#34 of Short Stories

A corgi is intimidated by the massive machines about their daily life.

~ The corgi squirmed uncomfortably in his seat. The plastic molded furniture was not an improvement to his overall comfort, especially combined with the soft rumble of the machines that surrounded him. He never felt quite at ease amongst machines, and these particular machines seemed to possess an unnerving combination of greed and compliance. He leaned over to address the nearest of the hulks of steel and logic, "I can trust you, right? You won't share my secrets with anyone?"

~ Across the room, deeper in the facility, several machines let out a dull tone. They were requesting attendance by an organic life form, assistance to complete their task. The corgi ignored them and continued to whisper to his newly designated friend. "When I'm done here, I'm heading to the privacy of home."

~ Several foxes scurried over to attend to the demands and requests of the vocal boxes, providing it with the requested materials and relocation of bulk. The corgi continued, "And when I get home, I'm going to put on underwear." The foxes returned to their seats, slumping over tiredly.

~ The disclosure of this revelation set the corgi at a bit of ease, and he settled back into his seat as comfortably as he could manage. He relaxed for several minutes, until a particularly relevant machine ceased its rumble and went silent. This caught the corgi's attention, just as he was starting to feel judged by his confidant. As he rose he explained to the machine, "Well, I ran out of clean ones.", before dragging his laundry basket over to retrieve his clothes from the dryer.
