#3 of Chronicles of the Justicar II: The LAst Stand

[Planet; Hibbnal II. Perimeter of the Ziggurat. Year 3,568 AD, November 24th, 3:00 AM]

A lizard man warrior stood guard at the most holy of places to his people; a large stone temple towered behind him with many carved statues of the greatest warriors to his kind ranging from warriors like himself to reclusive magi to some of the flying kin as well. The warm bloods have been laying waste to the entire mountain side and have been making progress towards this very site and he was going to defend the holy temple with his life for his mate and hatchlings. He gripped his well crafted spear tightly looking around from the base of the temple with other guards as well keeping their view on the surrounding woods, although the blue and white armour of the warm bloods were easy to spot along with their war machines he still kept his mind focused and sharp.

A sentry stood preached on top of the nearest stone statue, he smelled no warm blood in the area so the guard took the time to relieve himself on a nearby tree. The bushes near him shuffled a bit but he dismissed it of any danger as it was most likely was just a wilder beast looking for berries. Right when he was about to do his business an arm shot up from the foliage and dragged him into it, he fell on his back and saw a pitch black helmet with no visible view ports, his attacker also wore trophies around his body all types of bones from skulls on his shoulder pads to little finger bones outlining his gauntlets. The Vanquisher took out a knife from his right thigh and brought it down into the soft neck area of the guard, his runic defences failed and his last thoughts were of his family.

"Excellent work on progress this far corporal." High General Bismarck congratulated over the Vanquisher's secured communication channel. "The draconians as they call themselves have one of their leaders held up in this structure ahead. I believe this alien will have the information on their strength of numbers and their leadership. I want this alien alive, Corporal." Said Bismarck confidently

The Vanquisher didn't answer but Bismarck knew he heard and understood his orders. When Bismarck's communication display went away the Vanquisher began to work on his primary objective behind enemy lines. He watched from the shadows in the forest of a draconian sentry trying to locate where the guard had gone off too, the alien wore the standard bronze armour with the runic symbols covering it with his only weapon being a wooden cross bow and a hunting knife attached to his thigh. The Vanquisher loaded one of his own throwing knives into a small hole that was on his left wrist guard and when the sentry finally spotted the red and black armoured human he fired the small ejector his knife was put into launching the blade straight through the air into the forehead of the lizard man. The magic barrier around him failed instantly as the blade penetrated the weak metal plating allowing the knife to sail through his head without stopping then impale itself upon the wall behind him.

The sentry fell off the stone statue as his body hit almost every ledge and crevice on the way down until it fell in crumpled mass of gore with his face in the ground. The other guards and sentries shrieked in horror and looked around for their attacker when suddenly the Vanquisher rocketed from his hiding spot, his jet pack took him straight into a draconian guard knocking the armoured lizard warrior to the ground and without pause the human quickly pulled a knife from his chest area and stuck the blade right into the skull of his victim. The sound of cracking bone made the Vanquisher take pleasure in anther clean kill he would have to remind him self to carve anther notch in his armour for this kill.

A draconian guard charged him with his poleaxe ready but as the green scaled warrior thrust his weapon forward the Vanquisher snatched it away instantly with one tug where the blade met the handle disarming the alien. With his free hand he passed over the glowing blue device on his opposite wrist causing a digital outline of his pistol to form onto his open palm and after downloading his weapon became solid. The corporal fired a high powered round from his handgun into his attacker, the lizard warrior's head exploded as his runes and armour did nothing to stop the projectile. The Vanquisher shoved the headless corpse away to find one of the guards was fleeing up the stairs to warn her kin inside but her retreat was cut short when the trophy covered human threw the poleaxe he still carried into the draconian's back. The humanoid reptile cried out in pain as the Vanquisher took his time walking up the steps to the very extravagant temple as he put notches into his armour for his recent kills with the bloody knife. He watched as his wounded target painfully tried to crawl up the stairs on his stomach leaving a trail of red blood but the silent killer stepped on his exposed green scaled tail stopping his pathetic attempt to escape, the Vanquisher armed his pistol as lights lit up the side of it until he aimed it down and put the draconian out of her misery.

[The Shadow Core; Dark Spire, Grand Hall. Year 3,568 AD, November 24th, 3:25 AM]

Large black and purple banner hung from the different levels of the massive building's main chamber, with void soldiers, blade dancers and many cultists all went about their daily business and chores but most of them stopped to watch their leaders on the lowest floor of the high ceiling room.

"And finally this is our Shadow master, Malero Alterus." Said Vurdamis with respect

Baphomet was greeted by a rather tall lizard man; he wore a blood stained lab coat that was a few sizes to small for his body, parts of his scales were stretched or shortened with crude instruments holding his surgery in place for a later time to work on. A large red monocle was on his left eye , his two wings where jetting from his backside with the mesh in-between the cartilage was torn and scarred no doubt from his own experiments on himself.

"So much I heard about you I did, I did!" Malero stated "When I heard that the Grandfather allowed an organic with much power as you I was excited, most excited!"

"Malero here oversees the production of all void constructs and drone suits." Vurdamis said when the half bred draconian cut him off

"And I am very good at it I do say so, but I have to ask Baphomet can you tell Xoro'tanth to send me the plans back to the super void soldiers? I cannot recall which formula to u-

"Xoro'tanth is dead." Baphomet interrupted.

"Oh my, so I guess I won't get the formula back will I?" the Shadow master asked not bothered that his student was dead.

"No." She answered back before spitting out anther hunk of her body mass to keep her throat from clogging.

"Most dreadful, most differently dreadful..." Malero whispered to himself before he walked back to his work bench with countless vials and jars containing unknown liquids.

The armoured commander grabbed Baphomet by the shoulder, a thin layer of permafrost formed on her grey melting skin. "Now Baphomet, for the reason I bothered to rescue you from your imprisonment."

Arjun darted ahead of Liken when he found a working computer terminal inside the damaged control room as the valgary looked around for any hidden hostiles.

"If I remember anything from darkspawn tech that my suit deciphered for me, I should be able to rig a large signal into space, big enough for a VALOR fleet to warrant an investigation." Arjun said with hope as he began using the touch interface on the screen

Liken walked up behind the brown skinned human as he was using his limited computer skills to solve their problem to see if she knew anything but it was gibberish to her too as she knew the language but not the technical part. She went back on all fours and went to look for enemies as she was the only one strong enough currently to fend off a void soldier. Arjun turned his head to watch Liken as she was clearly trying to keep her mind busy from thinking about what was happening and he couldn't blame her, he wanted to leave too. After several minutes of discretely watching her pace about the computer room he took a large breath as his mother has always taught him to be a friend when someone needed help, he guessed that applied to aliens as well.

"Hey." Arjun said casually. "Scale face, you ok?" he asked half caring

The valgary nodded in silence but this wasn't the response Arjun wanted so he took his hands off the screen and folded his arms while he turned to see her. Although he just wanted to get into his Justicar power armour, hold her down so she laid flat on her chest and rip her tail off with his own hands but every time he glanced over at her his own anger against her was diluted by him remembering that she faced much more demanding hardships than his arm or pride. He did not want to admit it but he felt sorry for her which caused him to swear as he rather would be angry at her but his own self righteousness became general concern for her well being.

"Look I'm not trying to get a fucking speech out of you, are you wounded?"

Liken tilted her head back to see him leaning against the computer terminal. "Should you not be getting us out?" she said trying her best to speak English.

Arjun turned back to the computer monitor to continue working on sending out the high powered signal when he heard Liken's voice again.

"Thanks." She answered with a whisper.

Arjun smiled as he got the response he wanted with the terminal screen reflecting his face as well which caught Liken's attention causing her to give a little smirk as well before going back on patrol.

[Planet, Hibbnal, Ziggurat, inner garden. Year 3,568 AD, November 24th, 4:00 AM]

The Vanquisher tossed the lifeless lizard warrior to the ground dispatching the last of the draconian noble's guards. The temple grounds were littered in bodies from the corporal killing every draconian warrior that tried to hinder his mission. The nobleman did not wear any armour or clothes as his scales covered anything that would be embarrassing but he did wear very elaborate jewellery ranging from gold necklaces around his neck, silver rings around his horns that curved backwards and around his ankles as well.

"You dare defile this holy place with your scent, warm blood?" The lizard man spoke, the slits in his eye focused on the alien

The Vanquisher didn't answer with words, he instead he pushed a button on his glowing wrist pad to signify that the target was secured.

"I know why you came here, warm blood. But I am not the one you seek." The human looked up as the draconian caught his attention. "You want her..." The nobleman spoke as he pointed upwards

The roof of the temple was ripped open revealing a massive armoured dragon that too was also covered in expensive jewellery that showed off her status in their society. The dragon matriarch roared in anger as it would have to destroy its own temple to eliminate the lone warm blood. The lizard man noble laughed at the Vanquisher's misfortune until the human shot the draconian in the head without looking as he was no longer important to his mission.

The dragon matriarch prepared to engulf the human in flames as her maw began to intensify with heat for the attack. The Vanquisher took the moment of opportunity to blast into the open sky and latch onto the matriarch's neck and with all his might he tilt the massive beast's neck backwards allowing her breath of fire to shoot into the early morning sky in a mushroom cloud like fashion. With the use of his jet pack once more he backed away from the dragon then began flying in irregular patterns now having his advance hand guns in both hands firing at the winged reptile to try and break her runic barrier.

The dragon retaliated by launching much smaller and quicker fireballs to knock the Vanquisher out of the air. One after the other the fast human avoided the some what slow projectiles always at the last possible moment before his jetpack took him in any direction with burst of energy quickly sending him to that location. In anger the dragon swooped closer to the Vanquisher and snatched him out of the sky with her claws so he would remain still as she prepared to bathe him in fire.

The Vanquisher carefully primed a yellow striped grenade on his belt and in a few seconds a massive blue shockwave caused by the grenade's explosion pushed away the matriarch who became stunned from such proximity to the concussion grenade. The corporal's jetpack came to a stop and he landed on the tallest stone statue he could find. The Vanquisher started to push buttons on his left handgun causing it to expand and grow as a digital outline highlighted the areas being enhanced and while his left handgun was downloading the rest of its modifications he placed his other one in front it so the two weapons would combine into one. When the dragon started to get her bearings back the red and black armoured human kneeled on one leg as lights began turning on with all of them heading to the end of the newly constructed rifle's barrel.

"Divert all auxiliary power to main gun." Ordered the Vanquisher to his suit's A.I

He pulled the trigger. The sound barrier broke as the rail shot screamed through the air in a flash before an explosion occurred as it hit the matriarch's runic barrier. The blur from the impact lasted what seemed like hours until finally died down to show that not only did it penetrate the shielding in one hit but also incapacitated the dragon as the round went clean through her chest. The winged beast dropped out of the sky like a rock as the Vanquisher updated Bismarck that his troops will need something a little bigger than an armoured personal carrier to transport this prisoner.
