Slayer or Layer 46

For Lorvianne

By Draconicon

Once Lorkos had all the information that he needed - or at least, as much as he was willing to risk continued transformation for - the once-wolf left Mr. Smiles behind. The other wolf had been transformed enough and 'drugged' enough on the juices that Lorkos dripped all over his face that he doubted that the other male had any chance of following, but he moved with all due swiftness regardless.

As he pulled his robe back on, he realized that the sun had set, and past set. They were well into the night, though not yet midnight by the position of the moon through the window. He imagined that meant that most of Morton was either on its way to bed or getting ready for a party. Either way, that meant that it was a good time for them to get the hell out of there before they got caught.

Making his way down the stairs with caution - the robe was a bit looser than he liked, after all - Lorkos noticed two things almost immediately as he entered the common room.

The first was that Lia wasn't there. She must have gone out into town, looking for something or someone of interest. His immediate panic was squelched, however, by the second thing.

Every male in the room slowly turned towards him, their heads tilting back, their eyes hazing slightly. It was almost the same reaction that he had gotten from Mr. Smiles when he first allowed the wolf to smell his juices, to get a hint of his heat. That meant that the curse on him was probably getting stronger, and if it wasn't enough to drag them all into a mating frenzy, then that meant that he needed to get going before it was.

He walked a little faster to the bar, where Mastar was still seated. The other former wolf looked at him with a blink, and then a groan, rubbing his nose.

"What...what the hell is that?"

"That's something that's going to be a problem."

"I'll...mmmph...I'll say."

"Clear-headed?"

"Clear enough. Not...not easy, though."

"Where's Lia?"

"Outside. Somewhere."

"Why did you let her go?"

"Because she wanted to go. She looked like she was going to be able to handle it. Why?"

"We're going. Now."

"...What did you find out?"

"Gryphon patrols between us and the mountain, and probably some ground-based ones, at this point. The army's scrambling everything out there, so that means that they're searching for Ashin."

"Or us," Mastar muttered, rubbing his nose again, shuffling his own clothes. "We didn't exactly travel quietly, did we?"

"Yeah, but they could stop us on the road. I don't think that they need this many gryphons if they're not planning on fighting a real dragon."

"Point."

"We need to find her and go."

"Yeah. I'll meet you outside."

As Mastar made his way out, the bartender stepped forward. The big bull looked down at Lorkos, his eyes already hazing over, and a bulge starting to form in his pants. The annoyance of seeing someone that horned up without him even doing something warred with the desire to take advantage of it. His need was still higher than he liked, and even if it wasn't, there were other things that he could get from a bull that was too horny to think clearly.

"You need something, hon?" the bull asked.

"Yes...what do you have that travels well?"

With a bag of bread, dried meat, and a few bottles of wine - hey, nobody said that they had to travel completely sober - Lorkos rejoined Mastar outside. The night air was cool, and there was a breeze up, which meant that the other transformed male didn't look quite so bothered as he had in the inn.

"Think that you can handle this?" Lorkos asked.

"You mean the smell?"

"And the curse."

"I'll have to, won't I?"

"Glad you see it that way."

"Yeah. Lia's down the street, hitting the midnight market."

That was something that he really hadn't wanted to hear, but he supposed that they didn't have much choice in the matter. She thought that they needed more supplies, and she probably had a better chance of getting them than Mastar did, particularly without the money that they might need to spend. She could flirt -

Better not be.

He found himself growling before he realized it, and shook his head. He needed to have a sober mind for this, one that wasn't clouded by anger. And he definitely needed to stop being an overprotective father before it bit him in the ass.

"How far?"

"Just that way. Less than a mile."

"Come on, then."

And with that, they were off. The breeze was working so far to keep from affecting the others in the streets as he passed, but even as it brushed the heat scent away into the night, he could still feel them staring at him, looking at him with curiosity as he passed by. He kept his head down, not wanting them to see anything that might reflect the moonlight, but they were, at least, not curious enough to follow him. Not yet, at least.

Someone's going to find Mr. Smiles soon enough, though, and when they see what happened to him...

The curse was changing. Mutating. It was allowing him to turn other people that he slept with into dragon-touched. More than that, while he was there, they were obedient, eager to do what he said in order to get their pleasure, not at all bothered by what was happening to them, or what others would think.

Can I use that? Lorkos wondered. Will I have to?

That was the other question, and the part that was harder to answer. He didn't want to have to use that power more than he already had, but practically, it was a good way to get information, aid, and more. He had gotten supplies that he hadn't needed to pay for, and more than that, he'd gotten information that nobody would have given him willingly. That had already paid for itself.

But the way that it spread that corruption, that transformation, that...scaliness...

I didn't ask for it. Why should they get the same chance? he tried to convince himself, but that didn't fly. He didn't want this, so why would it make it better to force it on them?

No. He needed to focus on the cure, and that was that. If he could just get to Ashin, then this whole thing would be handled, and there was no more that they'd need to worry about.

They reached the midnight market, a square towards the middle of Morton that still had torches and lamps set up along the various stalls, as well as a well-lit main stage that seemed to have an auction going on. Lorkos ignored that, following the slight feeling and scent in the air that felt like Lia, and trusting his instincts to lead him along to wherever his daughter might have gotten to.

She was somewhere, he knew. Somewhere near, somewhere...close...

The crowd pressed in from all sides, milling around him, but they were different than the average crowd. More handsy, he realized, as he felt them groping him, squeezing him, touching him from all sides. He gritted his teeth, doing his best to ignore the way that some of the mammals were fondling him, how they were starting to get closer and closer to actually reaching for his ass or his chest.

The breeze had died, he realized. He was stuck in a large, warm crowd, and the smell was gradually sifting through them. He pushed himself to move faster, even as he saw eyes go hazy around him. So far, the groping was barely by instinct, but what if they got worse? What if they started reaching for him to do more than just a casual squeeze?

Have to find her and get out. Fast.

Eventually, he caught sight of someone else in a robe, and he saw the shine of torchlight off scale. That had to be her. He darted through the crowd, hissing under his breath as he bumped into no less than four other people, and grabbed her by the shoulder. She turned, and - yes, it was Lia. He breathed a sigh of relief.

"What's wrong, Lithia?" she asked, obviously picking up on his anxiety.

"We have to leave. Now."

"Already? Why?"

"You can't smell it?"

"No."

That was something. Either she had some immunity to it from what she was, or something else was going on. Either way, there wasn't going to be a problem with a bit of incest going on, or him having to prevent it. Lorkos gestured to the other mammals around them, and Lia got the message.

"Good reason to keep moving."

"Yes. Now, come on."

"...Do you think they'll notice much right now?"

"With how horned up they're getting, probably not. What are you thinking?" Lorkos asked.

"I've been picking up a few...tricks, Lithia. May I try one?"

In hindsight, he would have considered thinking about that more than he did. In the moment, however, Lorkos was more concerned about getting them out of the village as fast as they possibly could. He nodded his permission, and Lia gestured.

He felt the power as it left her hand, felt the crowd shift. Something pressed between them, forming a corridor that went right through the mass of people. It connected them straight to one of the streets leading out of town, and he nodded his approval, even as something deep inside shrank away from what she'd done.

Magic. She can do magic now.

Grabbing her hand, he led her along, and he could hear the huffing, puffing sounds of Mastar following them. They ran down the streets, soon out of the crowd, but Lorkos didn't slow down. He didn't plan to slow down until they were so far from the town that there was no chance of them being followed.

#

They reached a little flat spot in the hills outside Morton, almost half a mile from the road proper. There, finally, Lorkos allowed them to stop. Mastar all but collapsed, and even Lia panted for breath as they were able to take a rest.

Still, he didn't feel entirely good about that. The curse had changed someone directly, and he wasn't sure how well they had covered their tracks leaving town. Lia had used magic, and that would have been noticed by someone, even if they were not remembered by the mammals that had been nearest him. But...but hopefully, they were going to be okay for the night, as long as they didn't push their luck further.

He sat down, feeling his own heart thudding in his chest. Lia seemed to have caught her breath, because she had questions.

"What did you do, Lithia?" she asked.

"I didn't do nothing."

"If so, that would be the first time."

"I really didn't. I went to get information, and...the curse got stronger."

"Did you break the rules?"

"I don't think that there's any more rules that I could break at this point."

"That's probably true, actually," she admitted.

He nodded, leaning forward and rubbing his forehead. He was starting to wonder if there was any chance in the slightest that Ashin could untangle the curse that she'd laid on him. It was no longer a question of whether she would, but whether she could, and considering the sheer tightness of the magic that she'd put on him, and the wrangled, tangled mess that it had become, he was starting to think that this might be an impossible errand.

You still have to try, though, he told himself. If you don't...

He sighed.

"I'm sorry, Lithia," Lia said. "I didn't mean to cause stress."

"You didn't. I got worried, that's all."

"I meant with the accusation."

"Ah. Well...you didn't."

"However, your scent seems to be bothering Mastar," she said, gesturing at the third member of their party.

Lorkos turned, and he groaned as he saw Mastar all but masturbating through his clothes. The once-wolf was definitely getting affected by the cursed pheromones in the air. Reaching to the earth, he picked up a pebble and tossed it in the mage's general direction, plinking his arm by sheer luck.

"Nnngh?" Mastar grunted.

"Mind doing that further off? Might clear your head."

"Nnngh...sure..."

The once-wolf went off, leaving them alone. Lorkos sighed. This was going to be a fun trip to Ashin...even if they didn't run into the patrols that he'd heard about.
