The Western Cube

Chapter 2

'Interesting' was not the word that Tatyana would have chosen for the situation, apt as it was. She was still surrounded by mechanized tendrils, smooth as serpents and twice as aggressive when something wasn't restraining them, and an AI hologram was still leering over her. One could be handled by the taser in the tablet she carried, one most definitely could not.

And now she's calling me an illegal...very American...

She didn't quite put her tablet down, but she did lower it slightly. The tigress shook her head.

"I am still in transit. I am not an illegal."

"Then you would have your paperwork and coding for entering Volt City, wouldn't you, dear," the jackal AI said, her mouth pulling back further and further in that toothy grin. "Please, present them, if you're not some unfortunate border-hopper that just happened to get caught."

"I have not yet entered your city. There's nothing to present."

"On the contrary. The moment that you stepped past the first checkpoint, you were inside Volt City. This is our sovereign territory."

Tatyana would have argued that, save for the fact that the jackal was not incorrect. This Cube was not connected to the Facility as a whole, and that meant that it was, at least by a technicality, its own location, its own territory. It wasn't feeding off the Facility's reactors, nor was it dependent on them, at least for now. She could not force it to stand down because of that.

She realized that was likely why the authorization code didn't work, either. The severing from the main hub had allowed the self-contained programs to change, no longer moderated or updated. There was likely code corruption in every corner of the AI's programming now, and the problems inherent in that situation were not pleasant to consider.

"So, my dear. Are you a proper immigrant to my city, or are you a criminal that I will have to rehabilitate?"

"...I believe that I am leaving."

"Did I say that you could leave?"

Tatyana took one step and the metal tendrils struck. She fended off two, but one managed to slither down the arm of her lab coat, running towards her back. She yanked her arm back, stepping backwards, but it was too late. She lost her sleeve, and the tendrils only stopped when the AI waved them back.

"I don't think that you understand your position, kitten. You've entered my city. Volt City is the land of opportunity...for those that play by the rules. And the fact that you're trying to break them just to get in..." The jackal chuckled, tsk-tsking softly. "I think that you have a great many lessons to learn before you're allowed to walk free."

"Then, as departure is out of the question..." Tatyana waited for the jackal to say that it wasn't, but there was no such mercy forthcoming. "Then there are other possibilities for immigrants besides paying their way in."

"Indeed, but that would require testing, testing that would have happened on the other side to 'approve' you," the AI said, the jackal puffing another mouthful of green vapor after dragging on her cigarette. "And from all the chatter, I'm completely of the opinion that you don't have any paperwork to offer me. Not to show your skills, not to show your credits, not for anything...is that right?"

So, that was how it worked. The former administrators of the Facility would send 'immigrants' into the testing Cube with different codes, giving them various statuses inside. Likely, those that were sent in weren't told what they would receive until they were sent inside, ensuring that they would be under a proper experiment rather than merely given a reward. She bit her lip, trying to think it through.

If she had a data connection, then it was possible that she might be able to brute-force the various passwords and codes that were used to establish an identity here, but that would be a two-way street. This AI would be able to reach out and affect the facility, as well, which wouldn't be ideal. As a matter of fact, it would likely be disastrous.

She glanced at the wheel topped with 'The 1%'. Tatyana hesitated, then nodded at it.

"What are the other levels of habitation?" she asked. She missed speaking Russian, but the shocks had rewired things, leaving her little choice. "The first is impossible, but perhaps we could negotiate something lower."

"Negotiate? Dear, dear, dear..."

The jackal shook her head, but despite that, she still reached over with one green-glowing finger and slowly scrolled through the wheel of options. Level six turned to level five, which was 'Executive Level'. Level four scrolled down to 'Proprietor Level'. Level three was 'Manager', level two 'Tradesman', and level one was just 'Worker.' With each successive drop in level, Tatyana noticed that the blurred-out privileges list got a little bit smaller, and the image that was offered next to the level turned a little less glamorous, until it had gone from someone relaxing poolside to someone that was crammed into a bunk bed.

And then, the jackal flicked it down one last time, down to level 0. It looked improvised, lacking a picture, but instead having a stick-figure feline that was behind bars and on its knees. She glanced at it, then back at the AI, who looked at her with an expression beyond smug.

"You aren't telling me what the costs of each are," Tatyana said.

"No, I'm not."

"Tell me."

"You really should learn the rules, dear," the AI said, tapping the end of her cigarette stick. Ash fell, then faded before it hit the ground. "If you knew that, you would know that you never, ever, ever try to tell the CEO what to do."

"...The CEO?"

"And Mayor, and chief enterprise of Volt City. You may call me Greene. Ms. Greene, that is."

"..."

"Now...I believe there's some sorting to do. After all, illegals like yourself are not guaranteed any rights. I believe - ah, yes, there it is. They never let me access these files before."

The facility hummed around her, the thrum of steadily-pulsing electricity getting louder for a moment. It was not a sound that boded well, and not one that she particularly liked to hear. Any engineer would know how similar it was to a child sucking the last bit of juice through a straw, and know how crucial power levels must be if they were being pulled like that.

And if the power crashes before I can get out...

Hopefully this was merely the result of the AI reaching for something that had previously been beyond its reach, but she didn't have high hopes for that. There were worse things to -

"Ah, yes. The rules for illegals," Ms. Greene said, looking back at her. "Rule one. 'As illegals have attempted to circumvent the rules and regulations of Volt City, they are not protected by the rules of dignity, modesty, and rights accorded to proper citizens. Exceptions to Labor and Dignity Laws are applied for the pleasure of hard-working citizens, and liberties of -' goodness, they really do allow almost anything to happen to illegals like you."

"..."

"Yes, yes. Glare as you will. You will learn your place soon enough."

Ms. Greene snapped her intangible fingers, and the tentacles struck again. Tatyana whipped around, fighting off the first few with harsh zaps that forced them to retreat or even fall, but there were too many to easily fight against. Her bare arm was seized almost immediately, pulled around and behind her back. Once it was taken, the rest of the tentacles managed to get a grip of their own, and they knocked the tablet from her fingers, sending it falling to the floor with a rough crack. The screen took on jagged lines in the corner, but the machine as a whole maintained its integrity.

The same could not be said for her. Clamp-fingers wrapped around her wrists, binding them together, and more gripped her ankles, lifting her off the ground. Two more tentacles wrapped around her middle, supporting the others, but she could feel the tight metal grip around her ankles and wrists, pulling her back, restraining her -

_Tatyana was forced to moan. Not pushed to, but forced to as the electric wand dragged along her leg. She hissed when it left, but when the pain returned, she felt it, and she MOANED for the scientists.

"As you can see, the specimen is taking to the sensitivity training well," the grizzly said. He dragged the wand across her sole, arcs of white, burning heat dancing from it to her pads, leaving her screaming before moaning. "The serum is affecting her, ensuring that she remains pliant to those that can give her what she needs."

The white tigress hissed through her clenched teeth, yanking her legs back, feeling the hard metal squeezing all the tighter around her ankles. It wasn't her fault. She was made to like this. The restraints - there was no escape. This wasn't her fault. This wasn't her fault._

"NNNNNGH!"

Another sharp shock, the wand slowly rolling down along her calf, sending fire through her muscles as they cramped and seized, moving along her thigh, and then right over her sex. The wand buzzed menacingly, on the verge of delivering a lightning storm to a place that was not meant to receive it.

"Say you enjoy it, Tatyana."

"I...I enjoy it," she said, staring at the ceiling.

"Do you enjoy pain?"

"I enjoy pain."

"Do you want more?"

"I want what you are willing to give me."

She would not ask for pain. This was not her fault. The bindings gave them power. The bondage took away hers. This was not her -

"NNNNNNNGH!"

Tatyana ripped herself out of the memory of the wand playing between her legs just in time for her lab coat to be ripped from her body. She panted for breath as she was exposed, her eyes wide as the shreds of her coat hit the floor. Ms. Greene looked up at her with a contemplative chuckle, resting her chin on her hand.

"My, my. Are you certain that you needed that tablet? Or was that just to get a woman like you to your clients?"

"Nnngh...let me down..."

"I would say...no."

Ms. Greene flicked a finger. Without warning, an announcement began playing over the intercom.

" Proper Citizens have rights, while Illegals have none. Please enjoy your right to see all illegals exposed for what they are, as the new law uncovered by CEO Greene strips our new illegal population of all clothes until further notice."

Tatyana's eyes widened. Ms. Greene walked up the air on steps that seemed to only exist to her, the jackal coming to a stop before the suspended tigress.

"After all, you should never forget what you've arrived as. But of course, even an illegal can earn a place in Volt City...eventually."

"Let...me...go," Tatyana hissed through clenched teeth.

"I intend to. All the way to the bottom of the city. Be thankful, little kitten. You are being allowed to enter the greatest city in the world. You had best prove yourself worthwhile...after your appropriate screening, of course."

The tentacles holding her up carried her further along. Other tendrils came up, narrower with more delicate gripping fingers, and started pulling at her panties. She strained her legs, pulling her thighs together for a moment before the clamps gripped all the tighter at her ankles. Something went funny, and her legs went limp, coming apart. The tigress stared at her undergarments as they were rolled away, pulled off her legs and thrown into the scrap heap that her lab coat had become.

"Ah, yes. The rule said absolutely no apparel. That includes your footwear, as well."

"No." Tatyana shook her head, curling her toes and sinking her claws into the rubber sandals. "No."

"Dear, dear, do you really think that you can stop me?"

"I am not giving you anything without a fight."

"Then you will be fighting for the rest of your life."

Tatyana felt the first metal tendril sliding in just under her heel, forcing its way between her sole and the sandal proper. It pushed forward, almost worm-like as it wriggled towards her toes. Despite her best efforts, it pushed distance between her and her footwear, and then forced its way forward between her toes.

Others followed, swelling, almost thrusting into those spaces, forcing her to loosen her grip until the sandals were taken away entirely. She gritted her teeth as her protection was taken, and the AI paused.

"Hmm, what's this?"

The tentacles pulled her up again, holding her arms over her head and her legs far apart. She might as well have been doing the splits in mid-air. Two silver-clad spheres rose from the walls, each of them panning a blue-light scan over her soles as she winced. The AI arched an eyebrow.

"You have a fair number of scars, illegal. I imagine that someone took a great deal of pleasure in punishing you. Or, was it that you took a great deal of pleasure in being punished?"

Tatyana didn't answer. She had covered those scars. Not removed them, because she didn't want to forget what she went through, but she had covered them, encouraged healing that took away most of the signs unless you knew where to look. There were reasons they were there, and she was not planning on forgetting them.

When she didn't answer, the AI shrugged.

"I suppose we'll just have to find out. For now, I'll send you down to the holding cells. They can finish your examination and your processing, and I can get started with this."

One of the tentacles picked up her fallen tablet, holding it so the cracked screen faced her. She narrowed her eyes at Greene as the AI gestured at it.

"It's obviously a newer model than I've seen, but I'm sure that it has the same access codes that the old scientists used to talk about. Once I have my way in, I'll be all up to date again. Unless you want to help me out with that, hmm?" the jackal asked, chuckling. "I'm sure I can bump you up to a worker if you unlock this for me."

The twin insults of her tablet barely being worth the value of a worker position in Volt City and that her intelligence would be so low as to consider such a thing stung. However, Tatyana had long since learned the value of silence. If you could not say what someone wanted to hear, then abrasive action was more likely to send you somewhere that you didn't want to be, inflicted with things that you might not be able to take. Better to let it pass in silence.

"No? Well, I suppose that was to be expected. You probably don't even know how to use it, what with the way you look. Off to processing with you."

The tentacles carried her away. Off to the side of the main door into Volt City was a tube, one that had looked almost like a decorative pillar until she got closer and the front opened. It looked like one of the old pneumatic tubes that sent messages from place to place, except that this one was sized for individuals. Her eyes went wide as a disk was put at the bottom of the opening, followed by her, and a disk over her head.

"...This can't be safe."

The metal cover to the tube slammed shut, and a half-second later, the suction began. Her stomach dropped out and she fell, dragged along by something that made her fall faster than mere gravity could have accounted for. Tatyana swallowed the scream that wanted to come out, bracing herself and closing her eyes. If the tube seal shattered, she'd have more to worry about than the eventual impact.

Thankfully, it didn't. The disk under her feet pushed upwards as they fell, and she realized that there was some sort of counter-thruster under it. It slowed her to a halt, and she was able to open her eyes without worry that the pressure of the tube would suck them out of her sockets.

The darkness remained, but only for a second before the tube opened. Something pushed her from behind, something automated and hard, but she wasn't prepared for it. She stumbled out, hitting the floor as the lights came on. Dim, mostly yellow, and flickering. It felt almost...cinematic, in its own way, like -

"...Oh."

She looked up to find herself behind bars, and as she leaned forward to look down the hall, she could see that it was at the end of a long hallway of similar cells. It looked like something out of an older film, where the cells all had a single keyhole - and the keyholes themselves were archaic, something that had probably gone out of use in the late 19th century - and all the cells consisted of a bed and a toilet. And not all of them had a toilet.

Tatyana narrowed her eyes further, making out two doors at the far end of the hall. One was labeled 'Processing,' while the other was labeled 'Evidence'. She tapped her chin as she stepped back from the bars, sitting on her bed.

Stone-like floor, so very little to make use of there. Metal bars, but weak locks, provided that it's not just an imitation. The doors at the end don't look locked, so...

There were options there. She felt along the metal support beams for her bed, but they were locked to the floor and frame. No breaking that without tools. The mattress was thick enough that she didn't think it would hurt her to lie down, but there were hard points within the mattress, things that left her ill at ease. Possibly things that she could wiggle through the cotton for her own use, but she'd need to get to them first.

All of her best options were at the other end of the hall, however, and that meant that she needed a way out of her cell to get to them. Whatever else happened...

Tatyana took a deep breath. At least the bindings were gone now. It had been...confusing, and annoying, to be thrown back into a kinky memory about them. The sudden reminder, the burst of pleasure that came from it, had not helped her case in the slightest. She needed to focus, not think of...

The tigress slowly ran her hand down the outside of her leg, rubbing her finger against the place where the clamping fingers had rested. She winced, but not from pain. No, she could still almost feel it, the sensation running right from the end of her legs to her -

It was not my fault. They made me enjoy it. They made me...

But the memory was there. The conditioning that she thought that she'd escaped was still there. Who knew what other memories were still buried in her skull that she'd thought she'd gotten away from? She would need to be careful, cautious...

And opportunistic. She took a deep breath as she pulled her hand back from her ankle, crossing her arms under her breasts. The arousal had brought with it a brief spike in clear-thinking, in fast-thought, as she considered it. The experiments that her former overseers had thought 'failed' in her had brought with it increased mental capacity in general, but in her, it went further. It spiked more when she was stimulated in, well, most any direction. The experiment had meant to bring females under the control of those that offered the stimulation they needed, to addict them to it, but she'd managed to keep ahead of it with growing fast-thought that out-paced the stimulation.

It had kept her alive, before, kept her unbroken. She'd need to make sure that she didn't forget that lesson.

While she waited for whatever would be part of the processing, she stood up and looked back at the tube-wall that had deposited her in the cell. It was shimmering and reflective, the one part of the illusion of the dungeon that didn't fit. She stood up, looking at herself properly.

Without her lab coat, all the things that her previous captors had enjoyed were on display. Large breasts that were the bane of her existence - past D, and almost to E cup, with a weight that dragged on her shoulders and required regular shoulder exercise to keep at bay - dominated her chest. Broad shoulders that came from being a tigress helped with that, but not enough on their own.

Her curves ran down to her hips, too. Her stomach had never been one graced with muscle, even after she started her own fitness routine, but it was, at least, mostly flat save for the monthly excess that came when certain food needs struck her. Her hips and rump, on the other hand...

Tatyana winced slightly as she turned. She had started to grow larger since she had escaped the status of 'experiment' and 'subject'. The time that she spent in her chair rather than being tormented and shown off, pushed to extremes, and generally defying death meant that she had stopped putting off weight and started taking it on. Her striped backside pushed out further than she'd like, and she made a mental note to get that seen to. A healthy mind was nothing without a healthy body.

Shaking her head, she could see something of what Ms. Greene had mentioned. She looked...overly-attractive for a scientist. Her body was the sort that was meant to attract the eye rather than the mind, and she could see how it would have given a different...impression.

It did not excuse what had been done to her, but she could see where it had come from, which was the main point.

As she looked away from the reflective wall, she heard a door open. Rushing back to the bars, the naked tigress looked out and down the hall, expecting to see someone from one of the other levels, or failing that, another AI.

Instead, she saw the ugliest, most out of date robot that she had seen in her life. It moved almost like it was afraid it was going to fall over, and its body consisted mostly of a large, dented rectangle that formed a torso and the beginning of a lower body. It had hatches on either side of its 'hips', but what might have once been legs had been lost long ago, left only as stumps. Instead, it carried itself on a single wheel, one that sparked from gaps and slashes along the side.

However, the dangerous parts for her were the arms. Despite being more along the lines of noodle-like constructions, one ended with a clamp-hand, and the other ended with a gun barrel. Her eyes widened as both arms sparked slightly, realizing the danger inherent to the construction of the thing coming her way.

Nobody has repaired it for...months? Years? Perhaps longer. It was inexcusable. Nothing should go without maintenance for more than a month, and most things should receive it more often, particularly with the level of damage she was seeing.

The robot wheeled its way over to her, a screen in the rectangular body coming to life. It displayed a coyote, one that had a cigar in its mouth and looked like it was supposed to be vaguely rotund.

"Well, howdy, pardner," the robot said in what she imagined was supposed to sound like a western sheriff's voice. "Looks like we got our first prisoner in god knows how long. Ain't been right, having all the cells empty, heh."

The robot's voice was as monotone as one could imagine, the epitome of a poor text to speech tool. The accent was there, exaggerated as it was, but the words came out with little to no inflection, almost like someone hadn't bothered putting together something more than a parody of a sheriff. As the robot rubbed the gun barrel at the end of one arm with the mismatched clamp fingers of the other, she saw the sparks spreading further, almost sparking within the barrel itself. The chances of it blowing itself up were only going higher and higher.

"Now, what'd ya get yerself in for, girl? Can't be here for nothing, right?" The coyote's face faded, the screen glitching with a numbered error. " Error. Error. File Retrieval Incomplete. File Retrieval Unsuccessful. Retrying...retrying...retrying...ending attempt." And then the face was back. "Why don't ya tell me what brought ya here?"

The more she saw, the more she wondered if she was offended or angry at what was happening around her. The front door of Volt City had given an entirely inaccurate portrayal of what the interior was like. She had expected something that had been at least partially preserved, something that might be dusty, but at least taken care of. Instead, she was lied to. This prison was being served by a robot that hadn't been serviced in years, who was a danger to itself and anyone around it, and couldn't even access a database?

Another woman might have thought that this would mean she would stand a good chance at escaping. Tatyana was more concerned about the possibilities of the entire Cube blowing itself up before she could get anywhere. The possibility of it falling apart and dropping into the emptiness of the mountain void loomed large in her mind.

"I am not meant to be here. I should be released at once," she said, fighting the urge to cover herself as the coyote-image's eyes panned up and down her body. "Do not look at me like that."

"Hey, just enjoying the goods, girlie, don't gotta get huffy with me. But ain't nobody arrives here without some reason or other. Ya got something to tell me, girlie? Or maybe ya wanna tell it to Mr. Boom here?" the robot asked, twirling its gun arm.

"..."

"Ey, waita sec." The coyote's face disappeared again, a loading bar taking its place. Tatyana crossed her arms in annoyance and concern, and that feeling didn't go away when the coyote's face came back. "Ey, I gotcha now. You're one o' them e-legals, ain't ya?"

She didn't answer. She was too busy trying to figure out if he was going to try and shoot her, or if he was going to blow himself up. Every time that those fingers came closer to his own shredded openings in his arms, she calculated the chance of a random spark finding its way into the gunpowder in whatever bullets he had. It was a math problem that was both distracting and horrifying, particularly as she considered the implications of what would happen to her if the ricochet got bad.

"Well, ain't that a pretty picture, heh. Girlie like you, without no rights or nothing."

"...Mayor Greene said that even an illegal could earn their way up in Volt City."

"Yeah, and ain't she right about that. Hehehe. But ain't much out there for e-legals like yaself."

"I will do what is needed, then."

"Yah, I betcha. But first, we're gonna have ta mark ya, girlie. Ain't right for an e-legal to go 'round Volt City, pretending to be better than she is."

"...Mark me?"

"Yah, we'll get to that in a sec. Got my Deputy on the paperwork already. Gonna need to get on a cavity check, too, come ta think of it. But first..."

She had heard that tone more than once. The security guard that wanted a favor to bring her food. The scientist that wanted to take a little fun before getting to the point of the experiment. The soldier that had offered to get her out if she'd do him this one little favor, and then lied about it.

The rolling robot moved right up to the bars, and as he did, she watched a panel flop open. A thump followed, then another, before a ripped, rubber dildo flopped out of the robot. She winced at the marks that were left on it, old things that looked like former victims had been hurt, and badly.

What in the world...

She knew that the Culture Experiments had been made to show the superiority of Soviet power and ideology, to make a world that exaggerated the flaws of different places and cultures across the world. That was understandable. This was something that took it even further. Even the 'baby-killers' in other experiments hadn't gotten quite this realistic in what they did to those that lived in the Culture Experiments.

Tatyana was starting to understand why she hadn't seen anyone living here. Even apart from the isolationism that Volt City had gone through, it seemed that the AI had done something to their people in the process. Had this always been the case, or had the isolationism gradually caused the programming to lose any and all of its original limitations?

The 'sheriff' lifted his gun arm, pointing it at her before gesturing down to his rubber cock.

"Come 'ere. Show me the gratitude an e-legal like you's got for the chance to work in Volt City."

"Come here and show us why we keep you here, Failure."

Tatyana gritted her teeth as she crawled across her room, the hum of the stun batons and worse hovering over her head. She knew that the slightest hesitation would have her beaten down and then tied up for the breeding scheduled for tomorrow. Right now, she had a bit of freedom because of their understanding of her addiction, and how willing she was to feed it.

It was a mistaken understanding, but one based on facts.

The hyper-stimulation kept her mind in fast-thought, and she registered more things. She heard the chuckle and understood all the implications at once, puzzled out the way that the foxhound was going to fuck her face and then pull out at the last second due to a secondary need to mark her as well as use her. She knew that the buzz-buzz pulse of one of the guards flexing his stun baton meant that he wanted to use it as more than just a weapon of submission. He wanted to see her take it.

And she heard the beep-beep of someone tapping the keys at the door, going for a bathroom break. She heard the beeps, and with her body and mind running hot, she could translate them. She had the keycode.

The tigress opened her mouth, slowly pulling the foxhound's cock between her lips, and she sucked as she burned those keycode numbers into her brain. This would be worth it. This would be worth it.

The tigress looked down at the rod, and then at the robot again. She slowly lowered herself to her knees, reaching for the rubber shaft. It stuck through the bars by some way, an exaggerated tool of a law enforcement officer. The sheriff chuckled in monotone, slowly grinding his gun and hand together.

"That's it, girlie. Take that big dick down yer throat, and show me what an e-legal can do."

There was no point in talking back. She had already seen what she needed to see. Just needed to puzzle it out. She ran her hands along the half-ripped rubber thing, feeling the gaps, the sensors, and - there. The little button-sensor that controlled how this worked. It still had power, still hummed.

The clamp hand pulled her closer, and she gritted her teeth as she felt old flashes, old survival thoughts of how to take this running through her head. Take it, enjoy it, make it work. She could feel her inner walls dampening slightly, and she felt the thrumming through the shaft, the way that it pulsed across those little sensors.

Pulse...pulse...and...there!

As the sheriff pulled his arms back up, resting them against his chest like some cocky superior enjoying a helpless whore, she pressed the button-sensor. The pressure, combined with the timing, sent a 'pleasure' signal through the rod. That, she predicted, would cause a power surge, which in return would boost the sparks from the other arm, and that -

BANG!

The gun-arm went off, and the coyote on the screen faded as the bullet hole left behind completely cracked it. The sheriff stiffened, then tumbled backwards, wheel squeaking slowly as it rolled along its axel.

Tatyana let out a long, slow breath. That dealt with that threat, and with how busted-up the sheriff's body was, she knew that she'd be able to peel pieces off here and there. It was only a matter of time before she had a lockpick. As she stretched her leg out through the bars, dragging his rectangular torso to her, she wondered what she'd find further on...and how long she had before someone came to check on the sheriff.

Regardless, she'd taken her first step towards turning it back to her rules. This might be Volt City, but Volt City was in her lab. One way or another, this was going the way that she chose.

The End

Summary: Tatyana is captured, but despite going through hell-memories, she plans on getting out soon. It's just a matter of how.
