The goblin is so giddy as she struts down the street. Though she’s not quite coordinated enough to make it without stumbling here and there, it’s certainly not enough for people to stare at her—right?
Of course, they are staring, but mostly to turn their gaze as they pass. She can see this from the corner of her eye and she’s beaming. Imagine what everyone at the arcade would think when they see her.
But, it’s early morning, and the arcade has a big “Closed’ sign hanging from its door. The perky ears of the transformed goblin droop and she whines slightly at the misfortune of it all.
But she freezes, sniffing the air. Something smells so very strong, and it smells so very roasty! She whips around to cross the street to another shop with the sign of a coffee mug on it. Placing a hand to her very soft, very slender cheek, Trishy gasps. “I can… I can do something classy now,” she murmurs, biting her lip.
Glancing this way and that and then lifting her phone high, she opens the camera and takes a picture of herself. Staring at the beautiful woman standing before her, she smiles wider than in her picture. Anastasia never seemed to smile like that, but for Trishy, this shape and body are perfect enough to make her heart flutter and her core warm up. She squeals and holds the phone close to her heart, sighing happily. “Oh, thank you oh-so-much, Anastasia, for the opportunity!”
Trishy’s heels click as she moves across the street. Cars stopped, and people opened the door for her, letting her enter the cafe with no problem. As soon as she passes through the doors, she bumps into the person in front of her in line.
The young woman in a sweater stumbles forward and whirls around, her eyes looking up at Trishy’s, staring at her through thick glasses. “Hey!” she squeaks, only to catch her breath in her throat. “O-oh, I’m so-sorry miss,” the woman says, rubbing her sweater-clad arm.
Trishy’s heart thumps even faster. The human standing before her looks so vulnerable and so cute. How can the goblin girl not want to bite her lip in her presence?
“Ooops. Guess it was my fault!” Trishy said, shrugging. “I’m Trishy, what’s your name?”
The woman blinks, her mouth opening wide, closing, and opening again. “I-it’s, uh, it’s Annalise.”
“Such a beautiful name,” the taller woman says with a huskier voice, placing a hand on her shoulder. With a gentle squeeze, Trishy adds. “I don’t know why I didn’t see you when I came in. You’re quite the sight, after all.”
Annalise’s blush deepens at Trishy’s flirting, but she pulls away. She tugs at her ears and looks downward. “N-no I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been standing so close to the door!” she murmurs.
Frowning, Trishy takes a breath, but the barista calls for the next person, and Annalise turns and rushes to order.
Trishy folds an arm just under her chest. It supports the elbow of her other arm, and she taps her cheek with her finger, pondering when the barista calls for the next person to arrive.
“Get me what she’s having,” Trishy says, “and I’ll pay for her coffee.” She whips out Anastasia’s card. Elf cards are always worth it, glittering gold and silver to show off prestige.
“R-right away, ma’am!” the black cat on the other side mewls, punching in the alterations.
Annalise sits in a corner, waiting for her drink, scratching her hair, and scrolling frantically through her social media accounts.
Her concentration on her doomscrolling breaks when Trishy sits down beside her.
“Hey, you don’t have to be worried about me,” Trishy admits, sitting with one leg crossed over the other. She lets her shoe dangle on her hose-clad toes.
Annalise’s gaze focuses on that leg and bouncing shoe, but she tears it away to look at Trishy in the eyes. “For real?”
“For real,” says Trishy. “You remind me of myself a little, and I think we can be friends.” She says this as an idea springs to her mind. She hoods her eyes, rolls back her shoulders, and sits tall, facing Annalise. “Or, for the very least, we can get to know each other for the next hour or so.”
Annalise’s mouth drops open, but that’s when her name is called, and she hops up, scurrying over toward the barista, snatching the drink, and then chugging down a huge gulp.
She yelps and holds out her tongue, waving her hand in front of it to cool down the burnt sensation.
Trishy stands up and smiles. “You know, I spilled coffee on myself today,” she says. “Was quite the hassle.” She leans on the counter, grabbing her newly-prepared drink. “How far is your place, Anna. I’d love to learn more about you.”
Anna’s eyes tear up as she looks to the stronger, staller, more confident woman before her. Squirming in place, she runs her finger around the rim of her drink. “I, uh, actually live right above the Arcade across the street.”
Trishy giggles, placing a hand on the woman’s cheek. “Well, then, don’t you just keep getting better and better.
And so, thanks to her newfound confidence, Trishy grabs herself a new acquaintance!
Meanwhile, Anastasia huddles up in the goblin’s clothes, shivering and sneezing. “I’ll get that little troll,” she mumbles to herself. She’ll have to wait and see, but I’ll get her!”
Anna opens the door to her modest little apartment, her face bright red, as she leads the confident and tall Trishy into the studio. Everything is out in the open, and the single keeps her room clean, tidy, and open enough that an echo still reverberates occasionally.
Trishy stares wide-eyed as she looks around the place, spinning around with her hands outstretched. “This place is so beautiful!” she squeals, giggling.
