In Serpent's Embrace

Chapter 1: Intro

For a long time, the human race wondered if they were alone. They wondered if there was anyone else out there in the great beyond. After the formation Terran Federal Republic, humans began to expand into space. The already existing colonies on the Moon and Mars, became stepping stones to colonizing the moons of the other planets in the solar system. Humans then sent colony ships out in many durections to neighboring systems. That's when things got interesting.

5 years after the first colonial vessels were sent out, they made contact. The Multispawn, as they called themselves, opened fire on a colony ship, The Brave, a wiped out everyone on board. They were only able to send a single message to Earth, "They're coming!" Within a year, the Multispawn attack and destroyed colonies on Pluto to Uranus. Over 300 million lives lost, few survivors. At the Battle of Titan, another alien race appeared, the Heliokin. They attacked the Multispawn fleet and defended the refugee ships. They would later appear in Earth's orbit, prepared to sign a treaty for an alliance with the President of the Republic. With the signing of the treaty, the human race entered the Independent Republics of the Stars (IRS), which aided and protected each other for the greater good. Within 2 years, the Multispawn was driven from the Terran worlds. Humans quickly took the opportunity to reinforce Earth and its other colonies, as well as quickly adopt their new allies technology. Taking the fight to the Multispawn and forcing them to sign a treaty in orbit of their own home world.

They Earth and her colonies soon entered a golden age. They advanced faster then they ever had before and eventually taking over a dozen worlds. Within 2 centuries, the Earth and its inhabitants, have become a Galactic Power...

"MR.THOMPSON, are you listening!" came the stern voice of the instructor, snapping Jacob Thompson out of his daydream. He looked around his class seeing that the instructor and several students were looking at him. He wanted to shrink down into his seat and hid from everyone.

"Sorry sir," came Jacob's response to the instructor. The instructor just looked down and shook his head, walked over to his desk, opened a drore, and pulled out a pink slip. He wrote down something on it, walked over to Jacob and placed it on his desk. Jacob knew what it was, a detention slip, oh joy, thought Jacob, another reason for mom to beat me. He sighed and looked down, slipping the piece of paper into his pocket. While the instructor went on telling the class of the History of the Republic.

Jacob Thompson, age 16, son of Katherine Raymond Thompson and Ronald Thompson. Both are wealthy and influential in their respected occupations. An A, B student, but doesn't pay much attention in class, a daydreamer. The reason to him getting in trouble so much. He is 5'11", thin but not skinny. His hair is short, brown, and soft to the touch. He has soft features that he got from his mom, and has the deep blue eyes of his dad that his mom hates so much.

After class, Jacob rushed to get out of the room and to his next class; he was scared of what waited for him in the halls of his high school. But he wasn't so lucky; standing in his way was Jeremy Mcdougal, the big cheese in the high school student hierarchy. As well as Jacob's personal tormentor and people like him.

"Hey prick, what's up?" Jeremy said as a smile spread across his face, "heard you got in trouble again."

"Can't this wait for another day Jeremy?" Jacob pleaded while he looked down at his feet.

Jeremy's smile grew wider, "now Jackie Boy, if I go easy on you, then that means that everyone will want me to go easy on them, wouldn't it?" He draped his arm over Jacob's shoulders and steered him toward the bathroom. "So Jackie Boy, which will it be, head gut or groin?"

Jacob sighed and said, "gut." If it could, Jeremy's smile would have widened even more. When they were in the bathroom, Jeremy made sure that no one was in sight or sound. He then pulled back his arm, and hit Jacob in the stomach as hard as he could. Jacob's eyes bugged out and he doubled over in pain.

"Pleasure doing business with you," Jeremy said and swaggered out of the bathroom. Leaving Jacob on the floor suffering. Jeremy knew he was going to be late for class, earning him another detention and another beating from his mom.

Its been like this since his dad left, leaving them for another women that he had already started another family with. It started with his mom drinking a few here and there, then it built up to a words, then for the past 3 years its been beatings. For 3 years, she found a way to hide the beatings and drinking from the world. So as not to tarnish the their family name. She would always find a reason to beat him, not getting a good grade, his bedroom isn't clean enough, detentions, or for just looking at her wrong. He is covered in bruises, and he's to afraid to do anything, to ashamed to speak to anyone.

Then 2 years ago, Jeremy Mcdougal came to town, and quickly came to power. Everyone like him, everyone wanted to be his friend. He was tall, muscular, athletic, and charismatic. He could talk a nun into bed. He had these brown eyes that stared into your soul, and his muscles bulged under his shirt. And that's what caused Jacob problems. One day Jacob was staring at Jeremy for some reason beyond him and was caught. He tried to play it off, but Jeremy cornered him and beat him. He was able to talk his way out of it and made Jacob sound like it was his fault. That earned him another beating from his mom.

Even though he is tormented and tortured, he did have one spark of light. Elizabeth Ranard, the most beautiful girl in school, long blond hair, light blue eyes, perfect body, and a voice of an angel. She was kind and gentle to everyone, including him. Jacob has had a crush on her for years, but has never worked up the nerve or self-esteem to ask her out. So he lost her to, whom else, Jeremy Mcdougal.

Beside another detention, the rest of the day was uneventful. When the final bell rung, he made his way to the dorm rooms. His only refuge in the world at Ferdinand High School, students would stay in the dorms for the weekdays and stay with their families on weekends and holidays. The school weekdays in his dorm after school were always his escape time, to study, to heal, and to fantasize.

He laid down on his bed, feeling the ache in his stomach from Jeremy's punch. He felt so tired and he hastily drifted off to sleep.
