Refuge from the Storm

Rain drummed its fingers against the window rhythmically. The wind danced by, moaning artistically as the thunder beat its drum. This would have been a frightening experience if not for the fact that the kit was getting his diaper changed just then. Daddy stood over him, smiling warmly as he pulled open the diaper. The lightning made its entrance onto the stage of the night sky, but it did little to distract from the warm glow of the florescent lights in the nursery. Daddy took a cubby wipe and gently cleaned his cub, having nothing in the world more important that his child. The kit lay there calmly. Normally he would wiggle impatiently, but Daddy just seemed so content that he remained still as his legs were lifted and a new diaper replaced the soiled one underneath him.

Daddy grabbed the cubby powder and sprinkled it over his cub from head to toe, caressing the aromatic powder into the cub's fur. Lifting the front of the diaper over the cub, he taped it securely around the cub's waist. He leaned over and nuzzled the kit's belly and the kit giggled appreciatively. The performance outside continued, but they had no world beyond each other at that moment. Daddy walked over to the white dresser and pulled out a light blue sleeper, which he skillfully threaded the kit's legs into, zipping it up and enveloping his cub in its warmth. He scooped up the kit and was about to put him into his crib when the thunder boomed loudly. The kit yelped and whimpered, so Daddy turned and left the nursery, the kit still in his arms.

Entering his own bedroom, he laid his cub on the bed before stripping down to his briefs. Climbing into bed, he cuddled with his cub.

"I love you, daddy." The kit whispered, snuggling into Daddy's chest, finding safety from the storm there.

"I love you too, my big cub." Daddy replied before they both drifted off to sleep.
