In a valley far from any place that you or I would know there lived a man with his wife and daughter. The man was special and gifted with the ability to turn back and forth into a horse as he pleased. His wife, although not sharing his same gift, had chosen to love him for everything that he was and welcomed the chance to share their lives together. His daughter had been born of a similar heritage to himself and wore signs of her other shape across her body. She had a curling mane that trailed down her back along with two sloped ears and a tail that whipped with delight whenever he would hug her in his arms. She always had a way of getting herself into mischief, even from the time she was tiny, and so he had named her Bramble. It had been one of the greatest joys of his life watching her continue to grow as the days and seasons passed by.

********

On a bright, hot summer day the girl's father decided that it would be a good day to spend some time outside with Bramble for a ride around their land. The sun stroked his back with its pleasant, uniform touch as he continued focusing more deeply on the image of his other self growing more clear in his mind's eye. He could already feel his entire body growing a bit warm, and as the image of the stallion within him grew more vivid, racing across the boundless field of green in his thoughts with stunning clarity, he felt the first twinges of change.

Those beginning twinges soon gave way to more rapid and pronounced pulsing waves as his body began to grow with layers of muscle filling in along his neck, chest, and legs. He pressed his hands gently into the grass as his fingers stretched and thickened, and he could feel a similar set of changes taking place in his feet. He arched his neck forward and opened his eyes for a brief moment to gaze at his body caught wonderfully in the cascading whirlwind of his changes, a coat of white hairs appearing in large swaths across his body. He closed his large, icy blue pools and delved back into the change with renewed vigor, grunting a bit at the tug of muscle and bone around his face, but simultaneously reveling in the relative ease with which the changes came, finding this form much more easily now than when he had first discovered it all those years ago.

And as his body continued to grow and the last few changes rolled over him, he breathed a few deep heaving breaths before calming down and opening his eyes to gaze over at his little Bramble who had been seated beside him watching the entire time. Her eyes were full of delight, awe, and pride for her dad and seeing his changes were done, she moved from her spot to gently wrap her arms around his neck and hum a sweet, pleased tone. He blew a warm stream of air through his nostrils against the top of her head, making her laugh and snuggle him even tighter.

"Papa, you look amazing!!!" , she said while her hands trailed down his neck as far as she could reach.

He took a full breath with his huge, barreled lungs, feeling the strong drumming of his heart within his chest, still slowing down from the effort associated with the change. Although his voice had a different timbre to it in this form, sounding much deeper as the air rolled up the length of his neck, it still had the same loving comfort she had come to know quite well.

"Thank you sweetie. Are you ready to go for a ride?" he spoke while stretching out his forelimbs from where he lay resting in the grass. Bramble nodded her head sharply in a resound yes, and he leaned his neck in towards her so she could hop onto him while he was laying down. She gripped his mane and hoisted herself up near the base of his neck, sliding back into a more comfortable spot. He could feel her rubbing her cheek into his long mane and he nickered happily with caring warmth before slowly rising up to stand. He gathered his legs underneath himself and felt his muscles around his hips flex strongly as he stood tall. Bramble voiced a happy, giggling sound along with a small "Woah", and he could nearly feel the light of excitement radiating from her.

Her legs hung down from where she was seated and from time to time he felt her brush the sides of her feet against him. He arched his neck around so he could get a good look at her, and had a deep feeling of paternal pride seeing his daughter so happy here with him. H then looked forward to where the gate was already open and pricked his ears in its direction.

"Hang on tight to my mane Baby Girl. We'll start nice and easy and then as we get out further we can do a bit more." He felt her rub her palm into his mane in response. "Ok Papa. I will." They set out at a slow, relaxed pace, and even with Bramble on his back, the added strength of this form made it feel like he was barely carrying anything at all. Birds sang a medley of songs in the trees and the earth was firm beneath his hooves. Bramble was looking about in all directions and reaching out for branches they'd get close to. He didn't feel any tension or nervousness from her as she easily settled into the motions of riding him.

They approached a more open grassy expanse with trees much more greatly spaced apart and he stopped abruptly for a moment with a quick flick of his tail. He swooped his head around and gave her his best approximation of a smile in this form before looking ahead, pawing at the ground with his hooves.

"Would you like me to go faster Bramble? This spot would be good for it." She smiled back at him and nodded, making the father chuckle lovingly with rolling snorts for a moment as he felt her grip his mane quite tight. He started out across the field in a slow walk again before building up into a steady trot. His little girl gripped his sides a little tighter with her legs and he could hear her breathing a little deeper, knowing that faster was more fun for her. He mustered more effort and built his trot up faster and faster into a rapid canter, and heard Bramble laughing with joy above him. Feeling steady, he felt Bramble's hands release from his mane for a moment to stretch her arms out wide, and he could imagine she was reveling in this matchless sense of connection to both her dad and her world.

She returned her hands to his mane and he voiced a loud neigh before he broke out into a full gallop, his hooves thundering across the landscape as he reached his head and neck forward with each stride. His daughter pressed herself up against the base of his neck from her seat for added support, and after a few more long, powerful strides he began to ease and slow. H spotted a large tree ahead and stopped completely beneath its shade, his chest heaving from exertion and to his happiness, Bramble was still laughing from her perch on top of him.

"Papa, papa, you were so fast!!! You ran with the wind!" Then she buried her face into his mane and snuggled him tight, their love and connection between one another both joined and amplified in this fleeting moment of time.
