#5 of Machinations of a Trainer

Once more into the breach, dear friends.

I finally decided what I was going to do with this story: Tell a tale while showing the way I perceive the Pokemon world along with lots of hot sex.

Sound like fun?

GOOD!

Let's do this.

Oh, and I apologize for the lack of sex in this chapter, but I'm going to try posting weekly and see how that works.

=====================================

A chorus of wingull awoke me from a dreamless sleep to Fara's sleeping vulpine face. Her head was lying across my chest lazily as deep, airy breaths escaped from her nostrils. Her nine soft tails fanned over me, creating a blanket of warm, white fur.

I scratched gently behind the ears of my kitsune as I turned my head towards May's bunk. To my surprise, I saw her brown hair draped across the white fur of my absol as she used my Pokemon as a pillow. I couldn't believe they were getting along so well, considering yesterday Katherine was prepared to remove May's hand just for touching me.

I felt Fara's warm, fuzzy head lean into my palm. I looked down and saw her smiling, eyes closed and chin up as she enjoyed my ministrations, acknowledging her joy with a kicking back leg. I ceased scratching and got an eyeful of an open ninetails maw as she yawned, a heated breath escaping with a short whine. She seemed like an ordinary animal, but then her crimson eyes gazed into mine and filled my head with the images of our time together the night before.

She was far from ordinary.

"Good morning, Master," her cooing telepathic voice entered my mind, trailing with a hint of dawn fatigue.

I smiled and stroked her snout from nose to forehead with a finger. "Isn't it?"

Her body slowly shifted off of mine, the room's temperature cooling my legs quickly. I was surprised I didn't wake up sweating, but I suppose I had drained myself of any liquids I had left in me last night.

I threw my legs over the side of the bed, sitting up in a way to just miss hitting the top bunk. The sound of my feet, while faint, must have been enough to rouse my absol from her slumber. She yawned, stretching her paws forward and attempting to raise her rear. When she felt May's head resting comfortably on her body, she smiled.

"Morning, sleepy-head," said Katherine as she turned and smacked May on her forehead with a dull thwapping sound.

May yelped and shot upwards, hitting her head on the top bunk with another pained wince. She turned around on her knees and hunched her back towards Kat, who was grinning in pure merriment.

"What did you do that for," May asked angrily, rubbing her forehead.

When the absol laughed at her discomfort, I couldn't help but smile at the scene. I was glad things didn't change too drastically overnight.

I stood up from the bed and Fara hopped down with me, her tails brushing past my pants leg. I stretched, noticing the ninetails mimicking me by arching her back inwards. I smiled, but my stomach growled with hunger, "I'll go get us some breakfast and check on the rest of the gang."

May sighed, "Alright, I'll be getting dressed. Take this little demon with you."

Katherine was grinning wide as she trotted out the door with me, Fara trailing behind. I closed the door and stared at the happy absol. "I don't know what happened last night, but let's not try to kill May right now, alright? We've got a lot of ground to cover today."

"Yes, Master," she giggled. "I'll be a good girl."

I shook my head and ruffled her fur as we made our way down the stairs. We arrived on the main floor, the lobby of the Pokemon Center.

"Ah, young man," said the soothing voice of Nurse Joy. I turned to the counter to see her pink ponytails bouncing as she saw me coming down the stairs. "You and your friend's Pokemon are all fully recovered."

"Great," I said as I stepped forward to claim them. Joy handed me mine first, allowing me to hook them back onto my belt. Then she handed me May's, but there was something off.

There was an extra ball.

I presented the odd ball out, "Miss, are you sure that this one is May's?"

The nurse seemed curious, but tentatively took the ball from my hands and placed it in a nearby scanning machine. "Hold on a second... Yep, it checks out. This Pokemon is registered to May Birch."

She returned the ball and I looked it over. It seemed ordinary, but something was odd about it. I couldn't put my finger on it, but this ball wasn't normal.

I felt a gentle humming in the center of my head as Fara prodded my mind to see why I was stopped. I relaxed and heard an acknowledging sigh when the fox discovered my concerns. She then began conveying them to Kat in their own language.

Pocketing May's pokeballs, I began walking towards the center's cafeteria for some grub. Before I could put my hand on the door, however, I was stopped by the voice of a young man. "Excuse me, are you really Zachary Stone?"

I winced when I heard my last name. I try to keep that little bit of information secret. I looked behind me to see the source of the voice. He had shoulder-length light brown hair, glasses, and a striped t-shirt beneath a thick brown jacket with the "Pokemon Pharmaceuticals" logo emblazoned on the left chest. It seemed he was waiting for an answer.

"Who wants to know," was my rather cold reply. My followers turned and flanked my left and right, glaring at the newcomer.

"Ah, pardon the intrusion. My name is Alexander King. I'm an official Pokemon trainer and registered psychic."

Great, he's a psychic. A sponsored psychic. I don't know whether it's a mutation or evolution, but some humans had recently been born with or developed unusual psychic powers. Some read minds; others moved things without touching them.

And I didn't trust any of them.

"So that explains how you knew my name," I responded. "Isn't it illegal to go prying into unwitting people's thoughts?"

He made a small bow. "Again, I apologize. I felt a strong psychic presence coming from you and thought you were a psychic like me. I accidentally gleaned some information from you."

I realized that I may have seemed that way when I let Fara enter my mind. Usually I frustrate any psychic with my apparent natural resistance to their powers. I suppose I should be more careful about how wide I open the door to my thoughts.

Then he spoke up again, "I was wondering if we could battle."

I perked up. Not only do I have fun battling regardless of the opponent, but I particularly enjoy thrashing psychics. Katherine seemed particularly enthused, as her heavy tail slapped against the back of my leg repeatedly in anticipation.

"Alright, Alex, you have yourself a battle. Meet me just north of town at noon."

The psychic smiled, "Good! I've always wanted to battle a skilled opponent. Now, all we need is a judge to preside over the match."

I grinned, "I have a judge for a friend. We'll be there."

"Ah, of course," said Alex as he adjusted the frames on his glasses, "Zachary Stone would have friends in many high places. Very well, I'll be waiting outside town."

He turned around and walked out of the center, but not before looking back at me and saying, "Bring your "A" game, Mr. Stone."

As soon as he left, I wanted to punch him. As if I'd pass up a chance to pummel an arrogant head case like that. I'll be there.

"Let's get some breakfast to go, Kat," I told my absol companion, "You and I are gonna have some fun with this one. He wants our "A" game, but we're gonna give him the whole damn alphabet!"

I heard the absol giggle maniacally as Fara shook her head with a sigh, probably displeased with our rash behavior. She reminded me a little bit of May, without the pathetic, yet adorable weaknesses.

"Aw, don't be like that, Fara. This battle isn't just for me."

I grinned and reached into my backpack, pulling out a long, silk scarf. When I was out walking with May the night before, I bought this scarf from a portly vendor. He said it was a good luck charm for any normal type, but I had a different hunch. I've come across other "good luck charms" in the past, such as my black glasses and Manic's magnet, both turning out to be artifacts from a time where Pokemon battles were on a much larger scale. It was a time where more was at stake than ranking points.

The internet is a wondrous thing. I'm glad May turned me on to it.

*Now,* I thought as I glanced over the scarf, feeling its silken texture brushing across my fingertips, *Let's see if my gut is right about this one.*

* * *

"It's amazing how I can't leave you alone for ten minutes without you picking a fight, Zack," chimed May as we walked towards my next battlefield. It was almost midday, and the sun was beating down on our heads. I saw a rectangle of light on the path in front of me as the reflective panel on my cap defied the sun's rays, throwing them to the ground.

I scoffed at the young woman's accusation. "I didn't start this one, I'll have you know. This psychic comes out of no where and busts my chops, and you want me to take it lying down?"

"Not likely. Master isn't about to let some brainy bastard walk over him without due recourse," shouted Katherine, who was stepping by my side as usual, the silk scarf wrapped softly around her neck as it nearly swept the ground beneath her mane.

May shook her head and sighed. "I can't believe I'm being double-teamed by a boy and his bratty Pokemon."

Before we could interject, she added "Although... it was a bit rude of him to say those things. You got where you are by training harder than anyone else. You shouldn't be treated differently because of where you come from."

My absol cocked her head at the statement. "What's up with "Stone" anyway? It doesn't seem like a big deal that he knew your name."

I took a deep breath. I haven't told Katherine about my upbringing yet, but I figured it was time to give a quick introduction to the marvel that was my life. "Zachary Stone, son of the illustrious Devon Stone, founder of the prestigious Devon Corporation. Every sanctioned event I go to I get looked at like I'm the rich kid who's only in the league because my father's in the money."

Katherine remained silent and May bowed her head solemnly as she walked. She recognized it as a touchy subject. I didn't want to upset anyone, but I felt the story needed more information.

"Usually, professional trainers either have rich parents or good sponsors," I continued. "Technically, I have both, so long as I wear that stupid Devon Corp. jacket during televised events. However, I'd rather be known for my actions rather than my lineage, so I choose to reject his charity and instead earn my commission through my own power."

"I see..." breathed Kat as she continued walking. I had a feeling I might have made her feel uncomfortable, so I quickly added a positive spin.

"So that's why we have to fight our hardest. I'm not going to run home with my tail between my legs just because they said I couldn't cut it outside Devon's walls. I'm going to prove them wrong, but I'm going to need all of you to help me get to the championship." I looked down at Katherine and saw her nodding her head. Now for the finisher:

"So, let's win this one, and bring our rank one step closer to the top! The higher we are the better chance we'll get to be invited to the Master's tournament. After that, it's just a hop, skip, and jump to glory!"

Kat almost jumped as high as my hip as she exclaimed "Hell yeah!" It seemed the little speech about my history did more than inform, for Katherine seemed more revved up to win now that I've explained my reasons. May smiled, seeming pleased at how I managed to lighten the mood.

Now all that's left is to unleash this energy on a psychic who's just begging for it.

* * *

I stood facing my opponent across a clean, grassy field near the entrance to the cycling road. A small contingent of onlookers watched from both the road above us and the grass around us. Alexander King readjusted his glasses, as he was apparently fond of doing.

"I'm surprised you're not late, Mr. Stone, though I see you had enough time to pick up a girl before your match."

Jerk. Before I could retort, May piped in.

"My name is May Birch. I'm a level one judge, which means I'm qualified to preside over official field battles." She shoved her judge ID card in Alex's face, which caused him to lean backwards in order to avoid being smacked in the face with it. "Now, seeing as how this is a rank battle, I'll need your trainer card."

Alex nodded and handed over his card, more than a bit intimidated it would seem. She walked over to me and I couldn't help but smile. "Tear him up, Zack," she whispered as I handed her my card. And I planned on it.

May made her way back to the side of the ring, glaring at Alex one more time before placing the cards in a League-issued reader to make sure they're legit.

Wow, May gets bold when she's angry. I'd hate to be on her bad side.

Katherine also seemed a bit surprised. "Huh, she got confident real quick." I didn't think it was a good idea for her to speak so openly with so many people watching, so I nudged her with my leg to bring her down to a whisper.

"Alright," Kat said, now in a hushed voice, "But I reserve the right to gloat in this guy's face once I mop the field with his Pokemon."

I nodded, and May began explaining the rules with the authority her position requires.

"This battle will be an official single Pokemon knockout match between Zachary Stone and Alexander King. The victor of this battle will receive rank points."

Ah, rank points. The more you have, the better your sponsorship deals pay, and the better chance you have of getting chosen for the championship tournament, provided you have at least eight badges.

"Trainers, call out the Pokemon you will be using in this battle," The professor's daughter shouted.

"Absol, let's win this one," I called Kat to step forward. In order to avoid confusion, nicknames shouldn't be used during official matches. It may sound like a dumb rule, but you wouldn't believe the amount of people who got confused when their opponents started naming their all their Pokemon Mew.

"A dark type," scoffed the arrogant psychic, reaching for a pokeball secured on his trainer belt. "That seems predictable enough. Alakazam, let's show them our power!"

As the powerful psychic type materialized before me, I couldn't help but think *Now who's predictable?*

But then I quickly reconsidered. There is no way someone who seems this smart would make a rookie move like using a psychic against a dark unless that Alakazam has a trump card. I'll have to keep on my toes.

"Are the trainers ready," asked May. I and Alex shouted our practiced "Ready," Katherine letting out a short siren-like cry as Alakazam closed his eyes in a slow, solemn nod.

"Alright," began May, raising both of her arms. "Then on the count of three.

"One!"

Katherine braced herself, the scarf she wore swaying softly in the gentle breeze. The calm before the storm, it would seem.

"Two!"

I flexed my fingers, a habit I have when I'm anxious. It makes me feel as though I could grow claws and fight alongside my Pokemon.

That feeling was how I knew...

"Three! Begin the match!"

This was gonna be wild.

=======================

Action to come! Sorry for not living up to the promise of mucho sex in this chapter, but I figure that I could split up one really long story to ensure that I can post regularly for a while! A story a week is my dream, but every two might be the settling point. A month would be more realistic, to be honest, but I hate making people wait that long. It tears me up inside.

Forgive me? ._.

Also, before you think the whole psychic thing is overblown, I like to think it's a pretty solid way of including the psychics from the games. You can bet there will also be ninja. Why? Ninja freaking rule, that's why. I just need to find a way to put them in without seeming like a fool.

Thank you for playing,

Matt, the Z-Byte
