PRELUDE.
Earth 2349
America.
The shuttle eased down onto the landing pad in the small town, once it stopped, the passengers alighted the craft, carrying what baggage they brought with them. One of the passengers was an elderly man, in his early 60's. He walked with a limp, as his artificial foot clicked and clacked against the concrete tarmac. He carried a walking cane, with a metal foxes head adorned on the top.
As he entered the building that served as the towns' airport, he waited in line with the other humans. The absence of furs surprised him at first, until he saw the Holy Christen Kingdom banners on the wall, proclaiming love and peace to all mankind. Shaking his head with sorrow, he slowly made his way to the desk, where a young but very tired man was screening the passengers.
Walking up to the desk, the elderly gentlemen produced his papers and ID chip.
The young man didn't even bothered to look up, he only inserted the chip in the slot and asked for the mans thumb print, when it glowed green, he stamped the papers and handed it back, with a courteous "Have a Nice Stay." Which was followed by "Next."
Leaving the building, the old man hailed a PTV and instructed the nav-computer to drive to the towns' cemetery. Once he arrived, he fished out piece of paper and read the plot number and location.
Upon reaching his destination, he knelt down at the tomb stone and started to weep. One hand resting on the name, as the other held onto the walking cane. He shook with grief and sorrow, for the time that was lost with his beloved. Sniffling and wiping his tear stricken eyes, he stood up and said a final farewell to the resting place of his mate and companion.
"May your soul and spirit now find peace in the Hunting grounds of the snow covered fields of Tibet, my sweet Yuki-Tenshi." He whispered, then he was aware of another presence, looking up, he saw a male fox morph, old and carrying a single white rose and leaning on a walking frame.
"Evening sir." The human male replied, smiling.
"Good evening." The fox responded, warily watching the human for any sudden movements.
The human slowly got back too his feet, groaning from aches and pains, then he turned and walked a few feet from the grave and waited.
The fox watched him for moment, the proceeded to pay his respects to the same grave site. Once he was finished, he looked again at the human, who was wearing a weathered trenched coat, dirty, but not old shirt. Worn jeans with a few holes in them and one shoe, black. Looking again at the humans feet, he saw an artificial foot, or is it a paw? It was hard to tell, as the jeans leg kept hiding it now and then.
The human had a full face beard and long scraggly hair. Despite his appearance, he took pride in his hygiene, as the fox's keen sense of smell could detect the scent of aftershave and mouth wash.
"Visiting a friend are you?" the fox asked, leaning on the frame.
"No my dear gentlefur." The man replied, leaning on his own cane.
"Paying my respects to my soulmate and mother to my child." He answered, still smiling.
At this statement, the fox growled and chuffed.
"Impossible, I am hir soulmate, and father to hir child." He growled, now really getting angry.
Sensing the foxes growing anger, and trying to calm him down before either of the elderly males hurt each other, the human reached into his jacket pocket and produced an old, yet still visible photographed, and handed it to the fox, who hesitantly took it, and looked at the picture.
On it was a younger version of the man standing before him, and he was smiling as he was hugging a foxtaur, and from the appearance, a stellar foxtaur. Shi could have been any foxtaur, except for hir eyes. Those eyes, so beautiful and full of love, and shi was obviously pregnant, judging from the bloated belly.
Just then, the human male started to sing, and the melody and the words made his heart ache and tears started to flow.
"If you feel the chill, I shall keep you warm.
If you feel alone, I shall hold you close.
If you feel the pain, I shall share it with you.
If you feel lost, I shall take you home.
For no-one is cold when 2 hearts are one.
For no-one is alone when 2 bodies are one.
For no-one is in pain when 2 souls are one.
For no-one is lost when 2 homes are one.
So, take my hand and walk with me.
Join with my soul for the life you need.
I shall be yours and you will be mine.
So feel my love, my joy and sorrow.
As I feel yours now and tomorrow."
"Where... where did you hear that? How do you know that song?" the fox asked, trying to compose himself.
"Yuki taught me, as I was recuperating in a cave in the Himalayas. Now, let me introduce myself, my name is Malcolm Kebler. I have come to find my daughter. I have travelled a long way to get here, and suffered much to be with my only flesh and blood. Do you know where shi is?" the human asked, leaning on the cane but resting a firm but loving hand on the old foxes shoulder.
The fox looked into the humans eyes, and he knew this day would come, but he hoped it wouldn't, not until he had passed on to be with his wife. Secrets, there was so many secrets that his adopted daughter didn't know about. Like hir father was human, and hir mom was victimized by humans, and after hir heartache and grief at hands of a human, how could he put hir through this. Shi is happy, living a wonderful life, with a new mate kits and grandkits, but how could he refuse the request of hir only true flesh and blood.
Letting out a deep sigh, he nodded his head and motioned for Malcolm to follow him.
"I'll tell you all you need to know, and it's a lot, some good, some bad, and some just down right insane. But first, I insist yo stay at my place until you're ready to leave." He said, walking slowly down the path towards his own PTV.
"By the way, my name is Phillip Clover." The fox smiled, shaking paw and hand with the human.
"Pleasure to meet you Phillip." Malcolm replied, then he and the fox got into the PTV and drove off to Phillips house.
As they left, the wind picked up and blew the rose off the grave stone, which bore the name
Francine Clover,
beloved wife to Phillip
and mother to Voxanna.
