Maximillian was released from house arrest the next day and headed over to see how we were doing. Donovan had contacted him and explained what had happened. Max had come straight over and found quite the sight. All of the other men were bandaged up, thanks to Fiona's help. They'd heal, but for the time being bed rest had been reccommended. Fiona tightened Kane's bandages around his abdomen and smirked at him as he winced. He was sat at the end of the couch in the lounge, growling and wincing whenever Fiona pulled on his bandages. Donovan was sat at the other end, smiling at Kane's discomfort. Snow was sat beside him, he was the most wound. He had healed almost all of the wounds though. That miraculous ability of his had saved him again. His arm was in a sling though, broken bones can be healed, but dislocated ones need relocating before the healing could begin. Fiona had popped him back into place and had advised he use the sling until he was fully healed.

I was sat beside him, knees huddled against my chest while I remembered what had happened. I'd tried feeling around for the beast inside me since the transformation, but had not found her. Was she hiding? Sleeping? Perhaps it was a double-edged sword, and like me she was exhausted and had blacked out as soon as she'd been able to. I had donned a pair of pale blue pyjama bottoms and a white tank top for bed. Snow wore his blue boxers and t-shirt, while Donovan had donned pale green bottoms and nothing else. He was bruised, but had not needed bandages.

Maximillian was standing at the windows back leaning against the smooth surface. He'd donned a white dress shirt, black slacks and black dress shoes. He'd unbuttoned the shirt to show an expanse of furred chest, while his thick tail swung behind him. His arms crossed and his muscular form towering over us all as he looked at us as a whole. He smiled and looked at Donovan.

"I've never met anyone whose crossed paths with a council member and survived," he said in that deep voice.

"Don't look at me. I never had the pleasure of encountering Sawyer on the roof last night. That pleasure belongs to Kane and Eben alone."

"So what happened then? He said the council would let the massacres continue?"

Donovan nodded. He added, "We know now that Sawyer was not acting on the council's terms."

Maximillian frowned. "Have you contacted the council since then?"

"I spoke with a representative. Sawyer's position as a council member has been revoked."

"Revoked?" Maximillian repeated.

"It appears a position on the board has become vacant. I have no idea what's going to happen where they are concerned. But Sawyer's interest in Eben, has piqued their own."

"So you should expect a visit from them anytime soon then?" Maximillian asked.

Donovan nodded and looked at me. "But I do not believe they will be as dangerous as before. They never foresaw Sawyer's betrayal. He sullied their name and they'll do what they can to regain that name."

"Their reputation means more to them than Eben's new abilities." Maximillian smirked and added, "Looks like your in the clear for the time being."

"I hope so." I smiled back at the alpha lion.

"Regardless of the council's plans, Sawyer lives on. And what's more he's obtained abilities that he believes have stemmed from his age and presence within the council."

"The illusions, you mean?" Maximillian replied looking serious now. "Were they so powerful?"

"The illusions bespelled those wereanimals and even controlled Zeke and Kane. He had been experimenting with his new capabilities and mastered them when he controlled Kane."

Maximillian frowned and said, "I failed as an alpha where Zeke is concerned, but he was a tormented youth and was self-loathing too."

Donovan smiled, a sad glimmer in his green eyes. "It was not your fault, Max. Sawyer was growing in power and took advantage of whatever situation he could. It was bad timing, Max."

"I still have to speak with his family though, Donovan. I don't know what will happen. Families may hate their children if they become one of the monsters, but if they die that hatred can go."

"Your worried they'll blame you?" Snow intervened.

Maximillian nodded. He then smirked and then, "I'll deal with it."

Snow smiled back and said, "Good to hear."

"So will Sawyer be a problem? Will he cause anymore massacres?" Maximillian asked, looking to Donovan now.

It was Kane who said, "No. I don't think we'll hear off Sawyer for a while. He's infatuated with Eben, just like Donovan and Snow are."

Maximillian blinked and asked, "So he wants you as a mate to his alpha?"

"No idea. But I think Kane's right. He's intrigued by me, and knows right now I could kill him if I could master this power inside me. But for now he'll keep quiet until he's prepared. That will take time."

"Time we can use to bolster our defenses and get back to recruiting the other wereanimal groups in LA?"

I nodded at the lion and smiled. "Your still on board with the idea then?" I asked.

Maximillian grinned and said, "Being around you seems to be making alphas stronger. Both Snow and Donovan have grown in strength since they bound themselves to you. Not a bad ally to have around."

In time newspapers and channels stopped reporting on the previous massacres. Sawyer never made a reappearance. Part of me wishes I'd skewered him when I had the chance, but another part of me didn't want to see him in order to do that anytime soon. I was happy with him being anywhere but here. The bonding with Donovan did indeed make him stronger, he's leading alot better and the plans to recruit other wereanimal groups are moving ahead with Maximillian's help. Nico is still a problematic wereanimal alpha, but we've all agreed to leave the tigers til last. The council has promised to visit us within the next couple of months. The fact Sawyer turned on them and acted under their name has shamed them. They want to make up for that, but Donovan has warned me they are still old and traditional thinkers. They think like their beasts and share similiar idealisms as Sawyer does, except the madness that took Sawyer enabled him to act upon them. Snow has theorised that their age has withered Sawyer's mind, hence his madness. We're worried now that the other council members are going to madden over time. As agreed, the lions and wolves are helping one another out. We're even had some of them over from time to time. Nothing too strenuous, but we did have a day where we tested to see who indeed would make a good soldier for the future problems. Sawyer was our only forseeable problem right now and before he returned I wanted to have mastered this new power of mine.

I managed to find that deep, dark ocean again and speak with the wolf inside me. She said that her role as Lupine was one of defense, she defended the ones who followed her King and she defended her King when he couldn't do it himself. I agreed with everything she'd said, except one. She wanted Kane now it seemed. Her beast and his beast had found one another the night he'd gone wild, and now she was attempting to bind herself to him. Kane's beast may want to mate, but he doesn't want to. He believes being bound is a bad thing and regardless of how much he cares for me, he doesn't want it to happen. Kane's sollitude has increased, perferring to be alone so he can train and strengthen his skills. But he has distanced himself from us. I asked Donovan what he thought Kane's issue was, and according to him before Kane came to Donovan's pack, he was bound to an alpha and that alpha died. It had been a traumatic event and Kane had sworn never to become bound since then. I could feel the pull of his beast whenever he was in the room, but from what I could tell, the madness we'd been promised had not set in. For me at least. Donovan had theorised it was because I was already bound to two others and that was preventing the binding's madness.

Time would tell, but for the moment things had settled down. There were anxieties about Sawyer and the council, but we relished in the moment of peace we had. Like I said, time would tell.
