Silnis
*****
The day came when Kain took his final test. No one was to witness it so we all stayed in our rooms, waiting to see if he would pass or not. Other students say the test would usually take about half an hour or more, depending on each individual. I waited for thirty minutes yet Kain hadn't returned. Two hours passed and I fell asleep, hoping that Kain would pass. I awoke later to the sound of the door creaking open and there stood Kain with a smile on his face.
"I did it Silnis. We can go home now," he said. My face was beaming with joy as I ran up to Kain and embraced him, tears damping the fur under my eyes. This was the moment we had both been waiting for, the day when Kain passed his final test and we could home. We would prepare for our journey back home today, and leave early tomorrow morning.
Kain and I spent all afternoon buying supplies for our journey back home. All we would need was food and water, considering that I was now a wolf and can handle great distances or bad weather. Kain and I stopped to rest in the city plaza where a grand fountain dribbled water that sparkled like diamonds. I had my head rested against his shoulder as he held me close to him, every so often looking at me with those golden eyes of his.
"Are you excited to go home after all these months?" Kain asked, brushing my fur. I nodded, giving him a warm smile.
"I wonder how much has changed since we been gone. I hope nothing bad happened," I wondered, starting to get a little concerned. Kain brushed my head fur and shushed me.
"I'm sure nothing bad happened. I know your father can keep things orderly and calm so there's no need to worry," Kain reassured me.
"I guess you're right, but still, what if Drake is waiting there for us?" I asked, shivering at the thought of the prince.
"If he's waiting for us then I'll be there to protect you. I love you too much to see him take you away from me," Kain promised, nuzzling me. I giggled, recalling how many times Kain had promised me something.
"I love you too much to see you get hurt my big wolf," I joked, poking him. "What big ears you have. What big eyes you have. What big teeth you have,"
"The better to eat you with my love," Kain teased, softly nibbling on my ear and neck. We both played around with each other like little kids, chasing each other around or playing hide and seek. A few bystanders thought we were crazy but we didn't care, this was one of the happiest days of our lives.

We were both restless that night, eager to leave in the morning. The final test was...not an easy one, but I passed and that's all that mattered. We could finally go back home and live our lives again, assuming if Drake gave up on Silnis. Now that I was stronger than before, I could protect Silnis and he wouldn't have to sacrifice anything for me. I'd rather have me be the one sacrificing for him just so he could be happy.
"Kain...," I heard Silnis say.
"Yes? You need something?" I asked, looking over at him. He turned around and gave me the most dazzling smile I've ever seen.
"Could you tell me how we met again? When we were kids, I mean," Silnis wondered, moving closer to me.
"I thought you said you didn't believe my story the last time I told it?" I questioned. He giggled and gave me peck on the cheek.
"It's amazing what love does to a person. If someone loves someone then they both have to trust and believe in each other, right?" Silnis said. I petted his head, making him murr.
"All right, I'll tell you again," I agreed, lying on my back while Silnis rested on top of me.
*****
Today was just as normal as any other day, boring as usual. Unity was a great town and all, but it was lacking something...something important. I stood in my usual spot in the town square, relaxing under the shadow of a tree. I heard giggling nearby and cracked open my eyes to see a group of girls staring and pointing at me. They were pretty, true, but no one knew of my interest in boys.
I then heard footsteps and a human boy walked into the town square, looking lost. I noticed that he looked like he was about to cry, tears welling up in his eyes. Something about him was...attractive to me. Like something was pulling me to him. I watched him from my spot as he sat by the fountain and wiped his eyes.
"Father is going to kill me if I go home now. What should I do?" he asked himself. He must be new to this town, getting lost in a small and simple town like this. I got up from my spot and walked over to him, wondering if I should help him.
"Excuse me but are you lost?" I asked, standing in front of him. He looked up and my heart skipped a beat. He was...beautiful, even if he was crying.
"Oh, sorry, I must look terrible crying like this," he apologized, wiping his eyes with his sleeve.
"No...I mean...you look great, but you looked lost and all so I wanted to help," Why was all of a sudden nervous talking to him?
"Really?! You'd help me?!" he questioned, his eyes beaming with joy.
"Sure...," I agreed.
"Thank you!" he exclaimed, jumping up and hugging me. My heart was racing. He was hugging me! It felt...warm and nice almost.
I helped him with his errands and always had the urge to stare at him, sometimes wanting to touch him. I've only met him yet I had all these things I wanted to do with him. Was I...falling in love with him? No...it couldn't be love, maybe just a crush. Still, what was this attraction I had to him? The urge to touch or always be near him was something I've never felt before.
After his errands were all done, we sat by the fountain and relaxed for a bit, watching the sun set. I rested my eyes and sat a few feet away from him, trying to fight the urge to be near him. Cracking my eyes open, I saw him glancing at me every so often, smiling. Did I have something on me? I scanned my body but found nothing wrong with my body. Was he checking me out? I was in good shape though I was only ten. Did he find me attractive as well?

What a life saver he was. I don't know what I be doing if he hadn't shown up. Still, it was nice of him to help me, considering I was a human. I've heard from my father that in other lands, furries and humans hate each other and want nothing to do with one another. That doesn't seem like the case with this town...and that wolf.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but my name's Silnis. What's yours?" I asked, realizing that we never asked for each other names before.
"My name is Kain," he said without opening his eyes. Kain...it suits him. I looked at him, observing his physique. His fur was black as night and he looked to about ten years old, maybe older. Something about him just made me want to move a little closer to him and feel his fur, an urge like no other. I took my chances and scooted closer to him, careful not to wake him up. Slowly, and cautiously, I reached out my hand to touch his fur when he suddenly jumped up, making me jump back. Did he know? I knew I shouldn't have done it but the urge was too great.
"I...I'm sorry. I'll just go now," I apologized, getting my stuff. I turned to leave when he grabbed my hand, completely shocking the both of us. Our eyes met and I saw a need of wanting something...no someone. Did he...like me?

I was still resting when I heard him move. I cracked my eyes open and saw that he had moved closer to me, looking like he was thinking about something. Then, he reached out his hand to touch me, getting closer to me. I panicked and jumped up, scaring him. He had a guilty look on his face, seemingly regretting something.
"I...I'm sorry. I'll just go now," he apologized, getting his stuff. He was about to leave when something inside me screamed to get him. I suddenly grabbed his hand, the both of us shocked. He looked back at me and I saw that he wanted me just as much I wanted him.
"Silnis...I want to ask you something!" I said, letting my grip on him loose.
"Yes...," he said, turning slightly back to me.
"I was wondering if we could met back here...tomorrow...if that's all right with you," I asked him, thinking he would say no.
"Yes...I mean it's fine with me. I don't have any plans tomorrow so...I can meet you here," he agreed, smiling a little bit.
"Really? You want to be friends!?" I said aloud, regretting what I just said. "I mean...," Silnis came up to me and gave me a hug, giggling.
"Yes, I'd love to be friends," he said, giving me one last smile before turning to leave. He...actually wants to be friends...with me! Not only did he say he wanted to be friends, but he said he would "love" to be friends. I felt that things were starting to get interesting in Unity now.

"Who knew that we being friends would later turn out to us being mates," I said, playing with Kain's fur.
"Maybe because we were meant to be," Kain said, nuzzling me. I playfully licked him back and pressed our mouths together, our kiss always full of love and passion.
"I love you Silnis," Kain said, through our kiss.
"I love you too Kain," I said, pressing myself harder onto him. Tomorrow we would leave for home, change was no doubt to happen, but our love would never change but only grow stronger.
