Anatomy of a high school
Chapter 3: when the carnival comes to town
He kissed me... holy crap, he kissed me. Michael stood on the street outside of Kyles' House staring blankly at the door. He rubbed his forehead. Fuck... didn't see that coming.
He began walking towards his house very slowly, skate in his arm, mind somewhere completely different. Didn't know he swung that way... and I just met him. He couldn't have fallen for me... could he? No...
Being that he lived only three houses down, it didn't take long for Michael to get back to his house. He took his key out of his pocket and after fidgeting with the lock for thirty seconds he was able to let himself in. His parents were never home when he got home being that they both worked their own jobs to support the family. His Mom being a day time paramedic and his Dad being an economic planner for the city or something along those lines, he never really bothered to get it straight.
He went into the kitchen. If he was falling for me, he probably would have told me... that's right Michael, keep lying to yourself. He grabbed an apple and a glass of water and headed to his room.
Maybe some practice will clear my head. He bit into his apple, gulped down his water and picked up his guitar. He started to play a song that he had been practicing all spring break. As he played he started to think about Kyle.
Wouldn't he at least fall for another furry? I mean... I am nowhere near compatible to him... am I? He remembered a little thing he had heard from a movie "nowhere... now here." Subconsciously moving his fingers and playing a chord that was ill fitted to his chord progression.
"Crap." shocked by the chord he had played, he put down his guitar. Apparently this is not helping at all, he thought. He picked up his apple and went to his basement. Maybe a little bit of x-box will clear my head.
He sat down in front of the TV and the x-box 360 while taking another bite of his apple. Now what should I play? He decided to go with Modern Warfare 2. He slid the disk in and waited for it to load. Once loaded, he quickly jumped into an online match. He was never the best online player but today he was doing quite worse than he usually did. After his fifth match his kill death ratio was one kill to seven deaths. He is kind of cute if you roll that way... He thought about it. And Im pretty sure I don
t... I hope not... Dad would have my head. But as his session on the x-box went on and his kill death ratio dropped to even worse numbers. He couldn`t help but feel slightly attracted to him.
This is just like a crappy romance novel...only, with two guys. He sighed. His Kill death ratio for the most recent round was one to thirteen. Maybe I should just go surf the web. With that, he shut down the x-box and went back to his room.
He started his session with a quick look on facebook. Hey, that looks like good news. Greg had posted, "Carnival is coming. Gonna be an exciting weekend." I hope they bring back the zipper. That thing is the best.
If I (the author) wasn't so lazy, I would have put a description here of what the zipper is. If I had, it would have made no sense. So instead, why don't you all go and google 'zipper ride'. I can wait.... You're back? Okay then, on with the story.
Michael thought about the last time he was on the zipper. It was with Chris. They had been on all the other rides and were waiting for dark to fall before going on the zipper. Everyone knew that the zipper was the best at night.
He then replied "how much are wrist bands and which day." With that he decided to check his blog. He signed in with his user name "Mike the guy" and an undisclosed password. Every time he looked at his user name, he knew it was lame but everything else was already taken.
He started to write a new post.
'Hey, everyone who reads this (which is no one) I have a question to ask you. Have you ever felt like you just don't know? Like, you cannot predict what is coming your way? Well... that is how I feel right now... but twenty times worse. If anyone can get me a way to look into the future five minutes ahead of now for $10 i will give you $20 for it. To everyone else, a piece of advice will do.
Thanks, Mike the Guy.
He read through it once to make sure it was readable and hit the save button. He let his mind wander for yet another time. Kyle would be a really awesome boyfriend...IF I swung that way.
Just then the front door opened and he heard a series of footsteps enter the main hall accompanied by muffled conversation. He got up off of his bed and headed to his door. He checked the main hall. His parents and his brother had just got home. His father was holding his books and had a giant scowl on his face.
Looks like another bad day for Dad. Note to self, stay away from Dad until his mood blows over.
He took a glance over at his Mom. She was in her paramedic uniform and was carrying a box of Chinese food that was for dinner. Brody was juggling his skate and another box of Chinese food as he walked through the door. Looks like Dad and Mom are off to some fancy dinner party again. They never bring home Chinese if they aren't.
He rushed to his brother and grabbed the box before he had a chance to spill the contents all over the floor. "Hello," Michael said as he walked to the kitchen.
"Hello, Michael. How was your day?" His mother asked.
Michael thought over this question for a minute. I don't think I should tell them about Kyle right now. Who knows where the conversation would go from there. "The same old, same old, you know? We go to class, learn nothing and then come home," He replied.
His Mother looked at him. "As long as you keep your grades high, I'll trust that you can handle yourself." She started to unpack the Chinese food. "We're heading out to meet some friends and we won't be back till later. Will you be able to handle everything until we get back, Michael?"
Figures. "Yep, I can handle this place... and Brody." He punched Brody playfully in the arm.
"Okay, we'll be back by eleven then. See ya later."
"Bye." His parents walked out of the door and he heard the car rev up and pull out of the drive way.
Michael finished unpacking the food and took two plates out of the cupboard. He loaded his with ginger beef, chicken fried rice and egg foo young. He then went to his room to continue surfing the internet.
When he got back on his computer, he noticed that a chat bubble had popped up.
"Hey Mike."
Michael quickly got on it and replied.
"sup' Sadie."
Michael had never met Sadie but she had read his blogs ever since he had started to post. She had always been positive in her replies and she always talked to him whenever she could.
"What's got your panties in a bunch?"
"number one, I don't wear panties, you do. Number two I think someone is falling for me."
Wow, the way I put it out, it really sounds bad.
"What, no three?"
"Nope."
"That makes my job easy today."
Oh great. Now I have a girl trying to dominate me. "Since when has talking to me been your job?"
"Since now."
"Great..."
"Lol it's not that bad. You said you wanted advice, so stop complaining."
"Ok, fine."
"So you say that someone could be falling for you?"
You've came this far, you might as well finish this conversation. Michael sighed, then typed "Yes..."
"You act as if that's a bad thing."
"It could be, though."
"I highly doubt that. Do you like her?"
Michael looked at this and didn't know what to say. Her... "I don't know," Michael replied.
"Well then, you should stop worrying about it."
Michael thought about this for a minute. After not coming up with an answer to why she said that, he asked, "why?"
"Honestly? I don't know."
Michael let out another sigh.
"But, these sorts of things seem to have a way of solving themselves. If I were you, I would just ignore it and let it take its course."
"Okay?"
"Ha ha. Anyways, I have to go so I'll talk to later this week?"
"Yep, for sure."
"Kay, bye."
"See ya."
For the next few days he took Sadie's advice. His relation with Kyle went smoothly with them just being acquaintances. He made extra sure to avoid all areas that the B.C.C. were known to hang out and life was great.
By Thursday, the Carnival had finished completely setting up for the weekend and Michael had begun to plan it with Greg and Chris. "So... wrist band day is Saturday for thirty dollars?"
"Yep," Greg replied.
Michael and Greg were talking over the phone after Greg had finished talking to Chris. "This gives us unlimited rides for the whole day?"
"Yep."
"Chris is coming with us too?"
"Yep."
"Okay..." he sighed. "That only leaves one problem. We need one more person so that we all can go on the rides at the same time. All of the rides only seat two people and they don't let single riders on for safety reasons. Do you know anyone who would want to come with us?"
"I've been asking around and I haven't found a single person."
"How about Chris?"
"Same as me. How about You?"
"Possibly. Are you sure?"
"Positive."
Michael sighed again. "Okay... I'll call you in an hour or so."
"Okay I'll talk to you later."
"Okay then, See ya."
Michael hung up the phone. Stupid carnies and their stupid safety protocols. He sighed a third and final time. That only leaves one person who might be able to come with us. The human walked to the front door of his home and unlocked it. He walked out and closed the door behind him.
I can't believe I'm doing this. He walked the three doors down to Kyle's house And after a moment's hesitation, he walked up to the front door and knocked.
A female wolf came to the door. She was just a few hairs over six feet and her small ears were perked straights up. Michael wasn't acquainted with furries very well, but judging on the way she looked at Michael, he guessed that she was Kyle's mother. "Hello, can I help you?" She spoke with an overly friendly tone.
"Uh... yeah, is Kyle here?"
"Yes, just one second."
She closed the door and about a minute later Kyle was opening the door again. "Ohh, hey Michael. What's up?" He had a small smile on his face.
Straight forward and to the point. "Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the carnival with me and some friends. We'll be going on the rides that go inverted a lot so if you don't like them then that's okay but..."
"Sure, I'd love to come."
Michael looked him in the eyes and smiled. "Great. We are meeting at the seven eleven across the street from the carnival at five, and we are gonna be there till ten. Also wrist bands are gonna be thirty dollars. If you can't get the full money come talk to me. We might be able to help."
"Okay, I guess I'll see you there then."
"Okay, bye"
Kyle closed the door and Michael turned to start heading back to his house. That went better than expected. I hope he doesn't think this is a date... that would really make the night awkward. He walked the rest of the way back to his house in silence.
Michael and Kyle walked up to the seven eleven five minutes after five. Greg and Chris were leaning against the side wall sheltered from the slowly dying light. Chris had his usual death metal blaring out of his head phones wrapped around his neck. Greg had completely zoned out and was looking out in to the middle distance.
Greg was the first one to notice Michael and Kyle. "Ohh... look who's late. Half expect you not to show up."
"Hey, at least we're here right? Besides we're only five minutes late. By the way, this is Kyle." He pointed at Kyle. "He's our fourth for tonight."
Chris, who had just recently started to pay attention, held out his hand. "Hey, I'm Chris."
Kyle shook it and followed it up by shaking Greg's hand. "Hey, I'm Greg."
"Okay now that introductions are done, let's go hit the carnival."
They got their wrist bands as a group and were heading to their first ride. "So what should we ride first? The zipper, or the ring of fire?" Greg asked.
Again I (the author)could explain what the ring of fire is but it wouldn't make any sense. Just google it. Also, remember to put ride at the end or you'll probably get the pacific ring of fire in the ocean. (If you don't do this, the next part won't make much sense.)
Chris replied "Let's go on the ring of fire. It's new and we haven't been on it before."
I looked at Kyle, who didn't look too ecstatic about the occasion. "Umm... okay..."
Michael responded, "Come on man, it'll be fun."
"I never said I wasn't coming on did I?"
"Okay then, let's go!"
They got inline and were strapping in, in no time. They were seated in pairs looking at each other. Chris beside Greg, Michael and Kyle facing them. After about a minute and a half, the ride started. The ride started to climb up one side of the loop and came down just to go even higher up the other side. Michael risked a glance away from the track to take a look at his friends.
Chris and Greg were giggling uncontrollably as they continued their journey to the top of the loop. He then looked over at Kyle who was sweating slightly and had a petrified look on his face. His claws were digging into the restraints and his head was pressed tightly against the head rest. Michael tapped him in the shoulder to get his attention which he attained quite quickly. "Hey man, just enjoy the ride."
Michael visibly softened and looked at Michael with a warm expression. Did he hear me? Just as Michael thought that thought the ride had inverted completely. Both of them looked forward as they zoomed down the loop and just as quickly rushed back to their previously inverted position.
After going around the loop a few time and then backwards another few times the ride slowed down to the bottom were the four friends could finally get unstrapped and get off of the ride. After making it all the way to solid ground, Chris yelled "THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN LET'S DO IT AGAIN!"
Everyone just laughed at his comment. Michael looked up at Kyle He looks pretty happy... He blushed a little as he avoided Kyle's gaze. Tonight should be a good night.
Not two seconds later Kyle found 250 millilitres of pink slurpee covering his shirt accompanied by the footsteps of people running away. If there is a god, he hates me. "Holy fuck! God damn it!"
Chris and Greg took off running after the criminals while Michael just stared at Kyle. "Holy shit! What the fuck was that?" He said to nobody at all. He glanced towards where Greg and Chris had gone and then back to Kyle. He had turned a deep red that showed through his fur and looked as if he was about to cry. The people around them were turning in, snickering and laughing.
Michael took his paw and started to lead him to the edge of the carnival looking from side to side. Jesus... people just can't get enough of this, can they? They made their way behind the midway. Kyle wasn't as red anymore and Chris and Greg were right behind them. "were you able to get them?"
"No."Greg replied "We didn't even see their faces. They were wearing masks."
Michael sighed and looked over Kyle one more time. "Well... I'm gonna go with Kyle to his house so he can get changed."
Greg started to giggle and said, "whatcha gonna do once you get there?"
Michael looked to were Greg was looking. Michael was still holding Kyle's hand which were retracted quite quickly back to their respective owners. "Shut up you big baboon." Michael started to turn red. "Besides, we had to get out of there quickly."
"Okay, okay. How long will you guys be?"
"Hopefully, no more than an hour."
"Great, we'll see you back here then later."
Michael and Kyle muttered their goodbye's and started walking silently to Kyle's house. Being that they had the good fortune of living in a neighbourhood in the middle of town, it only took them about fifteen minutes to get to Kyle's house.
Kyle took a set of keys out of his pocket and, after finding the right one, let himself in. Before closing the door he looked back at Michael and asked, "aren't you coming in?"
"Well... I was just going to stay out here..."
"Why? I have to take a shower and it might take a few minutes."
"Well... uhh..." Before he could get out an excuse, Michael was being pulled into the house and was being lead to Kyle's room.
They went down a hall and in the last door to the right. When Michael was finally through, he found himself in a small blue room. He saw a bed against the side wall, and an arm chair facing a flat screen T.V. anchored to the opposite wall. On the floor was a little box just big enough to support an X-box and house a few games inside of it. At the foot of the bed were drawers for what Michael presumed were clothing and across from that were a desk that supported a monitor and a computer tower.
The walls were covered in all kinds of poster all containing different bands. Blink 182, Billy Talent, Eminem... he likes all the music I like. There were also other posters containing bands made up of furries and a combination between the two races.
"Nice room. "
Kyle, who had walked to a second door, looked at Michael. "Thanks. Make yourself at home, I'm gonna quickly take a shower."
Kyle slipped into the bathroom and after a few seconds, Michael could hear the water running. Michael looked around the room one more time and after grabbing the remote for the T.V., settled into the arm chair.
He flipped on the T.V. and started to flip through the channels and settled for the family guy. After ten minutes he heard the water in the washroom turn off. Another five minutes pass and Michael heard the door open. He looked at it and saw Kyle clutching a towel around his waist.
Michael looked the other way and started to head out of the room. "Sorry! I'll' just wait outside."
Kyle responded almost instantaneously, "no, it's okay. You can stay here."
Michael cursed to himself and started to back up into the seat. And after a few seconds turned and looked at Kyle.
He had, by that time, pulled on some boxer briefs that fit tightly to his mid section. The fur on his stomache was exposed and showed off his well defined abs and pectoral muscles. Michael lowered his view and was granted access to his package and ass. His eyes lingered there for only half a second before going even lower. His thighs and calves were well toned and fitted in with the rest of his body making him look like he was a perfectly toned super model.
Before Kyle could notice Michael looking at him, the human turned back towards the tube. Stop looking at him like that! You aren't supposed to be gay! He continued watching family guy.
"Are you ready?"
Michael looked back at Kyle. This time, he was fully clothed in beige shorts and a white button up shirt with a faint gray plaid pattern that fell across it vertically and horizontally. The clothing fit surprisingly well together. "Yep, whenever you are."
Kyle smiled, "great! Lets go then."
With that, Michael got up and they started to walk back to the carnival.
"So you've never been on the zipper?"
Michael and Kyle had walked back to the carnival and after five minutes had finally found Greg and Chris, Who were presently trying to get Kyle to go on the zipper with them. He had claimed that he didn't want to, but Chris and Greg weren't going to stop until he went on.
"Never. And I don't know if I want to either... it looks so... big." Michael looked at the flipping cages of the zipper.
Michael stepped in to help get him on the ride. "C'mon man. I'll be on there with you. And besides, once it gets going, it is a ton of fun." He smiled at Kyle.
"Are you sure? I mean... it looks like it whips you around pretty violently..."
"I'm sure. And to truly enjoy life, you have to leap before you look."
"Okay then... if you say so."
Chris and Greg gave each other a high five, being that they finally had Kyle on it with them. "Okay then. Let's go get in line!" Chris said immediately.
Kyle started walking nervously towards the zipper with everyone else. The sun was just barely over the horizon, casting long shadows from everything exposed to its touch of warmth. This meant that it was yet to be night fall, which was approaching fast. This also meant that the line for the zipper was relatively small and in minutes Kyle and Michael were being pushed against the back against a cage by a lap bar.
"Wait, there's no shoulder restraint?" Kyle was definitely nervous and getting more so as the seconds wore on.
"Nope. As long as you hold on t..." Before Michael could finish his sentence, the cage had started to fly up the side of the enlarged oval.
Kyle gasped at the speed of the sudden acceleration and then the sudden deceleration. Michael just chuckled.
"What are you laughing about?" Kyle asked.
Michael just lifted his hand. Kyle's hand was squeezing it in a death grip. "I know it's your first time, but I do like to hold on to the vertical bars in front of us. You know? The ones we are supposed to hold on to?"
They shot up again, Kyle trying to strangle the life out of the bars. They were two thirds up the oblong oval and were getting a good view of the carnival. They could see the ring of fire, the merry-go-round and the Ferris-wheel as well as all the other rides that were sorted across the expanse.
"So... is everyone almost loaded?" Kyle asked as he looked out over everything.
"I think there are two more groups to load including this one."
"Ohh..."
They shot up to the very top of the oval and were greeted by the sight of the sunset in all of its glory. Brilliant reds and oranges shone past the distant mountains and lit the sky with enough colour to make a blind man see again.
Michael and Kyle just stared at it and tried to take in as much as they could. "wow," was all they could get out.
After another ten seconds of staring Kyle finally broke the silence. "So... shouldn't we be moving soon?"
"Are you really trying to ruin the moment?"
"Sorry"
"I'm just kidding." Michael smiled at Kyle, "and yes, we should be moving really soon."
They suddenly, were shooting down at the ground on the opposite side of the ride than they came up. And then they were flying up the other side again. Michael zoned out as the ride started to flip them head over heels. His only focus was on which way he thought the ground was, and until the ride slowed down he didn't notice anything else.
The ride had slowed down enough for a little brake and Michael had come back to full awareness. He looked over at Kyle. He was clenching the bars in another death grip but, at the same time, was also smiling.
"looks like your enjoying yourself," Michael said, half grinning, half smirking.
"Actually... ya." He grinned back at Michael, a twinkle in his eye.
"That's good. Especially since we're about to be going backwards right now."
"Ya ... what!?" The ride started to turn backwards and the two of them started to flip backwards and after another minute they were waiting to get off.
"Now was that so bad?" Michael was looking directly at Kyle now waiting for an answer.
"No... no it wasn't . And I had a great time also."
"That's awesome. Because these are the rides that were going to be riding all night long until we go home."
"Haha, I think that I can deal with it."
"Awesome."
As you might guess, they got off the ride and were met by Greg and Chris who were already arguing on which ride they should go on next. The night proceeded with both rides being ridden multiple times by the group of four.
Every once in awhile Michael would catch Kyle looking at him with soft eyes filled with an emotion unknown to Michael, but he could still guess at it. Jesus.. he is really falling for me. Michael had just caught Kyle again for what seemed to be the millionth time that night. I guess that's not a bad thing... but I don't know if that's what I want. I have never been attracted to women before so that might make sense. And I do find Kyle pretty hot for a guy, but... Am I actually gay?
His mood had suddenly gone from over the top happy feelings to dark and almost depressed in the short time it took to walk from the Zipper to the Ring of Fire. His friends were already getting in line to go on the ride but Michael stayed behind. "Hey guys," Michael started dispassionately, "I'm gonna sit this one out, okay?"
The other three looked at Michael wondering what was wrong; but only Kyle went to go by him.
"Are you sure?" Chris ask, "this might be the last time we go on this ride. The carnies are closing this place in a few minutes."
"Ya I'm sure, I just don't feel like going on the ride."
"Okay then... Greg and I will catch up to you later."
Michael didn't respond. Partly because they were already getting strapped in to the ride and because he didn't want to explain why to them.
"What's up, Michael?"
Kyle, the last person that Michael really wanted to talk to now. "umm... nothing much, just thinking."
Kyle looked at him pensively. "Let's go on one of the less thrilling rides right now."
Michael couldn't answer as it wasn't a question. But he did find himself being pulled towards the Ferris-wheel by the wolf and before he could get a sense of what was happening, he was strapped in and traveling around the vertical wheel.
"whoa... what just happened?"
Kyle laughed, "I just dragged you on the Ferris-wheel without giving you an opinion."
"Ohh... rape much?"
They both laughed at that, but the laughter quickly died away into little more than an awkward silence. Obviously there's a reason for him getting me on here... Michael was thinking pensively again. I'm gonna have to make a decision really soon...
They continued their repetitive flight plan for a little less than a minute without talking or looking at each other. Well... I might as well get this over with... "Kyle... are you... attracted to me?"
The awkward silence continued for another few seconds. Kyle kept looking away, like a kid trying to hide a face covered in cookie crumbs from his mother. Before finally turning back blushing completely. "I... yes. Yes, I am."
Michael wasn't completely shocked by the truth, but it did rattle him a little. "Well... you are the first person to actually come out and admit that to me... that's good." He smiled at the wolf, "I wish more people were honest like that."
Kyle smiled back at him. "I'm glad you see it that way." There was a brief pause in the conversation as both of the teenagers took a moment to compose themselves. "Have you ever had a girlfriend?"
This did catch Michael off guard. "well... umm... not really..."
"As in no?"
"Basically." This stung at him a bit but Michael continued as if trying to defend himself while looking at his feet. "I've never really looked or anything and nothing has really caught my eyes... I guess that I always assumed that I would find the right one eventually."
The ride had stopped at the top and people were unloading. All the while Michael continued to look down. He felt a paw touch his chin and ever so gently raise it so that Michael was looking into the wolf's blue eyes. He felt himself start to lose himself to them as they started to lean in closer and closer until they were only a breaths length away.
Can you let yourself do this Michael? Can you really kiss this male wolf and live with yourself knowing that you did that? He came back to the present just long enough to see those eyes again. Yes... I think I can.
Their lips touched for the first consensual time, locking together and holding each other close for what seemed like eternity to Michael. He had closed his eyes and was now silently enjoying the bliss. He felt Kyle's lips on his and Kyle's fresh breath slightly in his mouth. Michael was somewhere else completely. He felt Kyle's tongue pressing up against his teeth begging for access, wanting to taste Michael's mouth. Michael moved his teeth and his mouth was almost instantly filled with two tongues wrestling around trying to gain dominance and trying to taste the other. Soon enough they had explored every part of Michaels mouth and had now just settled into a kiss of passion for the other. They remained like that for a few seconds before Kyle slowly pulled away and sat up straight.
"mmm... that felt..." Michael had troubles finding the proper word to finish his sentence.
"Right?" Kyle supplied.
"yes, that felt just right."
They started moving down to the bottom of the wheel and got off, moving towards the exit at a casual pace. They slowly wandered the carnival grounds until they found Chris and Greg who were sitting on a bench, relaxing and waiting for the other two of their group to find them. When they met, they discussed that all the rides were closing and started to talk about how much fun they had and how they couldn't wait for next year. They also stated that they would need to get home soon so they reluctantly parted, going there own way home.
Michael and Kyle started to walk home silently but after they were out of range of the carnival Kyle grabbed Michael's hand and held it all the way to his house. There, Michael turned to look at the wolf to ask a single question.
"Do you think that you can keep this a secret between us?" Michael's gaze was locked on Kyle.
"You didn't even need to ask."
"Thanks. That would have been bad for us down the road."
"Yeah."
"Okay then..." Michael Half turned to go. "I'll see you tomorrow and we'll do something. Okay?"
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow." With that Kyle turned to his house and walked towards the front door.
Michael watched him get half way there before turning to his own house and walking up to his own front door. After letting himself in he turned back to the door to make sure that it was locked, and after seeing that everyone else was asleep, he brushed his teeth, stripped down to his boxers and got into bed. That night, he slept deeply and happily.
Is Michael really gay?
Who were those masked figures who apparently hate pink slurpees?
And were any miracles worked that evening?
Find out in the next chapter of Anatomy of a High School.
P.S. (whatever that means) I'm going camping for a week so don't expect me to comment right away. Like I said at the top, please leave a comment or constructive criticism below and I'll respond when I get back. XD IM GOING CAMPING WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO XD
