With a large burst of air across the landing pad, the shuttle touched down with a practiced ease. The sun was slowly rising on its daily trip as the pair stepped out of the cab. Niri could see uneasiness in the way Colin walked to the building and hesitated. At the front of the cabin, a holographic steward smiled at the assembled passengers dressed in the company's bright red uniform. "Welcome aboard Nova Lines flight number 159 from Earth to Gaia. As most of you are aware, we shall be using the Jump Gate." The image proceeded to explain how the concentrations of artificial gravity focused on one point established a 'gateway' to a distant point between two terminals. Colin listened carefully as the lecture went on, his ears flicking nervously. Niromi smiled as she stroked his paw softly. She tuned the hologram out mainly because she was clueless as to the technology and how it worked. Instead she opted to calm her boyfriend down. "We shall be departing in one hour. The ship seemed to pulse beneath their foot paws. They looked out of the windows and could see the huge ring of the Gate hanging in space. On one side was Luna orbital station. Niri smiled as she saw the small pinpoints of light from cargo thrusters docking and undocking at the freighter ports. "I don't think you can see it from here." Colin smiled and leaned back against his seat. "Kin was right." she muttered. He looked back at her and blinked. "The fennec? Right about what?" She nodded "Kin told me that you would get me." The screen at the front of the cabin lit up. "We shall be entering the gate in approximately one minute; all passengers and crew please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts." The fox quickly typed in a few commands and used a furry digit to look down a list of reservations. "Ah yes, Mr. Young, room 667, port side third level." A tiny paw reached under the desk and then handed over the cardkey. "Enjoy your stay."
Following the holo map set into the card, Colin led the way down a long hallway. After a few minutes and a trip through a grav elevator, they finally reached the door to their room. The card was slipped through the slot and with a soft hiss the door slid open. Niri was too busy trying to peek through the opening door to notice Colin kneeling down beside her. "Wha, hey!" They were amazed at the luxury of even the standard class room. Colin idly wondered what the suites looked like if these were the cheap rooms. The bed was huge and covered with a canopy; every fixture was gleaming clean and shining. The real showpiece of the room was a huge window that opened and presented a beautiful view of the planet below. Niromi giggled like a schoolgirl as she moved about, taking it all in. "Enjoy your stay." the holo bleeped then vanished. "They certainly take good care of their guests." Colin said as he stared out and down onto the planet. "They have an amazing selection of activities here." Colin said as he looked over the list by the bed. "Night clubs, restaurants, tennis courts, basketball courts, 6 pools." "You find the closest one and I'll be right back." He nodded and raised an eyebrow as he saw her take the small package she had purchased behind a divider. A few twists and a lift ride later, they entered the pool room. "Amazing." Colin breathed. The room was made to look like a desert oasis, an intense light source overhead simulated the sun and in the center of the room was a huge sparkling pool. Along the far wall were a waterfall and a short distance to one side a small bar with a closed sign on it. "Mmm deserted." She smiled. "Good." Colin on the other paw was decent enough as to not look like he was seizing, instead he watched his mate dance like a beautiful vision in a dream. The couple had a great time. Much, much later, they stumbled into their cabin wearily. "Ohhh, I'm beat, what a night." Niri murred and she flopped onto the bed. Colin panted and nodded as he took a seat on the edge, kicking off his shoes and then falling back onto the bed with Niri. "Sure was fun though."
A few days later, the pair was in their usual place, in bed, when the comm. unit beeped next to Niri's head. She sat up against the head board and picked up the receiver. "Hello?" Niri answered the comm. and batted at Colin's muzzle as he nibbled her outer thigh, his paws running over her legs. "Stop that." she hissed and he chuckled evilly. "Hello Niromi dear, this is Lucille Howell. Err...is this a bad time?" Niri bit her lip and shuddered as Colin rubbed her tail base. "Nuh, no, not all." The badgeress on the other end smiled softly. "Dear, we were wondering if you two would care to join us for our trip down to the surface." Niri gasped. "I thought that was terribly expensive!" Colin looked up at her in question and stopped his molestations. "Oh it is dear but we can take you along for free as our guests." Niri grinned happily. "Oh thank you Lucy! We would be delighted!" The badgeress laughed. "Perfect, we will meet you at the lounge on C deck at 7 tomorrow evening." She grinned to herself and said one last goodbye. "Now have fun you two." She rang off and Niri moaned as Colin commenced a tongue lashing on her white furred chest...
Niri batted at Colin's paw as they entered C deck, his paw running up and down her back. "Over here!" Thurston waved and they went over. The entire tour group was all dressed in one piece suits, which the tour director had sent up to their cabins earlier that day. As they boarded the shuttle, they were seated by the Howells. They talked merrily as the shuttle traveled down to the planet. As with most planet falls, Colin was extremely nervous, gripping the chair arm a little too tightly as the ship shuddered a bit when entering the atmosphere. Niri patted his arm and Lucille smiled warmly. "Not used to it dear?" Niri nodded and smiled back across the way. "He'll be fine once we land." However, although Colin is a spacer and has to experience little or no gravity, speed across light-years of cold dark vacuum, chart previously unknown space and survive whatever it contains. But he absolutely *cannot* handle atmosphere flying, makes him sick in the stomach. The ship landed in a clearing just beside a line of massive and ancient trees tied together by vines and other thick brush. The passengers began to unbuckle and stand and then the tour guide stood at the head of the cabin. "Everyone listen carefully please. This is a dangerous planet due to the fact it is not well explored." He explained how the jungle outside was almost completely untamed and how the force belts they were issued worked. "The large knob right here in the center is the power. Turn it to the right completely and the shield will activate. The red button is a distress beacon, press it once and an alarm will sound and activate a locator beacon. Trackers will get to you as fast as the wind." With a caution to be careful, they were allowed off the ship, each one in turn activating their shields as they stepped off the ship. Colin looked about a little nervously, keeping close to Niromi. She looked around as well and then touched his arm and blinked. "Ohhh." Her paw touched his arm and yet it didn't. She felt a very thin barrier running over their bodies, like a hard shell. "Wow." Lucille grinned. "Amazing aren't they?" Colin was fiddling with his belt when a quick movement just out of the corner of his left eye made him jerk his head up in alarm. He instinctively perked his ears as he squinted his eyes, his left artificial one quickly cycling the different options. The bushes again moved. "There, something moved." Colin called out as he pointed off into the far woods. Thurston looked in the same direction and blinked. "I don't see anything. Where?" "He has an artificial eye." Niri pointed out. Colin switched his viewing options, watching in infrared. After a long moment, he blinked and then smiled. "It's okay. Look." Out of the brush, a small frog-like animal approached, sniffing the air and giving a small high pitched croak. The green and red spotted creature looked much like a bull frog, only with two legs, a short stub for a tail and two big black eyes staring back at the group. Niri crouched a little and smiled widely. "Oh wow, how adorable!" The creature seemed to sniff the air and inch closer. "It's a Gixza, be careful!" Thurston cautioned as Niri held out a paw. Niri reached forward and gently scritched the top of its head and it cooed. "Why is it so friendly? I would have thought it would be scared of us." Colin wondered. "Well... it may not have seen a furre before. Therefore it has no reason to be afraid." Niri said. Niri looked up at Colin and smiled as the Gixza croaked in a happy sounding tone. She leaned her head down closer and tilted her head slightly, not wanting to scare it off but only to get a better look at it. Apparently the creature didn't take it as such, because it croaked again and lashed out with its long tongue and struck Niri on her muzzle. She cried out in more surprise than pain and fell backwards onto her rear. "NIRI!" Colin pulled her back then lashed out with a boot and sent the Gixza through air. It hit the ground and scampered off into the brush from where it came, croaking and squeaking in pain and fear...
A thin green slime dripped off Niri's cheek. "The Gixza are predators, the green stuff on your cheek is venom." Lucille explained. Colin kneeled and looked her over as she sat there stunned and shaking. "Not everything is as it seems here dear." The badgeress smiled. "But it's still a beautiful world, overall." Niri stood up with Colin's help and then moved further along the trail. Minutes later, they came out of the jungle and onto a bluff. "Oh my...." Niri took Colin's paw as they looked out over the huge valley, an endless stretch of green and blue. It was magnificent, a lush green carpet with a long river snaking through it as far as the group can see. The perfect end to the trip...
Later that night, Colin looked out the window at the planet moving below. "Mmm, this has been such a wonderful trip." Niri murred as she stretched, resting her back against the head rest. "Coming to bed love?" Colin looked over at her and smiled, his paw fiddling with a small box in his pants pocket. "C'mere a second first hun." She walked over and stood beside him. Colin turned to her, swallowing and flicking his tail nervously. He kneeled in front of her and took her paw into his, looking up at her with a pleading look. "Niromi Shiro, will you marry me?" The words hit Niri like a ton of bricks and she was silent for a long moment. Niri looked down at him with tears welled up in her eyes and she nodded. "Oh Colin, yes, yes, YES!" Colin stood and they hugged each other tightly, her tail wagging wildly, and the pair kissing all over each other. They parted and smiled, looking deep into each others eyes. Colin reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. "This, my dear sweet Niri, is what I was able to get with the last of the credits I got." She gasped and opened it, the gold and diamond ring flickering in the light of the window. He smiled and slipped it on her finger. She then hugged him fiercely and kissed him passionately. "I love you so much Colin!"
Niri kept one arm around Colin as they stepped onto the transport. "Mmm can we come back again?" Colin murred as he nuzzled her. "Of course, would be wonderful to show the children." She giggled and licked his cheek. "Love you." He smiled down at her. "Love you too." With one last backward glance, they boarded the ship for the trip for the gate, and back home.
