A Boy and His Dog [Chapter 2]
#1 of A Boy and His Dog
 ...
"Err.....who...how....," Shugo stuttered slightly. His eyes never left the large teal furred Doberman who replaced the small puppy he had the night before. This dog had grown from a small non anthro puppy to a seemingly tall, somewhat muscled Doberman. He still was sleeping soundly but the human was feeling completely different. Before making any more noise, Shugo ran off to the bathroom, turning on the sink and splashing water on his face.
"What I saw wasn't there, he kept telling himself. ' There IS no anthro in my bed right now...he's just a little puppy! There's nothing wrong with that!" He took a deep breath as he shut the water off, looking at himself in the mirror. "Calm down Shugo....you is not crazy....you're not crazy..." After taking one last breath he peeks out of the bathroom slowly, and to his disbelief, the anthro dog was still there. With a small meep, he ducked back into the bathroom, looking out again. The dog took a long yawn before his eyes opened.
"H-he's...okay..." the human thought with relief. A slight flutter flew through the human's heart as the canine sat up, his back towards Shugo. His nose pointed up into the air as he seemed to get adjusted to the air before looking to the left and to the right of him.
"He's really observant..." the human whispered to himself silently. "It's kind of cute watching him like this though..." With renewed confidence, the human stepped out of the bathroom and stepped slowly towards the dog. The canine's ear's flicked some as he immediately turned his head to look for the source of the noise. His eyes made contact with Shugo and he just stopped, staring at the human. Shugo's gaze met his, making the human stop his advance as well.
"Err...h-hi....R-Reikhan...right?" the human sputtered a bit. The dog's eyes widened as the human mentioned his name and he turned around fully, looking at Shugo. "You...were hurt in an accident yesterday...so I brought you home with me after a visit from the vet..."
Suddenly, as he heard the word "Vet" Reikhan yipped backing away from the human, falling off the side of the bed with a small thud. Upon impact, he whimpered softly. Shugo gasped as the dog fell, rushing to his aid.
"Are you okay big guy---," the human started, but was interrupted by the dog growling slightly. Reikhan got on all fours, rearing his back in a position hinting that he was going to strike the human. Shugo's purple eyes went wide as he raises his hands in front of his body. Why was he acting this way? "All I said was I took you to the vet..." one again, Reikhan whimpered slightly, backing into the wall of Shugo's room. Feeling himself cornered, he started to whimper. His tail tucked in between his hind legs and his slender body started to curl up, receding. Shugo couldn't believe that this anthro was acting so much like a small puppy until he realized that something must be going on within the dog's mind. He figured, if he's acting like a puppy...then...
Shugo squatted down as much as he could to match Reikhan's eye level. The dog let out a soft growl, pushing back against the wall. The human slowly extended his hand towards the dog, whose head lifted slowly.
"That's it boy..." the human cooed softly. " I'm not going to hurt you...." His hand was a few inches away from the dog's muzzle. Reikhan looked wary of the human, staring him down as he carefully sniffed at his hand. "That's right boy...are you a good boy?"
Reikhan's ears fluttered at the words "good boy," there for he responded with a soft bark and a flick of his tail. The human chuckled softly. "Who's a good boy?" The dog's tail started to wag as he began to lick the human's hand. Shugo carefully reached over the dog's head, who watched the entire motion. His hand descended towards Reikhan head in order to pet it, only for the dog's head to push into it.
"Aww..." the human said softly, petting the anthro's head. Reikhan's tail waggled around really fast and soon with another yip, he pounced on the human, making Shugo yelp slightly. His paws caught Shugo's arms, pinning him down as his slurped over his face, knocking his glasses off of it. The human could help but cry out in hysteria as the dog showed him traditional canine affection.
"Hee! S-Stop it boy! Stop!" Shugo cried out, wriggling under the dog's grip. Reikhan slowed down a little towards a complete halt all together, sitting down in front the human on his haunches. Shugo squinted as he sat up, feeling around for his misplaced glasses. "Ahh... here they are..." Blowing the dust off of them he replaces them on his face, only for his blurred vision to be clear to view the sight of Reikhan's exposed maleness. In a quick blush he turned away, leaving the dog tilting his head. He whimpered slightly and yipped, placing his paw up on the human's knee. His fingered seemed to grip it softly and the human looked at him again, this time making sure NOT to look down.
"Reikhan...my name is Shugo..." the human started. He thought that if he tried talking normally with Reikhan, he might start talking right back with him. "Can you say Shuuu...go?"
"Wuf wuf!!!" Reikhan replied with a slight pant. Shugo sighed softly. This dog is too cute.
"Okay..." he stands to his feet, stretching slightly. " Can you stand up boy?" Reikhan's head tilted as the human asked this question. Shugo soon bent down and took hold of Reikhan's paws slowly. The dog whimpered and softly jerked his paws back. Shugo blew a small breath from his nose in dis-approval. But then he got an idea.
"Here boy!" he pats his lap twice. Reikhan responded with a yip, his upper body reaching up and grabbing Shugo around the edge of his boxer shorts. The dog ended up on his knees, nuzzling the human's stomach, his paws wrapped around him like he was hugging him. "Ack! O-okay boy...now.." he reached down to pull the dog up on his hind paws, grunting slightly due to the dog's un predicted upper body weight but he finally got the dog to stand on his hind paws. "Good boy!" the human said, reaching up to give him a pet on the head.
"Urf?" The dog looked confused as he had to look down at the human now. Along with looking at the human, he looked around once again. Seeing the lights, dresser, bed and everything else, he seemed to relax a bit. He looked back at Shugo with a slight smile. The human looked Reikhan over, making sure not to let his eyes too down for too long. The being that stood before him had a slight muscled build, along with all of his teal markings in areas that they would be if he were a regular non- anthro. Reikhan's marks would have indicated that he is indeed a Doberman with weird coloring if it weren't for the mid-sized tail he had. His tail had the short length of a dog, yet the fluffiness of a wolf's tail.
"He could be part wolf..." Shugo said aloud, just to be met with a bark from Reikhan. "Oh right! Um...sit boy...." The dog looked confused, and Reikhan tried it again, this time with a small hint of softness in his voice. "Sit boy." Reikhan's eyes seemed to brighten up as he sat, smiling happily. The human sighed softly. He's so innocent, the human thought. He turns away from the dog for a second to root through his dresser, searching for something the dog could wear. Reikhan looked on with a blank stare, watching the human turn back to him again, this time with some garments.
Making the dog move a little, he whipped a button-up shirt around him and lifted his arms into the sleeves. After getting those on, he proceeded to out some boxer shorts on the dog, only to find himself looking at the dog's maleness, and looking away in embarrassment. He just couldn't get over being that close to another male. His attention was adverted when he felt the dog's paw on his hand, pulling it up, along with the underwear, therefore covering himself up quite nicely. In slight astonishment, the human smiled as he calmed down a bit.
"Good Boy!" he praised. Reikhan responded with a small smile. Shugo then got him some pants and started to put them on him, only to be stopped while the dog pulled them on himself, with little to no assistance at all. Is he regaining his common sense? This thought went through the human's mind as he started to dress himself. One shirt and a pair of pants later he turns back to the dog. Seeing the human, Reikhan yipped a little. "Alright Reikhan, are you hungry?" Reikhan looked down, as if he were thinking about it, and then soon looked up at Shugo, giving a full nod of his head. Shugo's eyes widened with confusion and excitement.
"You understand me boy?" the human asked. Reikhan looked to his left, then his right, as if seeking something, but soon his eyes met with the human's and he nodded again. Shugo felt his heart flutter again. He was at a loss for words looking at the dog. He's really...good.., the human thought. I wish we would just talk to me.
Later on in the kitchen, Reikhan was seated on his haunches in the middle of the floor while the human was busy at the stove, cooking any form of meat he could find in his refrigerator; eggs, bacon, ham slices, anything to feed the unusual dog with. Reikhan's nose pointed into the air as he observed the human cooking. Shugo huffed a small breath as he layered all of it on a plate and squatted down, placing the dish in front of the dog, sighing softly as he leaned down on all fours, sniffing at the meal before he started eating heavily. Aww...in my clothes...the human thought. But on the other hand...if he can't walk upright he just can't walk. Reikhan looked up at the human who was staring him down and whimpered slightly, making the human jolt slightly.
"Ah... I'm sorry boy! "Shugo said getting red in the face. " I didn't mean to scare you." He stopped talking at the sound of the plate sliding across the floor. Reikhan had pushed his plate over to the human, which had but only one love strip of bacon left from his meal. The dog looked up to the human, yipping softly as he pushed the plate even closer with his nose.
"No boy...you eat it," the human said softly. Then the dog shook his head. The human's eyes went wide as the dog's muzzle slowly opened.
"Y-you...aren't...hungry?" the dog strained. His voice sounded a bit childish but the human understood him completely.
"R-Reikhan???" the human started. The dog sat up looking him in the eye with his tail wagging. Shugo thought, he can speak now? "Um, why is it that...you..." the dog's head tilted slightly. Uh, never mind." He took the one remaining slice of bacon from the dog's plate and slowly bit into it. Reikhan watched the human's every move. This made Shugo somewhat nervous. The dog was just acting like a small puppy a few minutes ago and now he seems aware of everything. As the last bite of the meat went in the human's mouth, the dog just stared at the human with curiosity.
"So who are you anyway?" he suddenly asked. The human coughed a little at the sudden voice but soon recovered.
"I-I'm Shugo," he started. "You were hit by a car and I took you to the vet when you were...a puppy..." He felt awkward calling this large anthro a pup. "You don't remember any of that?" Reikhan looked at him hard, as if he were staring into the very recesses of the human's mind.
"I really don't know," the dog said. "I remember waking up in this strange place before I saw you." His eyes seemed to wander slightly. "I was hit by a car?"
"Yes!" the human said again. "You didn't seem to be alive when I saw you land in the street. I picked you up, rushing you to the vet." Shugo's mind started to flashback to yesterday and its events; all the way up to the rhino doctor. "Oh yeah!" he said with realization. "You gotta go back." The dog's ears flattened a bit.
"I do?" he asked with a low whimper. Shugo nodded softly. "I...don't like hospitals..."
"Don't worry b--- ah Reikhan" he said. "I'll be there. And besides he might be able to help you." He reached his hand out slowly and the dog hesitantly put his paw in it, and smiles softly. "Now can you stand up on your hind legs, like me?"
"Um..." the dog bent forwards, pushing himself up with his forearms, soon allowing himself the proper balance as he slowly rises to his feet. "There...I think...*his stance had him leaned to the side before Shugo grasped his shoulder, straightening him up.
"Ah," the dog let out a soft cry, leaning forward. Shugo thought he was going to fall; preparing himself, he held his arms out for the dog to support himself, only to feel furry arms wrapping around his torso. Shugo gasped the sudden movement, feeling him being tightened in the hug.
"I don't know what's going on..." Reikhan said. "But I felt like doing his to you for some reason." His tail was fagging faster than before. "Glad I did because it feels really nice!" Shugo's heart fluttered yet again with some form of affection for the canine. This felt so comfortable, as if this was meant for him. The first time the dog "hugged" him, it seemed really awkward, but this time...
"So now what?" Reikhan asked, releasing the human who's was still a bit woozy from the hug.
"Oh...um, we're going to the vet," he noticed the dog shudder slightly. "But it shouldn't be more than a simple check up. " He gave a smile to get the dog to calm down, which seemed to hit its mark.
"Alright Reikhan, breathe in nice and deep," the rhino said, resting his stethoscope on the dog's back. Reikhan replied with a deep sigh. "Alright boy, everything is well." The rhino rubs his hand along the dog's head, making him mur softly, his eyes shut as he pushes into it. "Shugo..."
"Ahh! Y-Yes?" the human sputtered, his eyes glancing at the dog.
"As far as my examination goes, he's in good health. The only thing that concerned me," he stopped to lay a finger under the dog's chin, scratching it lightly, causing for Reikhan's tail to wag and his hind paw to twitch. "He acts so much like a feral being." The human nodded in agreement.
"If you remeber, when I brought him in, he was just a battered puppy dog." Shugo said. "I left him alone to sleep last night but when I woke up..." The rhino looked at the dog in confusion. Reikhan looked back at him with a goofy look on his face.
"That trait is an ability that rare species are able to perform," the rhino said, picking up Reikhan's paw, looking at it closely. "It is likely that our buddy here has some sort of genetic mutation of some sort, which allows him to make such transformations. Along with this weird coloring of the fur."
"But that's not weird," the human piped up. I have two vulpine buddies who are identical twins, yet their fur colors are blue and purple." Shugo looked up to the ceiling. "I've known them for quite a while, so I doubt it's some kind of weird fur dye."
"Heh, you'd be surprised," the rhino said, softly rubbing the dog's head and chin sequentially, causing him to go nuts. "So is he staying with you now?" Shugo's face started to feel a bit warm as he thought about it, even though it wasn't needed.
"Y-yes, I figured I could watch over him until his memories were to come back." The human said. "Plus it's pleasant having him around. My house is really quiet."
"I see. Then I suppose any and all medical billing can go to your address then?" The human's brows rise with a confused look, causing the rhino to chuckle heartedly. "You didn't think these visits were free did ya?
"Ah, no sir!" Shugo said promptly with a slight laugh of his own.
Additional paperwork was done and with a shake of a giant hand, Shugo and Reikhan, who conveniently shrunk to his puppy form randomly, walked out of the clinic. Shugo's mind was a slight whirlwind of thoughts as the last thing the doctor said to him echoed through it.
"Be careful what is said or done during this time and he get's his memory. "The rhino had said. "In this case of amnesia, the only things the victim can remeber are key items such as their name and basic bodily movements, but when their memories do return, anything that was said or learned during this time will be whipped from their mind to be replaced with all the knowledge and memories learned previous to the amnesia..." Shugo looked up to the clear sky while walking towards the park area. Reikhan got excited and started hopping around.
Can I go play for a while?" The human froze in his tracks, his eyes slowly looking down to the puppy.
"You...you can talk...as a pup???" the human asked. Reikhan sat down looking at him.
"Naturally...well, I guess so... I've talked a lot but some folks haven't been listening too well. Guess you can understand me. The dog gave what looked like a toothy grin on his tiny muzzle before walking off through the park field. His small body soon left the human's view as it went into the taller grass, which hid him completely from sight. Soon, Shugo saw a small dog prancing around through the tall grass, hopping up and over in a small arch, landing in a new spot every time. Shugo walked over to the park's fountain, which had a small statue of what looked to be a mermaid holding a pot, thus where the water was being ejected. Inside, the human could see coins of various values scattered within the waters, the water blurring every time recycled water fell from above.
"These things normally don't work but oh well," the human said, shuffling through his pockets for a coin. Pulling out a lone quarter, he closed his eyes, visualizing his wish, and then flipping it into the water. Looking closely as it decented , he saw that it fell on "Tails".
"Heh... of course not." Shugo scoffed with some disappointment as he turned back to where he last saw Reikhan. Not seeing him anywhere, he whistled a small, tune-less whistle. The tall grass shifted slightly, so Shugo decided to call his name.
"Reikhan!!!" the human called. "Come here, boy!" As his voice rang out, he saw a large dog's head, teal markings and all. Shugo gasped slightly as a large sized dog came running out of the grass and dashing towards him, full speed. With loud barks, he jumped at the human, causing Shugo to yell out as his balance failed, making him fall backwards into the fountain. Shugo felt the cold water and immediately jumped up as soon as he could looking down at what appeared to be Reikhan, in a Doberman sized form. He barked softly, sitting at attention in front of Shugo, looking up at him with blue eyes. The human's disgust soon faded as he pet's Reikhan, patting his wet pant leg, signaling the dog to walk with him as they headed back the house.
"Alright boy," Shugo said opening the door to a fully equipped bedroom. "This is now your room." Reikhan peeked in looking around. There was a full sized bed in the corner of the room, along with a dress, full sized mirror, and a stand with a television on it.
"Wow," the dog said walking in. The first thing he did was crawl into the bed, sniffing it before getting on all fours. He then pawed around on the blanket, turning his entire body three times, then lied down, bending his hind legs down in what would be an uncomfortable position for a human to do unless they were very flexible. "Where are you gonna sleep?" The human snickered slightly at the dog's remark.
"In my room silly," the human said, giving the dog's head a rub. "I'm only across the hall so if you need anything don't be afraid to bark. I'll come to you okay?" The dog nodded a bit. "Good night Reikhan."
"Niiight Shugo! See ya tomorrow." The dog lied his head down on his crossed paws watching the human close the door. Shugo's eyes felt a bit wet but he wiped them real quick. What was he crying for? He would soon see the dog again the next day. Walking to his room, he climbed into his bed taking his glasses off, facing the ceiling, reminiscing over the day's events. What the doctor had said earlier was conflicting with the wish he had made during the park visit. His mind had wondered for about an hour before his eyes grew heavy with exhaustion. Rolling over on his side, his eyes faced the red digital readout of the clock, which said eleven-thirty. He was about to drift off when he heard his room door squeak open. His eyes snapped open a bit as his heart skipped a beat. Did someone break in? He shuddered slightly at the thought, soon worrying about Reikhan.
"Shugo...." A low recognizable voice said. Shugo's body sat up to see Reikhan, wearing nothing but his pajama pants loaned from him, standing in the door way.
"Rei...wh-what's wrong?"
"I'm...kind of afraid to sleep by myself." The dog said looking down pitifully. "Can I sleep in your bed?" The human's heart fluttered again at the thought, this time he would be sleeping WITH an anthro. While he was happy to have the dog ask him this, he also felt sorry for him, asking like a child.
"Sure you can," the human replied. The dog got into the bed with the human on top of the covers and soon stretched out on all fours. His body glowed a soft light as he took the form of his puppy self, then burrowed his way under the covers against the human.
"Good night Shugo."
"Um...good night Reikhan," he replied with slight disappointment but was still happy to be in the same company of the dog. He soon fell asleep; dreaming of what could come next.
