Vadim woke up early the next morning and went to the kitchen to talk to James. The fox was at the table, sipping coffee and reading the paper like usual. Vadim sat across from him and drew up a conversation.

"I don't see how you can read that paper every morning. It's very regulated and full of lies."

James chuckled and took off his reading glasses he had on. "Well, I keep up on the business sections and weather. Everything else is just there. How are you feeling this morning Vadim?"

"Like a million bucks." Vadim said with a smile. "Do you mind if Sig and I tag along with you to work? I need to talk to Ilari as soon as possible."

"That shouldn't be a problem. Just wake up Sig because I'm gonna be leaving in about five minutes."

Without another word Vadim ran to Sig's room and rushed him to get up and get ready for the day. He quickly threw on some clothes and went to the bathroom, and was out in the kitchen in four minutes. Vadim, Sig, James, and Carol all went downstairs to the parking garage and hopped inside of James' sport sedan. They headed in to the downtown area, and dropped off Carol at her job first. They then proceeded to James' workplace, inside one of the biggest buildings in the city. He parked in the underground garage, and then the three foxes took an elevator to the 48th floor of the building.

"Ok boys, here we are. Now, Jimmy's office is right across from mine, so go to his door and knock on it."

The two foxes nodded as they went through the crowd of business furs inside of the office. They came to a door that read:

"Room 4812, Jimmy Fields."

Vadim knocked on the door, and was followed by a "Come in."

"Hello Ilari, we have some good news." Vadim told him.

The fox got a big smile on his face when he saw the two foxes walk in to his office. "Have a seat and tell me this 'good news.'"

"We found out where your sister went to on the betrayal, and we don't know if she's still down there or if she fled the city. Would you be willing to leave today?"

The fox got an even bigger smile on his face. "Ever since the betrayal, I sold everything so I could leave at a moment's notice. Let me say some goodbyes, and I'll meet you two in the lobby in about ten minutes."

Vadim nodded and the two foxes left the room. They weaved back through the business furs and made it to the elevator, which was empty.

"You know Vaddy, they say if you press and hold the door close button the elevator will not stop until it reaches the desired floor."

Vadim shrugged. "It's no big deal, besides I'm sure most people are in their offices already anyway." Right after Vadim said that, the door opened the floor below them and a fox hound standing over six feet tall walked in. Instantly both foxes let out a low growl and got closer to each other. The elevator door closed and the foxhound looked at them, smiling.

"I'm surprised you two aren't lifting your tails for me." The dog said with a smug look as he pressed the button for the 25th floor. "Last I heard it was custom for you to do that to our kind. Over the hundreds of years you've been doing it for us you'd think it would be in your genetics."

Vadim felt something inside of him snap, and even the though dog was taller, he grabbed him by the throat and pinned him against the elevator wall with a metallic thud.

"You listen here, fucker. If you so much as even think about touching either of us, I will fucking lynch your ass over a light pole. Got it?"

Fear swept over the dogs face as he quickly nodded. Vadim let go and went back next to Sig. The dog didn't make eye contact, but kept an eye on the fox for the rest of the time. When the dog finally got off, Vadim instantly started to vent.

"Who the fuck did he think he was? I mean I've heard of some asshole fox hounds, but that guy was just over the top. Gah, I can't believe he said that, those dogs are so unattractive. And evil."

Sig nodded in agreement. "I know, for all of the years they abused us, it's asinine for him to say something like that. Don't worry though; you put him in his place." The elevator reached the ground floor and they got out to sit at some chairs right next to it.

"I know, but still. I know there are a few foxes out there that are total sluts, but it's like that for any species."

The two sat there and talked about the subject for another ten minutes, when Ilari came down from the elevator. The trio left the building and started the short walk to the park.

"So how did you two find out about this place?"

"We were doing some recon on a park, and the furs down there captured us and brought us down there to ask us questions and show us around and stuff. There are quite a few like us down there, by the way." Vadim answered.

"This is great, but what do you mean by 'down there'?" Ilari had a puzzled look on his face.

"It's... Well you'll see." The foxes entered the park and were walking along the river's edge. "It's not too much farther up here."

After another five minutes of walking, they reached the bottom of the waterfall and walked on the rock pathway that went inside of it. It was dark inside, so Vadim felt around and found a small door, so he opened it. Inside was a lit up keypad, and he punched in the code. The rock door opened up, and the trio walked down the steps to the waiting jackal. Without a word, the jackal pushed a button.

"The vessel will be here shortly." He told the trio. Sure enough, a few minutes passed and the platform rose up with the other jackal standing on it. The three foxes stepped on, and Ilari looked amazed as they descended and entered the caverns. After a few minutes the platform reached the lake's edge and they stepped off.

"My goodness guys. This place is amazing. I'm sure she is here somewhere."

The foxes walked the short distance to the hotel, where they then went in to the dining area. Like always, Ivan was sitting there at the same table, reading a magazine.

"Hello Ivan, this is the fox I was talking about." Ivan got up and shook paws with Ilari.

"My name is Ivan Artyk. It's good to meet you."

Ilari smiled and shook his paw back. "I'm Ilari Khavin. My sister's name is Sasha Khavin, she's been missing since the betrayal."

Ivan's face lit up. "Ah yes, Sasha! She was one of the first foxes down here, even before I was. She helped me around the place, but she has since moved out of this city and in to a countryside town of Lumen. Now I was planning a trip out to the countryside today to show these fine foxes and two of their friends what it's like on the outside world, so we will make a trip to her city. It's quite a lovely town she lives in, very old and rustic. Now, going back to you two..." Ivan turned towards Sig and Vadim. "Your friends now have a place to live down here, and asked me to take you to them when you got here. Once we are done there we will head out, ok?"

"That's sounds fine by us." Vadim said.

"But first, we need to get you cell phones, it will be easier than meeting me down here every time to get a hold of me." Ivan stood up and started to walk towards the door.

"But I thought that cell phone service was turned off?" Ilari said.

"See, that's where we come in. As part of the resistance, we made cell phone towers with a different frequency and hid them on top of buildings around town. This frequency can be monitored with these new phones, and once we leave the city we switch to a different channel, so to speak. Now, Phil and Pavel bought their phones yesterday, and I'll give you their numbers when you get yours."

The four foxes walked a few buildings from the hotel to a small electronic store. "Now these phones are great, they're not like the ones we had a few years ago. These are smartphones, and one of the coolest things about them is the Wi-Fi capability. Not only will they pick up internet, but anything that uses an internet signal can be hacked. Like electronic doors for example, we can open them on command." Ivan went to a phone with a full keyboard on it, and a pretty big screen. There were cards in front of them with information, barcodes, and pricing. Ivan grabbed three of them and went to the counter. "Another great thing about these is you have to pay a 100$ service charge once, and you have service for as long as you have the phone."

The cashier, a reptile of some sort, rung them up, and went to the back to get the phones. A few minutes later he came back with three boxes, and started taking the phones out to activate them.

"Well, while I activate these I'll ring you up. The total for each phone will be $317.65, after activation. Now will you be paying for these separately, or together?"

Vadim stepped forward. "I'll pay for two, and he'll pay for one." He said as he pointed to Ilari. The cashier nodded as he continued to activate the phones. Ten minutes and a quick instruction later, they paid for the devices and headed over to Phil's new place. It was closer to the wall of the cavern, on the outside of the town. Streetlamps that never turned off illuminated the way as they walked down the cobblestone streets. They reached a small stone cottage and knocked on the heavy oak door. A few seconds later, the raccoon opened the door.

"Are you ready to go, Phil?" Ivan asked.

"Yeah. Come on, Pavel. Let's go!" He shouted in to the house. A minute later, the fox appeared and they headed down the street, away from the town.

Phil put his hand on Vadim's shoulder. "If you ever need anything, this is my new home. I started moving stuff here not long after you two left yesterday."

Vadim nodded at this. "I need to move a few things here from my room, if you don't mind. I'll do it next time we surface."

Not far from Phil's house was the wall of the cavern, where there was a big corridor ten feet high and wide that had some dim lights on the ceiling. The lights seemed to go on for miles. They entered a rail car, similar to the one Phil was used to, but it was bigger and it had seatbelts. There were a few rail cars behind the main one, attached to it. Altogether they looked to hold 30 furs, seated. One big difference was that there were two other rails that weren't being used to the right of them. They all sat down and put on their seatbelts, and Ivan pressed the 'Forward' button. It slowly started to gain speed, and after a minute it was going pretty fast.

"In about a minute we will be going 100 miles per hour." Ivan told the group. "We redesigned this thing to go fast because we have to travel over thirty miles to reach past the outside walls."

A few minutes later they were indeed going pretty fast. They saw lights up ahead, and another rail car quickly passed. Only this one was only driven by one fur and had a bunch of boxes in the rail cars following it. After a 20 minute ride, the cars started to slow down. It finally came to a stop at a wall, and they all exited the cars, feeling a bit woozy. Ivan led the group up a wide staircase that was well lit, and went through a set of double doors at the top. They then found themselves in a small room, which they quickly walked through and opened the doors to a room with chairs all around it. It had windows all around, and outside sat a few buses.

"Gentlefurs, welcome to the outside world." Ivan said proudly. "This is a bus station, but I have a car parked out in the back that we will take."

When they walked out, the group was amazed. Standing about five miles away stood the massive sandy stone walls of the city, towering hundreds of feet high. In the opposite direction were the open road and a green field with rolling hills. The weather was cloudy, looking like fog was starting to roll in during the mid-afternoon. They rounded the bus station to come to a big parking lot that was pretty empty. Ivan pressed a button and a sedan made a beeping sound. He hopped in the driver's seat and the others followed suit. Sig sat on Vadim's lap because there wasn't enough room.

Ivan pulled out of the lot and started heading down the road away from the city, and decided to give the others more information about the nation around them.

"We will be heading in to a forest shortly, and about seven miles in is the city. Now as you may have noticed, there is no Police presence out here, or military for that matter. That paranoid ferret dictator brought them all within the city to "keep the peace". Luckily most out here are easy going, and they never have any trouble. So feel free to be yourselves, because nobody will tell you otherwise."

"I can get used to this." Phil said as he put his arm around Pavel. The group continued down the road, and sure enough the terrain went from open fields to sparse pine trees, then a full forest of pine trees. It was like nothing they had ever seen before. Growing up in the city, they had parks but there was always the hustle and bustle of the city to ruin the mood. Out here, everything was so tranquil and peaceful. A few other cars dotted the road on the way there, but there wasn't a lot of traffic on this day.

After a bit more driving, the group reached the city limits and started to slow down. The town had a real old European feel to it, with cobblestone roads and buildings. It reminded Vadim of the underground caverns, only in sunlight. They parked in front of an old style bakery with a second story for housing and stepped out. Ilari's face lit up when he saw a younger arctic vixen inside, in her summer coat of fur. He dashed inside and gave her a big hug. Vadim smiled as he watched the two foxes hug, both caught up in there moment of happiness. When the group walked inside, Ilari introduced them.

"And if it wasn't for these two foxes right here," he pointed to Sig and Vadim. "I wouldn't be here today."

The fox gave both Sig and Vadim a hug. "Thank you so much for finding my brother. Come, let's eat some dinner and relax. Oh, and this fine lady over here is Mrs. Edna." Sasha pointed to an older hedgehog. "She owns this bakery and the home upstairs, and has been kind enough to let me stay here. Now let's get upstairs and eat. Does soup sound good to you guys?"

Everyone in the group nodded and followed her up the staircase. When they got inside the actual house, it had a real cozy feeling to it. There were a few doors leading to other rooms, and there was a screen door leading to an outdoor patio.

"Feel free to go out on the patio, guys." Sasha said. "There's even a Jacuzzi out there, but you'll have to go next door and buy some swimming shorts." Vadim and Sig looked at each other and smiled, then quickly headed back downstairs.

"We'll be right back!" Vadim yelled as they padded away. All of the buildings on this street were connected, and there was a door leading from the bakery to the clothing shop next door. The pair quickly picked out a pair of shorts and bought them, then headed back up to the house. Within five minutes, they were both changed and headed in to the spa. Both of the foxes melted when they entered the hot water. Sasha walked outside real quick to check up on them.

"I was planning on going in later, so that's why it was already on. Dinner will be ready in about half an hour, boys."

"Ok." Sig smiled. "Thanks for letting us use this."

"Hey, no problem. You led my only known family member here, I'm in your debt."

Sasha went back inside and continued to make dinner. After a couple of minutes Phil, Pavel, and Ivan sat at a nearby patio table. Ivan was talking to them about shooting.

"Which reminds me, everyone listen up. Starting tomorrow I will start you on shooting training, this way you will know what you are doing next time you're out in the field."

"I already know how to shoot." Everyone's attention was now on Phil. "From spending years down underground, I taught myself with the guns I took from guards and the Police."

"Well, good. This group needs a good arms leader. Show me your skills when we go out to the range tomorrow, and I may waive your training, Phil. Now, shooting takes a lot of concentration, and to be a good shot you must be at a good peace of mind. If not, then you will think about what is on your mind while you shoot, causing you to mess up. Just keep that in mind."

After relaxing in the hot tub for 30 minutes and talking to the others, dinner was ready and everyone went back inside. Vadim and Sig took some extra time to dry off and get dressed, and then they joined the dinner group. Sasha had made an onion soup with French bread and melted cheese on top. It was the perfect meal for a cold, cloudy day. After dinner, the group decided that they would let Ilari and Sasha do some catching up, and they said their goodbyes to them. Ivan suggested they get some hotel rooms to sleep in for the night, and then they would leave early the next morning. Vadim was shocked that a single bed room only cost $20 for a night, so he got a room with Sig, Phil got one with Pavel, and Ivan got one for himself. Vadim and Sig were both tired from their long day, and quickly drifted to sleep in each others arms.
