Crimson Sands

Crimson Sands

As our boots fell heavy across crimson sands,

We marched with pride to protect our land.

Each drummer in rhythm would strike the snare,

Whether we lived or died none of us cared.

Time around me now deemed frozen,

The demon came forth calling "You are chosen!"

The silver moon made dead blood glisten,

"You are chosen!" again, I must not listen.

So I took up my sword, towards the demon

But he just chuckled "You are but a heathen!"

"Out of my way," I cried to the beast!

"On your mortal flesh I shall feast,"

"You stand strong and proud, feather in cap,

But I slaughtered the whore who sat in your lap!"

He must be lying, playing with my thoughts.

Yes I'll ignore him, begin the onslaught!

"The vile putrid wretch to whom you child was born,

As she choked on her blood your name she did scorn!"

"Enough now demon, I'll tear out your heart!"

Though truth be told, where would I start?

For the towering demon I am no threat,

Suddenly I feel the depths of regret.

I left her behind, without my protection.

My mind consumed by hell's infection,

"Come now weak mortal, follow me to hell

Or shall I just tear your soul from the shell?"

Every time I hear the demon groaning

I grind my teeth with utmost loathing.

"Or shall I call forth the corpse of your daughter

And relive it again, the blood drenching slaughter."

The sands grew quiet as I looked to his eyes

And the winds blew messages of my demise.

As my body got limp and fell to the sand,

I accepted my defeat to the demon's hand.

As my corpse lay rotting time still frozen,

"I told you poor mortal, that you are chosen."
