A New Life in a New Body
The Mission Part 2
Well for the next couple of days we just hung out, doing touristy things as not to raise suspicion. I feel that Sherri is becoming more attracted to me but I doubt it. My hope probably never will be answered. I enjoyed the time I had spent with her. The morning of the assassination attempt I woke up first and climbed into the shower. I stood in there for half an hour planning on how it would go down.
I was to be up in the tower for at least two hours before the speech began. I would then wait for the signal, two flashes from a mirror. I wanted him to be lulled into a state of ease. Then Sherri would grab Falinco, assassinate-ees right hand man, and bring him to me. I would hold him for at least half an hour till she got back from bringing the transport.
"How are you doing," Sherri called to me.
"Not too bad," I called back.
"You feeling sick," she asked.
"Just the usual jitters," I replied.
"I hate that feeling," she replied
"You remember the plan," I asked.
"Yes of course," she said, clearly annoyed.
I come out of the bathroom. "I just want to let you know if the mission goes south and I die, that I love you," I admitted.
I left after that she knew I would I needed to make sure I knew how bad the weather was to make a few minor adjustments. God I am such an idiot now she thinks I'm crazy. I went to the tower with two hours before and watched them set up for the speech.
Two hours later, the crowd was all set up and he had just begun to talk. Five minutes into the speech I got the signal, time to kill. I aimed a little to the left to compensate for the winds and height. At least I would probably blow his arm off.
I took a deep breath and waited several seconds. Then I applied pressure to the trigger. A slight coughing sound was all that came out. I watched as his head popped like a balloon and blood and brain mass were all around his dead, bloody body.
I then took apart my rifle and slung the bag over my shoulder and walked over to the ladder. I gripped the sides with my hands and put my feet on the outsides of the ladder. I slid down and upon landing I broke my leg. It hurt like hell but I still ran to the location where we were supposed to meet.
Five minutes later Sherri showed up with Falinco. She handed him off to me and left. About seventeen minutes later he started yelling for help. A group of at least twenty to thirty showed up they had only their fists so they were outnumbered. I pulled out my pistol and put it to my head.
"Move any closer and I shoot myself then him. I swear I've done it before," I said in an attempt to keep them away from me.
Just then Sherri showed up I threw him up onto the truck then climbed up myself. We made it to the base ok then we were sent home with a mission success. We were on two different gunships because of my injury. When we arrived back home I was taken to the infirmary.
For a few days Sherri didn't show up and I hated myself, why did I have to tell her that? It was the stupidest thing I ever said in my whole fucking life I kid myself not. She was showing up just not while I was awake. A few days later she actually showed up while I was awake.
"How are you feeling," she asked.
"Incredibly good, I mean other than the broken leg," I said.
"That's just like you," she said laughing.
"Well you know me I hate to complain," I said.
Then out of nowhere she kissed me full on the lips. I mean it wasn't bad, but it was just unexpected. I pushed her away from me, not in anger but in surprise. I felt wonderful, but it just wasn't the appropriate time. From that point after that I told the nursing staff that I didn't want her in my room.
"Hey Mike, are you listening," Lisa asked annoyed.
"Oh sorry I was just thinking," I said apologetically
"About what," she asked.
"Nothing," I said
"You always think about nothing," she said jokingly.
"Yeah not much goes on up here," I said.
