An Interview with Toumal: The SoFurry Search Function
Heuvadoches: Toumal. Thank you for coming.
Toumal: Thanks for having me here!
Heuvadoches: Our readers and the users of SoFurry have a few questions about the search function.
Toumal: Go on! What shall I search for for you? :)
Heuvadoches: The bar at the top of the screen with the website title in it. Over on the far right, we have a clear box with the word "go" in a button next to it.
Toumal: Yep
Heuvadoches: Ok. So, we type something in there and click "go" right?
Toumal: That's the gist of it, yes. But of course there are some options
Heuvadoches: That's not all?
Toumal: Well the search returns you results of whatever type is currently active in the tabs
Heuvadoches: Oh, the tabs. A user can filter it down by two categories?
Toumal: No, it's either everything (kind of an overview), or you narrow it down to a single type by clicking for example "Stories".
Heuvadoches: So, the icons labeled "All" , "Art" , "Stories" , "Music" and "Journals" will filter it by that specific category?
Toumal: That's the idea.
Heuvadoches: I see! And the sub-bar of "All" , "M/Solo" , "F/Solo" and the like will filter the filtered results?
Toumal: Eh, no. These are just quick-searches to make life easier for people who miss the gender categories of YiffStar; however, we will have "saved searches" in SoFurry 2.0 which will replace this.
Heuvadoches: That's a bang up job!
Toumal: That's not all - currently you can exclude tags in your search, so as to not have a certain thing appear at all. This is done by putting a "!" or "-" before the search tag. Oh and be sure to separate tags by comma, since there are tags that have spaces in them.
Heuvadoches: Great! What about the Forums and Groups icon?
Toumal: Those are not tied in to the search function - yet. In SoFurry 2.0 this navigation will be cleaned up significantly, it's actually our major focus.
Heuvadoches: About the new release of the user interface, some of our viewers may be worried that this feature will be changing. Can you give us any idea if this basic functionality will change?
Toumal: Well we're removing most of the tabs and replacing them with a sleeker, less "busy" navigation. You can see our efforts in the forum, and we will DEFINITELY do a public beta of the new interface, so there's plenty of time to give feedback!
