Lyla at the Beach

Lyla was an airy, carefree fox, the kind of girl that wore yellow floral dresses to school and seemed to have been absent for all the sex ed classes--or at least, that's how everyone saw her. And in a way, she was... but she was many other things too. Struggling with her image, her identity, her age and all the other crap highschoolers have to deal with, she takes a day to the beach while everyone else is at school. Or, at least, while they were meant to. And out their, in the freedom of the coast, she decides on a whim to become a little bit more one with nature... leading to a potentially life-changing encounter. Just a short little cute thing, light and fluffy. Might lead somewhere.

Outside it was hot, dry and sandy, the coastal breeze bringing with it salt that hung in the air and stung the eyes and throat--just how Lyla liked it. Being an airy, carefree canine--the girl that always wore yellow floral dresses to school and seemed to have been absent for all the sex ed classes--the dusty-coated fox adored the summer season. She'd never coped well in the cold, always staring out frost-shrouded windows on such days, as if trying to melt the snow by glaring at it with her wide, blue eyes. Not that intense sky blue so sought after by the aspiring filmmaker, nor the icy blue of a sabre-tooth tiger charging an enemy encampment with nothing but a loincloth and a spear--rather, Lyla's irises were a soft ocean blue so easily missed by the average passer-by, yet genuine and more honest than the sea itself.

Lyla was often looked past by her classmates. Not as the subject of any kind of bullying--indeed, most were very polite, matching her cheery disposition at every turn--but she'd gained a reputation that had set her apart from the rest. She was the innocent one, kind and quiet, pretty enough but out of reach for any that were attracted--or at least, that seemed to be what people assumed. She had a strong enough group of friends that she'd spend lunch with, or study after school together, but she'd been so iconised as the cheerful epitome of schoolgirl innocence that she often felt sidelined in their jokes or games. She remembered being invited to a sleepover for the first time ever and feeling so excited for all the possibilities. When Abigail had suggested a game of truth or dare her heart had fluttered because it was something she'd always wanted to try. But when David had asked her and just before she could answer, Lucy had jumped in to 'save her'.

'What're you asking Lyl for? She's hardly going to want to play', Lucy had said, and she'd promptly helped Lyla move her stuff over to a private corner of the room where the girl had little else to do but fall asleep, wondering what could have been. Lucy had been acting in kindness, sure that Lyla would've felt uncomfortable with any even slightly risqué question or command, and maybe the young fox would have... she just wished that she could be the one to determine that.

Lyla sometimes wished she'd grown up in a less prude environment. Her father was a quiet and professional man, her mother a businesswoman for a dot com company, and neither ever gave her the means to ask private questions. When she'd gone into her first heat, her mother had explained it in such a clinical way that Lyla felt almost embarrassed for letting it happen. The sensations that were running through her body at the time were like nothing she'd felt before, a tightness in her stomach and a warmth in her loins that made her feel alive. But then she'd been handed a little yellow pill and glass of water, and a couple of minutes later she was 'back to her old self.' It had been like that ever since.

Sitting on her bed in her pastel-coloured room, Lyla looked down at the pill in her paw. Her calendar was sheepishly circled in pink, kindly letting her know it was time to have a week off school to stay at home. At least the town would be quiet for a few hours, and since she lived right next to the beach... perhaps no one would mind if she popped down there for a while. With a furrow in her brow she flicked the yellow pill into the bin and screwed up a piece of paper to cover it. Her parents had already left for the day, so she walked into her wardrobe and pulled out her swimsuit. A practical yet unremarkable black one-piece with a thin pink stripe running down the side. Certainly not sexy, but then she wasn't trying to be. It's not like anyone would care anyway, she thought to herself as she packed her bag and made up a lunchbox. I could be naked and none of the boys would try anything. With a shrug she slipped her bag's strap over her shoulder and locked the door, setting off down the winding stone slabbed path. The air was as hot as it got in summer, the ocean breeze carrying an enticing aroma that drove her toward the water. The sun made it sparkle like a million tiny gems waving lazily at her, holding her gaze all the way until she finally set foot in the sand. She held her arms out wide, spinning around with closed eyes until she felt dizzy and had to sit in the sand. There, she spread out a towel and then lathered herself in sun cream--her short fur made the irritating substance a necessity. With a frown she pulled at the edges of her swimsuit, stretching the material out a bit, wondering if it was getting a bit tight. But she did her best to ignore it. She was on her favourite section of the beach, an area cut off from the flatter, more popular coast by a shelf of thick rock. It was quiet enough at the best of times, but right now, in the middle of the school and workday, there was not a single animal in sight.

Lyla lay back, staring up at the sky. A few languid clouds wafted around, making the whole thing look like a second ocean. She took another deep breath, revelling in the feeling of it all. She sometimes wished she was a seal, shark or other aquatic animal that could spend her days down there, under the waves. No bipedals lived here--much of the ocean was left to the 'feral' animals--but she felt so drawn to it that she half wondered if some far off ancestor had possessed gills.

When she finally got back up, Lyla spent another hour just wondering around the waterside, running grooves into the sand with her foot or climbing over mossy rocks. Her suit really did feel tight today--maybe she'd grown--and before long she couldn't get her mind off it. Every time she lifted her leg the underpart of the material would rub against her, irritating her fur and the base of her tail and her... well... Lyla tried to ignore it. But the more it happened, the stranger she felt. Something warm and dense was resting in the pit of her stomach, aching ever so slightly and putting on pressure. She tried stretching, pulling her arms up into the air and then bending down to grab at her feet, doing a few half-hearted leaps, but soon nothing would stop it. Her suit felt constricting, irritating, unnatural. An idea popped into her head that was so scandalous she could barely recognise it as her own thought, but as she entertained it the nagging sensation inside her egged her on. Her swimsuit was annoying, and there wasn't a single animal around. Even if one came by, she'd see them coming down the path long before they saw her. So... maybe...

Feeling more alive than ever, Lyla grabbed at the straps on her shoulders, brushing them down onto her long, thin arms. Her heart was beating quickly and her head felt light. She glanced nervously up the path, squinting into the sun. No one. She got her paws under the material on her chest, pulling them down and over the slight swell of her breasts. Her throat felt tight and her brain was telling her this was a very bad idea, but she pushed past her doubts, getting the tight outfit to her hips. She looked down at herself, a small smile of disbelief at what she was doing flitting over her lips. Here she was, topless and out in the open where anyone could see. The sunscreen she'd been careful not to get on her suit had been smeared around, matting her fur even more and giving her normally silky coat a raggedy appearance. Her small breasts rose and fell with each tight breath and she realised her nipples had stiffened, sticking out from her short fur like little pink buds. She absent-mindedly brought a paw up and ran a finger over one, then gasped as an electric spark ran through her body, making her shiver and tingles run down her back. She instantly removed her paw, grasping down at the hanging material of her swimsuit and working it with her claws as if that would reverse the feelings. P-probably just the breeze... or 'cause I'm near the water, like when I'm in the shower sometimes, she told herself.

With one final glance at the empty path, she drew in a deep breath and then held it as she pulled her swimsuit down the rest of the way. An airy breeze ran between her legs, making her let out a little sigh as she stepped out of the constricting one-piece and kicked it over to her towel. She was naked, wearing nothing except her tawny fur in the clear ocean air. She let out a giggle, stretching her arms above her head and basking in the heat of the sun. She turned to the water, moving her arms down until they were outstretched at her sides, showing herself to the sea. She felt amazing, so utterly free and, at the same time, just a little bit rebellious. If her parents knew what she was doing they'd blow a fuse, and the knowledge of that made her bite her lip and grin. She shook her shoulders a little, swaying in time with the water and then faster, turning it into a light dance that welled up with the energy inside her. She spun left and took off, sprinting parallel to the ocean, wind whipping through her fur. Near the dividing cliff she skidded to a stop, sand spraying wildly before she started running in the other direction. She felt a twang of guilt at her childlike giddiness but ignored it, determined to luxuriate in the experience. Now that her swimsuit was off, she no longer felt its constricting presence, but still something lurked within her. It had been steadily growing, making itself known as a warmth ached between her legs. When she slid to a stop a final time she knelt down, legs apart, curiously looking down at herself. From her hips to the top of her thighs the fur was far softer, flatter, cutting a close line to her lithe frame. She didn't have much in the way of hips, only the subtlest of curves breaking the straight up-and-down of the rest of her. Her mother was like that too, though at least she had breasts. Lyla had always felt it unfair she still didn't have much to show, especially when nearly all the other girls in her class where in the final stages of their growth, images for the women they would soon become. Outside, Lyla's body largely reflected the girl she still was inside, and that frustrated her. Boys liked breasts and butts, right? At least, that's what her friends joked about when they thought she couldn't hear. How was she ever going to attract one's attention without them?

Lyla ran the soft pads of her paws down her sides, fingers lightly tapping the bony front of her hips. She wasn't the unhealthy kind of thin some of the other girls were, and she definitely ate as much as she wanted, but there wasn't much fat or muscle on her either, so some of her bones did stick out a bit. Another thing she didn't like, the way her collarbones and shoulder blades could clearly be felt under her fur, and her hips had those ridges on the sides that curved downward toward her groin. She followed the line, a tingle running through her again as her paws reached the soft, flat mound just below her stomach. She pressed down on it lightly and gasped as the sensations increased. It felt amazing, yet another part of her felt frustrated, like it wanted more, needed more. Her paw trailed down further, just a little more, until it reached the very top of the small, almost hidden slit between her legs. She'd stopped breathing now, just staring down at herself as her paw shook a little. A tiny pink bud peaked out from the top, hard and wanting. Below it, where her lips thickened out slightly and became deeper, a small spot of liquid shimmered slightly. Lyla let out a little sigh as she dipped a digit toward it, rubbing it ever so slowly above her dark, warm tunnel. She brought her finger to her face, examined the slick substance upon it. She'd never done anything like this before, partly because she'd rarely felt the urge and partly because she knew she shouldn't. Did other girls get like this? Touch themselves, and feel so good doing so... Or was it just her?

Lyla wondered if she really cared. Here on the beach, kneeling in the hot sand with a cooling breeze caressing her body, everything felt right. She returned her finger, rubbing it slowly over the length of her delicate folds. Sometimes she'd touch a particularly delicate spot and have to stop for a few seconds until her breath returned and her vision stopped swimming, but then she'd lose it for a while and so would return to gently running her paw up and down. She didn't really know what she was doing, instead acting purely on instinct and listening to her body. She was growing wetter, her paw slicking up and making it easier to touch herself. With her other paw she caressed the rest of her body, sliding it slowly up her leg, pressing gently on her stomach, lightly scraping her claws up her sides and over the front of her shoulders. Her paw met her breast and she squeezed it slightly, ran a thumb over the small, hard nipple, but doing it to herself couldn't compare to the sensations between her legs so she concentrated back on that. A finger reached the tight, wet hole nestled beneath the lower folds of her pussy and she pressed on it experimentally, sending another spark of pleasure shooting up her body. A low, husky growl rumbled in her throat and she pressed on it again, harder, until she felt her finger begin to slide in and her sex tighten with pleasure and she--

Lyla froze, the tip of a finger halfway inside herself and her other paw gently pinching her clit. A wave of icy fear ran down her back as her ears perked up, catching the murmur of voices drifting over from the downhill path. She'd completely forgotten to keep watch over it! Almost too scared to look, she turned her head just enough to see the distant blur of two brightly coloured shirts making their way down the paved stairway, still some two hundred metres off. She let out a gasp of relief and dived to her towel, grabbing the whole thing in one bundle before sprinting, bent low, over to the rocky crags at the base of the dividing cliff. She ducked behind one and let her towel fall open, searching desperately for her swimsuit. Sunscreen, lunchbox, generic girl's magazine... no bathers.

In horror she looked back, saw the black mass of material half-covered in sand back where the towel had been. She didn't have time to run back because the couple had reached the bottom of the stairs now and were racing each other to the water, laughing the whole way. She watched them pass, her heart pumping heavily in terror, but they didn't see her or her swimsuit and instead dived for the water. First was the male, tall and thin but with the toned musculature of a long-distance runner. He was a deer, a roe or perhaps a fallow, and his horns were only small with no signs of having been cut so Lyla knew he had to be in his early twenties. His fur was a short beige colour, silky and clean, and he wore only a modest pair of dark trunks that hung loosely around his hips. Lyla found herself looking down at his small, stubbed tail which poked out from just underneath the waistband, and then at his front when he turned unknowingly toward her. The other, a fox like her, though of a much darker shade and a vastly different body type, was splashing water at him. Lyla felt a twinge of irritation when she noted the curvaceous frame stuffed into a tight blue bikini, of a cut that would've given her parents a stroke. Her breasts were held high and perky, her hips a little less prominent but still enough to stretch the thin strings of her diamond-pattered bottom. Her belly stuck out just a little, giving her a cute, soft look that jiggled ever so slightly as she danced in the water.

Lyla let out a small sigh behind the rock, watching the couple shamelessly flirt and wondering what that would feel like. She'd had crushes before--boy bands, famous dancers, the man in that latest Uneven Horizon film--but the boys at her school were either too immature or too uninterested to give her any true hope. Her parents had always said she could start dating after she graduated, but without any experience in relationships she had no idea where to start.

The girl let out a squeal when her boyfriend shoved her over and they both toppled over into the sand, waves rolling over their legs. It was like a scene in a movie, only from out here she felt like a voyeur. She timidly glanced back over at the sand where her bathing suit still sat, clear in the open for anyone to see. Could she grab it if she was quick enough? Maybe she should just give in and sprint for it and flash these two strangers. But what if they recognised her?

'I hope that's a shell I can feel on my leg.' She heard the girl say, her voice somewhere between slyly feminine and innocently cutesy. Lyla looked back them, saw the guy lying on top of her, the girl's legs spread around him. They didn't move for a moment, and then Lyla realised the girl was reaching under him, her paw somewhere between his legs. A moment later his eyes half closed and his muzzle opened, a soft moan emanating from within. Lyla blushed as she watched the girl grope him, her own paw unconsciously mimicking the motions.

'God, Aly, that--that's good.' The deer moaned, arms shaking a little from the effort of holding himself up on the sand. The girl--Aly--took her paw back and squirmed out from under him before pulling him to his feet. They kissed, just a quick peck, before the fox trailed down his body, leaving little kisses on his chest, then his stomach, then his hips, until finally she was at his swimming shorts. Her paws made quick work of the string, then tugged at the hem to bring the shorts down in one swift move. His penis bounced out, already hard and practically throbbing, nearly hitting her in the muzzle.

Lyla gasped. She'd never seen one, not in real life, and now it was right there, out in the open. She could see every detail from this close, every vein and ridge and bump of the head, could see it bobbing light in the air with a small pool of wetness at its tip. The moment she gasped her paws flew to her muzzle to silence herself, but the other two heard it and froze. A second later the fox girl was up, the deer's pants back around his hips, and they were standing side by side.

Lyla pressed her back against the rocks, breathing hard but trying to keep quiet. She heard to two murmur something, and then the sound of crunching sand coming closer. Her ears perked, swivelled, and she could pick out the two sets diverging. One to the left of the rock heap, the other to the right, encircling her. She was trapped. Lyla's heart raced, her paws clenched and eyes watering, pressing herself against the rock as if praying it would swallow her up. They'd find her, know she was spying on them naked and think she was some kind of pervert. They might report her to the police, or worse, her parents! And she'd be grounded for a year and locked in her room, and she'd never get to go to the beach again. She was done for. She should never had thrown that stupid pill in the trash, or come to the beach or taken her clothes off or given in to the desires that had been burning in her body for five years. Her parents were right, she----

'Hey, what's that?'

Lyla's eyes flew open and she stared, not at two angry animals but instead at empty sand. Behind her, the girl changed direction, padding over to where Lyla's suit lay in the sand. The boy joined her, picked it up and looked it over.

'Who the hell leaves their bathers lying around?'

'You... you don't suppose it's something... sinister, do you?'

There was a bit of mumbling Lyla couldn't make out, and then the deer snorted. 'No, Alison, I don't think someone kidnapped a teenager and dumped her in the ocean.'

'Either way, I... think we should go. Your parents are still out, right?'

'Yeah, but... you sure you want to risk that? If they catch us and figure out you're off it they'll probably try and keep us apart for the rest of the year.'

'Then we'll go to Sarah's, her folks wouldn't care. I'll give her a ring, let's just... let's get out of here. I'm creeped out, Shaun.'

Another exchange Lyla couldn't make out, and then pawsteps began receding, heading for the paved path up the hill. She let out a gasp of relief, sinking back against the rock. That had been a close one. She was never, ever going to do that agai----

Something smacked her in the face and she squeaked in surprise, jumping away from the rocks and landing flat in the sand. She flailed around, trying to pull off whatever was wrapped around her head but she couldn't manage it and she cried out. Then strong paws were grabbing her wrists and forcing them apart, and a second later the binding was gone from her eyes and a concerned face appeared above her.

'Woah, calm down there, it's just your bathers.' The deer held up the swimsuit to prove it, then dropped it carefully in her lap and stepped back, holding out a paw for her. 'I was throwing it to you, thought it would... well, didn't think it would make a move for your face. Are you alright?'

Lyla was far too shocked to speak, merely clutching her one piece and staring at him. The boy's girlfriend was nowhere to be seen--it must have only been her heading up the path.

The deer chuckled, and up close his face was even cuter than she'd thought. Not classically handsome, missing a sharp jawline and set brow, but rather more genuine, almost goofy, the face of someone that smiled a lot. With his other paw he rubbed the back of his head. 'Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. I figured there must be something going on here, thought you could probably do with your suit back.'

'Uh... t-thanks...' Lyla stuttered, her throat dry. She went to grab his paw before realising she was indeed still naked and scrambled back, holding her suit over her chest and covering the top of her legs with the other. The deer coughed and retracted the hand, turning away. 'Right, yes, clothes. I promise I didn't look or anything, not--uh, on purpose, I mean.'

Lyla stood, staring carefully at the back of his head. She tried to step through the leg-holes of the suit but missed, still trembling. After a few more failed attempts she chucked the thing on the floor with a growl of frustration. Assuming she was done, the deer turned back around only to make a surprised noise and slap his paws over his eyes. It was almost getting ridiculous at this point.

'Fuck, no, I--I thought you were done, so I... um... how about you just put the towel over you?'

'Okay...' Lyla whispered, and wrapped her conveniently sized beach towel around her midsection, plenty enough to hide herself. 'Sorry, couldn't get them on.'

'Your bathers? Are they... what, too small?'

'...Basically.' She said, a smile flitting across her lips despite the circumstances. The deer relaxed a little. 'So... can I uncover my eyes?'

'Oh, yes! Sorry, yes.'

He dropped his paws, looked her properly in the eyes. His gaze started to slide down before darting back up again with embarrassment. 'I'm Shaun, by the way.'

'Lyla.'

'Nice to meet you Lyla. Uh... so what's with the... casual nudism? New hobby?'

She giggled and leant back against the rock, still holding the towel around her. 'Sort of. I don't really know... just sort of happened. And then you guys came and I panicked.'

Shaun joined her, leaning back with a leg bent casually. He glanced behind him at the path, then turned back to her. 'I'm surprised you didn't just wrap your towel around yourself and come out.'

'I... didn't think about that.' She said. The deer nodded. 'Fair enough. I'd have been pretty shaken up by the whole thing too. Just didn't think anyone would be down here. Usually pretty quiet at this time.'

'That's what I thought.'

'Right, right...' They were both quiet for a moment, then Lyla looked at him, throat feeling dry again. 'So... who's the lucky girl?'

'Lucky..? Oh, yes! Alison--Aly... only been together for a little bit, but she's real nice. First girlfriend and all so... ah, crap, I guess you saw some stuff.'

'No, no I... not me.' She said. Shaun rose an eyebrow at her, and after a second she blushed. He grinned. 'Thought so. God, my parents would kill me if they knew about that. Uh... maybe don't tell anyone, yeah? I promise I won't either.'

'My lips are sealed.' She hesitated, then let out a sigh and folded her arms, keeping them tight against her chest. 'My parents are pretty tight too. Maybe that's why I... you know.'

'Stripped off everything and spied on two horny kids from behind some rocks on a beach?' He said with a smile. Lyla looked down at the ground, still blushing. 'Yeah. Well, you know, gotta get my kicks in somehow. Only way I'll see anything before school finishes.'

'You got the 'wait till graduation' rule too, huh?' He turned to her, leaning on his shoulder now. 'Find it kind of hard to believe someone hasn't convinced you out of it yet.'

Lyla blinked. 'Me? I... haven't really been asked. Not the type of girl they want, I guess.' She sighed again, staring off into the rocks. She'd never been this open before, not even with her friends. It felt weird saying it out loud, but then this whole situation was so bizarre that maybe that's what was lending her courage. Shaun snorted, giving her the quick up-and-down he'd denied himself earlier. 'I don't believe it for a second. Pretty girl like you, probably willing to live a bit on the dangerous side, likes the beach and swimming? That's pretty much the top of the chain there.'

'Doesn't live on the wild side, and definitely not pretty.' Lyla said. Shaun gawked and she looked down again, drawing a circle in the sand with her bare foot. 'First time I tried something like this, and... probably the last. As for the other thing... well, your girlfriend, right? She's pretty. Got the... boobs and butt and stuff.'

'She's got a body, yes. So does everyone. I've got hips, you've got hips... would probably be a bit hard to walk without them. I've got a chest, and you've got a--'

'I don't really have anything.' She said, looking down at the flat drop of the towel. The deer poked her in the shoulder and she turned to him, still not quite meeting his eye. 'Lyla, right? I don't know what's gotten into your head, but get it out. Sure, some guys like big tits. Some guys like hips wider than a doorway. But other guys like small girls, some really don't care, some like other guys, and some are way more into your shoulders or your knees or, I don't know, the way you do cartwheels or eat pasta. If you're getting caught up by people that want you to look a certain way than they're not worth a second of your time. Or,' he cracked a smile, 'even better, tell them you only date guys with three arms'.

She grinned and finally looked up into his eyes. They were a soft blue, just like hers. Some part of Lyla berated herself for feeling so giddy over a speech straight out of a straight-to-DVD release, but it was something she'd needed to hear for a long time. With her heart beating just a little faster, and driven by the whole moment, she bit her lip and asked; 'so... am I pretty?'

Shaun was quiet for a moment. He'd seen the look in her eye, they way she'd leaned a little closer to him, shoulders rolling back just a little. He knew he shouldn't... Aly was waiting for him back on the road... but another part of him couldn't stop himself. 'Yeah, I think you are.'

Lyla smiled, cheeks burning and heart opening like a sunflower. Without thinking she moved into him, wrapping her arms around his lean chest and over his shoulders in a warm hug. He was surprised for a moment, didn't do anything at first but then she didn't let go so he returned it and felt her muzzle rest on his shoulder. He tried not to feel the way her body fit against him, her paws over his back and her chest tight against his, her belly sitting just over his trunks. He was a fair bit taller than her, enough that she had to go on her toes, and he tried not to think about that that.

Then she let go and he tried not to think about his disappointment.

'Thank you, Shaun. That... I'll remember that. Now, uh, you should get back. To... Alison.'

'Y-yeah, I should. Um... hope you manage to get your swimsuit back on. Maybe I'll see you back here some time. Or in town or whatever.' He turned, went to go but something turned him back and he found himself saying 'I'm in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays, just after school. Not very good at science so I have to study for it. Just to let you know, I mean'. He frowned, confused at himself, then looked back at her and nodded. 'Right, yes, goodbye then.'

She watched him go, hurrying up the beach path with his head down, all the way until he disappeared over the hill. She waited there for another few minutes, running the events of the past hour back a few times. Then, with a long, contented sigh, she got back down to the business of putting her swimsuit on. It still felt uncomfortable, but at least now she'd... satisfied herself enough to not let it distract her, so within a minute she too was walking up the path and cresting the hill. Shaun and his girlfriend were nowhere to be seen, but perhaps that was a good thing--she might have been a little perturbed if Lyla had suddenly appeared from an empty beach, or even worse she might have put things together. They hadn't exactly done anything wrong, it wasn't even like they'd kissed, but all the same it was perhaps best they kept things quiet. After all, it wasn't like they were going to see each other again.

Lyla set off back home, where she could safely be back in her room an hour before her parents returned. There was a little skip in her step now, and she felt good. What am I doing next Tuesday? Nothing? Maybe I'll go study at the library for a bit.

Just to study, of course. Really.
