The alarm of his phone caused Travis to wearily lift from the bed. He felt like he hardly slept at all. Checking his phone and seeing that it was 8:00 AM he sighed to himself. His first class wasn't for another three and a half hours, but he wanted to be up early so he could bring his things in from the moving truck.

It's gonna be nice to put some good padding on the bed , Travis thought to himself, stretching. He got up and hopped off the bed. In the moment of looking around the empty room it hit him that he was all alone. He was at college in Zootopia and his parents and his best friend were all miles away in Bunnyburrow. As soon as they came, Travis pushed those thoughts from his head. The first day wasn't the best day to have an existential crisis. There was nothing he could do now but put some clothes on and find the campus' dining hall.

He found the breakfast food in the dining hall decent at best. The fruits he had weren't nearly as good as the fruit he ate back home. He had to admit that there was something to be grown, it was gonna be grown best in Bunnyburrow. Now it was 9:15. The tracking ID on his phone gave him an estimate of a 10 AM delivery window. He had essentially 45 minutes to kill. He figured something he could do to kill time was unpack the few suitcases and other things he could carry on him. He could put his clothes into the wardrobe that was closest to his side. It took longer than he thought it would but he managed to empty his stuff into their proper places. That left him with 5 extra minutes.

Seeing that his side of the dorm was looking slightly more homey, Travis looked to the completely barren other side of the dorm, wondering where in the world his dorm mate was. He could think about that later, his stuff could be coming in any moment now. The ferret left his room and took the elevator back down to the main floor. Sure enough as soon as he walked out of the front door, the truck pulled up.

Two zebras stepped out of the truck. One of them faced him, "You Travis?"

"Uh, yeah. I am," Travis nodded, walking up to the driver zebra and showing him the tracking ID on his phone for added proof. The zebra leaned down to look at the short ferret's phone, skimmed it over and nodded. "Alright, we'll get this stuff out of here in no time."

Travis nodded and inwardly sighed in relief; he didn't put too many things in the back of the truck, but the things he did bring would take him way too long to bring in himself. He was glad that he had at least the help of the zebras.

Just as they said, within about 30 minutes the things Travis brought from home were now in his dorm room. The zebras along with a few staff members were very careful with bringing his things to the third floor and even his room. He even gave them a tip afterwards, thanking them repeatedly. His phone buzzed, alerting him that it was 11:00 AM. He had to get to his first class, environmental science. He had to ask around about where the science hall was. Luckily, a badger pointed him into the right direction and he made it to class just fine.

"Since this is the first day, I want you to review the syllabus and familiarize yourself with the upcoming projects and dates," the professor of the class spoke.

"Hey, hey buddy," a voice behind Travis hissed, the ferret turned around to see a brown weasel wearing blue jeans and a green letterman jacket. "You got a pencil I can borrow?"

"Uh, sure," Travis nodded, handing the weasel the extra pencil he had on him.

"Thanks, pal. You're a real lifesaver," the weasel thinks. "The teach looks like a real square doesn't he?"

The professor in question was a male lynx who wore thick glasses and a tightly knotted tie. Even the way he spoke sounded a bit dull and slow to Travis.

"Heh, yeah," Travis chuckled. The weasel gave him a thumbs up and returned to the lecture.

After the class was over, as Travis was heading back, he thought about that weasel again. He never got his pencil back, but he didn't mind. Travis was more focused on the joke he made. He hoped the next time he went back to the class he would run into him again.

He returned to his dorm and slid his card into the slot to open it. Travis sighed and looked up, flinching upon seeing someone else in the dorm with him. .

"Hmm? Oh. It's you?" The weasel that Travis was just thinking about was right in front of him, in his dorm. He took a look around said dorm to see that now there were even more things on the floor of the room.

"Y-yeah," Travis answered shakily. "Uh, what are you doing here?"

"What are you talking about? This is my dorm," the weasel answered.

"Mine too," Travis nodded.

"Wait, for real? You?" the weasel pointed at him and stepped closer.

Travis nodded again. "Well, that explains all this stuff lying around," the weasel thought aloud.

"Oh, I'll get all this stuff put up," Travis assured.

"Don't worry too much about it, uh..." the weasel drew out.

"Travis," the ferret eagerly put in. "Travis Blackfoot."

"....Travis," the weasel finished. "As for me, the name's Duke. Duke Weaselton."

"Guess we're roommates now," Travis said. He was honestly glad. From what he saw so far Duke seemed to be a good guy and they were about the same size so he didn't have to worry about being stepped on by someone bigger than him.

"I think we should clean this place up," Duke suggested. Travis nodded and the two of them put their respective things away.

Travis woke up to his alarm, pressed it off and sprung from his bed. Today was the day that he was going to see Duke again. As his feet touched the ground it hit him that, sure he saw Duke at the Z.P.D, but he hadn't actually talked to him in almost 3 years. Travis decided that it was best for him not to dwell on it, everything will be fine.

Duke woke up in the abandoned building, yawning and stretching. He loved the smell of old wood and dust in the morning. He tugged away the thin and patchy blanket that he wrapped himself in. He got up from the old couch and stretched once again. "Oh boy, Duke. Ya in for it today," he groaned to himself. He was still thinking of the call he got from Travis. The noodle actually wanted to see him again? He was just talking up a big game when he saw him at the Z.P.D.

But the thought of seeing Travis did stir familiar feelings within himself. There was no way he wasn't gonna go, he needed to know how he was now. He hoped that things had been better for the ferret than things have been for him. Duke thought that maybe Travis went back to school and finished that degree of his.

As for Duke himself, he took a good look around the worn down and cobweb-ridden living room and winced a bit at the idea of Travis being in the same condition as him. Not only that but it hit him that he has to see Travis again, in person. There were so many things he should do. Maybe if he was lucky on his way to raid the dumpster behind the buffet place around the corner, he could find a quarter or something. He could use that to get his tank top and shorts washed at the naturalist club. There he could hang around without worrying about being naked and maybe clean a bit in one of the fountains. He knew a couple of the regulars there and they really helped him out when he was in a pinch in many different ways.

Duke realized that while he was standing there, thinking of some elaborate plan the day itself was burning away. He had to actually put that stuff into action before it was too late. Rushing to the hole in the back of the house, he peeked around the dirty alleyway, making sure no one saw him. He left the house and went off to find breakfast.

It was mid afternoon when Travis came out of the bathroom, fresh from the shower. He took a deep breath to get a grip. Even though it wasn't for a few more hours, the fact that he was going to be seeing Duke again with his eyes made his heart pound and made his breathing uneasy. He stepped into his living room and looked around it. To him it looked very plain all of a sudden, too ordinary. Nothing impressive. Travis clicked his teeth and assured himself that he was being ridiculous. All he was going to do was see him and talk. That's all. Nothing else.

He jumped at the sudden knock on the front door. "Uh, coming!" he called. Opening the door he was greeted by his best friend. "Hey, Gid. What are you doing here?"

"Ah, I was awful bored back home. Judy's off on another emergency," Gideon explained, rolling his eyes and stepping into the living room. He plopped on the couch and stretched. "And I was wonderin' if ya had time to just...pal around?"

"Yeah, sure," Travis nodded, sitting down next to the fox. "I got a bunch of time." Travis looked at his best friend and felt something was a bit off.

"Uh, Gid? You alright?" Travis asked.

"Huh?" Gideon blinked and turned to the ferret. "Oh, sorry buddy. I'm just distracted is all." He sighed and continued. "You know how it is when it's been awhile since ya.....ya know." the fox groaned, shuffling his feet awkwardly.

Travis cleared his throat and nodded. He scooted a bit closer to Gideon and looked him in the eyes. "Is that what you came here for? Cause...I think it might just be what I need."

"Something goin' on?" Gideon asked with genuine concern that made the ferret's ears wiggle.

"Well, I'm seeing an old friend and my nerves are super high," Travis admitted, giving a chuckle.

"Hmmm, I get it. You're always worryin'. It's cute," Gideon grinned, wrapping his arm around the smaller mammal. Travis let out a squeak and collected himself, getting a laugh from Gideon.

"You're cute," Travis replied teasingly, placing his paw on Gideon's inner thigh. "Hey, does Judy know you're doing this?"

"Heh. You'd be surprised at the things she gets up to when I'm not around," Gideon snickered. "Don't worry about it. We're in an open relationship."

Travis took a deep breath and took his friend's word for it, not that he really cared that much. He needed Gideon just as much Gideon needed him. He could feel the result of his stimulation under his paw and the soft grunts of the pent fox. Travis reached up, placing a paw on the side of Gideon's muzzle. Gideon leaned down and the two met in a passionate kiss.

Travis instantly felt his stress and tension melting away. It was just like he and Gideon had done countless times before. They were always there for one another in any way they could be.

Travis let Gideon take control, laying back on the couch. He felt the larger mammal's paws gently wrap around him and hold him down. He trusted Gideon to be gentle with him, but he also knew that Gideon would give him what he needed to take all the stress away. With the sounds they both made, the closer they got, the pleasure they both felt. Both were there to feel good in a sense or another.

An hour later the two lay on the couch, holding onto each other.

"You're the best, Trav," Gideon praised.

"You weren't bad yourself," Travis giggled. "This was great, but now I'll have to take another shower."

"Same here, you know what that means," Gideon smirked, raising a brow.

"Seriously, Gid?" Travis grinned, but Gideon was already picking him up and heading for the shower. Soon the two were close once again washing one another. Gideon stepped out of the shower first, leaving Travis to properly clean up from the day's earlier event. Once the ferret was done he stepped into the living room to see the fox putting his clothes back on.

Travis checked the time and realized he only had about an hour. "Guess I should get ready," Travis said nervously.

Gideon noticed this and approached his friend, placing his paws on the ferret's shoulders. "Don't freak out. You're just meeting an old friend, that's all. You got this, little buddy."

"Thanks, Gid," Traivs took a deep breath. Gideon ruffled the fur on Travis' head, causing both of them to laugh.

"I think I should get out of here," Gideon suggested. "Good luck out there." Travis watched as Gideon left and returned to getting ready for seeing Duke again. He groaned to himself as he felt his heart pound once again. Why was he still feeling like this? He was just going to talk. Right? Taking what had to be his 500th deep breath that day he bit the bullet and stepped out the door.

Travis hopped on his bike and began to pedal towards the train station. The whole way there he was thinking of what he should say to the weasel after all these years. Should he mention the whole ZPD thing? Probably not, who would want to talk about something like that?

Duke was putting his tank top back on. He managed to get clean enough from the naturalists and got his clothes washed. With a groan and stretch he took his first steps out of the club and began his walk towards the train station. The weasel clicked his teeth and tried to figure out what he was going to say to the ferret.

Maybe I should try to sell him something? No, no. That won't work at all. I gotta just talk to him, he thought annoyed with himself.

Duke decided that he would start the conversation simple. And maybe sneak a way to sell him something later on. He was enjoying the walk to the train station as it had been a while since he could walk the streets as a free weasel. Before even if he was out of jail, he was prone to having warrants on him. He would have to duck from whoever looked like a cop to him.

Travis made it to the station and locked his bike to the rack. He sat on a nearby bench and figured it was the best and only thing he could do. The ferret sat back and looked up at the early-evening sky, the clouds were fluffy white with pink highlights. While cloud-watching Travis finally got an idea of what he was going to say to the weasel when he saw him again. His heart began to pound once more, but not in any kind of fear. Travis was truly excited to see Duke again. He wants to see him and hear from him whether it'll be good or bad. After the way the two of them left off all those years ago, he just wanted to hear from the weasel.

"What are you looking at?" Travis nearly jumped out of his fur, but looked over to see the weasel he was waiting for. Travis stood up from the bench and faced Duke with a gentle smile.

"Hey. It's been a while, huh?" Travis asked.

"Yeah, yeah. It has," Duke nodded. "It's pretty good to see ya, Blackfoot. Truth is I thought you would have moved to some far off city by now. I didn't think I would ever see ya.."

Travis was a bit taken back by the words, but collected himself. "I didn't think I would see you again, either. I'm glad that you came."

"So, what is all this about?" Duke quizzed. "You just really missed little ol' me that much?"

"Heh. So what if I did, is that so bad?" the ferret chuckled. Both small mammals were soon sitting on the bench, making small chat back and forth. The conversation jumped many different places until Travis decided to take a risk and ask a pretty important question.

"So how are things now?" Travis casually asked. The slick smile on Duke's face instantly dropped and he gave a sigh, facing the ferret.

"Things...Aren't exactly the best right now," Duke answered. "But what about you? Did you ever get that degree?"

"Well actually," Travis winced. "No, I never did. But it's not bad at all, I got a pretty great job with my old friend Gideon."

"Oh..." Duke smiled anyways. "That's good to hear."

The two of them found another subject to talk about and had a long conversation till the sun was just a sliver in the horizon.

"We should do this again soon," Travis smiled, standing up. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small note of paper and handed it to Duke. The weasel took it and gasped upon seeing it was the ferret's number. "It was great to see you again." Travis said goodbye and soon took off on his bike.

Duke was left on the bench, staring at the number written on the paper. He couldn't believe that Travis just gave it to him just like that. Smiling, Duke stood up from the bench and started to make his way back to the crumbled house he called home.
