were no joke, I wouldn't dare try to rub it into Castiel's face, not that I even would since we're friends now...or at least I hope we are. That night I had to keep my injuries a secret and tend to them myself. If the servants heard about me getting into a fight and getting hurt I would never be allowed to see Castiel again or more likely knowing my father's punishment Castiel would be jailed.
I wasn't angry at him! I really wasn't! I was actually happy and proud of him! He's certainly no weak peasant, that arm bar move was a move taught to me to only use when everything else failed!
I've never had to fight like that in my life! I was exhausted beyond all belief after the match, I couldn't believe I managed to find the energy to go up to my room and flop down on my king sized bed that had the finest silk pillows and thickest sheet blankets in all of Riften.
The comfort and touch of the bed did nothing for my aches in my heart and body. In the middle of the night I woke up to check them out. When I hold and push my fur away to show my skin I found bad looking bruises and some cuts just like Castiel's. But once again I have a small advantage over Castiel...I had fur to hide my injuries, he didn't.
I bet people are definitely going to wonder if he got into a fight with me and I have no idea what he'll say back. I hope he denies it but I couldn't imagine him admitting that he lost against me. In fact I bet he'll say that he that he completely kicked my butt and all he got back was a bruise. It wouldn't upset if he lied like that because I know the real truth and that I wouldn't want him to feel inferior again.
I hate it when others try to bring him down now. In the past I would have reveled in anyones participation in bringing him down but now I feel the complete opposite. He's an excellent fighter and deserves praise. Despite having nothing he does better than those with nearly everything and almost beats me! No Castiel is a good person and he'll want to keep his honor intake...it's all he has left.
When I woke up and got dressed I walked to school and I was greatly saddened that Castiel wasn't there to greet me with an apple and our conversations. What was I thinking challengeing him to a fight? Aren't we friends? What kind of a friend hurts another during a fight? Haven't we fought enough in the past?
All these questions swam around in my head as I went into school and I saw Castiel sitting where he usually sits and he didn't look at me. My tail swong happily at the sight of him but then it slumped down in regret when I saw his arm. His arm was in a awkward position and I knew that my move put a lot of strain and pain on him. I wanted to go talk to him right there and tell him I was sorry about hurting him and that I would even allow him to hit me freely but that would be risking our cover as rivals though.
I was going to have till after school to tell him that. Of course others noticed Castiels injury and looked at me thinking I was responsible for it. The poor gave me glares but also seemed sad...Castiel was like their champion, their idol, their hero and I hurt him simply because of a little fight. The richer students smiled evilly at me thinking I was responsible aswell, they were right of course, BUT-not in that way!
The first classes went by and I noticed that Castiel wasn't talking to anyone. I tried in one class to get him to insult me but he didn't say anything.
"Hey Peasant. Where did you get that injury? Not even strong enough to lift the dirt you live on and the dirt you are anymore?" I said as Castiel didn't look at me. H-He just looked into his book and ignored me with a sad distant face.
My heart strained and ached as he sat there and said nothing when I first insulted him. So I decided that even though it might risk my cover I wouldn't insult for the rest of the day. My tail was basically being dragged on the floor in regret and depression of what I did to Castiel.
It was gym class and sadly they were doing the one thing that Castiel couldn't do now...lift weights. Castiel only had one arm and the only words he spoke were.
"I'll just stay in the library for gym." He said to the teacher...He would be all alone in the library? I knew there were worst fates but why is my heart straining so much seeing him suffer? Were these really feelings for a friend? No matter I should what was best.
"Teacher...I would like permission to study in the library for gym." I said to her as she raised an eyebrow but did it anyway.
The library here was a nice sized library and unlike the ones in my castle they actually contained useful things. I decided now was a good time as ever to apologize to Castiel. I don't know if I could wait till after school!
Castiel was buried in his books as I sat next to him playing with my fingers and claws as my tail curled around in all positions possible thinking of a way to apologize. Castiel looked at me with calm expressionless eyes as my mouth went dry but I found the strength to say.
"Castiel, I'm so sorry for what I did to you. I was pathetic and cowardly to use that move against you. That move was barely legal and it was a move I was taught never to use unless necessary. Castiel you fought and gave me hell in that ring and I greatly respect you for it. I wouldn't dare challenge you to another fight because....well...look for yourself." I said lifting up my shirt slightly and pushing away my fur to show my purple and blue bruises. I also looked around to make sure no one was watching and thankfully the library was empty except for the librarian
They certainly were painful to touch and a pain to deal with.
"Castiel...if your still mad at me...I-I'll let you hit me...or-or even if you don't want to be friends anymore I-"I said before Castiel rose up his book and tapped his hard against my head. It wasn't meant to hurt but more like to shut me up, like a teacher does to silence a student.
"I'm not mad Yuuta. I was debating heavily in my mind if I wanted to fight you still and you won fair and square like I said. Sure the arm is a pain but I was kinda expecting it...But there are some conditions I demand if we're going to be friends." He said as my tail went into a stiff position like when my father gave me orders.
"Anything Castiel, name them" I said
"First never suggest that I should hit you in order to get revenge...we're friends Yuuta and nothing is going to change that...even if I have to force you. Second...Never even think about not being friends, your one of the few people who deserves respect around here Yuuta don't forget it. Third I believe we should hang out more after school, I would love it if you came to some of the places I go to in low town to have fun and I was amazed by your castle and would love to visit more and LAST!...you're going to teach me that arm bar move." He said with a smug smile as we both started to chuckle.
Eventually the chuckling went into suppressed laughter until the librarian told us to be quiet and we managed to stop ourselves. We took a few breaths before I looked at him and shook his good hand.
"Deal" I said as my tail started to wag happily about again.
I felt so relieved that Castiel wasn't angry at me. I was so scared that he hated me now but I couldn't care now. I had a friend and we already had plans to hang out after school.
(Castiel's view)
I told Yuuta of a place I go to order drinks and listen to bard music. Yuuta seemed shocked to realize that I drank alcohol a bit but never too much! I learned my lesson long ago. Years of losing takes a toll on your mind and people say that drinking eases the guilt...well I tried and I had a hangover and felt like crap not to worth it in my opinion
I was actually shocked that Yuuta has never drunk alcohol before. He says he hardly ever takes a sip of wine at royal parties for fear that it would lead to bad health. True many have over done it but I see no problem in a cup or two. I think this would be a nice experience for Yuuta.
Before I we went into low town again I remembered what those 3 kids said to me yesterday. I wouldn't want a problem to arise in low town and those kids would immediately tell me to fight Yuuta if they saw his true identity....something my arm was telling me not to do, ever again.
So I went into low town and came back with some of the best robes I could find. Yuuta insisted that he pay me back and after a little argument I reluctantly took some gold from him. The most important feature of the robes were how thick yet loose fitting they were. Yuuta's tail could move around freely while it also covered up his fur. Another and probably the most important feature was the hood that came along with it. It was excessively large which only made it better for him to hide behind it.
Just in case things got bad in low town Yuuta and I came up with a cover story for him. It was simple but sweet. He was a traveler that came into town to look for work. Many people were traveling around these days since the roads have been clear of bandits for years now. The Michaels sure now how to keep their roads and cities safe! There hasn't been an attack against Riften for over 200 years.
As we walked down the streets Yuuta tested himself to see if he remembered all that I told him about low town 2 days ago. He did pretty well, a few minor errors but dead on. I guess since he is a Michael he is the best of the best. As we walked along the street Yuuta started to ask me questions.
"So where is this bar we're going to Castiel? Do you think no one will recognize me?" He asked seeming a bit nervous.
"It's a small bar called Farmers Retreat, it's a descent place and the people are friendly...at least until they had one too many but they have many bouncers to take care of business. When I opened the door I saw some of the farmer's raise their glasses at the presence of me. I also greeted them back and we had our way of shaking hands or pats on the back.
We were a simple people but friendly and loyal to those we know. As much as I wanted Yuuta to get to know these people his position in society wouldn't allow it and the farmers may not take kindly to a prince taking what little drink they have.
I lead Yuuta to the front of the bar and he hid his face deeper into the hode. I wanted to tell him it was alright but he had good reason to be frightened. The bartender came up to us with his friendly old man smile.
"Hey there Castiel! Back from school are we? Well sit back and relax as I get you and your friend here something nice to drink...you want the usual right?" He asked going for some glasses.
"Yep and same with my friend here." I said motioning to Yuuta sitting to the left of me.
The bartender smiled and after a moment in the back came out with two light brown drinks that had a little bit of foam at the top.
"Here you go, on the house!" He said as I was about to say no he raised his hand to stop me from being humble.
"Absolutely not Castiel. You won't be paying any money here! Not with all you've helped me with! You deserve a few drinks for free." He said as I nodded my head. We always had arguments about wither if I should pay or not...except I was the one who insisted to pay while he refused me.
I helped him out more than once, lifting barrels of mead and food for him, cleaning up the bar, or helping some relatives of his. I shook my head and reluctantly agreed again.
"Fine but as long as my friend doesn't pay either. Hes a good man like me." I said as I suddenly felt Yuuta's tail brush against my back but he quickly managed to control it. The bartender nodded and we back to our drinks.
I picked up the cold glass drink and swallowed down the slightly salty but foamy and delicious drink. There wasn't much alcohol in it but it was still a drink and Yuuta was carefully examining his. His tail was once again darting about wondering what was in the drink before I grabbed onto his tail which made him jump up in surprise and he looked at me nervous still.
"Its alright friend. It isn't that strong of a drink! Trust me just a sip." I said patting on the back as Yuuta cautiously lifted the drink to his muzzle and looked around one last time as he drank a little sip. I couldn't help but chuckle at the baby like sip he took.
Suddenly his eyes went wide and his tail puffed out in delight. He quickly drank down the beverage like it was water and licked the foam that formed a little moustache around his nose. I could see a happy and excited face behind his hode as he was anxious for another.
As I began to drink mine I felt someone sit down next to me on the left. Eventually a little drinking party surrounded me and they were staring at my arm that was hurt during the fight. I sighed knowing this would happen but I wouldn't lie...I know what happened.
"Wow Castiel! What happened to your arm?! Did some hurt you? Did you injure yourself?" One of the elderly asked me as Yuuta turned to face me but I gave no heed to his attention. I didn't want to look directly at Yuuta because they would suspect he did it...but I guess in way I shouldn't lie to my drinking buddies.
"Well, yes I did get into a fight....with Yuuta" I said as they leaned in more closely amazed to hear what I said. In this bar my rivalry with Yuuta was the talk of the day. Like I said before we were the battling opposites, the Rich and the Poor....little did they know the complete opposites were sharing a drink together in the same bar as friends.
"What really?!"
"Why wasn't I there to see it?!"
"You must have destroyed him, didn't you Castiel!"
"Yeah! No person could hurt Castiel like that!" They were all saying to me and the other. I sighed and shrugged my shoulders...I had no reason to lie with them.
"Yep, I fought Yuuta and...sorry guys but I lost, bad. I swear he was kicking my butt up and down the street really. I let you all down I know." I said as they all slumped down in depression and so did I. I wasn't about to lie in front of Yuuta or the others, I lost bad and I-
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Yuuta's tail puff up but this time in anger or upset about something...what did I say wrong? I couldn't have possibly offending in that way.
"I think your lying." Yuuta said as the group went quiet.
"What?" We all said to the hooded man but Yuuta kept his face hidden still.
"Don't lie about things like that Castiel. I saw that fight and there was no way Yuuta walked away from that uninjured. In fact I saw him collapse in exhaustion minutes later after the fight. You're only covering for him because you were honor bound to tell everyone that. I saw everything Castiel and you were certainly the toughest opponent he ever faced." Yuuta said as the others cheered for the hidden Yuuta comment and I sat there in disbelief...he-he lied for me? What was he doing? Was he just trying to be humble? I felt my heart...ache but not in pain but like...comfort in some way.
During our time in the bar we drank several more drinks and listened to the bards play music until 8 PM. During that time it felt like...all differences and past hatreds were put aside. Many of the man started to tell tales about heroism and courage as did Yuuta and I, I was thankful that no one really put any pressure on Yuuta to show his face...it felt like true peace acceptance between social classes. Yuuta and I went out of the bar together and we were a bit tipsy but we managed to walk on two feet.
As much fun as we had during our time in the bar there was something bothering me. Why did he cover for me? He doesn't need to be that humble in low town.
"Hey Yuuta not that I didn't like it but you didn't have to lie back there...about our fight. I know I was pretty weak against you and-"I said before Yuuta looked at me with a glare.
"No...stop saying those things. Castiel you beat the hell out of me during that fight and I won't allow you to talk down about yourself." Yuuta said as I felt a somewhat anger feeling on him.
"Yuuta, I really don't care that you easily beat me I-" I said as he placed his arm out to stop me.
"I did not easily beat you Castiel." He said in a near demanding tone. I wanted to continue to be humble but if it will lead into another fight than forget it.
"Fine whatever but I hope you don't expect to fight you again...I'd like to keep my arm if that's alright." I said as we were near the point where Yuuta and I go our separate ways home.
Yuuta chuckled and patted my back.
"And I would like to wake up not having a broken body." He said with a smirk referring to his bruises.
"See you Yuuta"
"Later Castiel" We said to each other as we walked away from each other.
(Yuuta's view)
The next morning was the day my parents arrived back home from their trip to Hiten. I quickly hid my commoner clothes in the back of one of my filled closets, there would be no way they could find that from my arsenal of clothing.
When they entered the front door we quickly exchanged hugs and as usual I had to give my dad status reports about myself and the kingdom. Strangely enough he seemed more interested in the reports about the city rather than about me. And he has a look of annoyance when I hug him...its probably just been a busy day for him.
"Son, I have some news." He said as I paid attention to him. My tail once again faked being obedient to his word.
"I think it's time to choose a personal butler of yours. There are many people around Riften who could fit the job and I want you to pick the best of them all. You're a Michael and just because I have taught you to be the strongest doesn't mean you don't get certain privileges and benefits. I'll give you a few days to look around but you have to decide by Wednesday. We have a party with the Philips family and they expect us to have everything necessary for a noble family which includes each family member having a personal butler." He said lecturing me as my mind started to drift to Castiel and how our training will be like.
"Son? You heard me right?" Father said with a small glare.
"Yes father, find the best butler by Wednesday for the Philips family. Got it." I said as my parents went off to do their usual things. When they left I sighed and got into a slight depressed state. Great now I have to chose a butler instead of working out with Castiel? Hes going to be so disappointed.
I really wanted to be around him and I've suffered through things like this before but Castiel deserves to have at least some fun being my friend. Oh well...time to look around.
The next morning I managed to sneak Castiel into the training room with me and I put a 'do not disturb' sign outside. My father would respect my space as long as it wasn't anything important. Castiel and I got changed into our work out outfits and the first thing we did was jog on the treadmills.
While we were jogging we talked to the other about current events and dreams about the future.
"Yuuta...I know you kinda have to be the king in the future but if you could really chose any other path, what would it be?" He asked inbetween his huffs and puffs while jogging with me. His arm was still sore he said so there would be little to now weight lifting for him.
"You know...I really wanted to be an artist. I want to paint royal portraits of kings and queens rather than actually be one but like you said I'm pretty much have no choice." I said as we both chuckled while jogging. I wonder what Castiel wants to be?
"Hey Castiel? What do you want to be?" I asked him
"I really want to be a knight of Riften. I want to make a name for myself and be a hero while also being an inspiration to the low town folk that we can claim glory if we try hard enough." He said as I felt...relaxed when he was speaking...he was so...amazing. True, if he became a knight Riften would be well protected. I smiled as we looked at each other with a friendly smile.
"Well, I hope I'll be king when that happens. I'd gladly knight you when I become king." I said as he looked up at me in awe of my words.
"And most importantly I'll serve you my prince. I would consider it the best honor of my life to know I was defending not only a Michael but my best friend." He said as my legs started to feel weak from what he was saying. I know there was no possible way I was tired already but...those words...indeed I'll be in capable hands as long as Castiel is there to protect me.
The next days flew by and I finally found a promising butler, his name was Flynn. He was a fox of all things about 25 years old and had a slim but capable posture. He had a wife and a town in low town but he will receive benefits he desperately needs for serving me.
Flynn was a good man if not a bit childish behind his calmness of being a butler. I figured he was going to be the best choice out of Riften. I started to get some nerves as the day for the party with the Philips came. Flynn and I had to make good impressions in order to be looked highly upon.
It was about 6PM at the castle gate....Where is Flynn?! Why is he late?! Doesn't he understand how important this day is?! I'm extremely thankful that the Philips haven't arrived yet but I can't be seen out here by myself!
Then I heard someone coming up to the gate. Flynn! But he wasn't dressed or looked the least bit prepared! What is going on!?
"Flynn! Why aren't you dress?! The Philips will be here any minute!" I said as panicked as he was.
"I'm sorry my lord! But my wife just broke water with our first child and I have to be there for her! I'm sorry I couldn't let you know sooner! I'm sorry!" He pleaded but he ran off back to mid town before a carriage made of Silver and gems came up from where Flynn was running too...this is bad! Very bad!
I looked around and knew it was hopeless...When they see me without my butler I'm going to look poor! Its over for me...
The carriage stopped and two people casually came out of it dressed in royal clothing as they approached me with stern but yet emotionless eyes. Both had this pure white makeup one and both were humans...Then a boy about my age also left the carriage looking quite displeased with everything...but chances are he was displeased with everything around him. Its notorious among nobles that Philips are either impressed or disgusted.
"Prince Yuuta I assume? It is a pleasure but where is your butler?" The Philip man asked me as I started to shake not knowing how to place my next words.
"I-I-um he-is" I said before-
"Oh! My lord! I'm sorry! I just got the letter that the party was moved to 6PM! Excuse my absence!" A person came running up. He had brown hair and was in the form of a human ...wait....Castiel?!?! What is he doing here?! How did he know about this party?!
Castiel ran up to us taking a few moments to catch his breath from a long run in front of me and the Philips. They looked down at him with the same eyes as they gave me but now I was more nervous then ever! Theres no way they would think hes a butler! Sure Castiel is dressed up in his mid town outfit but he-
"Oh? You are Prince Yuuta's butler?" The Philip woman asked as I was about to interrupted saying no but Castiel beat me to it.
"Why yes my lady." He said going down on one knee and taking her hand. He changed his voice into a charming one and...he seemed so professional! Castiel was a great actor like me but this is his best work! To actually fool royalty!
"I'm sorry you have to see me in such distasteful clothing. I promise you I'll make it up to you my lady by making this night the best of your life...I am yours to serve my lovely gem." He said kissing her hand and she looked about ready to faint. His voice was excellently changed and he was luring them into a perfect sense of professionalism.
"Oh well...I guess couriers are unreliable these days. Come husband I look forward to this party if this handsome butler is going to serve to me." She said with a blush through her pure white makeup. The boy walked past Castiel and gave a small grin of..interest of some sort. The boy was a year younger than Castiel and I and had honey yellow hair along with glacier blue eyes but he had the scent and face of a person who was up to no good. He had a slim but swimmer like build to him and he looked like he was wearing the same white makeup as his parents but he must have wiped it off. Whatever I was in deep trouble here!
Castiel was walking with them until I pulled him away looking at him with both terrified and serious eyes.
"Castiel! What are you doing here?!" I whispered loudly in frustration. Does he have any idea what hes getting himself into? Doesn't he realize that if he messes up that he might be thrown in jail for the rest of his life or worse?!
"I'm here to help you. I was there when Flynn's wife broke water and he freaked out saying that he couldn't make it to the party tonight. Sure I didn't ask his permission to take his place but something tells me you had no one in mind after you chose him. Besides my arm is better and I can lift weights again so lifting wine glasses and serving trays and such would be no problem" Castiel said looking right through me like a book.
Everything was the truth, when I found Flynn he seemed good enough and I didn't bother to find another in case of an emergency. Sadly I had to realize that after setting such a good impression on lady Philip I have no choice but to allow him to become a butler...at least for tonight.
"F-Fine...but when the party is over you never do anything like this again! Also don't tell your real name to any the nobles! It is considered rude for a butler to give his name to a noble. If anyone asks just say ask my master, Castiel...do you know anything about being a butler even?" I said realizing my chances for success were probably even slimmer.
"No...but I'm a fast learner." He said nonchalantly as I gripped my forehead wondering if maybe just coming out saying I had no butler was better than making a fool out of Castiel and myself. I debating strongly and heatedly in my mind until I saw Castiel giving me a smile.
"Don't worry Yuuta...I'll be fine." He said as I shook my head and decided to try it out.
"Alright...You'll have to get properly dressed though, follow me." I said leading him through another door to the castle and showed him a changing room.
"Okay you can change in here. I'll have to wait for you and you'll need to follow me until another noble calls for you directly." I said as Castiel nodded and headed into the room as I waited patiently for him. Was this right? Should I really put Castiel through this? Why would he even do this for me? So many questions of doubt and future regret ran around in my mind that I heard Castiel talk again in his charming butler voice.
"Alright...I'm finished my lord, shall we go to the guests?" He said opening the door and...my mouth dropped open as my tail puffed out in shock.
H-He looked-...Good! He must have fixed his hair while he was in there because it was combed back and looked healthy! The bulter suit fitted him perfectly and showed off his excellent physique. Black was most certainly his type of color but the dashing and charming smile and eyes put you off the idea that he might be evil. He looked like everything the perfect butler should be! So handsome so-...wait...did I think...Castiel was handsome?! No I meant it as a compliment! Thats all really I said to my tail that started to curve around my leg in some weird way its never done before.
As good as Castiel looks as a butler he had to also act and play the part. Looks aren't everything for a butler. We started to go the main hall where the party was being held and I was letting Castiel on all the tips a proper butler should know. I probably seemed panicked while he was utterly calm about the whole situation! How was he acting so calm about this?! Sure I might get in trouble for letting a ill trained person come into a party but he might be executed if he did bad enough!
"Castiel why the hell are you doing this?! Aren't you afraid at all?" I asked loudly as we were right outside the door leading into the main hall. He looked at me giving me another dashing smile.
"I'd do anything for a friend in need. So I have nothing to worry about." He said as I was taken away by his words...I was frozen as he opened the door and gave me a bow.
"After you, my lord." He said as I probably looked terrified for both my and Castiel's sake. Their were many of the Riften nobles here as well but the main guests of honor were the Philips. I'm thankful none of them knew what Castiel looked like but if he came out with his real name they would call for the guards to haul him away. All I have to do is make sure Castiel doesn't have to do anything major and we'll both get through this.
I walked towards the party with Castiel following close behind keeping a constant and calm smile. His presence was one of confidence and pride as he followed me perfectly like a real butler. I had to introduce myself to some of the nobles and they asked me about my butler. Castiel never changed his smile and bowed when addressed to show he was honored that nobles acknowledged him...even though as a butler.
Castiel was playing the part perfectly as I did my best to make sure he didn't have to do anything but I noticed out of the corner of my eye that some of the younger noble women and the daughters of noble women were all giggling and whispering among themselves when Castiel was near me. Castiel didn't look affected at the least bit of their flattery and I was starting to feel relieved...maybe things will turn out okay.
That of course didn't last forever. When we went to the dining room we saw the guests of honor, the Philips and my parents chatting with each other along with maybe another 30 nobles in the same room. In the dining room a band was playing some heavenly instrumental music putting everyone at ease. Mrs.Philips eye went immediately to Castiel as she started to fan herself with her infamous fan she always brought to parties like these. My dad and Mr. Philips were talking about trade routes or something as my mother was entertaining the other guests. I then noticed the young boy prince Philips looking into the fireplace with his bored stare but when he saw Castiel and his uniform he smiled again just like outside.
"Just keep calm and don't do anything unless ordered to I'll do my best to-" I whispered to Castiel before Mrs.Philips waved her hand in the air for me and Castiel...why does something tell me she only wants to see Castiel?
"Prince Yuuta! I must say you look so refine with your great butler at your side...hes even more handsome in his butler uniform." She said blushing again as Castiel bowed down to her and I could have sworn I heard her squeal in delight.
"Yuuta...may I borrow your butler for awhile?" She said as my heart stopped in fright...this was it...the real moment of truth...the test of Castiel's abilities as a butler. I wanted to scream in panic but I manage to keep my cool and keep a dashing smile myself.
"Of course Mrs. Philips." I said motioning for Castiel to stand next to her. She seemed beside herself in joy as she kept fanning herself probably wondering what to do first with him. I have to keep an eye out for him if he wants to get out of here without being sent away by the guards.
(Castiel's view)
I know many would have panicked in my situation but this is my chance to show that I can really do anything when I set my mind to it. Imagine the look on everyone's faces when the realize the best looking and performing butler is actually a low town resident! Even though I don't want to be a butler I should try to get every perspective of nobles before I eventually become one. Thats right, someday I plan on becoming a noble! And if I have to start out as a butler then so be it.
I could tell Mrs. Philips had this fan girl crush on me and I was wondering if Mr. Philips even really minded but right now I was her personal butler until Yuuta or another noble calls for me. I was really curious about her son though who was giving me this strange smile from across the room.
"Butler...tell me what is your name?" She asked as I remembered what Yuuta told me.
"You'll have to ask my lord Yuuta for that answer Mrs. Philips I am here to-" I said before she showed her hand in boredom.
"Oh please I'm tired of excuses like that from all butlers. I know your only doing your job but really talk to me as a person. What is your name?" She asked as I took a deep breath wondering if it was really okay to say it.
"Castiel, Mrs. Philips." I said as she giggled.
"Castiel..oh what a dashing name, it suits you. Tell me, do you have anyone after your affections?" She said as I was cut off by the sudden question...someone...after my affections? I-I don't think I'm that dashing-I mean...is she saying?-but she's like 40 years old! She has a son and a husband!
"I-I..I-don't-"
"Oh never mind I suppose it doesn't matter...please Castiel, stand in front of me so I can have a better look at you." She said as I did just that and she motioned her finger for me to spin around showing my whole body for her.
"Oh my...so strong and handsome...I must say you fit the bill perfectly for looks!" She said as I was puzzled...fit the bill? Fit the bill for what?
The next thing I knew I felt a waiter carrying a small serving tray of wine bump into me from behind. He clearly didn't she where he was going and as he was about to fall to the ground I felt some...part of me react. I noticed out of the corner of my eye Yuuta saw the tray in the air and was about to run to me. With a quick motion of both my arms, I wrapped one around the falling waiter and perfectly placed my hand underneath the tray and spun it towards Mrs. Philips who was in awe of my display.
Luckily none of the wine glasses were knocked over and not even a drop of them spilled out. It was like some miracle as I reacted so fast to the bump that I managed to save every wine glass from being broken and probably just saved this waiter from an early exile. The serving tray was in one hand while my other was wrapped around the waiter boy who looked into my eyes thinking he was saved by some angels. All the nobles were in awe of my rescue of the waiter and the wine.
"May I offer you a drink Mrs. Philips?" I said in my charming voice as she couldn't help along with the other women squeal in delight of dashing butler that was prepared for anything.
"T-Thank you." The waiter boy said standing up and going back to the kitchen thankful for the save. The nobles started to mutter to themselves and looked at me with interested eyes....what was with them?
"So...professional! Oh my is there anything you can't do?" She said as I smiled at her.
"Only if you don't order it Mrs. Philips " I said as Yuuta came by me just now amazed that I still saved the serving tray and probably my life.
"Oh Yuuta! You are so fortunate to have such a capable butler! Not only is he drop dead gorgeous but he's the best butler I've seen in my whole life! And let me tell you I've seen many!" She said hardly acting like a gentlewoman anymore.
"Oh-Thank you Mrs. Philips! I-" Yuuta said relieved until she said something that shocked us both.
"I'll take him!" She said holding out a big bag. The jingle inside sounded like coins and others around me looked ready to offer more...w-what was going on?! I didn't even hid it behind my face of shock as did Yuuta.
"W-What?" I asked shocked as Yuuta and he looked around at the people were saying. Yuuta's father looked from afar and had a smile towards Yuuta.
"I'll pay 10,000 gold coins for him!" Mrs Philips said as Yuuta's father was beaming with pride.
"Ha! I'll pay 13,000 for him!" A horse noble said making my jaw drop from the prices being shouted...13,000 gold...no one in low town makes that in their whole life! It would literally be enough for me to move into mid-town!
"Father! Whats going on?!" Yuuta nearly screamed in fear as I was tossed around with prices.
"Yuuta, my son didn't I tell you? This is a butler auction. The whole point of this party was to find a new butler for the Philips after theirs retired. I heard they wanted a young person who was capable of nearly anything and good job son! I think you picked the best one!" He said patting Yuuta's back as he looked at me fearful of my fate.
I wanted to scream out saying I wasn't really a butler but...but if I did people would be shocked to learn that Yuuta let in a low town farmer into a royal party...and probably even more disgraceful sell out a colleague...I can't punch anyone or make a run for it I would be hunted all over Riften and the continent! I-I have no choice...I'm just like an object...I'm almost like a slave now I-' I thought to myself as someone stood in front of me but I could only see their back...it was Yuuta
"No deal." Yuuta said sternly standing in front of me, ....d-did he say no? To 13,000?! That was the price of maybe 2 or 3 butlers! Or like I said a house in mid town! Is he-Is he defending me? But Yuuta had the tone of anger and annoyance...like he wasn't going to sell me out.
"Then 15,000!"
"No 17,500!"
"I'll give you 18,000 for him Prince Yuuta!" All nobles started to shout out prices the likes of which I couldn't imagine! Yuuta silenced the crowd and said firmly with a stern face towards all of them.
"He's not for sale." Yuuta said as...I felt relieved for sure but...this warmth...this feeling. I remember it like my parents gave me at those times of hopelessness. Feeling dragged around but yet my parents were always there to protect me and comfort me. I-I was getting a similar feeling like with Yuuta now but...theres something different about it.
"20,000" Mrs Philips said as everyone looked at her with a gasp. Yuuta's fathers mouth was nearly drooling over the high number. 20,000! I could easily buy a house in mid town and pay off all taxes with that amount! I would have to get a job but...for a low town resident to move to mid town was a goal they all strive for. And for a noble to get 20,000 off of one butler I-...There would be no way Yuuta could-...I said with my heart starting to feel cold before Yuuta said hardly even fazed with the price.
"He cannot be replaced...that is why I have no intention of selling him." He said as my heart beat hard for a moment....cannot be replaced? I'm...needed by Yuuta? I-I would never imagined the day that my old school rival would be here defending me from nobles, of all threats, wanting to buy me...if I didn't admit having a great admiration for him before...I-I think he would have maybe sold me but...this feeling in my heart....what does it mean?
The nobles were all shocked by the refusal of all prices and slowly one by one they gave up. I saw Yuuta have a smile of relief and I started to calm down a bit. Yuuta was serious about this. He wanted to keep me around even if that meant giving up 20,000 gold!
I wanted to say thank you as Yuuta's father left the room confused and somewhat angry his son refused such a high price...I hope Yuuta can handle him later. I doubt nobles would yell at their sons in the middle of a party. As I was about to suggest getting me the hell out of here, the Philips son came forward with a smug grin on his face.
"25,000...my whole life savings." He said as I was left frozen by the extremely high price...W-Why would this kid be willing to give up his whole life savings for me? What the hell is wrong with him?! Yuuta looked down at the boy and said once again.
"He....is.....not...for...sale" He said again obviously annoyed by this sudden outburst. The boy scowled at Yuuta angry that he couldn't have me.
"Yuuta...why would you be so willing to keep this butler? I'm paying far to much for what hes worth...Of course I would be willing to pay any price for someone I would love to kiss." He said with a grin as my heart froze...k-k-kiss me?! He wants to kiss me?! What am I some kind of kissing doll to him?! Is that why he was looking at me so strangely?!
"Young Philips...you are young...find some lass or lad if thats what you really prefer and give him a spin. I'm afraid this butler is mine and not for sale...and before you say again he's not for sale because hes someone special to me and he's more to me than any price you can offer." He said as my heart was straining with this...comfort and warmth...w-what is going on with me?
The Philips boy growled and turned away angry about the refusal.
"Fine...you win for now Yuuta...but someday I'll come back for him." He said walking away leaving me with chills up my spine. I hope he wasn't serious.
Yuuta and I managed to get out of the main hall and back into the clothing room where I changed into my mid town clothing and messed up my hair so that I looked like a completely different person. When I left the room I saw Yuuta have a small frown on his face and his tail was slumped down in depression.
"Castiel...I-I don't even know where to start. I swear I had no idea that our butlers were being sold! I would have never allowed you to become a butler and wouldn't have risked selling you. I hope you'll forgive me." He said looking down at the ground showing clear regret and sadness.
Strangely enough there wasn't one part of me that was mad at him. I believe him when he said he didn't know and how can be mad at him after he just saved me from being bought? The least I could do was not be angry at him.
"Yuuta...Your a friend, of course I believe you and I can forgive, I guess you were right about me having no idea what I'm getting myself into but I'm really okay now...Yuuta...you don't know how happy you made me back there." I said a embarrass about what I was saying. Yuuta looked at me giving me his full attention.
"You said I was someone irreplaceable to you and it made me feel...happy and...safe. I-I really don't know what to say back to you Yuuta except thank you....thank you Yuuta." I said looking at him and he looked at me. Our eyes looked nervously and awkward into the others but it was a great gesture of....friendship.
"Your welcome Castiel. You want to go to the inn tomorrow?! My treat!" Yuuta said with a happy smile and his tail swung around happily again. I smiled back and shook his hand in the warriors way.
"Like hell you are! I'm paying for it this time!" I said as we have each other pats on the back and playful shoves to the other. We walked until we reached the front gate and no one was around since the party was over.
"See you Yuuta, my best friend!" I said waving goodbye to him
"See you later Castiel...I-" He said also waving but I could have sworn he wanted to say something else but he stopped himself. I didn't really mind though, were friends now after all.
