BIG PLEADING EYES

It was a very sunny day. A young orange fox was strolling down the gravel road accompanied by a gray feline. They stared down the empty path as they held each other's paw.

"What do you think we should do today?" He asked her.

"Beats me," the female responded. "I have no clue at all."

They continued to stroll down the path in silence. A gentle breeze of the spring swept the fur on their body.

"Man!!" The fox yelled. "I'm so bored!!"

"If you're so bored, then why don't we find something to do, Gerald?" The cat asked.

"Gabriella," he looked at her face, "we just said that there's nothing to do a little while ago."

"Oh... right..."

The two of them suddenly stopped and looked at each other's face.

"You..." Gerald said softly before looking away.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"I-I never realized you have such beautiful eyes..." He blushed.

"Oh..." Gabriella started to blush. "R-really?"

"Y-yeah..."

The two stared to the ground in an awkward silence.

"L-look," Gabriella stammered. "W-why don't we go and check on John, okay?"

The feline quickly stepped forward, but she accidentally tripped on the gravel. Gerald noticed this and quickly reacted. He quickly grabbed her. His arms were wrapped around the gray feline's body. The surprised cat stared at the vulpine's eyes. Slowly, she placed her right paw on his cheek. They both reached each other's muzzle and went into a...

WHACK!!

"Oww!! What the-!?"

I looked up to see an angry woman staring at me on the face. I quickly turned my head around to see everyone in my class staring at me.

"Mr. Stone, I know that you are still injured from two days ago, but I didn't ask you to doze off," the teacher, Mrs. Elijah, glared at me.

"S-sorry..." I stared down on my books and started to blush out of embarrassment as the other students chuckled at my predicament.

"Mr. Stone, I would like to have a word with you after this," Mrs. Elijah sighed.

"Yes maam..."

I turned my head to my right to see Alex who was also staring at me. Rather than laughing, he looked a little more concerned at me. He gave me a questioning look as if he were asking what happened. I sighed and tilted my head to my left side and view the blue sky.

'That dream...' I started to daydream, 'it was when we were 14... And that was...'

"Mike..." Alex whispered, breaking me from my trance. I turned my head to him.

"What?" I whispered back.

"Whatever you're thinking about, you'd better do it later. She's glaring right now." He pointed towards my homeroom teacher.

"Oh... right..." I smiled.

The day after I was released from the hospital raised a lot of questions in the school. My injuries were supposed to make me stay at the hospital for several more days, but I was released the day after I was shot. Luckily, everyone faked that I was still hurting, and it went so well that it didn't raise any suspicions.

After the bell has rang, everyone started to pack and head outside. That is... besides Alex and me. We immediately stood in front of Mrs. Elijah, who was sitting behind her desk. Her eyes looked at the two of us in concern.

"Mr. Stone," she started. "I you'd been assaulted by Mr. Lloyd Stellar a few days ago, correct? Aren't you pushing yourself a little too hard?"

"Don't worry, maam," I smiled in confidence. "I won't let myself be wearied that easily."

"And to make sure, I'll keep an eye on him," Alex said.

"Have it your way then," she smiled back. "But I also want to remind you that the school also doesn't approve of fighting, inside or outside of the territory."

"I am aware of that," I nodded.

"Please keep in mind that you could be expelled if you're fighting."

"Even for self defense?" Alex asked.

"Only if you have any proof or witnesses for self defense, then we'll let it slide."

"We understand," I smiled. "We'll try to be extra careful of our actions."

"Good. Now that that is settled, I would like to ask you two a favor."

"What is it?"

"Last Friday, after the teacher conference, I lost my brooch somewhere inside the school."

"You mean the one with the big pearl?" Alex asked.

"The one and only. I don't know what happened back then, but it just fell from my shirt and went missing. I asked everyone's help to look for it, but the only place we hadn't check was the basement."

"So you're saying that you want us to explore the basement and find your brooch?"

"Well, that and I want to find out if it's real. Your family has connections with the majority of the jewelry stores, right? So you two can help me find out about it. Could you do it for me? Pleeease?" She asked with pleading eyes. To me, she sounded like an awkward but desperate woman.

"Uh... I have some questions," Alex said. "First, why didn't you ask the janitor for the key to the basement? And second, don't you think it's a little embarrassing that you'd be asking us like that? I mean, what's with the eyes?"

"To answer the first question, he's been missing since that Friday. I asked his wife, but she said that she hasn't seen him either. We were a little worried, but she said that it's usual for her."

Alex and I stared at each other confusingly before we turned our attention back.

"The second question, I'm not. I'm a desperate woman who has lost her precious gift from her deceased husband. It's the only memento I had from him."

"Oh... sorry..." Alex apologized.

"Not your fault," she smiled.

"One more question, why us?" I asked.

"I trust you two completely. Even though you are new students in this school, I have a feeling that you two will find it for me."

"We're honored, but at the same time confused. Why not the other students like Mei?"

"If I ask the other students, rumors will spread quickly, right?"

"Actually, this will spread even quicker," Alex replied. "But we'll take the quest."

"Thanks, boys," she smiled. "I knew I could count on you. I'll give you two passes so you won't get in trouble while you're finding it."

"Wait! You mean, now?"

"Pleeaase?" She asked once more, this time with a puppy dog pout. It's kinda sick to see some grown woman acting up like a little baby.

"Ugh... Alright, fine," I groaned. "But please don't do that look again."

"Excellent!!" She chimed as she handed us hall passes. "Be sure to hurry boys!"

We were soon excused from the room and stepped into the hallway.

"Well... That was a little awkward, I suppose," I said.

"A little?" Alex tilted his head.

"Alright, I'll admit it. I didn't really expect that. She looked so... creepy, when she does that."

"I believe you want to say childish as well, right?"

"That puppy look... It really gives me the shivers," I tensed as I recalled her look. That look of a brown haired adult woman, trying to impersonate some newborn pups. Her big blue pleading and tearing eyes that stared at us with a big pout on her lips as she dangled her hands under her chin, pretending that those are her paws. I can even hear her trying to copy those canines' soft whimpers. It's cute when a small kid or a dog does that, but a thirty-year-old woman with thick glasses!?

" She's so immature! God! I-I can't get it out of my head!" I groaned and shivered as the image continues to linger.

"Then let's think about something else. How did you fell asleep back there?"

"I dunno," I shrugged as I opened my locker to take out my 'wild' card, or as I like to call it, the other me. "I guess I didn't sleep well last night."

"It's because of me, isn't it?" Alex frowned.

"No it's not," I smiled as I placed my card on my right pocket and closed the locker door. "I can't sleep well because of Lloyd. He's still out there, doing who knows what."

"Oh... I see," Alex sighed in relief. I dunno whether I should be happy or not. He didn't recall any event before his hospitalization, so he didn't remember what that lunatic did to him. But unfortunately, that incident also caused him to forget about all of us.

"Mike? Michael?"

I snapped out of my trance and smiled at him.

"What's wrong?" He gave me a questioning look.

"It's nothing, really," I said. I tilted my head a little to see someone standing in front of the teachers' lounge. He has brown hair and green eyes. He looked like he's in his early twen-wait a minute. That's John.

"John?" I said. Alex turned his head around and saw him as well.

"Hi John!" Alex said.

He turned his head towards us and smiled.

"Hey guys," he said as he approached us.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Do you work here as well?" Alex asked.

"Fraid not," John chuckled. "I'm just here as a sub."

"Whose substitute?"

"The drunk lion that's suffering a major hangover at the moment," he grumbled. I immediately realized who was he talking about, while Alex needed a moment to know who we're talking about. "So why aren't you two in class?"

"We were excused from class to find a missing brooch," I explained.

"Mrs. Elijah, huh?"

"You knew?"

"Ter was talking about it a few days ago."

"Well, we were ordered to find it for her now."

"And skip class?"

"Hey, free passes," Alex showed the papers she gave us.

"You could be missing something important during class."

"Look, can we just go now?" I interrupted. "I wouldn't want to suffer her puppy dog pout again." I shivered once more as I remembered that creepy look once more.

"What kind of a teacher would give something like that?" John questioned.

"A weird one, that's for sure. I swear, this has got to be the weirdest school that I've ever seen and lived through."

"I kinda wondered why the principal never make any teachers' survey for this."

"Let's just get to the basement and finish the job," I said as I proceeded towards our destination. "Come on, you two."

"Wha-!? M-me too?" John asked.

"You're off duty for this period, right? We could use the help," I smiled back.

"Ugh... What have I gotten myself into..." John grumbled.

**BASEMENT** "So how are we going to open this?" I asked the others as we faced the basement door on the end of the hallway. It's a white double door with two small windows on it. One could accidentally think that it's an exit if it weren't...

New series. It's nothing much, just something I came up with when I saw some "inconsistencies" in the other two stories. I hope this helps a little. I also know it's short, so... Anyways, enjoy. Uh... warning. The following story contains...
