The Power of Pain

Part 4

For Catsithx

By Draconicon

Though he was ostensibly on the side of the demons now rather than the side of the angels, Kain found himself caring less and less about throwing his lot over the moral line. The fact that Bast had saved his life and was working to give him the revenge that he desired meant a great deal when the other gods would have left him to die from something that wasn't even his fault. The fact that she was still there, the fact that she had given him Maeve to replace everything that he had been getting and more from Cerise, was an even better inducement to remain on her side and give her even more.

Even now, as Maeve led him from their pleasure rooms, he felt different, better than he had when he had been a mere thief in the party. His body had grown over the course of the lovemaking he'd been doing with the sergal, and far more than simple exercise would have accounted for. While he was not the mountain of muscle that some of the men he'd seen were, he was no longer dwarfed under his slender frame, either. He was no longer someone that would pale before someone like Nigel. Kain could have stood toe to toe with the Doberman, now, and he would have looked as muscular. Perhaps slightly more, as a matter of fact.

Of course, that meant that he had nothing left that fit him, his leathers no longer suitable for him, and there was nothing in the way of robes for him to wear. He blushed slightly as he was led by the hand through the caverns, naked as the day he was born, his sheath bobbing and his balls bouncing slightly as he walked along. The feeling of the cool air on his fur was a nice sensation, though, and cooled some of that rampaging libido.

That, too, had been growing through his time in the caverns, and it was something else that he didn't know how to explain. Yes, he'd always been amorous, but this was something different. It was like it was hard for him to think of anything but fucking, rutting, breeding other people. He was amazed that Maeve hadn't taken pregnant yet, even though they'd only been fucking for...

For...

Kain blinked, pausing in mid-step. Maeve looked back at him, the green and gray sergal cocking her head to the side.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"I just realized something."

"Oh? And what's that?"

"I don't know how long I've been here."

"Oh, is that all? Six months, dear."

"Six months?!"

His eyes went wide as he stared at her, his mouth hanging open as he shook his head. As his heart pounded away in his chest, Maeve leaned in, gently caressing his chin.

"It's been some time, dear. Don't worry. Everything is okay."

"N-no, no it's not. What...why..."

"Did you think that we'd move so quickly as to do all this in just a few days?" she asked, stroking her hand down his chest. "This took time...you...and our conquest..."

"Conquest?"

"You'll understand. We're going down to the altar, and you will see there."

"But...but six months?"

The sergal smiled, kissing his cheek. "I'm very good at what I do, hon."

That was more than obvious, but that wasn't what he was concerned about. Where had six months gone when they were fucking? How did he forget the world that thoroughly that it hadn't even felt like a few days when they were in there? What had happened to him that he had been so sucked into fucking and rutting that he hadn't even thought about what was going on to those that he had seen in his adventures, those that he had...had...

Kain slowly shook his head as he was led along by the hand again. The memories of the old world, the old way of life, were faded. He remembered a few different innkeepers of places where he and the rest of the group had stayed, and he remembered a few old wise women that had governed different villages that they had saved. Yet, for all that he had risked his life many times, he couldn't remember much else. It was like it had been erased from his mind.

What is going on here?

He didn't know, and he doubted that he was going to get an answer. Not from Maeve, at least.

They walked through many tunnels under the mine, eventually emerging in the lower parts where the altar was. He looked out across the open chamber, and his eyes widened yet again.

It had changed from the empty, blank chamber of black stone that he remembered from when he'd woken from his wounds. Instead of the black rock that was featureless and strange, with an altar at the far end, the altar had somehow moved to the center of the chamber. Around it, kneeling before it, were no less than a hundred different cultists, all wearing the black and gold robes of Bast, all of them bowing before the great altar. Most of them were feline, but here and there he saw a badger or an otter. They were all bowed before the altar, though, and all of them whispered prayers.

It was the glowing circle above the altar, though, that held his attention. He pointed at it, and Maeve nodded, wordlessly leading him up a spiral that had been cut into the walls. Whether it was new or he simply hadn't noticed it the first time, he didn't know, but he was content to be led.

When they were above the circle, he realized that it was a map of the world. Blue for water, green for land, with other colors to mark where the different factions of the world were. His eyes flicked over it, finding where they were. The mountain mining village where it had all gone wrong was on the southern continent, the only one of the four different continents that existed mostly below the equator. The village itself was somewhere near the northern tip of the continent, right where it was connected by a narrow isthmus to a continent to the north.

He found it, and saw that it was surrounded by a gold light that was overlaid on the map. That same gold light spread throughout the entirety of the southern continent, running over hundreds of miles and no less than fifty cities and innumerable towns. Kain breathed shallowly, not sure what he was seeing, but having a good guess.

"Is that...is that all Bast's territory, now?"

"That's right, my dear. That's what the goddess owns."

"And the rest..."

"Will eventually fall."

"She's conquering the world."

"She's a goddess, my dear. Did you expect something small?"

He didn't, but it was one thing to know that he had unleashed a conqueror, but entirely something different to see it. The other parts of the map, on the three northern continents, showed different colors for different kingdoms. Most of them were far off, well away from the conflict that was brewing between the connected continents, but he could see ships on the seas that were slowly on the move, and a few dragons in the air.

"They won't reach the northern continent in time to shape the war," Maeve said. "The northern lands are already in retreat. See?"

Kain nodded. The gold had already crossed the isthmus, secured a passage for the armies of Bast to move northwards. He could see that there were other symbols in the gold that ran from the top of the southern continent to the bottom of the southern one. Symbols that looked almost...familiar...

He pointed towards a half-curved sword that was on the move along the northern front of the gold lands. It seemed to dart about, almost like it was teleporting from place to place.

"Is that...Bellatrix?"

"No. Tatsuo, actually."

The relief that they hadn't resurrected someone was overshadowed by the fact that the other dragoness had taken up the demon-hunter sword of her fallen partner. The way that it was going, it was clear that she was being flung hither and yon by her mistress, made to fight against the forces in the north.

Other symbols, from a holy sigil for Cerise and a simple pair of crossed swords for Nigel, could be seen at the edge of the conflict, inhabiting a city that the golden light was gradually approaching. He imagined that his old 'friends' were leading the resistance against the cultists, trying to throw them back at the fortress-city that they were approaching.

In other times, he could see that happening. They were coming up on the Southern Fangs, the twin fortresses that watched over the start of the great plains at the edge of the isthmus. Bast might have secured the land bridge, but she still needed to get that foothold on the other side to maintain an easy crossing.

The Southern Fangs, he remembered, both had the great advantage of height and chokepoints. They had archer towers across the plains, and there was no easy way to penetrate that wall. It was a shooting gallery, just waiting to rain hell down on anyone that tried to sneak through. They had seen it before coming south, and the only way around it without engaging was via a large fleet, something that he knew that the Bastian cultists didn't have. Or at least, that they hadn't had. Things might have changed.

The fight seemed to be flowing forward and back, with Tatsuo pushing at the lines of the non-believers, non-worshipers, and then getting pushed back when someone else came down against her. The lines were spread thin, both sides waiting for the other to make a mistake and leave a fatal opening.

"What happens when she takes the Fangs?" he asked.

"Then it will be time to regroup, to gather strength before pushing forward. Once we have that, they can't just dislodge us from the continent."

"They could send ships around, attack us on the coast."

"They could, but look."

She gestured down the map. The southern continent had long coastlines, yes, but the more that he looked, the more he realized that there were few port cities, and the ones that did pepper the coast were on the extreme south, and well-fortified. Any other place where landing might be accomplished would give the invaders a very small area to actually land before they were forced to cross thick mountains on one side, or cross deserts on the other.

There was no clear invasion point. They were safe from any initial invasions, at the very least.

Kain rubbed his head as he looked at the map, realizing again just how much things had changed. The power of Bast had made a massive difference to the power of her cultists, and the confidence and bravery that they had. Just six months ago, they would never have dared gather in numbers like this, even here in a cave where they were supposedly safe from the outside world. The chance of being found went up when they had greater numbers in one place, and it made them easier to stamp out.

Now, they not only fearlessly gathered around an altar to their goddess, but they had taken over a whole continent. In six months, an entire continent, fifty cities - and large ones, at that - had fallen to the power of a goddess that had been banished from the pantheon proper. Six months should not have brought that many changes, but it had.

He jumped as he felt Maeve's hand on his balls, gently rolling them against her palm. Turning to her, he opened his mouth, only to have her gently press a finger against his lips, silencing him.

"It's alright."

"...I don't know if it is."

"Why?"

"I...I just wanted..."

"Revenge?"

"..." He nodded.

"You're getting that. But what's wrong with taking things a little further?"

"She was cast out. She...she was supposed to be..."

"Evil?"

He nodded again.

"That's what everyone says about a god that goes rogue. Sometimes, however, you go rogue for the right reasons. And even if she does pursue a goal of feline supremacy, of a version of slavery for the other species...Well..." She looked down at the crowd. "Is it really slavery if you get what you want?"

There was something to her voice then, something not quite regretful, not quite satisfied, and he wondered if she was talking about the badgers down there or something else. He wondered, deep down, if she was trying to tell him something and he just wasn't getting it at that moment.

The time for that consideration passed. The map faded, and in its place was a great golden light that pulsed in the air above the altar. Maeve shifted from rubbing his balls to taking his hand again.

"She's here. It's time."

"Time for what?"

"For your submission."

His submission to Bast. Maeve had mentioned that, said that it was required if he wanted to get everything that he wanted out of this. He'd been promised his revenge, and that should have been enough, but now that he'd tasted what devotion was like from Maeve, some part of him wanted more. Not just revenge, but satisfaction. Not just pleasure, but something akin to worship.

He wanted to be the king that she had said he could be. He wanted to be the stud that she had called him.

Led across the cavern, he tried not to blush as he walked past felines and badgers and otters as naked as he was. They sometimes looked up at him, glancing at his body, and then looked back at the floor. They would look at his cock, and then blush and look away, but he could smell the air thickening with the scent of aroused pussy.

That was secondary, however, to the sight of the golden light that was manifesting over the altar. He kept his eyes on that, knowing that Bast would be looking down at him when she appeared, and knowing further that she would be expecting attention. He might be the stud, but she was the one that ruled this place.

The light glowed once more, then was bound by the darkness of the chamber. It was as if the rock walls came in, collapsing around the light and forming a body for it to inhabit. She appeared again, black fur surrounded by spiraling golden bands, naked as she had been the last time that he had seen her. Small, bare breasts ended in soft pink nipples with piercings of gold through them, and her legs were long and smooth.

She floated down to hover over the altar, her arms outstretched, her lips lifted by a small smile. Gesturing welcomingly at him, she pulled him to the altar, inviting him to stand beside her.

Kain did as he was invited, pulling himself up and standing beside the goddess. He tried to meet her eyes, but the glowing gold light made him look away. There was power there beyond anything mortals could match, not even Cerise, he felt. She patted his arm, and he felt the heat of suns through his fur.

"You come to me today...to make an offering, yes?" she asked.

"Yes."

"And what do you want for your offering?"

"Maeve told me...that I could be a king. A stud. A...a male deserving of worship."

"You would be a demi-god under me?"

A demi-god. He hadn't even thought of it that way, but the more that he considered it, the more that he liked the idea. Not merely being someone that sat in a chamber in her temple to be worshiped in his own way, but someone that was powerful in their own right. Someone blessed by her power. Someone that might...

That might be worthy of more. He nodded, bowing his head.

"I will require much of you, Kain. If you want this, I will make you worthy of that power, but you will work for it."

"I would have it no other way, Bast."

"Then kneel."

He went to his knees as he was asked, his legs folding under him. The light of the goddess poured over him, warm and calming, and she rested her hand on his hand. It was more than just a physical touch. There was something to it that rushed through him, that made him feel as though he was being graced by something more than human.

He supposed he was. Just not something good.

"Do you foreswear the pantheon of gods?"

"I do."

"Do you swear against them, to nevermore seek their aid, to see the world not as they have preached, but as it truly is?"

"I so swear."

"Do you swear to give yourself unto me, to become my servant, to shed the mere label of 'feline' and become a Bastian Being?"

"I...so...swear."

With each promise, he felt something giving way inside of him, something that was key to his being. It was as if he was shedding layers of himself, getting rid of old junk and leaving behind only that which was good. He felt almost like the gold light that warmed the room was settling into his body, taking up residence and warming him in return.

"Do you swear to protect all felines, to hold the sanctity of all Bastian Beings above others?"

"I swear."

"Do you swear to protect and breed all females among the Bastian Beings, to become the breeder of our way of life?"

"I swear."

"Do you swear your soul to me, to belong to the goddess Bast for all eternity, to be subject to her whims, to be her demi-god and servant, to never take another for your mistress for as long as you exist?"

"I swear."

"Then be blessed, Kain, and receive my power."

She pressed both of her hands to his shoulders, and he felt the surge of strength come through. Kain gasped, arching his back as the power of a goddess was forced through him, filling him up from the bottom of his toes all the way to the top of his head. The world turned from black to gold, and then to nothing but brightness. He felt like he was filled to bursting with whatever the light was, as if it was shining through his eyes, his ears, through his fingertips, everywhere that the light could go to try and escape.

For nearly a minute, he felt like he was on the verge of exploding, like he would burst from the empowering light of the goddess. He screamed as he was transformed, enlightened, and ascended.

Then, finally, it was done. Bast's hands were withdrawn, and he slumped forward, going from kneeling to being on all fours. His breath came in harsh puffs and huffs, and he was barely able to hold himself upright. His eyes were half-closed, his breathing ragged.

At the same time, he felt the power in him. He felt the strength and command that came from a goddess. He felt the stamina that Maeve had been training into him growing, rushing forward by leaps and bounds, and he could feel a churning between his legs. Almost as if he had taken the drugs of the far south, where they partook in different substances before their pleasures, his balls felt like they were in desperate need of emptying. He could hardly hold out against that, and he growled as he thrust his hips forward, his cock rising from his sheath.

Whipping his head around, he looked at the crowd. His eyes flicked from one feline to another, eventually spotting a tigress. She was naked as were all the others, her large breasts, wide hips, and soft femininity fully on display. She'd been watching the ritual just like all the others, but she had no sign of arousal.

Not until he laid eyes on her, at least. Then, her eyes widened, and she gasped, her eyes flickering with gold light as he stared at her. She stood up, her legs spreading, her breath coming faster and faster. He had barely made eye contact with her, but her pussy was soon soaked, wet as could be and dripping down her legs. There was no hiding the heat that had taken her, the need that filled her. She was panting for it, thrusting her hips the longer that he stared at her.

Kain couldn't look away. He wasn't even aware of using any power, but it was as if his gaze alone brought this female pleasure. She was red in the face, her cheeks burning with a blush, but her hands stayed at her side. Her hips twitched, her breast shook slightly, and her pussy drooled more and more until -

"AAAH!"

She screamed as she came on the spot, the tigress squirting slightly onto the stone floor. Arching her back where she stood, she almost fell over, and Kain wondered if she would have if she wasn't locked in place by his stare.

As she came down from that orgasm, she slowly walked toward him, making her way through the crowd. She dripped as she did, walking with a shambling need, almost like she was ensorcelled, charmed to him.

"How...what..."

"She is yours," Maeve said, appearing beside him. "It is a gift of the goddess. Any feline that you look upon is yours, yours to breed, yours to claim. She will serve you with all eagerness, for you have become all that she ever wanted. Only Bast will be superior to you in her mind."

"Is this just for the cult?" he whispered.

"No. It is for every feline in this world."

"Not every female? Just every feline?"

"Heh, perhaps. One day. It will depend on how strong Bast becomes."

Kain nodded, unable to take his eyes off the tigress as she approached, his throat dry, but his cock as confident as he needed to be. He opened his arms for her as she approached, didn't fight it as she straddled him, grinding her slippery sex against his cock. There was no shame to this, no embarrassment, and in that moment, he realized just how far he had submitted to Bast. She had taken his soul, and with it, she had taken many of his inhibitions, many of the little things that would have slowed him down or made him question what he was doing.

There was none of that now. There was just the pleasure of the tigress as he pulled her down onto his cock. Maeve stroked his head, gently pulling him back to rest his head against her breasts, and he groaned under his breath as he felt the warmth of her body against his. The tigress sandwiched him against her, her breasts against his chest, then his head, then his chest again as she rode his cock.

There were others in the crowd that were starting to stare at him and the females. They would want a turn, either from seeing him do this or when he looked down at them. He might have cared about the difference between the two, once. Not anymore.

I'm a demi-god. I deserve this. He looked past the tigress, seeing an otter. Despite not being feline, she looked eager for his touch. He looked to the right, and he saw a tabby cat, one who looked as if she had just come of age. A glance, and she started grinding against the air. I deserve this after what was taken from me.

One moment the fight was going their way, and the next, it most certainly was not.

Nigel was among the lucky ones that were far enough back from the gate to avoid the shrapnel that came flying from it when it exploded, but more than a hundred soldiers perished in that first moment. Wood shards and stone splinters shredded anyone that happened to be in the way, and the dead bodies were cushions for those that came through, providing a grip to the deadly claws of the felines that were fighting them.

The Doberman met them, blade on blade, holding his own as he retreated from the courtyard of the Right Fang. He shouted for the army to retreat, to pull back to the Gate Stones and get out. Most heard him. Those that didn't, well, they didn't get far.

He fell back, retreating through the streets as fast as his legs would carry him. Every time that a feline charged him, he barely managed to get his blade up, catching their claws - stupidly strong ones, at that, refusing to break on steel - and then pushing them back. Some were wounded, some were merely knocked out, but none died.

What's wrong with them? he thought, looking down at the waves of cats. He looked down at his swords. You've cut stone, but you can't cut claws?

The battle had been in their favor. They'd been pushing back against the waves of cultists that had come out of the south, most of them barely dressed in more than savage paint and leather. The archers had been cutting them down in droves, and when that failed, the defenses had held strong, even against their wild magics. It had looked like it would force a siege, and considering the Gate Stones in the Fangs, they could have endured that with ease.

But then something had happened. Something had come down on the enemy armies, a golden glow that pulsed with something both deific and otherwise, almost like they had gained some sort of reinforcement. Once that happened, the wild mages had come together and blown the gate of the Right Fang in.

BOOM!

And the distant explosion made it sound like the Left Fang had received similar treatment. The walls were breached, and now the numbers of the enemy army could be brought to bear.

Another surge of felines, another desperate clash to keep from being overwhelmed. Nigel was forced back, using both blades to keep them at bay and barely managing it. It didn't even feel like fighting mortals anymore. It felt like he was fighting some sort of cursed being, regenerating from every blow only to get up stronger and faster than they had been the first time.

"Nigel!"

The Doberman looked over his shoulder. Cerise was fighting her own battles in an adjacent street, flinging her hands forward again and again and fending off the horde of felines attacking her. The hybrid dragon-fox was barely keeping ahead of them.

"Nigel, help me!" she begged.

He shook his head. There was too much for him to handle here. If he turned his back, he'd be cut down immediately.

"Nigel!"

"Fuck it, help yourself!"

One of the felines jumped in the air, leaping further than any mortal being ever should have been able to do. It cleared the rooftops, landed on it, and ran around him. The Doberman cursed under his breath, spinning his blades to give himself room before fleeing from the street.

Fast, faster, fastest, he thought, pumping his legs as hard as he could as he ran. He heard Cerise screaming as she cast her spells, the felines swinging from his road to hers. Better find a way out of that, girl. I can't help you.

With a moment to breathe, he shook his head. He couldn't believe Cerise would be stupid enough to ask him to sacrifice himself there. Sure, she was a good spellcaster, but he was the team leader. He couldn't just give himself up just so that she might make it to the Gate Stones. If she didn't make it, it would be one lost caster to the army. Admittedly, the most powerful one, but it was better than losing the over-general.

Even if she did help him get rid of Kain...even if she was a good lay...

He shook his head. They'd gotten together one time when Kain had been wounded, when he was looking like he might not pull through. He'd always had a bit of a thing for the hybrid, thought that she might need some comforting. It turned out that she liked it when he treated her a little like a bitch when they went past comforting to 'comforting,' and he'd kept that up, the pair of them meeting in secret. She took her confidence from Kain's simplistic, servile self, and got what she really needed from him. They thought that it'd be simplicity itself to just cut him out and make it a better, stronger relationship with just the two of them.

They'd been wrong. Very wrong.

They'd barely been together a month when things started to fall apart. Cerise started to get all clingy in a way that she'd never been before, sneaking over to his room when they were still supposed to be planning things, withdrawing into her books for study, doing things that made no sense and weren't sexy at all. She started to flinch away from their darker play, and she started to wince every time that he started to call her names when she used to moan from it.

All in all, he was starting to think that he'd made a mistake, and by the time that he reached the Gate Stones, he half-hoped that she'd died in the fight.

No luck there, unfortunately. She showed up a half-minute after he did, her body moving in a blur. She must have managed to cast a speed spell on herself and get away from the horde. They were both in line for different Gate Stones, both bound to the same location. Their eyes met across the way. She looked at him, shocked and hurt, and he looked at her with resignation.

Another explosion rocked the square, and the mages that manned the Stones kept pushing people through. One after another, they were warped away from the combat zone. Officers first, of course, and then adventurers. Nigel was both, and was soon at the head of the line.

"To the capital?" the gatekeeper asked.

"Yes."

"Hand on the Stone."

The Doberman pressed his fingers to the rock, and he felt the warmth of the magic pouring through. His hand turned transparent, and he felt himself getting dragged through the warp, pulled through into a different location. Already his hand had gone from warm to cold, the capital sheathed in night in the distance, and far colder than this desolate place.

He looked across the way, spotted Cerise doing the same thing. Her tails were flagging, she was shaking, and she was clearly rattled beyond belief.

She's going to be a liability, he thought. What happened to her? She used to be so good, so calm under fire. What happened to her?

The explosions rattling the Fangs faded, and so did he.

Under the night sky in Rallsin, the capital of the kingdom of the same name, Nigel couldn't help but look up at the stars. The battle of the Southern Fangs had been over for nearly three hours, now, but he still hadn't said a word to Cerise. She had tried to talk to him after they'd both found each other after Gate-ing out, but he'd sent her to her room and gone to a different one. It was getting increasingly common that they didn't bother sharing a room anymore, only coming together every few days, or even a week between the different meetings, and then only for a quick fuck that didn't satisfy either of them anymore.

He shook his head as he looked at the skies, wondering just how things had gotten this bad. They'd handled the cult a dozen times before this. They'd never been hard to put down, but they'd never come together like this before, either. He was starting to wonder if their claims that the goddess had come back were true, but all the priests had said that there was no way, that their gods would have felt the return of Bast.

Well, if she's not back, then she's damn well influencing things more than she should.

Some small part of him wondered if this was a curse. Kain had been the only cat on the team, and they'd betrayed him. Bellatrix, who'd struck the first blow, had been killed. Tatsuo, who'd followed orders, had been broken and chained to the other side. That just left him and Cerise.

Who's going to get it worse? The one that came up with the plan, or the one that asked me to come up with it in the first place? he wondered.

The End
