It was the most exhilarating time for any god in all of the vast heavens. The end of one year meant the beginning of another, one god would be coming back from their vacation into mortality and another would be going in. It was tense, but most of heaven was. Laboring for eleven years and being a conduit for mortals to uphold some dynamic of the world was exhausting, even for supreme beings such as Ruul.

Ruul, the dog god of the world, waited patiently beside the seer portal for Osus to return. Normally it was a rigid schedule even down to the second for when one god returned and another god would leave, but at the moment the rooster god was a minute late. Even one minute less in the corporal plane was agony, what the hell could be taking the bastard so long?

Within heaven, Ruul looked like a canine shaped statue. His bipedal form was featureless, his face bore no eyes, mouth, or defining features. His skin was lacking fur and was the texture and color of granite. Save for his ears, long muzzle, and distinct tail, he might not have been recognizable as such. He was also quite thin, as all gods in heaven were. Of course all of this would change once he was able to take his turn down on Earth. If the opportunity would ever come...

Suddenly the seer portal began to warp and shiver. Ruul snapped to attention and his arms dropped to his sides from their folded state across his chest. The portal, of which was a blue vortex that slowly rotated and hovered a couple inches above the ground, pulsed towards the bottom. Then, like a finger pressing against cellophane, it distended and eventually pulled free of a figure that stalked forward on thin legs.

Ruul let out an angry growl and approached Osus. "What the hell took you so long? What makes you think you can steal some of my time?" The dog god's voice was deep and thrumming, it vibrated the air like his very words were invisible fire.

"Calm down, Ruul, I wanted to have one last drink before my time was up. I'm sure you can relate." The rooster god's voice was much softer and held an air of relaxation, it made sense at least. If there was anyone in heaven that would be calm and collected, it would be the god that just got back from Earth. He looked similar to Ruul in that he was a featureless avien-shaped statue.

"I will not tolerate having my time wasted just because you wanted something so foolishly extra. Plan better next time or I'll-"

"Or you'll what?" Osus interrupted with a laugh. While forbidden to fight, that didn't mean gods didn't, and the only thing that could hurt a god was another god. "You do realize that scolding me only eats away at your time down there. Better get a move on."

Realization dawned within the dog god and he suddenly turned towards the portal. Osus was right, it was his time now. The year of the dog was now. "This conversation isn't over," Ruul spat before he sprinted towards the seer portal and dove through.

He impacted the portal and it bent inwards, not unlike how Osus had come out of it. Then it folded around him and the glowing white and fuzziness of paradise was transformed into a swirling vortex of colors. Purples mixed with reds in a kaleidoscope effect and gravity suddenly seemed to take a hold of of the dog god. Ruul began to plummet towards a distant black point in the vortex. His arms closed in at his sides and he angled himself head down like a diver expecting to hit water.

This was where it all came into being. Magic poured from his body and mixed with that of the portal. On his descent towards the corporal plane of existence, he was able to sculpt himself whatever body he desired.

Last time he had chosen a German shepherd with a moderate build, like someone that had trained themselves to run marathons. He didn't want that this time, it was a form he didn't find too attractive for himself. This was a one time thing after all, whatever avatar he chose he would be stuck with for the next entire year.

No, this time he would choose an avatar that reflected his inner core, strong and powerful but cunning and diligent. He was a hard worker, he would need a breed that reflected it, and one that didn't look out of the ordinary to house his physique. As he decided on the final details of who he was going to be, the black point approached rapidly, swelling exponentially as he told he seer portal that he was ready to come to Earth. He hit the center of the black void and was born into reality.

Jaid had her eyes glued to the small digital watch on her wrist. This was quite unusual, normally he would have been there by now. She hoped something bad didn't happen. Hell, what could happen to a god to delay him on his vacation? She glanced up to the precise spot that he was supposed to land, the exact same spot that he had landed for as long as she had known him, which was about three centuries.

She gave a soft sigh and folded her arms over her flat belly as she leaned back against her unassuming, silver sedan. She was a breathtakingly beautiful mink, her body holding a precise curve that was molded by the dog god himself. She had wide hips and an ample bust, her hair was cut short and her tentative ears flicked at the slightest sound from where she was. Curious, dark blue eyes peered at the far corner of the parking garage that she was in and her soft lips were held in a tight line.

Jaid was the dog god's faithful personal assistant, second only to Ruul himself. On the eleven years that he wasn't on Earth, she was tasked with managing every minute detail of his finances and his estate. She made was smarter by his magic and even given an ability to forecast into the future some distance. It allowed her to have an upper hand on keeping everything that the dog god owned, his.

As such, Ruul was a very wealthy individual on Earth, even if he didn't always look the same when he visited or have himself known to the public eye. In fact, none of the gods had their true identities known to anyone but a select group of confidants that were held to near cult-like allegiances.

As Jaid checked her watch one more time the air around where she was suddenly became heavy. Less than a second later there came a cacophonous blast that shook the parking garage accompanied by a brilliant, blinding flash. It was as if lightning had struck a few yards away without her being out in the open. When the spots cleared from her vision, she peered to where the explosion took place.

A smokey cloud revealed the silhouette of a powerful figure. Ruul stepped forward from the gray cover and into the dull yellow light of the parking garage. The image that came to Jaid was one of a towering husky, his physique like that of an Adonis, muscular and intimidating. His proud eyes shown a pure light with no iris or pupil, where he looked was like being shown with a mild flashlight.

The dog god stretched his thick arms out at his sides and flexed, his biceps bulged like bowling balls were hidden within his flesh. He let out an excited howl and continued forward, the last of the smoke dissipating to show his naked form. A thick sheath and plump set of balls garnered the woman's attention and she giggled as she caught his eye.

"Hello, my beloved," Ruul rumbled, his voice deep like distant thunder. He didn't stop until he was just a couple feet away.

"Hello, my liege. Welcome back to Earth. And happy New Years." She gazed at him with devoted adoration and folded her paws in front of her. A low murr developed in the dog god's throat and emanated to fill the room. His divine eyes looked her up and down, noticing right away that she was wearing a simple trench coat, one that went from her shoulders all the way down to her knees. It was an ensemble he wasn't familiar with.

"I hope I didn't worry you too much with my tardiness. The cock god thought to take an extra two minutes to himself. The selfish prick." He tried not to let so much anger fill his words. It wasn't appropriate. After all, now was a time to celebrate. "Anyway, how have things been? I look forward to reading a detailed report of my accounts and estate on the ride home."
