Chiricov
A Date with Destiny
"Wow..." I said shocked, "You look great." I couldn't think of any other words to describe her at the moment. I was dumbfounded at her stunning beauty.
She blushed, "Thank you", she giggled.
I opened the passenger door to my custom jet black 2008 Ford Excursion with a flourish. She stepped inside and I walked around to the driver's side, stepped in and turned the engine on. The V8 Diesel engine roared to life and we were off. I looked over and smiled; keeping one hand on the wheel I took her paw in mine. It wasn't a long drive, about 30 minutes. It was nice though, Nina was by my side, paw in paw.
We pulled up to the restaurant, under an over hanging. We both stepped out and I tossed my keys to the valet, dressed in a vest. Tipping him a 10 dollar bill, he got in and drove off to park. I took Nina's paw and we walked in, side-by-side. There was a short wait; I took this time to look in a mirror and readjust my tie and straighten my suit jacket.
We were finally seated after a five minutes wait. We both ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. We toasted, took a sip and ordered our meals. After we finished, I politely excused myself and walked to the bathroom.
My palms were sweaty. We had only gone on six dates and here I was preparing to ask her the biggest question of both our lives. My face was perspiring. I splashed water on it to cool down and dried my face. I took the little box from my pocket and opened it. Looking at the ring, I took a deep breath, closed the box, exhaled, and exited the bathroom to approach my destiny.
As I approached the table my paws started swearing again. I sat down and nervously wiped them on my pant leg.
"Hun? You alright?" she questioned.
"Yeah... I'm good." I replied, my voice sounding shaky.
I knew that she could tell that I was nervous. I built up my courage and sighed. Now was as good a time as ever. I best do it before I lose my nerve.
"Hun..." I breathed heavily, "I need to ask you something"
"Yes?" she replied.
I breathed heavily as I got down on one knee. I saw the look of surprise in her eyes as I produced a diamond ring from my pocket.
"Nina Delenore Poole," I said, my voice a little shaky, "Will you do me the honor of being my beautiful wife?"
Tears flooded her eyes as she replied through sobs, "Yes... Yes I will." Her hands were shaking as I slipped the ring onto her finger.
She finished sobbing, I paid the check and we walked out. The restaurant patrons congratulated us as we left the building. I called the valet and he brought my truck to us. I opened the door and she stepped in. I got in the drivers seat and we drove to my house.
I pulled into my driveway and we walked to the door with her. I unlocked the door; scooped her up in my arms and carried her over the threshold. I kicked the door shut behind me and it closed with a click.
I smiled to myself. This was going to be a good night.
[Now, Let's Leave These Two Be... And Skip Ahead To The Next Morning.]
My mental alarm went off at 9:30AM. I opened my eyes, yawned and stretched my arms and legs. I looked over to see Nina silently looking at me, her arm draped across my chest, her head nestled against my shoulder. I turned my head and faced her; staring into her beautiful crystal blue eyes. She leaned forward and we kissed.
"Mornin' hun" she whispered into my ear, as she slipped out of bed and began to clothe her naked body.
"Good Morning" I said in reply.
The early morning sun glimmered through the window. The rays illuminated her gorgeous fur. I calmly and happily watched her dress herself; admiring her sculpted figure. I then pulled myself out of bed and pulled on a pair of sweatpants that were on the floor.
I walked out to the kitchen, turned on the stove and threw some bacon, sausage, and eggs into 2 frying pans. The bacon and sausage began to sizzle and the kitchen was filled with that delicious breakfast aroma. My mouth began to water in anticipation as I filled two plates with food. I set them on the table and poured to glasses of orange juice, and sat down to enjoy the meal before me. I closed my eyes, folded my hand and said a short silent prayer, then began to eat. I was about half way through my meal when my cell began to ring. I looked at the number, sighed and frowned.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Chiricov, this is Hummel. I am assembling the team together for a meeting. Be here by 1300 hours." He said.
"Will do, Sir." I replied.
"Good man." He said and hung up the phone.
I sighed and turned to Nina.
"Nina, Hummel is calling the-" I was cut off when Nina's cell began to ring. It was Hummel; explaining the same thing he had said to me. She too hung up and sighed.
"Well, so much for lunch at the park." She said, sounding annoyed.
"Yeah..." I said with disappointment clearly evident in my voice.
I looked at my watch. It read 10:11AM.
"Well, we have about an hour- 45 before we have to go." I said, still sounding disappointed.
We sat down and finished our breakfast. Nina got up and went to take a shower; leaving me to wash and dry the dishes. I then went to the cupboard and pulled out a bag of dog food. I filled the two dog bowls with food and water. I whistled loudly and my faithful German Shepherd, Rory, came bounding from the bedroom. He skidded to a stop right before his food and he ate it greedily. I fondled his ears as he ate; thinking about how the day was ruined.
I heard the water in the shower stop and the door close. Nina stepped out towel herself off, and get dressed. Now, it was my turn. I stepped from my sweatpants and stepped into the shower. Ten minutes later, I stepped out, dried myself, and got dressed into my army fatigues. Nina was dressed the same. We walked to the truck and started the hour long journey to the base.
When we arrived, Hummel saw as step out of the truck, walking hand in hand. Then he took note of the ring on each of our fingers. We opened the door and walked in. He did something that none of us had ever seen... he smiled.
"Well. Well. Well... Congratulations you two" he said happily.
"Thank you very much, Sir." We both chimed.
Then Hummel spoke, sounding more serious now.
"Okay, now down to business. I was reluctant to make this decision because you are my best soldiers, but MY higher-ups demand it. Chiricov... Nina... Trey... all of you will be leaving the Ocean Special Force's Delta Division. Effective immediately." ...
