Rat Rebellion
Chapter 9
By Draconicon
Not long after, the guards parted, allowing them entry into the governor's mansion. Anastus could hardly believe that they were allowed inside, as rats were not allowed past the walls without the express permission of the royal governor unless they had lived, worked, and died on the premises. The only exceptions were those that the governor had...urges towards...and they were not allowed to leave once they were allowed through the gates.
It was a large place, with well-watered grounds and thick hedges that formed almost a defensive maze between the mansion itself and the gates. Those that knew the path would be able to find their way through with ease, ambushing those that were following them. Those that did not, however, would find themselves lost, slowed down while the defenders had time to regroup and decide what they would do next.
Or at least, that had once been the case. Anastus saw multiple holes in the hedges, places where the rat slaves were regularly passing through, giving them the 'secret passages' that servants used in the mansion out on the grounds, as well. Unfortunately, out here, it was a far greater security risk.
He filed that away as he, Lidochka, Cassia, and the others were led through the maze to the front door. More guards met them there, all wearing the royal livery, and they narrowed their eyes as he and Lidochka were brought forward.
"Informants," the vixen that led them along said, and that made them part. The doors opened, and the guards led them in.
Surrounded by dozens of foxes and vixens that were fully dressed when he was forbidden anything more than a loincloth, he felt the pressure of his presumed enslavement pressing down on him harder than he had in days, in weeks. Not since Cassia's quiet resistance to his plan had he felt anything like this, and he realized just how 'free' things had been in Florus's estate before the King's arrival. He had almost forgotten what it was like to be a slave, and only long instincts had kept him from giving them away.
He walked with his head down through the great hallways of the mansion, keeping himself from looking at any fox that might have been looking at him. Making eye contact was still forbidden for slaves, at least unbidden.
But he still looked when he could, studying the foxes. Those that saw him and Lidochka knew that there was something wrong. They knew that he and she were not the same as the other rats, though they clearly didn't know what was going on. They just knew that they weren't as small, as lean as the other slaves.
It's your fault, he thought, hiding a shake of his head. If it wasn't for you and your sort...
He didn't let the thought complete itself. With everything that Lidochka had done to mess with the plan, he needed to have his head focused, cleared of emotion. If he started thinking with anger, with fury, then the whole plan could come collapsing down around their ears. He needed to think, because she wasn't going to.
They were brought to the door that led to the great hall of the mansion. In other times, this would be where petitioners would have waited to see the governor. Today, they would be brought before the king.
The vixen commanding the other guards stopped, turning to face them. She narrowed her eyes, looking down her muzzle as she looked at him, then Lidochka, and back.
"You will speak only when spoken to. When the King asks you a question, you will answer as far as you can, and then stop speaking. You will not stutter, stammer, or disgrace yourself before him. Any embarrassment that you cause will be answered by the greatest punishment that we can devise. Do you understand me, rats?"
"I understand, Mistress."
"We understand...Mistress," Lidochka added.
"...You will wait here."
The vixen stepped through the doors, taking Cassia with her. The lack of control in that moment left him with a feeling of worry, but he suppressed it, holding it back as he kept as neutral a face as he could manage.
She's ordered to tell the right story. She can't break those orders. We tested that.
That didn't mean that he felt comfortable with it. All it would take was one little question that they hadn't thought of, and then the whole lie might start falling apart. Then the King would know that there was something wrong with the situation. Then he and Lidochka could be executed because of the King's fear. Then the rebellion would -
No. Stop.
He had come here on Lidochka's urging, but she was right: this was the only way forward, and they needed to do something to take control of the situation again. Any further dithering, and the King would take control, and that would be deadly.
Just...be patient...
The muttering around them grew louder as the various foxes looked them over. Some whispered at just how strong they looked, at the muscles they displayed. Others took their lack of clothing as another sign of the 'savage' nature of rats, as if the pair of them lacked the capability to dress themselves. As if they were not kept naked this way by the very foxes that complained about how they looked.
It was one reminder after another of the thing-hood of slavery, and what the rats in the other cities were suffering from. He forced himself to relax, to not react with anger. It was harder than he liked.
The doors opened again, and the vixen guard stepped through. She nodded.
"You may enter. Remember what you were told."
"Yes, Mistress."
Fixing Lidochka with a firm stare that demanded her silence, he stepped through the door, his head down as demurely as he could manage. He remembered everything that Florus had demanded of him, and made sure to channel that sort of obeisance, ramping it up as far as he dared to avoid suspicion.
As he walked down the red carpet, he felt the stares of other soldiers and nobles that had been gathered in the great hall. The various nobles of the kingdom and their armies had come to the city, and they were observing him, staring at him, this rat informant that promised to bring information that would shatter this little rebellion.
If only they knew.
As he reached the edge of the carpet, he bowed, lowering himself to all fours and then pressing his head to the floor. Lidochka followed suit behind him, thankfully, showing her own submission to the king. They waited, silently, until -
"Hmmph. Rise, I suppose."
The King's command gave him permission. He lifted his head as he stood up, glancing at those that were assembled at the raised dais over him. The vixen had come forward, taking her place at the great seat of the governor. It had been taken by the King, a middle-aged vulpine that had held the throne for nearly a decade at this point. Anastus didn't know what his politics were, what he wanted, but he knew that this King - King Jovian - had kept up the same slave laws as his forebears, which was reason enough to be worried for him.
The vixen guards the door, but also the King...perhaps a member of his bodyguard...
It was worth keeping an eye on. Cassia was also beside the King, a shaken woman that looked like she was barely holding herself together. That was the role that she'd been told to play, which meant that she had probably succeeded. At the very least, she hadn't been called out on her story, which was something.
He did not dare meet anyone's eyes, merely giving them a quick skim before lowering his head, as if looking up at had been completely accidental. It was enough to give him some reassurance that they were still in the clear.
"So..." King Jovian leaned on one fist, shaking his head as his tail twitched to and fro behind him. "You two are...loyal slaves, then?"
"We are witnesses to a crime, oh Majesty. And we come to give information and witness to the crime."
"Hmm. And what did you witness?"
Careful. Careful. Respect and gentleness. Use the tools that you have to craft a good story.
"The corruption of Lord Florus, in his embrace of the rats as tools beyond mere slavery. The way that he has spread alteration, and empowerment of those that do no deserve it, oh Majesty. And his conspiracy to break those around him beneath his heel, to create a city of horror."
"And how did he do this?"
"Lord Florus ordered that his rats seize the Mistress Cassia, raping her repeatedly. Your arrival prevented the worst of the effects, however, oh Majesty."
"Hmmm, my Majesty prevents many things. And what would have happened to her if the worst had happened?"
"There are other victims, oh Majesty, in the carriage that accompanied us. Those that were not...that could not be saved. We apologize, oh Majesty. We are but slaves, and had no way to resist."
"...And yet, you could come here."
"It was our one chance, oh Majesty. We are surrounded on all sides, masters and mistresses giving us one order, then another. We can only follow our master, until the greater master appears. With your appearance, oh Majesty -"
"Yes, yes, my Majesty allows you to speak to me, talking to a greater fox than the one behind all this. Yes, yes, I understand."
Good. He's believing me.
It was a good start. Shifting the blame off the slaves immediately was his biggest priority. There would be some that would be punished, he had no doubt of that. The King had to show that he had power, that he would be re-establishing control over the city. However, if he could at least prove that the slaves were in an untenable position, then that might keep the punishment from becoming deadly.
That was his hope, at the very least. With the King's army here, that meant that the whole of the rebellion rested on him telling a good enough story and giving the King a good enough reason to keep him alive for that little bit longer. Anything else was unacceptable.
King Jovian shook his head, looking out the window. The gray-furred fox shook his head, sighing.
"It is a pity that the population of rats is so necessary. You rodents have never been able to learn your place, but some few of you have been...essential to the running of different estates. To kill the lot of you would solve many problems, but cause others."
Anastus managed to keep himself from stiffening, but only just. In one breath, the King had shown what value the rats had to the throne, and to the land as a whole: nothing but labor, and labor that they would get rid of if they could. It wasn't just that they were beasts, or that they were slaves, born that way. It was that they were labor, and if there was the slightest chance of getting something that did their job better, they would be slaughtered for the 'problems' that they presented.
There is no fixing this...there is no fixing something like this...
"There are still those...those loyal to the throne, oh Majesty," he managed to say, though with a slight hesitation. He hoped that it would be chalked up to the awe of being before the royal Majesty of the realm. "There are those that are tainted, and those...those that aren't..."
"There are loyal rats? Such a novel concept."
"I am loyal, oh Majesty. I have - we have given you the one behind the conspiracy."
"Yes, yes," the King said, shaking his head. "I'm not here to listen to the possibilities of your people. I'm here to deal with an uprising. We would have found Florus eventually, but if you have further information, rodent..."
"...I have...I have information, Majesty, but I need time...time to compile the list properly..."
"I suppose we will have to reserve some of you for breeding stock, if nothing else."
"..."
"You will see to it that we have the list by the end of the week, rodent."
"Y-yes, Majesty."
"House them separately; we cannot trust them to focus on the task at hand if there is convenient 'company' for them," King Jovian said, gesturing at his guards. They stepped forward swiftly, pulling him away from Lidochka and vice-versa. "Rodent. I would pray that you are not lying to me."
"I'm not, Majesty."
"Good. Take them to their chambers. If they show any resistance, kill them."
The guards did their job quickly. He barely had a chance to glance at the albino female with him before she was taken away, pulled out of the hall and down a different direction. He hoped that she would be alright. He hoped, more, that she would be able to keep her mouth shut.
Just a few days...a few days...
Anastus had no plans for giving up other rats in the rebellion. There was no point in that, no point in trying to sell off the others to save himself. What he needed to do was follow the plan. Now that he and Lidochka were properly ensconced in the palace, then it would only be a matter of time before the two of them had the chance to start interacting more...intimately...with the foxes. They could be the monsters that they needed to be.
He was almost thankful that the foxes taking him to his quarters threw him through the doorway; it gave him a reason to fall to his knees from how much he made himself sick just thinking that.
I am being a monster...but sometimes...you have to be a monster...
He wished that he could entirely believe that. The rat slowly got to his feet, looking around. The room was little more than a cell, something that the slaves back at Florus's manor would have liked, but still not much more than that. Realizing just how used to the bigger room of the master bedroom he'd become, he shook his head and walked over to the bed. Stuffed with hay, and old hay at that, it was at least something that had rotted down to a softer consistency, so he wouldn't be stabbed with it through the night.
Shaking his head, he leaned down, sitting down -
Click.
The door opened behind him, and as he looked over his shoulder, four foxes stepped through. They were not armored, but they still carried the symbol of the king on their chests. The cloth tunics were adorned with the monarch's sigil. He looked up at them, seeing them grinning, and then looked down to see their pants bulging ever so slightly.
...Oh, no.
"What is -"
"Rodents are only good for one thing when they're not working, right lads?" the lead fox said, chuckling. "And since the female's already got a line around the mansion, guess we're getting this one."
"I...I..."
"Get rid of that loincloth."
Anastus thought that it was an order for him, but no. It was for one of the other soldiers. The fox leaned over, grabbing the rope wrapped around his waist and giving it a pull. It came loose in a ripping fashion, exposing his shaft, his sac, everything. Worse, the fox shoved him, and he knew that he had to allow them to just do what they want to preserve the illusion. He stumbled backwards, only to be shoved again, and again, until he tumbled over. He hit the bed, his legs going up before coming back down.
The foxes were right there, holding them apart, rubbing his thighs. One walked right up, ignoring the fact that he was better muscled than the lot of them, and shoved a finger right past -
"NNnngh!"
Anastus hadn't felt anything back there in weeks. When Lord Florus had used him in the past, it had been sparingly, more in the context of being used for experiments, or put through various different torments that had nothing to do with sexual play. Despite the fact that he had been turned, despite the fact that he could take pain better, he still felt that, particularly with how dry he was back there.
"Heh, you might be big, but you're still a good little slut, ain't ya?" the fox grunted. "Yeah, look at that. Opening right up."
Out of fear more than out of desire. He gritted his teeth, forcing his head back, knowing that he couldn't fight back. The minute he did, one of them - at the very least, one of them - would raise the alarm. This was the King's way of knowing if he was loyal or not, and the same thing was being done to Lidochka. If they went with it, if they didn't fight back, then there was a better chance that the King would trust them, not watch them so closely.
But that didn't mean that it was easy. He bit off whimpers as the fox soldiers pushed ever closer, rubbing his asshole before shoving another finger in, then another. Only the fact that his body had been improved so much by the potion that Florus had made kept him from being in agony in that moment.
As he was nearly fisted, another fox climbed on the bed, dropping his trousers and squatting over Anastus's face. Furred balls led back to a pucker that was as sweaty as it was clenching.
"Go on, rodent. Shove your tongue in there. Show us how much you love your betters. Eat my ass, slave!"
He could have resisted. He could have fought. He could have done any number of things. But all he could do was endure. The fox sat down, drowning him in a wave of bitterness, musk, and sweat, and he groaned as he was reminded of where they saw him, where he had to pretend he belonged.
Anastus stuck out his tongue, biting off the complaints that wanted to come rushing from his mouth at the taste that filled his mouth. It was wrong, nasty, all kinds of things, things that he didn't want to think about. Not so foul as to be...unclean...but still a humiliating experience that nobody should have -
"Nnnnngh!"
His scream of discomfort came as the lead fox finally managed to shove his full fist up his asshole. The feeling of being that stretched was something that he had never even imagined, let alone felt before. He stared straight up, his eyes going wider and wider as that fist twisted back and forth, pulling at his guts, or so it felt.
"Heh, these rats can take anything."
"Yeah, I think this one's even tougher than the rest."
"Yeah, but they're all the same, really. You had one, you had the lot."
"I dunno. I think this one's ass is going to be something special. He's clenching hard, you know. I think the trash-muncher likes it."
Anastus was drifting on pain that was rapidly transforming into fury. His body was made to take that fist over and over again, and each time that it popped into his hole, each time that it made it past his rim, it barely got any easier. He could feel just how hard they were using him, not caring, not bothering to take it easy or make it any better. All that mattered was their pleasure, and they were getting plenty of that.
In, out, in, out that fist went, all while the fox squatting over his face kept sitting down, grinding on his cheeks, and then standing up again. Anastus barely got any air that wasn't tainted by the smell of sweaty fox ass for nearly five minutes, and even then, it was only because -
"Alright, I think he's loose enough now."
POP!
The fist came free of his hole, leaving him feeling stretched, loose. He was rolled over, made to face the other way, and all he could do was go along with it. His eyes narrowed, staring straight at the far wall even as he felt the leader standing up on the bed, rubbing a tapered tip against his hole.
This is happening. I'm right back...I'm being used...I'm being...used...
No. He was being raped. And there was nothing that he could do to stop it.
As the tip slid forward, as he felt it squelching into him, he realized just how Lidochka could always be so angry. They had done this to her day in and day out for as long as she had been alive. She had never been allowed to be a person. She had never even been allowed to be a slave. She had always been...this.
A thing for them to enjoy.
A thing for them to satisfy themselves with.
His fingers tightened at the sheets, and he held back the screams that wanted to leave him as the foxes lined up to use him. Already, the first one was close to knotting, and he had every reason to believe that he was going to get knot-fucked tonight...
The End
