“You are my wife,” he tells her one night, “and together, we shall make an heir worthy of continuing my legacy.”

“Gar,” she says to him, nuzzling under his chin. “I want to be free. I can’t stand being a pet. Please, let me go explore. Let me go be a real dragon.”

“But, my dear,” he says, his claws grazing over her scales. “You already are a real dragon, the most beautiful dragoness I have ever seen. Now then, I have another round for you,” and with that, he mounts her without further word. If she were to actually file a complaint, he would never hear it. So, while her mouth and body betray her, revealing the moans that mix with his, she plots her escape.

Again, the warm seed fills her, and again the dragon male flops down. But she has become strong in this time with him and nudges the unconscious body off of her, letting him roll onto his coins with a satisfied smirk on his face.

Sylvari takes one of the money pouches that are among his horde, just enough to get her out of a bind and tiptoes out from the cave. The cool night air feels so good upon her scales, and she spreads her wings, taking a deep breath before she lifts off into the air.

Like her first time in flight, Sylvari spins and twirls in the air as she escapes the cave of her confinement. She is a dragon now, a free spirit, and nothing will ever slow her down, not again.

The next morning, the dragoness sits amidst the mountainside forest, groaning as she clutches at her stomach. All those aerial tricks were easy enough to pull off before. Why had they made her sick now? As if it would help her, she rubs her tummy to try and ease the pain, only to stop at a bump she notices on her lower body. She ponders for a moment what could be happening when she gasps and rolls onto all fours once more. How many times had Teragargax come inside of her? How many times did he say that the two of them would produce an heir? Sylvaria shudders at the thought that within her body, another life is growing. How will she handle such a thing? She doesn’t know the first thing about being the mother of a dragon, nor does she know how to care for a dragon’s egg. Even if she lays it, it would be left to the elements, alone. That thought makes her shudder and whimper.

Can she just leave this life within her to die, even though she never wanted it in the first place? She sits there, frowning as she strokes along her belly. Not until today did the full extent of being a female dragon hit her. Is this the mother’s instinct she heard about in passing in her days as a man? She sighs and spreads her wings, making sure she has a running start. Even if Teragargax is likely to spot her, she needs to find someone who could help her with her current issue. Perhaps she can find another dragon or some other experienced midwife or-? She stops and looks over her shoulder, down towards the old village. She had a friend who trained in such matters. Could she ask her to do it? It’s either that or go back to Teragargax. Is he really that bad? Maybe she could -no. He tricked her into a relationship. No matter how hot he is, she’ll never forget that fact. Now, she needs to be on her own, away from him, and where she can be a dragon without being under his foot.

So, Sylvari flies high into the air, her shadow casting over the countryside as she heads back to the town that had once been her home. The majestic and terrifying sight of the dragon flying overhead makes the townspeople stop everything and gawk at the sight. Would-be heroes bring up arms, and some even fire at her, but she dodges with nimble flight before landing in the square, standing tall and proud amidst them.

With a voice she deepens to sound more authoritative, she calls out. “Humans. I am Sylvari, and I am a mighty dragon. Hear me. I seek the aid of one of your own, and I offer you a portion of my treasure if that individual comes to my aid.”

“I’ll aid you!” says one of the archers. “My bow is true!”

She shakes her head. “I am in need of another service. Where is the young maiden, Cassia?”

Murmurs fill the town, and soon the people erupt into angered shouts.

“You won’t kidnap a maiden of ours.

“We’ll sooner die than let a dragon boss us around.”

“Who died and made you king?”

Sylvari growls and tilts her head back, letting out a large blast of flame that fills the sky all around the town. This silences them all. “The girl. Bring her to me.”

Cassia looks so much smaller from up on high, but she still holds herself with the strong and confident demeanor that she always have. Sylvari can’t help but smile upon seeing her and lowers her head to get to eye-level with the midwife-in-training. “There you are,” the dragon says, relief evident in her voice. “I need your help.”

“And why should I be helping a dragon?” Cassia says, her hands upon her hips. “What gives you the right to come here, barking orders and calling me from my duty?”

The other townsfolk all take steps back away from the midwife, unsure how the dragon would react to this brash attitude.

Sylvari herself doesn’t quite know. She is a dragon now, and she needs to maintain that air of superiority that flows through her. But, it isn’t just airs, it is true. She is the superior being here. “I have no time to discuss this with you now. We must hurry!” A tingling in her scales tells her that this is so. “I will compensate you for your time. Just… come with me, and I shall return you. It should be an honor to work for a dragon. After all, don’t you have to pay for your dear mother?”
