The Patrol part 5
#1 of The Patrol
Thanks for giving feedback in the last 2 chapters, I would name you all but I can't spell your names. Anyway I can't really think of much to say this time so enjoy.

Driver, Hunter and Graves were almost standing on top of the cliff path that they had been climbing, Graves bandage had a fresh circle of blood staining the White mateiral as a clear indercation that the wound had re-opened on the way up. Drivers boots were badly scuffed from some of the rocks and hunters right hand had a graze on it's back, which he was pretending didn't exist.
Hunter carefully looked around the area they were standing on. The end of the path was only a little bit ahead of them where it seemed to curve over to the top of the cliff. If he climbed over the large rocks beside them he would be able to see the Forest below as the tree tops streached out across the land as far as the eye could see. The ground below his feet was made up from rock and small stones that had slowly fallen of other rocks in the past. The sky was just like the sky he remembered. White fluffy clouds and a beaming sun was all that he could see.
Hunter sighed remembering the old days when there was no war. He then pulled out his black water bottle and drunk a small ammount from the remaining water. He then said "how's your water supplies?"
Driver checked and said "about 1/3 left"
Graves said "I think I've got an empty bottle sir"
Hunter checked his and noticed that it was just below half, they would be needing to fill up soon. "ok let's finish this climb and see what's up here" the men walked up the last bit of the path and came to the top of their desternation. The top was very open, almost flat. Hunter didn't see how it was flat because from the base he was sure that it was higher at some points than others. But with the scilence of this place he could hear running water so he guessed that they were not too far from a water source.
Driver said down and said "I don't think I've ever climbed something this high before without having an officer barking at me the whole way up."
Graves laughed "I know that feeling man" he then looked around the area as Hunter had done. But he spotted something that Hunter had not. On the far side from where they had climbed up there seemed to be a spire of rocks. It like it was pretty close, possablely half a click, maybe less. "sir what's that over there" he said while nodding towards the small spire.
Hunter followed his nod and saw it "I don't know, I also don't know where that water source is, it's quite clear to hear but look around. It's no-where around us."
Driver then said "does thar mean there's more walking? That climb was annoying enough."
Hunter had a lot of hates but one of the main ones was lazy soldiers but he said in a calm voice "no we are not walking. We are running! Now let's go!" hunter then gave Driver a less than friendly kick to the side of his chest to get up.
Graves took the looked at the bandage on his arm, he had taken the sling off because it made getting up here too hard. He pulled out his M9 with his right hand and started running after driver who was closely being chased by Hunter.

Whitpen, Segolia and snake had stopped running from where they were attacked, all 3 of them were breathing heavily. They had broken from the forest and were standing beside a small lake, it didn't seem to spread very far in any direction but there was a small stream joining it from the east.
Segolia went to drink from his water then quickly re-filled it in the lake. Snake was starring at the direction they had come from. "damn it I can't believe they killed doyel! Those animals!"
Whitpen then said to him "he's dead and your not, be thankful for that."
Snake then turned to the officer and said "don't you even care? Doesn't your heart feel anything at all?"
Whitpen walked right up to snake and said in a commanding tone "I remember the faces and names of every single man that has died under my command, I see them in my dreams and every single time I do I always think to myself. 'i could have saved them'...But people die, that's a fact of life, now get over it!"
Snake then relised that he would get nothing more from Whitpen then turned to Segolia "what about you, don't you care?" Segolia was screwing the lid back onto his now full water bottle. He said nothing.
Snake tryed again "hey I'm talking to you!"
Whitpen seeing Snake start to shout said "Stand down soldier!"
Snake glared at Whitpen but said nothing in return.
Segolia then said to no-one inpiticular "how do you think ghost is holding up?" he the. Did an ammo check, counting his remaining mags for both of his weapons. He counted 4 remaining SA80 mags, including the one loaded at the moment and 1 full sniper mag and the 1 with 2 shots fired already. "if he come into enemy contact like we did his ammo won't last as long as ours."
Whitpen then said "he may not be the best shot ever but remember how good he is at stealth. You could step on his and not notice your done it"
Snake then said "he's dead, we are all dead! That thing attacked because we were humans, these monsters hunt humans!"
Whitpen grabbed Snake by the shoulders and said "Get a hold of yourself man! You've Survived training so you can survive anything this place can throw at you! Remember who you are, you are a soldier from the NightStorm patrol and we do NOT give up! Do I make myself clear?!"
Snake taken back by whitpens outburst then said "yes sir." and said no more.
Segolia knew that tension was getting high. There were being attacked by things that he had never seen before in a place that was unknown to them, without radio contact or spare supplies. They had no idea how far they were from home and the only clue they had was that message he heard. 'save us from the darkness' were those wolves the darkness? They had black fur, was that what the message was about? Also what was that other word, the one that got them through the Arch 'Ersing' was it a name? Or something else.
Whitpen broke his chain of thought by saying quietly to him "we are not alone, something is watching us, keep your guard up."
Segolia without looking at Whitpen nodded and tightened his grip on his Weapon then looked around at what Whitpen had ment. But he could see nothing that would hint towards being watched. Just the sway of the trees. Then it struck him. The trees were swaying yet there was no wind. Something was moving inside them, and what ever it was it could see them but they couldn't see it giving them a huge disadvantage. Segolia then thought. What if this is a scout?
He signled towards the other two to get moving away from this point. He knew that if they moved now they might be able to set up a snap ambush later. With that though in his head the three men moved away and into the Forest in a different direction from where they had come knowing fully well that they were now being followed...but by what?
......
