"Well every story needs a start, and it so happens that this one starts at the end. The world is dying and there is nothing that can be done about it. Call it a freak accident, divine will, or alien assault, whatever you want. It doesn't really matter anymore, all that's left is to trudge on and make of it what you can. But you all know that, and have lived through what has passed not to long ago. If you want you may stay to listen, this is our story. It isn't some epic adventure or tale of impossible deeds. Just the two of us doing what we needed for survival." I say in a solemn tone, looking over the small group of five that gathered to listen. My gaze settling on my mate, the one who has been through hell and back with me. He gives me a reassuring smile and a gentle squeeze from his paw. Returning my focus to those sitting or standing in front of us. I say with a nod. "So let's begin shall we?"

"Keba, wake up!"

I jump awake, rubbing my eyes trying to figure out what's going on. "W-what I wasn't asleep... just resting my eyes."

"Oh, sure you were." Milo rolls his eyes laughing at me while driving. "You're the one that used to live here not me. So why not tell me where we are going instead of sleeping."

"Don't we have a GPS for that?" Grumbling my response as I straiten myself up in the passenger seat, and take a look around to see if I can figure out where we are. Seeing nothing but farmland and trees that make up the desolate peninsula known as the Eastern Shore of Virginia. "How am I supposed to tell you where we are when there is nothing but fields and trees?"

Unable to hide my amusement I smile at him, and start admiring the Husky/Wolf hybrid in the drivers seat beside me. My family would definitely call his coloring a odd mix, being the pretentious/selfish bastards they are. He has white wrapped around his muzzle, a white strip up the middle between his eyes, and following down the front of his neck and chest. Black covering the other parts of his face, and neck as well as his sides. While sporting naturally colored blue tips on his pointy ears. His most amazing feature if I had to pick any was his eyes. A beautiful deep sapphire blue that anyone could get lost in regardless of their sexual orientation. As for myself well, I would just say I am your average Arctic Wolf. I have a pure white coat that is extremely annoying to keep clean, and the intense yellow eyes most wolves are known for. Nothing really that special about me that would call any attention. Even though I'm sure Milo would say otherwise.

Giggling he looks at me with that silly grin of his showing off some of the pearly whites. "Oh, I turned that off awhile ago wuff. Ever since we got on the bridge and you said it was a strait shot, and fell asleep on me." He shot back at me before looking back down the road.

I shake my head and stick my tongue out at him. "You'll never get anywhere in life if you keep listening to me." We both share a laugh. "But really." I say while taking another look around. Noticing the familiar sign with the small towns name on it, and the stop light just ahead for the turn we need to make into town. "Turn right here, then your first left, and follow the road to the big brick house on the left." I tell him while pointing down the road and making paw gestures for each turn in my set of directions.

Following the instructions I gave him, we make it halfway down the road that my families house is on. Noticing Milo had slowed down to a crawl the closer we got to our destination. Turning to look at him, I see that he is gripping the steering wheel firmly. His ears dipping in a nervous manner, and twitching. "What's wrong hun?" I turn most of my body that the passenger seat would allow to give him my full attention, and cock my head to the side to show I'm listening intently.

"What if they throw us out? Or worse..." He shakes his head sighing in frustration. "No, that would be silly. I don't think that would happen. I just... I dunno. I can't shake the feeling that something really bad is going to happen. Damn canine senses always getting in the way of things." He splays his ears fully.

I end up doing the same with mine, unable to decide if I should tell him or not. Giving in I take a deep breath and let out a sigh. "You too, eh? I really don't think it has to do with them, but it dose feel like something is about to happen but I can't place it either." I give his shoulder a reassuring squeeze but end up wearing a frown.

"HONK!" A car blares it's horn behind us causing me to jump in my seat again. The older crow in the drivers seat flicks us off for coming to almost a complete stop on the road. Milo curses quietly to himself as he hits the gas, and flips the left turn signal. Turning into the second part of the crescent shaped driveway that is lined with five trees on the far left and right. With a giant magnolia tree in the middle that is currently in full bloom. Milo looks at the car that was behind us, giving the old bird the middle finger while sticking his tongue out. The brick house grows before us. It's a two story stick built house that had to be over a hundred years old.

I can't help but laugh. "Road rage much?" He turns and sticks his tongue out at me in response. I reach out to nab it but he quickly pulls it back in before my fingers could reach it. Wearing that silly grin he loves to tease me with.

"Close but no cigar, wolf." He looks over at me only to notice my attention is elsewhere. "Um, sweetheart?"

I glance over at him. My eyes barely breaking away from what has me transfixed, my ears splaying flat against my head. "Milo, what the fox is that?" I point out of the front windshield. He stops the car and throws it in park, about fifty feet from the where the parking spots are behind the house. We both turn our attention to the sky in front of the car. Was not hard to find what kept me so transfixed, right in the middle of a perfect blue sky with only a few cottony clouds blocking it was a giant meteor. A big rolling mass of what appeared to be a almost blackish blue object. It billowed white smoke laced with blue flames and electricity around the body of it, and all throughout the widening trail it left. I couldn't help but gawk at it, bottom jaw left hanging down. My mind was racing with questions, was it going to hit? Was it going to fly past the horizon? What was it?! Both pairs of eyes in the vehicle followed it. The large object lazily made it's way across the sky, finally reaching the horizon line. I turn to look at my mate but notice a look of pure terror spread across his features. His ears folded backwards against his skull, and eyes grew wide. I look back and see a giant dome growing in the distance. Mostly blue but slowly shading to white on the top, and black on the bottom. Seemingly sucking in light from the sky as the clouds started to push away from it. Faster and faster my heart raced, almost in pace with the rapidly growing empty circle that was racing it's way toward us.

I look over at Milo realizing what it was that was making it's way toward us and yell "Get out of the car now!" We both rush out of the silver sedan, the two of us not even bothering to shut the doors as we get out. Turning, and sprinting behind the car towards Milo as well as the front of the house. I grab Milo's paw yanking him with me as we both run at top speed. The dome growing bigger in front of us, I notice my sisters friend walking out casually to meet us. A calico cat with a bewildered look on her face.

"What are you doing?" She asks before her eyes growing wide as she notices the two of us holding paws. "Wait a minute, you two are gay?! What fags!" She starts to burst out in laughter at us. Doubling over while holding her stomach, and a finger pointing in our direction bouncing with her hysterical laughter.

We race towards the front of the house. Running into a small garden section with some flowers and small bushes in it. I pull Milo in front of me, and into a corner where the house pokes out for the dinning room. Looking down at the smaller wusky under me, giving him my best effort I tell him in a calm voice despite my obvious shaking. "Hun, cover your head and tuck into a ball. Okay?" He nods and dose what I asked him too. Now turning my attention to my sisters friend who is still mocking us I shout. "Get over here now!"

"No, why would I listen to any queers?" She shakes her head at us while continuing to chuckle, and standing there with her arms crossed across her chest.

"Just shut up and get over here damn it!" I yell at her while waving her over to the hiding place.

"Screw you I'm not listening to a couple fag-" She interrupts herself, turning back towards the house she notices what we had seen moments before. Turning to run, she starts sprinting towards the car. Screaming at the top of her lungs. "Help! Some one help me!"

The earth beneath us begins to tremble with such force that it causes the calico colored feline to trip. Unable to fight it off anymore my instincts take over. Like a puppet unable to control his body, I turn to cover Milo with my body while bracing my paws against the brick of the house. The cat I see out of the corner of my eye just started to get back on her feet in front of the silver Acura. Shutting my eyes tightly, after about two seconds the shockwave of whatever it was hits us. Slamming my insides like they got bludgeoned with a sledge hammer. Milo and myself getting thrown back a few feet in the air. Both of us hit the ground, only guessing that my mate was hit just as hard by the impact as I was. My vision then started growing darker, and darker. I gave my best futile effort to stop from passing out but ultimately fail as I slip into a unconsciousness state.

"Keba, wake up!"

A paw shakes my shoulder making me jump awake with a terrified yelp. "W-what, are we there?" I close my eyes and rub them with my paws to try to get the sleep out of them.

"Yeah, we are here you silly fox. Now lets go, here come my parents." He opens the truck door and steps out to greet his parents.

I open my eyes in confusion only to notice that I have black paws. In a panic I scamper out of the car, slamming the door shut nearly catching my tail in the door. Using the silver tinted windows of the Toyota Tundra as a mirror to look at myself. Much to my demise I only see a mostly white Arctic Fox looking back at me. I take a closer look at myself trying my best not to lose it right then and there. I notice a black splotch on the top of my muzzle that turns back to white near my lips which is pretty rare to see on any fox. The normal back tipped ears, wearing the normal black fox socks on my for arms that foxes are famous for, and could only assume they were on my legs as well. Timidly I turn to look at my tail. Noticing it was pure white three quarters of the way up. Before fading into pitch black except for a small white tuft at the end. "What the hell is going on here?!" I shout in fear, looking back at fox staring back at me in the window. I would say he was very cute if not for the situation. I begin to shake my head, and stagger in place. My breathing turning heavy, and fast as I get on the verge of hyperventilating.

Hearing foot steps rush towards me. The father of the three dogs grabs me by the shoulders, and shakes me in a rough manner. His loud voice easily causing a lull in the fearful state I was in as he questions me. "What are you talking about, Keba?"

I look up at him, and dip my ears in terror from what I see. Slowly I look over at my mate, and his mom walking over to me. Confirming my fears as I see the family. They were all Germen Shepherds. Why are they not the wolf, husky and my wusky I was expecting. I start to freak out unable to stop trembling. "W-who are you all? What did you do to me? Where am I?!" I drop to my knees, and cover my head with my paws. Shaking it from side to side in disbelief and fear. I look back up. My mind racing now, and tears starting to flow out from my eyes. No sooner as I collapse to my knees, the father of the three Shepherds draws his leg back, and slams his right foot-paw into my chest. Hearing something snap in my chest I hurtle through the air, and the wind gets knocked out of my lungs. I land with a solid thud on the ground. Sprawled out, and trying to catch my breath. My tail twitches sending a spike of pain up my spine causing me to flinch and jump on the ground. Only able to guess at this time that my tail is broken as well from the landing. The three canines start walking towards me laughing with a dark sinister tone.

"Oh honey. I think you broke something, look at the poor thing squirm." Says the female Shepherd. Coming closer towards me as the others stand a few feet back. Her larger dog body standing over me, looking down with a almost demonic glare. "What weak little things foxes are, no wonder they are such bitches." She sends a swift kick square into my maw. The impact fracturing my muzzle across the top, and breaking off my left canine. In the haze of pain I watch the fang, and some of my blood mixed with saliva land on the gravel driveway a few feet away.

My mind barely able to hold onto consciousness. Finally I manage to get a breath of air. Blood dripping down the back of my throat from my missing canine causing me to gag and cough. I look up with blood running down my cheeks, and across my face just in time to see the father beside me. A satisfied smirk across his black and brown face. My eyes start growing wide as he lifts his right leg up, and presses a foot-paw against my throat causing my esophagus to collapses. Grasping onto his ankle with both of my paws. I try to wrestle him off of me. "Pathetic fox, you could at least try and put up a struggle." He gloats over me keeping his massive foot-paw firmly on my neck leaving me pinned to the ground.

Struggling my hardest to get him off, which felt as useless as a tiny ant trying to move a bus. Milo, or who I thought was Milo sat down on my stomach, causing me to attempt a yelp of pain from my broken ribs but the foot-paw on my neck making that noise impossible. Staring at him with questioning eyes, and tears running down my face as they start to mix with the blood staining my white cheek fur. "Oh, poor, poor foxie. Never saw this coming now did you?" He drew his arm back making a fist with his paw, before coming down with all his strength on my chest. But... it didn't feel like he punched me that hard, and in two spots? He punches again, and same thing. Firm but not hard. Maybe that was because I was dieing that it felt like that. The two Shepherds continued their assault on me. The father twisting his foot-paw on my neck in hopes of breaking it. The son punching away at my chest, feeling it give way as more ribs broke. I could only guess why they where doing this at this time, not that it mattered now. My vision was starting to go dark, I was dieing. Heh, what great timing. I had no idea what's going on, and before I could even figure it out I'm laying on the ground getting beaten to death by three Germen Shepherds I don't even know! I can't even say goodbye to Milo, and that was the worst of all.

"Keba..."

My ears flick, am I hearing things? Great that's just what I need. Now god is mocking me too. Looking up into the darkening sky with silent curses pouring out of my eyes.

"Don't die on me Keba!"

There it is again, but why is it telling me not to die? How am I supposed to fight back, and live through this. I can't even move any part of my body now, all that is left is to just lay here and die. I let out a mental sigh of defeat letting the darkness consume me, and the bastard mongrels win.

"God damn it, wake up Keba!" Milo slams both of his fists into me causing me to jump up.

"Get away from me!" I yell and scramble back in terror a few feet gasping for breath while looking around in a panic. "What the hell..."

Milo dives into my stomach, hugging my waist tightly while sobbing a little. "Oh my god Keba, I thought you died on me! Don't you ever do that again!" Confused a little I kept trying to put what happened together. Milo just kept hugging me tighter, and tighter with his head buried into my chest.

Sniffling I wipe my nose, only to notice red staining my otherwise spotless white paw. My mind immediately snapping to focus on my mate. "Are you okay pup?" I pull his face off of me to look him over. No, blood or anything just red eyes from crying, that's good. He nods as I pull him back into a hug. "I'm sorry for worrying you like that but I'm okay now, see?" Giving him a lick on top of his head, and showing him a big smile. Before pulling him into a gentle hug.

"Okay. Just promise me you are alright." He returns the hug before sitting up, and using his shirt to wipe the blood away from my nose and off my muzzle.

I flinch in pain from his touch getting ready to do a once over to make sure I'm still in working order. Pinging my bodies nerves I check to make sure every thing is still in place, ears, tail, paws, foot-paws. Seems like every thing is good there. Taking a deep breath through my nose, I don't feel any pain. Only a little blood in my sinus cavity. Letting a deep sigh escape my mouth as I lick the sides of my muzzle to make sure all my teeth and fangs are there. Finally I give him a nod and smile. "Yeah hun, I'm fine. Just, that was one hell of a dream. I can still feel it a little."

"Good." He gives me a quick kiss then a smile, which quickly turns into a frown. "Tell me what happened." He demanded.

I sigh and nod at him. "Was a really out there dream. Woke up in a truck with what I thought was you. Only to find out I'm this white and black fox. You and your family where all Germen Shepherds. And... and you all started to kill me. Just beating me to death." I look down at the ground. All the pain flooding back to me in the form of a shiver.

Milo pulls my chin up with his paw. Planting another kiss on my lips for reassurance. "It's okay pup, it was only a dream. See?" He sits back and spreads his arms showing himself off to me. "I'm the wusky you care for, not a Shepherd." I nod in response giving him a weak smile. He then begins to look around to survey the area. Those cute blue tipped ears of his dipping some. "Keba... look" Holding his paw out to out where our car used to be.

I look around, and fold my ears back. Every tree with in sight was either knocked down, stripped of leaves save a few straggling ones, or cracked down the middle. The house across the street was nearly leveled, and houses behind it didn't fair much better. Quickly I look for our car, only to find it flipped on it's side about forty feet away from where we parked. Grabbing Milo's paw I help him stand up. "Lets take a look around."

He nods and gives my paw a squeeze holding onto it. "Okay. Lets go." We both walk towards the overturned silver car first. Wanting to see how bad the damage was. Each of us take a side. Milo the front and me the back. Hearing Milo snicker a little I look up at him with my head cocked. "Damn it there goes my dream car, doubt I'll ever see one again." He says then lets out a small sigh. "Karma really knows how to pay some one back."

Jogging over I look where he is pointing and let out a deep sigh. "Well I wouldn't say she deserved that from what she said, but if I remember right she was not a good person at all. So Karma definitely caught up with her." Shaking my head at what was left of her, nothing but what looked like red spray paint splattered over the hood and black interior of the Acura seeing as the front windshield was missing. In fact all the windows were missing, no trace of glass anywhere Only left to guess that the concussive force of the shockwave basically turned the feline into pink mist, and vaporized the glass on the car. Assuming we must of gotten lucky the house took a vast majority of the hit, I shrug with another small sigh "At least it was quick I guess."

He nods at me and looks down the driveway to behind the house. "Huh, one could say they used to have a garage and two cars. There goes the idea of having any transportation." A silver Mustang lay upside down, and the cream colored Ford Edge lay on it's side against the sports car. Both of which had no glass on them as well.

I return his nod with a grave one of my own, slowly walk towards my mate with a slight frown. Grabbing his paw, and giving it a squeeze. We both start walking to inspect the damage. "Heh, looks worse than if some drunk moron took this stuff to a demolition derby for the clinically insane." My best attempt at trying to lighten the catastrophic situation at hand.

He looks over at me saying with that silly grin of his plastered on his muzzle. "Wuff, you are bad at those kind of jokes." Now sticking his tongue out at me with a slight chuckle.

Mission accomplished, I stick my tongue out back at him. Apparently nothing will kill our mood together hoping that would be a good thing for what might happen in the aftermath, I thought to myself. I look around. My gaze finally resting on the backside of the house with my maw slightly agape. The building that stood before me was in shambles. Half the walls had collapsed. Leaving the front of the house to support all the weight. Thankfully it had otherwise there would be a couple flat canines out front. Fences it seems make great projectiles in a shockwave like we had, as they stuck out of some parts of the house akin to tooth picks in a ginger bread house. Seemingly though parts of the house were still intact. Top floor looked like one or two rooms still remained, and most of the bottom floor might be there too. Backdoor was for lack of a better word, inaccessible. Furnace room door however seemed to have grown into a hole about the size of the late garage door.

Sighing I look over at the wusky I'm holding paws with. "The hole looks to be our ticket in. Wonder if anyone else made it..." Looking down with a small bit of regret that I can't place why I feel that way for my family.

He gives me a solemn nod, and squeeze of the paw. "Lets go check, and hope for the best."
