UNEXPECTED MEETING
Here I was again, trapped in a hopeless situation because I let someone get to close and they ended up lying to me. Though this time it proved to be the worst consequence to date, and it was turning fatal. Pushing against the walls of my 'Prison', I tried for the umpteenth time to get out, but all my efforts were for not. The walls of my prison would give as much as they would take, but there was no hope that they would give any more than a slight bit or tare open.
My cell began to secrete some kind of slimy like substance that I could feel was slowly beginning to dissolve my skin. "You lied to me. Me!" I shouted as I punched/kicked/etc at the walls, only to have my efforts glance off like a boxer hitting a well greased punching bag.
'Think not of it as a lie, more like...bending the truth. It was you that did not stipulate the full details of our arrangement.' I heard a voice say in the back of my mind, that ended in a bit of a chuckle.
I punched the walls again in frustration as the goop from the walls began to fill up to my thighs. "I agreed to help you with your problem. Not 'be' the solution!" I said as I tried to stretch out from my fetal position, only to find that when I did, that the top of my prison would come pressing down on my head and bend me back into the fetal position.
'That is where you made your flaw human. You did not specify enough the terms of the help. So I was just, filling the gaps. The gaps that I saw fit to fill with my own ideas on how you can help us.' There was another set of chuckles as the goop had now reached up to my chest.
I was about to protest further, but the air within my 'Prison' was starting to get thin. Fear started to grip me as I realized that all the oxygen within the 'Prison' had turned to carbon monoxide, from not having my exhaling breath filtered. My head began to swim as my oxygen starved lungs started to convulse and breath in more of the toxic air. The goop had now reached my chin as just as I took the last breath of the toxic air, my life flashed back to when this had all happened.
(Three months, to date)
"I still can't believe that I'm going to meet a 'real' legendary Pokemon." I said with glee as the Pokemon before me nodded it's head. Forgive me, my names Tristan and I'm a Pokemon trainer. I've been traveling around the world for quite some time. Mostly trying to find the perfect place to start a Pokemon career and take on the league there. My travels finally deposited me in the Hoan region. Throughout my travels I'd seen many amazing wonders but none could compare to the one of meeting a Latias.
I had stumbled upon her in an unusual way. Over the coarse of a year, I had the strangest feeling of being watched. No matter what I did or where I went, I always felt like something/someone was watching me, but when I would turn around...nothing. Continuing on my career of being a Pokemon trainer, I eventually decided that enough was enough and threw a spare Pokeball behind me in hopes of scaring off whatever was following me and heard it hit something. When I turned around to see what my ball had hit, I saw that the capture process had begun and the ball was shaking lightly on the ground.
The creature inside the ball must have been just as surprised as I was, as a moment later the ball pinged and the red activator turned slowly from red to white. I was so shocked and confused at the sight that I just stared at the ball for about 15 minuets. Finally my Swellow that had been sitting on my shoulder flew down to the ball and pecked at the activator, effectively releasing the newly added member to my team. Once the light escaped from the ball, I was in for the next biggest shock as it solidified into that of a Latias.
The thing looked around for quite a while until it finally stopped freaking out and looked directly at me. Tears started to leak down it's eyes as it lost it's ability to stay afloat and landed in the soft sand of the beach that we were spending the night at. My heart went out to the startled Pokemon as it must have realized it's predicament and broken down and cried due to having it's freedom taken from it.
I quickly went over and hugged the poor shaking Pokemon. "I'm so sorry. I just thought that there was something following me and threw that ball behind me to scare it off. I didn't have any intention of capturing the thin...Pokemon that was following me." Though now it all made perfect sense. A Latias can change it's feather so that the light bends around it, effectively making it's body invisible or giving off the appearance of something/someone else. Though the real question was, 'Why was a Latias following me?'
The Latias was startled once again at she jerked back a bit as I started to stroke the back of her neck. The feeling from doing this to her must have calmed her down a bit as she started to lean into my gentle caresses. Eventually the sobs turned into soft coos and eventually gentle trills of peace/contentment. She only stopped trilling when I stopped stroking her back and held her at arms length.
"Again, I'm sorry Latias. If you want me to, I'll release you right now and you can be on your way. Though, in order to make up for capturing you, I'll gladly share a meal with you." To which the Latias happily let out a trill and nodded with enthusiasm. After a hearty meal that the three of us shared, I finally went back to where I'd captured the Latias and picked up her ball. Looking down at it, I was still amazed that a normal Pokeball had actually succeeded in capturing the Latias (Author: Ever tried to capture one in the game with a regular Pokeball? Damn impossible no matter what you try. Even getting it down to 1HP, putting the damn thing to sleep, and dropping it's defenses to nearly nothing.)
Walking back to the campsite I sat back down on the fold out beach chair and twirled the ball around in my palm. The Latias was still eating it's meal and enjoying every bite of the food that I'd provided. Once she was finished, she raised up her head and licked her lips with a happy grin. She saw that I was sitting down and in a happy way floated on over and lay her head down in my lap, where she began to croon. I lay my hand down upon her silken feathers and rubbed them down from the back of the head down to the tips of the wings. With each pass, the crooning became a little louder, but still retained the happy croon like sounds. It got especially loud when I scratched behind her right white ear.
Eventually I stopped petting/scratching that area and she looked up at me. "Again Latias, I'm sorry. I hope that you enjoyed your meal with the two of us, but I think that it's time for me to set you free." The Latias let out a little sad note but kept her head in my lap. "It's probably for the best anyways. I never intended to capture you, and you deserve to be free." So aiming the ball down at her, I held down the release button and it made a clicking sound. A few seconds later I released my finger on the ball and a blue like beam shot out and engulfed the Latias.
The beam didn't recall the Latias to the ball itself, rather it covered her in it's soft blue color until the registration of the Latias was removed from my team. Once the registration was removed the light quickly faded and the ball's center turned black. The black color signified that the occupant was either deceased or released, but in any-case it meant that the ball was dead and couldn't be used again.
The Latias looked up again at me, then looked over at the ball. Raising up a clawed appendage, she lightly touched it and it fell out of my grasp. The ball fell to the log, only to bounce off it, and land neatly in the heart of the warm fire that I'd started earlier. She let out a strange squeak then reached towards the flames, to which I was shocked at first but quickly reached out and grabbed her arm to prevent her from getting burned. She looked up at me with the most pleading eyes I'd ever seen, then back down at the slowly blackening Pokeball.
"Don't worry about that ball Latias. It has absolutely no connection to you now." I sat up while giving her a nice long hug. "Though you may have been caught by accident, I'm still glad that I met you. It's not every day that you get to meet such a rare and beautiful Pokemon such as yourself. Now, off you go." I said as I brought her to arms length again with my hands resting under her arms, only toss her up into the air. She hovered there at the peak of being tossed then quickly flew back down so that she was level with me again. She just stared at me for a while until she finally had enough and flew in for a hug.
I repeated the process for a second and third time only to have her fly back into me and give me a hug and rub her head into my chest. It was on the third or fourth time that I was starting to get annoyed and started flinging her higher, to which she started to let out some kinds trills and shrills of glee. She was actually enjoying this, almost like she thought that this was some kind of game. "What's the matter Latias? I thought that you wanted to be free. Do you want to stay with me?" I asked.
She flew back into my chest and happy started to croon and rub her head into my chest. This time I pulled out an empty Pokeball and held it out. "If you want to..." I didn't get the chance to finish what I was going to say as she reached to the ball and touched her clawed hand and touched the activator with the tip of her claw. The ball snapped open with a click, Latias turned into a white light, and then disappeared into the ball. This time the ball didn't sake, the center button didn't blink red, it just pinged signifying that she'd been caught again and this time without a fight to get free.
That strange event had been over two and a half months ago. Now, Latias was a very active member of my team, though unlike the rest, she always stayed at my side and outside of her ball. She just seemed happy to nuzzle up to me and give me a random hug every now and then. It was pretty nice back then, until one day she began to become very agitated with something and kept on looking towards the sea. I would often catch her looking out there when she thought I wasn't looking and often times I would find her reaching out towards it.
Finally I had enough of this and decided to play twenty questions with her to find that the reason why she was doing this. Eventually I came to the conclusion that there was a legendary out at sea that was calling out to other legendary or very rare Pokemon for aid. She went on to say that she was drawn to the call but couldn't go out to meet the legendary due to being captured by me. Once again I offered to release her to do as she wished and heed the call for aid from the legendary, but she quickly shook her head and latched onto me like she was afraid of loosing me. After another day of 'talking/asking' I settled onto the idea of going on a small trip to see this, 'Legendary' and find out what it was so upset about.
Unfortunately the whole thing was doomed to fail, just as I set foot in the water. It turns out that she left out a vital detail, the place that we needed to go was way out at sea. In other-words, how was I supposed to get out there? Latias thought that she could carry me out there, but not being used to carrying me around as a flying transport in the past, she just ended up with her carrying me a little farther out into the water, then dropping me into the sea once her arms gave out from the strain. This went on for a while until I'd had enough and waved off another pleading attempt. "There's got to be an easier way for us to get out there, without you dropping me every time your arms get too tired."
Traveling back to shore after another failed attempt, ended with me sitting on the sandy beach and looking out to sea to try and figure this problem out. Half an hour later found the two of us with our answer. A girl came whizzing past on what looked to be a floating platform being pulled behind a Wailmer. The platform looked like a teacup and she was holding onto a rope like that of a water skier. We both watched for a bit until she came to a stop near a seaside shack a little farther down the beech from where we were sitting. With a quick nod to each other, we headed over to the shack. Once we'd gotten on over to the shack it definitely fit the name. Most of the wood looked pretty beaten down by the sea's unforgiving mercy and looked very well beaten down by it. Though the exterior of the place looked bad, the interior of it looked the exact opposite. When we got a chance to finally get to the front of the line and asked the manager about that, he claimed that it was to fool all the other people around to not steal his merchandise. Though after some negotiations and an exchange of a few hundred Poke-Dollars, we were now the proud renters of this new water craft.
I still can't believe how many times I lost my balance when she would turn to sharply to avoid a Pokemon in the water, or when I would get lost in the sights. "Well, isn't this just great. Now all my cloths are officially soaked and are going to cling to me the entire way. Whenever we get to this place Latias, I'm going to have to lay them all out so that they can dry." She then came on over and gave me a nuzzle and an apologetic croon to say that she was sorry. Though once we had gotten in sync with each others quirks, we really took off. This seemed to thrill her to no end as every once in a while she would turn back to gaze at me, then let out a happy squeal when I would smile back to her and give her a thumbs up.
Over the long trip out at sea, we stopped several times to either rest and/or eat. I would sit upon the water craft with my legs crossed, open up a hatch that was hidden in the floor of it to it's storage compartment, pull out a can of Pokemon chow for Latias who ate it happily while sitting next to me, and I'd eat a granola bar and a few pieces of fruit. Once we'd eaten we'd be off again and skipping the waves as we sped along.
By the end of the day we'd finally reached our destination as the two of us sat a little off shore and looked at the sight of the place that was calling out to Latias. It looked very similar to just another regular island but had a mountain that had plateau covered in snow. I was a little curious about all of this, but Latias seemed very happy that we'd arrived, which told me that this was indeed the place. She pulled my platform up to the front of the beech and essentially me with it as she had been so excited to be here that she beached the platform and yanked me off of it. I landed on the beech face first and skidded quite a ways up the beech. Just then I felt a pair of claws grab me from under my arms, then yank me out of my hole in the sand. After sputtering out a shoe full of sand out of my mouth, I looked over to see Latias as she had a embarrassed look on her face.
After I'd spit up most of my 'sand' sandwich, I slowly began to stand. "So this is where you felt the call from?" I asked the air, only to have Latias float up and nod to me as she hovered there at my side and gave me a nod. "So somewhere on this island is a legendary Pokemon in need of help?" I said rhetorically, then started to shake in excitement. "I can't believe it. I'm really going to me meet a another legendary Pokemon. This has got to be the most exciting day since...since...since I met you Latias." I said to her as her eyes went wide and she quickly flew around and I pulled her into a deep hug, which she returned along with a happy trill and a lick to my cheek.
After our hug we entered the island's vegetation and began to walk about. Seeing as I had no idea where we were going I slowed my pace so that Latias was leading. This confused her a bit, but when I motioned for her to continue onward she nodded and began to float/levitate in a b-line for the center of the island. The island was pretty much like any other in the sense of islands. Much of the vegetation was that of tropical plants and trees but something about this place made me feel like I wasn't supposed to be here or that I was the first actual person to step foot upon this place.
Eventually we stopped at the base of the mountain and she began to slowly look up the rocky face. After her gaze was caught by something higher up, she slowly looked at me through the corner of her eye and pointed up. "Let me guess. The thing that is calling is up there somewhere and I need to climb up there to see it." Latias gave a slow and sort of apologetic shrill and lowered her head. Walking a little further up so that the two of us stood side by side once more, I ran my hand down her body and began to pet her. "It's alright Latias. I didn't expect you to have to carry me up there. I'll climb it myself." This seemed to take some of the worry out of her eyes as she nodded to me and looked back up towards our destination.
I didn't know how stupid I really was. Hiking was one thing, but if you've ever started out from scratch to rock climb...it's a whole new ballpark. Normally you use just your legs to walk, but to climb a rock walls face, you use it all. 'No wonder those guys stay so fit. This is exhausting.' I thought as I reached up and took another hand hold and pulled myself up as well as use my legs to push me up. It took me another hour or two to finally get to a spot where I could rest for a while, then began again with my climb as Latias stayed with me the whole way up to make sure that she kept an eye on me and lend me a helping hand whenever I needed it.
