The colony is coming along. There's plenty of shelter for everyone, especially since it's no longer just a seven person group. The population has hit just over thirty, and it's going to grow considerably when they get ready for the next generation. Smokey has gone through some changes herself, and she's found a role she feels she can manage without getting in the way. Of course, the needs of the community come first, and they need the reactor Azure, Cyan, and Cerulean have been trying to build. But they don't have the material to make the shielding.

"There's not much left to do to finish phase one of the settlement. We've got enough shelter for everyone and the power distribution network is nearly complete." Azure said.

"Solar cell efficiency is-"

"-almost twenty percent higher-"

"-then our original estimations." replied both Cyan and Cerulean.

"How are the power reserves looking in the replicator's battery banks?" Azure asked.

"Not good." Cyan said.

"Only ten percent remains." Cerulean added.

It had taken a bit of getting used to, the split communication between the twins. But they weren't about to disconnect from one another. The two shorter blue dragons stood in front of a small table-like structure showing a small holographic display of the encampment. They had made serious progress since the storm had ended four months ago. Of course, it would have gone faster if Smokey had let everyone out sooner, but then she was unable to for the first week. After that, she ended up going a few more days, being greedy about not letting everyone out.

Once she finally convinced herself she needed the help her six kids could provide, she released them and they went about building out the camp. Once there was a little more in the way of shelter, the group decided it would be reasonable to go ahead and start on the next generation. Azure had been the first. The two litters that came from her and Smokey, conceived upon landing on the intended target, comprised the second generation. The third and newest generation had been up and about for two months, taking slightly longer than the previous ones to 'cook' all the way to adulthood. And with how many came of that group of litters, the colony was now just over thirty strong.

"We're still keeping use of the replicator restricted to emergency use only, correct?" Azure asked.

"I've been working on identifying plants and minerals I can use to manufacture medicines as needed. Thankfully, our nanites have been doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to contending with illness and injury. Mother has been kind enough to let me use her as a second intensive care unit when I've been too full to take on any additional patients." Sapphire explained.

"And how often do you need to do that?" Azure turned to her sister, looking up slightly at the tall, motherly looking medical expert who had come to call herself the 'village healer'.

"Thankfully, it's pretty rare. We had that one incident where a team of scouts took a nasty fall climbing the nearby mountain range. It took mother and me a solid week to get them back to full health. I have to say, if we could actually get the replicator back in working order and start manufacturing more nanites, it would help considerably." Sapphire said, gazing at her older sister, the colony's 'second in command'.

"The replicator wouldn't be able to produce more nanites-"

"-given their highly complex nature and the rare materials required." Cyan and Cerulean said.

"We would need a fresh infusion of pre-existing nanites to bolster our supply, maybe even program them to make more of themselves. The problem is that requires some very specialized metals and compounds we can't replicate, even if we were running at full power. I've begun sending out teams to scan for ore deposits we can extract and use in more advanced construction efforts. I've even had fishing teams search underwater. There are some promising results." Azure said.

"Well the sooner we can get more nanites the better. I feel a little underequipped for this kind of a setting." Sapphire said.

"I understand how you feel. But our first priority is to get the reactor up and running. Once we have that online, we'll be able to power more sophisticated medical equipment, manufacturing facilities, everything. Including the replicator. And we can't get the reactor online until we have shielding for it." the shorter blue lady said.

"Any luck on that front?" the field medic turned country doctor asked.

"The latest scans from the divers have given me a good idea where we can find the metal we need for shielding. It's pretty deep but it's fairly close. I'm just waiting for mother to get back so we can organize an expedition to see exactly what we're dealing with." Azure answered.

It was fortuitous timing that she mentioned the matriarch of the whole endeavor. Smokey emerged from the lagoon just a few dozen meters away from the encampment, now looking more like a village. She was taller than she had been when she landed, now standing close to three meters tall. She had gained considerable curve to her once streamlined figure, somewhat mirroring Sapphire's build.

Given that they were the two that produced the largest litters of the whole group, it wasn't too surprising that they were designed to handle the added load. Her royal blue scales glistened as water rolled off her. Her long, dark-grey hair clung to her head and the back of her neck. With a shake, she flung a good portion of the moisture off, giving some of her locks reason to come back to life. She was completely naked, save for a belt that served as a place for basic, rudimentary tools to hang from.

She approached the table, towering over her children, gazing at the holographic layout of the settlement. Several of the latest generation stepped back and dipped their head in reverence to the 'great mother'. The big blue lady sighed as she watched them engage in what she felt might be the beginning of a silly religious fervor surrounding her. She would need to nip that in the bud soon.

"How's your day going?" Smokey asked Azure.

"Just trying to keep everything running. How did the fishing go?" the first daughter asked back.

"Pretty well. We aren't going to starve anytime soon. My team is busy cleaning and preserving the catch. We're looking at varying our catching sites. They're going to do a basic analysis of the area and determine what would be the most sustainable way for us to keep harvesting. We don't want to overfish after all." Smokey said.

"We shouldn't be in any danger of that yet. But it's good to get a jump on that now. Preliminary estimates show that when generation four is born, we're looking at a population of around a hundred and fifty." Azure said.

"Really!? That many that fast!?" the tall dragoness balked in shock.

"It's true," Sapphire said, "By my estimate, no one is going to be giving birth to singles anymore, at least not for a while. The average range will be twins to quintuplets. You and I will have the largest litters. I'll end up with six or seven. You could end up with eight or nine."

Smokey's eyes fluttered for a moment as she suddenly felt a little lightheaded. She thought with her added height, another litter of three would be just fine. Now she was looking at three times that for her next clutch. She rest a paw over her enormous stomach. She was already very gravid, but not with unborn children. She had been helping catch fish as one source of food, but she had been pulling double duty. She had a clutch of eggs, unfertilized, that were intended to be used to feed her children. The fish and her eggs combined with what was being grown on the farm and caught by the hunters would all keep the entire family well fed. And the replicator could supply the odd emergency rations if necessary.

"A hundred and fifty... a litter of nine from me. This is ridiculous. Just how big a colony did Swagcorp want set up!?" Smokey cried, not intending anyone to answer.

"They want a thriving, sustainable culture of at least ten thousand." Azure said, making her mother suddenly look dizzy.

"We won't be able to achieve that on our own," Sapphire added quickly, "We'll be able to get up to about a thousand given the available resources and the limitations of our gene pool. The nanites will only be able to stretch so far to prevent genetic abnormalities. We'll either need to get our paws on more nanites or an infusion of fresh genetic material. Preferably both. Unless of course you want to be the primary source of new offspring. You'll have the largest collection of nanites and they'll be able to make the necessary genetic modifications to keep the gene pool diverse."

"Ten... thousand..." Smokey breathed out in shock.

"We're a long way off from that, mom. Don't worry. Right now, we need to focus on the immediate concerns. I know you just finished flushing out all the salt from your system in the lagoon. Are you up to another dip in the ocean?" Azure asked.

"I worry that it'll have to wait a while. The desalinator unit is working as hard as it can to pull what I added to the pool when I jumped in." Smokey replied.

"If my readings are accurate, we should be able to spend enough time away for it to fully recover the lagoon. This is pretty important. I've got coordinates for a vein of ore we could use to make the shielding we need for the reactor." Azure said.

"Yeah? That's good. How is it gonna work out? We just pile it up around the reactor? I didn't think we had the equipment to process complex metals." Smokey said.

"We don't," Sapphire replied, "But... we can get to that later. Keep your transmitter online. I'll be working on some updates for you that you'll need while in-situ."

"Okay, so... just send me the coordinates and I'll go have a look. Maybe I can bring back a sample or two." Smokey said.

"About that..." Azure said, her voice trailing off.

It had taken a bit of convincing, but the group of shorter dragons managed to convince their mother of what needed to be done. Smokey spent at least twenty minutes moaning and squirming up against a tree as she laid her eggs. All told, there were five dozen of the apple-sized orbs, all waiting to be made into a whole host of dishes. Thankfully, the third generation had come with a few children already well versed in the culinary arts. It didn't hurt that they were also experts on primitive survival.

When Smokey's belly was trim once more, she sat there, leaned up against what she called her 'birthing tree' and fought to catch her breath. The whole plan promised to leave her out of breath for most of the day, and no doubt a chunk of the evening, but it was all for an important cause. Azure sat next to the much larger lady, running one of her paws over the flat stomach, giving it a gentle massage as she gazed at it.

"It's funny to think that everything we have, our whole community, came from here. It wasn't that long ago that it was just me in there. Now, I've got so many sisters and daughters. Hell I've even got granddaughters," she looked up at Smokey, "Is that normal back where you came from?"

"To have this many generations this fast... no, absolutely not. At least not for complex life like us." the big blue lady said, sounding tired.

"Well, then maybe that's why they designed the nanites the way they did. It forces us to slow down, settle into a generational cycle that's more like the rest of the galaxy," Azure said, then grinned up at Smokey, "How's it feel knowing you're gonna be mom to a whole civilization?"

"A little too god-like for my taste. Some of the kids have started treating me like I'm royalty or something. Don't let them go too nuts with that. I'm not any kind of high-born aristocrat. I'm not a noble. And I'm damn sure not a deity." the taller lady said.

"I'll see if I can't start adding some sort of education to the mix and make sure we don't turn into a cult. But in all fairness, it would be a pretty sexy cult, don't you think?" Azure offered her mother a wink.

"Oh now don't you start with that. Look, didn't you say we had a mission to complete? Let's get after it. Cyan, Cerulean, go on and 'climb aboard'. We're shipping out soon." Smokey said.

The two relatively short ladies nodded, moving to settle between the 'great mother's legs. They took a brief moment to massage the lady's engorged sac, gently trying to hoist it up and out of the way. Smokey had grown larger--in chest, scrotum, and member--in the last several months. She had been told it was a side effect of whatever process the nanites were doing to her, making her able to birth larger and larger litters. Her height had been part of that. But it was all apparently in service to make her as fertile as possible so that she could fill up the colony as quickly as she could. It did make climbing back into her a little tricky, needing to crawl in under a pair of swells large enough to conceal either of the short ladies trying to enter her. They could just curl up in a tight ball and they wouldn't make a bulge in her sac. It was a point of some discussion, an alternate method of tending to those needing to use the largest supply of nanites still available.

Smokey let her thoughts turn back to what that would be like just as she felt two pairs of paws begin to tug her nethers open and push in. She huffed and let her head crane back and hang loose. A moan rose up out of her, catching the attention of several of the colonists. A few began to approach and tend to their mother's needs. Already her stomach was beginning to swell with the twins. They were crawling in at the same time. She could feel their heads and shoulders stretching her open. Paws began to massage over her tummy as it grew. Others pressed in against her sides, lips latching onto her nipples.

It was a nice little feature she had managed to figure out, being able to keep from leaking, even when she was full. Now, she took no issue with letting her milk flow, feeding her children. One by one they took turns, drinking of the great, heavy breasts that had only grown since the landing. Others wrapped their lips around her shaft. It was quite a feat getting such a large thing into one's jaws, but Smokey had yet to find anyone among the colonists who couldn't do it. She moaned and writhed as she was stimulated so very completely. Cyan and Cerulean continued to crawl in, passing their chests within moments. A sudden 'hiccup' gripped the two ladies, dragging them in up to their waists.

Before Smokey could recover from the suddenness of the tug, others had begun to push on the twins. In moments, the assistance had seen the pair of engineers vanish into their mother right up to their knees. Smokey cried out, flooding the belly of the tall, slender blue lady suckling on her member. A powerful gush gave the third generation dragon's stomach quite the swell. She pulled off when she had gotten all she desired, letting another take her place. It didn't take long for a second, then a third, and even a fourth to get as much as they wanted, none of them needing to worry about eating for the next couple of days.

Smokey lay there against her tree, her eyes glazed over as she groped at her tummy. Cyan and Cerulean had disappeared into her womb completely. Their vitals and status appeared in her field of vision. What had once required an external device she wore on her head had been integrated into her internal physiology thanks to the nanites. She was well and truly a cyborg now. It made her a little uneasy, but she was assured it could all be removed with no ill effects should she so chose it in the future. For now, she simply let the knowledge that she could monitor anyone inside her be of some comfort.

"Okay, that's... that's those two. Azure, you ready to climb in too?" the motherly dragoness asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be, mom. I've been missing riding around in there. When this is over, think I could spend some quality time with you like we used to?" Azure asked.

"Sure. Let's get this mission sorted and we can play all day tomorrow." Smokey replied.

"Oh I was thinking longer than just a single day." the shorter blue lady said with a grin.

"What?" the bigger dragon asked.

"Nothing. Diving in now." Azure shot back quickly.

And it was indeed a dive. With the help of a few of the other colonists, she had immediate access to her mother's petals. She leaned forward, arms outstretched, nose pointed towards her target. In one smooth, fluid motion, she pushed with her legs and eased her way into the waiting heat of her mother's folds. She was in up to her shoulders in no time at all. Smokey returned to her groaning and squirming as her belly began to stretch once more.

Motion churned about under her scales as Cyan and Cerulean moved about to make room for their other mother, the one that had actually given birth to them. The smooth, supple hide of the first daughter brushing against the pulsing flesh wrapped around her brought tingles up along the larger dragon's spine. She was returning into the womb she had been created in. In the back of Smokey's mind, she thought that was where Azure belonged.

The smaller lady's pleasing form glided in with one long slurp, taking but only a few minutes. Her legs vanished from sight and Smokey's petals closed once more. Her belly had grown to larger than she had been with just her eggs. She was heavier too. She might have a little more trouble swimming with these three inside her, but then she was sure they would have some clever way of helping her stay buoyant. Maybe that was what Sapphire was working on, programming her nanites to create a new swim bladder or something.

That ease with which she could be modified rubbed Smokey in such a way as to give her mixed feelings. On one hand, it was terribly convenient, especially the connectivity. She could scan the whole settlement and a generous ways beyond, picking up the signatures of all her children. She could pull data from the weather stations, check on any wirelessly connected piece of equipment, and communicate with anyone. But then everyone had that ability. She could scan the area around her now that she had a sensor array built into her skull. With all she could do now, she could be a formidable mother and guardian to her progeny.

It was considered necessary with a colony so small. As they grew in number, they wouldn't need such constant interconnected communication. There were already plans to cease adding implants of that sort from birth. They would let their sons and daughters decide for themselves if they wanted to be part of the 'great link'. There had been talk of using those implants to share sensations, let one feel what another felt. It was something Sapphire was working on, which would make it easier for her to diagnose and treat her patients. Of course, it would quickly spread throughout the link to be used to share one's intimate moments with their partner.

Smokey thought about that. She had come to enjoy being pregnant, even if it was just a clutch of eggs. And since they were going to need to multiply as much as it sounded like, maybe she could tap into someone who was pregnant when she wasn't and just subsist off of that feeling until she could swell back up again. It was a slightly frightening thought to her, like an addiction she was going to end up feeding relentlessly. Maybe it was wise to turn it off after a certain point.

"Alright, crew's aboard. The 'mother-ship' is heading out." Smokey said as she moved to stand.

As soon as she was on her paws and the weight of her three passengers pushed down on her hips, she huffed and shivered. It felt far too good. She pushed a palm out to lean against her tree, the other groping at her belly. She was in serious trouble if this was indeed how she was to spend the rest of her days, just a tribal leader, constantly producing new children to grow the colony. Slowly, her paw moved down to her groin, gripping at her still drooling shaft. She had 'fed' at least three others as Azure climbed in. Now another was eager for a drink.

She pumped her arm furiously, not wanting to waste time. A chubby boy, a little on the short side, had his lips wrapped around the head of her length, trying his best to help. He was one of the few 'males' that had been born in the third generation. He still possessed all the necessary equipment required to be a mother. He also possessed the same zest and enthusiasm for the job as everyone else. It wouldn't take much to satisfy that urge, just a quick squirt. But they were all refraining. The need to expand the settlement was too great. It wouldn't do for the population to outnumber their capacity to shelter everyone. Still, the whole colony was eagerly awaiting when they could start to breed again.

The mental image of her little boy plumped up and full of life, life that she likely would put in him, sent Smokey to shivering anew. She cried out as her length twitched in the short boy's muzzle, pouring down his throat as she came. He was quite good at that. She might have to come find him again once she was back from her mission. His stomach surged outward, stretching until he looked about like she expected he would were he to carry a litter of his own. He pulled his jaws off his mother's length and licked his muzzle clean, stepping back to look up at her with a smile.

"How was that? I've been practicing with Cobalt. She's got it down to a science." he said.

"Yeah... I'd say so... that was pretty damn good. Thanks honey." Smokey said, quickly looking up his name in the colony database.

She hadn't learned everyone's names just yet. It had all grown too fast for her to keep track of everything. It turned out his name was Chester. They had long decided that the synonyms for 'blue' needed to stop with the second generation. There were only so many to choose from after all. She added him to her short list of those she intended to keep close with. It felt strange, almost unfair, to play favorites like that, but with more than thirty offspring, she was having a difficult go of making sure she was putting in enough face time with them all. And it was only going to get more challenging the more of them were born.

The dragoness turned and waddled her way to the beach. Three other drakes followed her, each of them sleek and slim, built similar to how she once had been. They all appeared male, and they wore the same belt as she did along with a strap that crossed from shoulder to the opposite hip. It was the strap for a small pack they all wore for carrying things back to shore, things they preferred to not swallow. They were fishers after all, and the fish they intended to catch were kept in their stomachs until they were full and had to bring the day's haul back in. It was a simple enough trick, one that Smokey herself seemed to enjoy. All the wriggling and squirming in her middle from devouring half a school. It made her feel like a whale, but she didn't care. So long as her kids were fed, and she could enjoy being big.

Unfortunately, this wasn't a fishing trip. They had other concerns to attend to. Smokey eased herself into the lapping waves, wading in little by little until the water washed up over her head. Her 'escort' had submerged before her, but only by virtue of height. The salty brine washed through the lady's gills and she shuddered, grimacing a little as she adjusted to the saline content. Already she was eager to get back to the lagoon and purge. Hopefully, the trip would be a short one.
