YOU'RE... SOMEONE ELSE - https://www.sofurry.com/view/1723005

[I THINK I'VE HAD ENOUGH FOR NOW]

Leo: I'd really rather just... talk. To you.

He's smiling, but if I squint I can see the blank expression through the smile.

Chase: Allright Leo.

Leo: Chase, I still love you.

Leo: I can't imagine anything hurting more than losing you did.

Leo: Than it still does.

Leo: And this? Whatever and wherever this is? Getting to just... be with you, with him. It's good. It's so good it hurts.

Leo: But...

I have to swallow hard to go on.

Leo: But you're... not Chase.

He's shocked for a heartbeat. Then he's just upset.

Leo: You're not my otter.

Leo: Are you?

It's genuinely hard to look at him. It's like looking at the pages of a flipbook on him flashing through different hurt, angry, frightened expressions. Pretty soon it's just different versions of the blank look.

He looks at me for a long time.

Chase: I mean...

For half a second I'd swear he's about to attack me.

Chase: I could be.

Chase: If you want me to.

His shape stops changing. He's back, but his clothes are different. White shirt, rolled up sleeves. Tan suspenders. Brown pants.

Leo: I... don't know what that means.

Chase: What do you think it means?

[THIS IS A DREAM]

[YOU'RE... SOMEONE ELSE]

(my head...)

[MY HEAD...] Leo: Chase, did something happen to you? Chase: What do you mean? My head is pounding. Leo: Please... just, reassure me. Tell me that you... being here... doesn't mean you're... dead. Chase: Leo. Chase: I promise, me being here...

(something... spicy)

[SOMETHING... SPICY] He gives me a look that makes my ears burn and my pants feel a couple sizes too small as he pours something crystal clear. Gold and bright red speckles swirl in it before settling to the bottom. Leo: And where's this one taking...

(something light?)

[SOMETHING LIGHT] He sets something amber and fizzy in front of me. I pick it up. Leo: Smells like... ginger ale? Chase: Like you said, it's light. Let's see where this one takes me, then. There's a picnic table laid out in Chase's parents' yard....
