Dragon Heart: Greydor Story
Chapter one: A new Start
I jumped out of the way just in time as my father wooden sword slammed on the ground where I use to be. In my half dragon half human form, (sorry don't know how to spell it lol) I took a few steps back as I held my own stick in front of me. The new island the female human that helped my father while he was full human told the Elders that she and her mate found an island that no one had claimed or was even on a map to be claimed. After father became the head Elder he and the rest of us made sure to transfer the Dragon Tear we had carefully toward our new home. It was amazing! Caves and fields and water all around, animals were also found around; we made sure to make the hunt a small one so we wouldn't fly out of the island reach to catch our game. Father kept his word of training me as he circled around as I did the same but the other way to keep our gap wide and long. Stella one of the Elders and my mother watched us carefully as father made the first move. Running with the speed he gained as a human he closed the gap between us and jumped again in the air and twirled his body like a top, I remember this when I saw him fight Drake that he killed after a two year wait and as I watched him do this same move; I smiled. Twisting my body in a counter like spin from his own I brought my stick up as his collided with my own causing them both to snap in half. "Alright you two..." we looked over toward Stella as she stood up looking weak, "I'm sorry but I must ask to stop this, this is causing me too much to keep Brandon in this form."
My father nodded as he threw the stick he used in the fire next to mom as he went toward her. "I'm sorry Stella." He told her bowing, "I forgot how much time has past, by all means let the magic go." She nodded as her eyes closed and father's body began to glow. His body grew as his neck grew and a set of his wings came back, this went on for almost thirty seconds until he was his true form now; a dragon. He twisted his neck causing a loud snapping sound to be heard as Stella looked to the brink of falling over. With the help of mom father stood her back up. "You need to eat." He told her in stern voice, "You know what's happen if you don't." Stella nodded her head, if he wasn't here I'm sure she would've said no, but he was the head Elder; the Alpha. Mom came over to me and nuzzled my cheek causing me to look at her.
"Your skills have grown Greydor," she told me with a smile. "I think you almost bested your father!" Dad turned back and chuckled deep in his throat.
"She's right my son," I looked up at him and smiled. "I thought for a second that you would've bested me, I mean the way you countered that last attack; wonderful!" I beamed at my father; I had a lot to fill. I mean he was the hero of the dragons here seeing how the Knight of the Old gave him his power to stop Drake, and how he is the head Elder. I didn't want to dishonour him. Looking at him and then my mother, they still looked the same like they did when we left our old home almost fifteen years ago, but I had changed. I was still the same size that he was as a human when in this form, six foot two, but as a dragon I was just below his neck. My muscles from training in the way of the blade could be seen, my wings lounger and even a horn under my chin. "And we wont be training together anymore," This caught me by surprised. "I taught you all I know Greydor." He brought his face down to mine, "You have to learn to teach yourself from now on, but heed this what I'm about to tell you." His head towered over me as I looked up. "Every choice you make will affect this clan, so chose wisely; understand?" I nodded my head as mom rolled her eyes.
"Brandon...do you have to sound like the Elder all the time; or just when one is with us?"
Dad laughed as he shook his head also causing Stella to laugh. "Sorry," he responded rubbing the back of his neck with one of his claws. "I keep forgetting that this thing is hard to turn off; being the Alpha and all." We all laughed but stopped when a low growling sound was heard. My mom was in front of me in seconds while Stella and dad got ready for what ever made that sound.
"Um...guys?" I waved my claws a bit and pointed to my gut as they turned toward me as it growled again. "That was me." Everyone bellowed in laughter as my mother nudged me.
"I think your old enough to hunt on your own, go on have fun!" I nodded turning back to my dragon form as I grew to my real size.
"Thanks mom!" I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and turned my back toward them and took off into the air at high speed; leaving the three older dragons to talk with themselves. Looking down at our island I smiled to myself, hatchlings just now learning how to fly as they cried in trumpet for their growth. I remember the first day I flew how dad and mom nuzzled and told me I was to be a great dragon. I had to smile to myself as I remembered also the first day I saw my father for the first time, but at the same time; a sort of fear. How he held the blade in his hand getting ready to fight Drake who thought I was his son, and the power he held when bringing my father closer and closer to death. But somehow dad pulled though and won! The only thing I feared now was the Hunter Leader who got away with many of his men after Drake failed in his mission. I always had nightmares of the Hunters coming after us, but I didn't want my folks to worry so I kept that to myself. Catching the smell of Elk nearby, I landed with a soft thud. They smelt like they were coming from the coast line so I followed. As I brought from the trees I saw them, but I also saw a broken down ship.
It looked almost like a mansion belt for water, but small enough to hold maybe ten people. The boat had me confused, for reason why would something like this be here? Sure there was that storm last night; maybe this ship was caught in that storm and hit land. Could the humans in this boat be alive; or dead? I made my way closer scaring the Elks away but right now that was the least of my worries, a hole could be seen from the bow of the ship, which was stuck on a large sharp rock; making it stand bow up. As I moved closer, the smell of fresh blood hit my muzzle like a train. Shaking my head I made my way closer and went eye wide at what I saw. Three bodies lay on their backs, two of which had their bellies ripped open with a large piece of the ship jagged deep inside them. But one was left untouched, only the clothing it wore was ripped, no blood or cuts. It was as if death made sure to keep this one safe. I moved closer still, very carefully to make sure not to awaken the human to fast and become frighten of me. But as I moved closer I saw what kind of human I was watching, by the rise of her chest; I was staring at a female human. Her hair draped over her face, the blondness only covering half of her pale skin. Her eyes twitched every few seconds as if trying to awaken; but couldn't. She wore a long sleeve back blouse with the matching black pants and shoes. Only a single ring was seen on her fingers as I looked over more. The howling of wolves shot me out of my trance as I shot my head up to look around, it was getting dark and the wolves would have their hunt. Looking down at the female I started to think what my father said to me only thirty minutes ago. 'Every choice you make will affect this clan, so chose wisely; understand?' looking down at the human I made my choice, picking her up by the back of her shirt with my jaws I start to slowly walk to a cave I found years ago just due north. By the times I hit though the trees, the sound of flesh ripping and bones snapping could already be heard; did I make the right choice in this...?
I was now in my human like form; if she did awaken I didn't want to scare her out of her wits. I laid her on a bed of leaves and used whatever clothing was ripped off from our walk to use as a dump cloth on her head. Looking around I became glad I found this cave, a lake flowed though and barely any rocks on the high tops. I heard a groan as I looked at her, the human body started to move and I had to think fast. Standing up and hid in the shadows as I saw her stand to her full height. She stood maybe smaller then me; her blond hair falling behind her as they bounce off her back. My eyes where transfixed on her, like if I was eyeing a prey to attack; but this time it was different. I didn't know why, it just felt like it. "Ow..." she held her head, her voice sounded soft maybe because she was just waking up? "W...where am I? How did I get her?" she looked around as if she would get the answers just by looking. I backed away more so she wouldn't see me but step too far and let loose a stone rolling toward her. She saw the stone as she looked toward where I was blood red eyes looking back. "Hello?" she moved closer, what was I going to do?!
"Stop!" she stopped as I cried out, "I...I can't be seen, it's er...part of my clan rules!" she gave a puzzle look her eyes scanning trying to find me.
"So I can't see you?"
"Pretty much yeah." She sat back down with a loud sigh. I felt kind of bad, not showing her who or what I was; but maybe she would tell, maybe not right? "What's you name?" I asked her still keeping in the shadows as she turned back to where she thought I was; and she was dead on.
"My name is Sam," she answered me with a slight smile. "What's yours?" I gave it some thought, what could be the trouble of giving her my name right?
"I'm Greydor."
"That's a rare name to be heard." She titled her head, "Does it mean anything?" I closed my eyes to remember. My mother told me that in the Draken tongue that it meant 'he who saves', and how it was my great great great grandfather name.
"Yeah it means 'he who saves', or something like that." I saw her give a slight nod. After that we didn't speak, my belly ached with hungry but I couldn't show my self; I didn't want to scare her away.
"Are you hungry?"
I looked up from biting my nails. "I have a few things in my pocket that didn't get destroyed in the crash." So she did know about that. "I know I can't see you but maybe if I put my hand in the shadow you can take it right?" she had a point.
"That could work." She nodded as she stood, taking a apple from her pants and putting it in front of me. I brought my claw out to take the large red apple, but felt another hand around my wrist. And before I could pull away, she pulled me out of the shadows for her to see me fully.
