With that out of the way I guess it's time for CHapter 2, WAIT I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DISCLAIMER!!!!!! IF you are under age in your state then after this chapter you should stop reading my work, I don't tend to do things like Cub porn and what not, so until the main character is at least a young adult this story will remain clean. After that, we'll see what happens, but there will probably be some erotica. Anyway on to Chapter 2 of The Lost Tale of Levros
On my fifth birthday I was sitting in a tree with my back to the trunk, and studying the sky. Suddenly a strange colorful bird alighted on the branch infront of me and let out a soft musical tweet. I found myself staring at it, then blinked and said "Hello little one, can I help you with something?" It glanced at me and let out a soft musical sigh then flew off into the beautiful blue summer sky. I sighed softly and closed my eyes imagining what it would be like to be free and able to fly like that beautiful bird.
Suddenly the branch I was on started to shake and I heard someone laughing softly. I gripped it loosely as my Uncle Neros's voice asked "Isn't it unwise to waste the day away sleeping in a tree?" I replyed boredly "I wasn't sleeping Uncle Neros, I was just enjoying the sight of the sky and sounds of the forest." He laughed and said "JUst like your father, you always have an answer, don't you?" I shrugged and answered "Not always. However I do have an answer most of the time. Why?" He laughed again, this time at my response, and explained "Your father was the same way. IF he had an answer he would use it and expain, if not he said as much. He also had a habit of going off on his own when he needed to think, or escape your grandfather. On another matter, why exactly were you watching the sky?" I shook my head and refused to speak, figuring that he'd laufh if I exxplained. He seemed to underands and instead asked "Why not open your eyes?"
I opened one and said "Because after watching everything for a while I wanted to let them rest as I thought. " He smiled at my response and said "To bad that you can't let them rest any longer then. It's time to begin your training." I blinked then raised one eyeborw and asked "What do you mean by it's time to start my training?" He just smiled in response, and jumped out of the tree without a backward glance. I stared at him for a few seconds, then quickly followed. He glanced back to make sure I was behind him then started running at a rapid rate. I sped up to keep him in my line of sight, and he laughed in response. Suddenly he started weaving through the trees to throw me off. I just followed his footsteps exactly, having watched him train for months now, and prepared for the worst. After a few minutes I realized I wouldn't catch him from the ground. So, I jumped inot the trees to avoid leaving a trail, and try to get the jump on him.
Uncle Neros realized what Iw as doing though, and just changed tactics to compensate. He occasionally stopped causing me to pass him, so I had to constantly change my direction to keep him in view. He smiled as I started to catch up to him and said "You've gotten a lot better at keeping up since the last time we did this. However you still aren't quite as good as you think you are." I tried to ignore his comments, but they stuck in my mind and caused me to jump down and follow him from the ground. He laughed, then the two of us sped up. Suddenly he made a tight turn, and I slammed into a tree because I hadn't been expected it. I got to my feet and saw stars then quickly followed him. As I ran I shoook my head to try and clear it.
He saw me and laughed, then said "I hope you can react faster than that when you're life depends on it. Otherwise I'll have to tell your mother to lock you in your room whenever a battle begins." I swore softly and mumbled about irritating elves who wouldn't shut their mouths, then sped up and started to catch him. He seemed to hear what I'd been saying and started laughing at me. I growled softly and ran faster to catch up. My mind went over all sorts of things I could do to him when I caught up, and I settled on kicking him. He seemed to realize what I was thinking and sped up even faster then suddenly stopped. I ran a few feet past him then stopped and looked around, only to realize he'd led me to the training grounds behind the house. I stared at him in confusing and he said "Welcome to your first day of training. Today you'll meet your teachers, and learn the first of your many lessons. With that said, I believe the others should be here fairly shortly. So, you should have time to rest and recuperate."
I blinked as my natural curiosity came into play and started to quickly ask "What others? Are they also elves? How many of them are their? Did they also know my father and mother?" He laughed softly at my childishness and said "One question at a time my boy, one question at a time. Now for your first question, your other teachers of course. For your second, most of them are not elves, but they also aren't humans. As for the rest of your questions, I'll let you find those out for yourself." I glared at him annoyed he wouldn't tell me anything else, then sat down to wait and see what would happen next.
Uncle Neros looked at me for a while then yawned and casually stretched. I sighed and started studying him, as I'd planned on doing since he'd first said he'd become one of my guardians. The first thing I noticed was his hair, it was long and silver. This was an uncommon trait among elves, but at the time I didn't know it. Next I noticed that his eyes were a dark green, that always seemed to contain hidden laughter. He had a sharp cut nose and was about twice my height. His build was lithe and lean, which suited his long arms and legs. His hands were callused from handling sword and shield, but the fingers of his left hand were slightly bent from having been broken at least once before. His arms, which were well muscled, were coated in scars and the back of his right hand was branded with the mark of a slave.
He caught my eyes staring at the brand and said "I'm only a free man because of your grandfather. He rid the land of slavery, and weakend the slave trade in the surrounding regions." I nodded in understanding, and started wonger what slaves had to suffer, and how they could survive it. Uncle Nerose noticed my mind was wandering and waved a hand infront to me to catch my attention. I looked at him questioningly and he stated "Listen carefully and you may here your other teachers approach." I blinked then nodded in understanding an closed my eyes. As the distracting sights I'd seen slowly faded from my mind my hearing became more acute and focused. After a few seconds I heard the soft foot falls of someone carefully approaching from behind me, as well as the clink of chainmail and rustling of branches to my right. I opened one eye and saw that Uncle Neros was trying to hold back a smile. I quickly closed it again, and started listening for the rest of my 'teachers'.
Suddenly I heard the sound of heavy breathing coming from my left, as well as the sounds of metal rubbing against leather coming from directly behind and to either side of me. Suddenly from ahead of me and to the left I heard a gruff voice ask "Is the boy asleep on his feet?" Uncle Neros replied with a smile that showed in his voice "Possibly, Thera coddled him from a young age." I silently snorted and thought about calling Uncle Neros out on his lie, but I wanted to hear more of what the voice had to say. THe voice snorted and said "Another warrior princess ruined by motherhood. I always thought she'd be one of the few to remain strong, despite Jason's trying to tame her." Uncle Neros laughed and replied "What a courtship that was. Jason went through hell to catch THera's hand, and through so much more to win her heart." I smiled imagining my parennt's wedding and courtship, as my mother had described it.
The voice shook me out of my mental wanderings with a heavy, deep throated sigh. It took a breath and said "Shadow always was a determined fool. I guess that's why he saved that recruit you always talk about, without any thought of the trouble it would cause. I miss the damn young fool, and so do most of the others." Uncle Neros sighed in response and said "As do I old friend, as do I." Suddenly a dark menacing voice, which made me think of snakes crawling through dead leaves, whispered in my ear "Well, it appears my latest student is already able to unobstrusively listen. That's a wonderful sign for our trade." I kept myself from reacting, and they laughed at how hard it was for me to keep from shivering. Suddenly the laughter stopped and a lighter more feminine voice said "Why are we training a young child Neros?" Uncle Neros sighed softly and said "Because of three things. The first is that now is not a time for children to be left unkonwing in the arts of war. The secon is he personally doesn't have the time to grow up normally. I wish he did, but his father, and the gods, had other plans. The third and final reason is that I am not one to deny the dead. Are you, Acros, Son of Drakus the smith?"
Achros, who was the gruff voice I'd heard at the start of all this, said "Not on your life my friend. That's why I am glad the young lass asked my question for me. On another matter, is Everyone here?" Uncle Neros sighed and seemed to be looking around, then said "Everyone except Jarek. Do you happen to know where he is?" A voice from above suddenly said "I've been here since the boy and you went on a rampage through the forest. Although the boy made less of a rampage than you, Neros. You must have lost your abiliity to be quiet from all the duels you were in." The others laughed, and after a few minutes Uncle Neros joined in. Finally my curiosity got the better of me and I opened my eyes. I quickly glanced around the clearing trying to find out who, and what, was going to be teaching me. The first person who caught my eye was Uncle Neros, and next to him was a rather tall dwarf.
His head was about level with the center of Uncle Neros's chest, and his eyes were as grey as stone. Despite that they contained a lot of expresion, and contrasted with his salt and pepper beard. His hair was slightly more grey than his beard, and went down to the very top of his armor, which was almost dented to the point of disuse. His arms were as thick and gnarled as tree roots, and his hands were callused to the point of old leather. His face was covered in frown lines and scars, but despite that I got the feeling he was a good man. He caught my eye and snarled softly, causing me to laugh in response and glance to his left. Standing there was a beautiful female drow with streaks of red in her mostly white hair. Her eyes were light blue blue in contrast to a normal drows which were red, and sparkled with an innner kindness and joy. She was slightly taller than Neros and had a single scar running down over her left eye.
Her hands rested comfortably on the hilts of her dual sabers, and reflected the skill she held over them. I noticed she had a slim figure clothed in mythril plate armor that perfectly showed of her slim feminine figure, yet left no gap for an enemy weapon to get through. Her stance reflected the freedom and ferocity of a wild animal, and the very sight of her caused stirrings that my childish form couldn't understand. I caught her eye and she smiled at me kindly then I slowly pulled my eyes away and looked to Uncle Neros's right. Standing there was a mage in emerald robes, but unlike many mages I'd met he wasn't stooped with age. He was young, strong, and and in the prime of his life.
His eyes were the amber of freshly spilled tree sap and shined with his inner power. His arms were rather well muscled, and carved into his left hand was the rune for nature. Branded farther up on his left arm was the unicorn which was the symbol of the goddess of nature. He was clean shaven, had dark brown hair that fell to his shoulders, and was just barely shorter than Uncle Neros. Standing to his right was a halfling with his hands in his pockets and a guilty smile on his lips.
He stood a full head and a half shorter than the dwarf. He had a youthful face, and curly brown hair that hung just past his eyes yet framed his face. He wore a saphire pendant around his neck, yet kept looking away from the dwarf as if trying to ignore him. I got the feeling that he'd gotten the pendant from the dwarf, which is why he wasn't willing to catch his eye. His eyes were ruby red, and had specks of brown within them. He smiled darkly at me and bowed mockingly then went back to watching the dwarf. Slowly I turned away from him and looked to my right, where a tall figure wearing furs looked down at me. I slowly followed the trail of the furs up to what appeared to be a bull's head. I instinctively jumped back and stared at the figure realizing it was a minotaur. I remembered the stories of how minotaurs would eat bad children and attack people on deserted roads. He took one look at my petrified form and let out a loud booming laugh.
I stared at him surprised, then decided to actually sstudy him. He was wearing furs on his upper body that matched the color of the natural fur on his legs, tail, the backs of his hands, and his muzzle. The fur was all dark brown. His arms were twice as thick as the dwarf's, his feet were actually bovine hooves, and his large dark brown bovine eyes expressed his inner heart. He had large wide nostrils that fit his muzzle perfectly, and wicked sharp horns. As he finished laughing I noticed that his horn had a golden ring around it, and his eyes were full of kindness. I noticed the battle axe strapped to his back and the rest of his muscular physique, which many women would have fallen head over heals in lust because of. I kept looking around so as not to be staring at his groin which was at my eye level. He smiled at me and some of my tension melted away. He caught my eye then looked away and said "Sorry for laughing, but that was highly amusing my boy. It appears the world still portrays us darkly."
I nodded and said softly "Most people still remember the wars, sir." The minotaur laughed at that and I turned to my left to find out who had the strange rasping voice that had scared me so badly earlier. Instead of the evil old man I expected to find, I found myself staring at the torso of a young female Vixian. Vixians or Vulpans as they call themsleves, are a race of half human, half foxes. I tried looking around her, but after a few minutes I realized she was the only person around so I studied her. She was probably only fifteen, had bright green eyes and fox ears. She had a bushy tail, and what the soldiers would call the start of a fine figure. I felt the same inner stirrings when I looked at her as when I looked at the dark elf. Her hands, feet, arms, and legs were all covered in a thin layer of fur. Her legs were shaped a bit more like a foxes, and ended in paws rather than human feet. Her hands had rough pads on the palms and fingers of them. Also her fingers ended in sharp nails that looked wickedly dangerous.
Her hair was a dark auburn in contrast to the bright reddish orange fur that covered most of her body. Her arm fur turned white on her wrists, and her hands were covered in black, same with her legs. Her tail, which was mostly the same color as her other fur, had a bright white tip almost like she'd put it in a bucket of white paint, and her ears had black tips. I had a feeling that if the slave trade were still open, which the Vixian and Vulpans were a very expensive type of slave in some countries, she'd definitely cost a lot on the market. I shook my head to stop staring and caught a glimpse of her fangs as she smiled. That reminded me of the fact that Vulpans were split into two groups, those who looked more human, and were considered hybrids by their cousins, and those who looked more animalistic and were called anthros. Foxes weren't the only group of anthros, but most of the others stayed hidden in the deep woods.
She raised an eyebrow as she saw me shaking my head and asked "Are you done studying me, youngling?" in a voice that went from deep and scraggl to light and melodic. I blinked, causing her to laugh and say "Surprised you, didn't I?" I nodded and she turned away with a light hearted smile. I slowly turned to look behind me and saw that two more people stood there watching us all. The first was an orc with a rather large bow strapped to his back, and leathery skin that seemed to have endured time immemorable. He had bright bule veins scattered all across his skin, but mostly they showed up on his arms and hands. His eyes however glowed with inner strength as if to bely his outter appearance of age and weakness.
I shivered at the feelings of strength and power emanating from him, then turned to his left where a human girl wearing a bracelet of the arcane on her wrist. She carried a staff covered in the markings of her craft in her laft hand, and in her rightshe held a diamond thatsparkled with inner light. My eyes were drawn to the diamond which seemed to be breathing as it emanated her pure arcane power. I slowly drew my eyes away from the diamond to her amethyst eyes, which flashed for a second as she assed me then softened slightly. She softly whispered "You passed my first test, for you have the gift." I didn't understand so I looked up and away from her. I suddenly heard a laugh and moved my eyes so they could seek out and find who had made it. When I finally found the source I saw a young elven ranger sitting there watching me. He was rather tall, and seemed to be studying me. Suddenly he jumped down from the tree and said "Well he definitely looks like Shadow, but does he have the same ability to learn? I guess since that's what we're here to find out, we should probably start."
I instantly felt a skinship to the elf, but kept those feelings off my face. He seemed to read them anyway and shook his head in response. I glared at him then walked to the middle of the clearing defiantly, with my head held high. When I got there I closed my eyes and breathed deeply, then opened them with renewed determination. I slowly took one last breath then said, with a loud and proud tone of voice, "I am Jake Shadow. Sometimes I'm called Jake Wolf in honor of my grandfather. I am the son of Jason Shadow and Thera Dragon Heart. I am the grandson of Draven Shadow, known as the leader of the wolf pack and primary follower of the wolf god. I challenge you all to state your name and buisness at the house of my ancestors!!!!!!!" They stared at me then Uncle Neros laughed and stepped forward.
He smiled at me and said "Spoken like the true son of Thera and Jason, should speak. I am Neros Deroth, former slave. I earned my freedom, and with it the right to call any man my equal. I am here to teach you the ways of knighthood. Does that scare you, or do you feel prepared for what I am going to offer?" I shoook my head in ansswer to the 'Does that scare you?' and stood with my head held high in response. The dwarf spat in disgust then spoke next. He growled and said "I am Achros son of Drakus the smith. However my second name is Runek Destro. I'm here at the request of two friends to teach an old friends whelp, shield use and hand to hand combat. What give you the right to question me, boy?" I walked up to him and said softly "The fact that I am my father's son, and as such have worked hard for my people." He stared at me taken aback and the drow next to him laughed. I looked at her and she said "I've never before seen this old fool put ins his place by a child. With that said, let me introduce myself. I am Kara Kintaak, outcast of the Kintaak clan. I came to meet a possible pupil for dual weapons, and I also came to teach him the sword and throwing weapons. I smaled at her in thanks then turned to the nature mage standing to Uncle Neros's right. I studied him again and he smirked then said "I'm here to teach you lore, nature magic, and many other things. My name is Kel Oakheart."
I bowed my head in respect then looked at the halfling next to him. The halfling bowed mockingly again and said "I am Tyrell Quickhands. I'll be teaching you about the city, and the life of a rogue. If you feel to moral to take my lessons I'll have to show you what morality gets you." I smiled slightly at the ideas of what he could teach me then turned toward the minotaur. The minotaur smiled and said "My name is Darex Headcrusher. I am here to teach the son of the man who taught me piece, war and use of heavy weaponry. It's an honor to mee the one and only son of my old mentor Shadow." I nodded my head in greeting, then looked at the vulpan girl. She yawned and said "Dena Vulpis at your service. I'm here to teach an arrogant boy several trades including mainpulating one's speach." I smiled in response then turned toward the orc.
He stared at me for a few minutes then said "I'm here to teach you, archery and horsemanship." I grinned thinking I could probably teach him a thing or two about horsemanship. The orc just laughed at my expression and watched me carefully. I slowly turned toward the arcane mage and my grin died as she raise an eyebrow. I watched her carefully and she said "I was here to see if you had the gift. Now that I'm sure you do, I'm here to teach you the arcane arts and how to harness them. When you are old enough you could possibly go to the academy, do you understand?" I nodded then slowly turned around as I heard someone toss something to the ground and snort. When I was fully turned around, the elf glared at me and said "I am Jarek Shadows. I'm here to test you and possibly teach you. So let's have the testing begin." The others quickly left the clearing and circled around the two of us so they could watch what happened.
I looked at each of them in turn then faced Jarek again. He smiled mockingly and said "If you somehow manage to hit me once before I make you pass out, I'll agree to train you." I nodded slowly and allowed my energy to spread throughout my body, as the old sage on the hill had told me to do last year, then rushed at him with my hands balled into fists. He easily sidestepped my attack, then decked me in the back of the head as I turned to lash out at him. I reeled from the blow, but kicked out at him even as I stepped back. He stepped back and grabbed my leg stopping me from losing my blance, and pulled me close. I slammed my head into his side and he let go of me. I fell from the loss of balance, then got to my feet. He laughed softly and said "Looks like it's time for me to be serious."
I blinked and wondered what he meant, then jumped back as runes of power started appearing all over his body. He smiled at the slightly shocked expression on my face, then rushed into me. Before I could move he slammed his fist into my stomach causing me to cough up a stream of blood and fall to my knees. He watched me for a few seconds thens aid "Get up. If you truly want to prove you have any of your father's ability then you'll get up right now, boy." I slowly climbed to my feet as adrenaline and rage coursed through my veins, and glared at him with pure hatred in my eyes. He stepped back slightly at the demonic cast it gave my appearance, then Uncle Neros suddenly said "Jarek, I think it wise for you to stop now." Jarek ignored him and watched me carefully as the others chimed in their own opinions. Suddenly he rushed at me again, but this time I saw him coming. I'm not sure what was different other than my derermination to defeat him, but something allowed me to see his move before he made them.
He swung his fist at my face and I ducked under the blow, then kicked him in the side and hopped back. He dropped to his knees, then slowly got up and put his hands together forming a mass of saphire and emerald energy between them. I stared at it then turned and run up the nearest tree. He laughed darkly and released the energy, which followed me up the tree and from branch to branch as I tried to escape it. After a few minutes of wasted effort I came up with a crazy idea and jumped at Jarek feet first. He blinked and ducked causing me to fly past him and land on the ground a few steps away. As he came back to his feet, the energy blast he'd conveniently fired at me, slammed into him and sent him flying back into a tree. I quickly jumped to my feet as he coughed up a thin stream of blood and climbed out of the hole he'd caused into the tree's bark. Suddenly he blasted me with another wave of energy, causing me to nearly pass out and lose control of my emotions.
My anger consumed me, and I slowly pulled the shadows all around the clearing to me and wrapped them around me like a cloak. I vanished from everyone's sight then slipped behind Jarek and thrust a blade made of shadows and crimson energy through his stomach. He burst into a wave of energy that blinded me and caused me to stumbled backward. I closed my eyes, since they were of no use, and suddenly yelled out as something large and heavy slammed into the back of my head. It was to much for my poor childish five year old body to handle, and I started to pass out. As everything started to fade to black I heard "Jarek say "He definitely passes. He was able to use the shadow cover like nothing, which proves he's Shadows son. I think we'd best take him in now Neros, you can tell Lady Fara she was right. He definitely has chaotic energy, which is what allowed him to harness Shadow's abilities at such a young age." Uncle Neros tersley replied "Fine, but you're explaining to Jake's mother why you pushed him to the very brink of death, without causing any critical physical wounds."
Jarek sighed and replied, but all I heard was mumbling. Suddenly I found myself in a humongous chamber full of pillars made from different colored light and energy. Each one made me feel different emotions, although one that was black and crimson made me feel complete. Between each of the pilars was a giant throne that carved in different forms and reliefs. I shivered at the auras some of them gave off, and how life like they appeared.
I slowly tured around and found myself face to face with the very beings my mother had told me so many stories about. It was all of the gods themselves, even the demon, the shadow, and the chronicler who people feared the most. Slowly I turned to the demon and said "I would swear you were banished to the halls of Nekeroth. So, why and how are you here lord of the demons?" He laughed bitterly and said _ "I was invited to the kings hall for some strange reason. I would rather be gone from the hall of the only one who I ever truly gave my allegiance to. However I have an obligation to the lady of Fate, so here I am. Now for my own question, why and how are you here, boy?" _ I thought about that and said "I'm probably dead, since the hall of kings was taken to the ether realm by the great dragon himself so many millenia ago. Also most living beings can't converse with the gods, let alone see and argue with one of them, such as yourself." The demon laughed and said _ "How very astute of you, but sadly you're wrong. You aren't dead, if you were your spirit would be in it's true form. I highly doubt a soul as strong as yours would remain in the form of a young child, so I believe you are still alive." _
Suddenly another more feminine voice said _ "Sark, I can answer your questions even if the boy can't. You are here because the boy was born under all signs, including your own. The boy is here because I brought his mind here as his body heals after his battle with my champion. My champion is the only mortal to have ever bested a god in any form, whether it be true or mortal. My champion is known as Jarek Shadows, and he is your last enemy. Their families are distant cousins, but unlike Jarek the boys family is blessed by our friend Sentarou the shadow." _ Sark laughed at that and waited for her to explain more. I turned and studied her as he waited. She had hair that seemed to be woven of moonlight, eyes like flawless diamonds that reflected everything and contained the warmth of the sun. Her gown seemed to be woven from nature itself, and perfectly accentuated her figure which was the eptiome of femininity. As I finished studying her she said "I brought him here because my brother chose him, unlike so many others. He has the blood and energy of my brother, Katoran Dentare, Lord of Chaos and Corruption. However like my brother he has only accepted Chaos and through it the burden of the name Katoran." Sark stared at her increduously, then his eyes changed colors and he studied me carefully. I looked at the two of them with a confused look.
Sark had realized just how serious she was as he studied me and growled softly with a studying glare. I blinked then glared back and said "I don't even understand what's going on so don't blood well glare at me like I'm the monster. You're the demon who betrayed Chaos to Corruption and tried to destroy my world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Sark laughed at my reaction at first, but as I continued his eyes slowly grew darker. The woman stared at me seeming aghast at what I'd done. Suddenly the demon laughed softly and said _ "I like his spunk. May be this one can finally stop Dentare and what has been broken will be made whole. Hopefully he can slip into the cavern of Dentarou and return the lost blade the hall." _ She nodded then said_ "Today I will grant him the first of many boons he'll recieve throughout his life. You're boon is this, no matter what happens, you shall never loose the skills you've gained. Even if you were to forget your entire life, your skills would still be there awaiting you to call upon them. You shall also never lose your name, nor anything you have already learned, or skills you gain. You will also never lose any physical attributes, but you can always appear human if that is your wish." _
As her words faded into the air a strange light surrounded me, and I felt myself growing stronger. I also felt as if every door that had ever existed in my mind opened completely. She smiled seeing the look of surprise on my face and said "I am Faya goddess of Fate, and these are my boons to you for now. With that, I believe it is time for you to sleep as we gods talk among ourselves." Everything started to fade as she and Sark walked away among the collumns with the other gods in tow. My last thoughts were "I probably shouldn't completely trust the gods." Sadly for several years I didn't folllow my own thoughts. I actually didn't follow it until much much later in life. Then again, maybe that's how the lady Fate wanted things to work out.
