Eventually, the glamour of the break soon died down, bringing back the harsh reality of school. It wasn't long before all of us had come back, well almost all of us. We had found out the first day that Ryan Godsey and the brothers Sun, Runo, and Hinori had all settled down permanently in Sacramento, California, where their parents could provide a better life for them. When we found the news, all four of them gave an extensive goodbye letter.
It was a bittersweet return. Our Motley crew had felt much smaller. Me, Morrell, Jason, Jake, Adair, Nokemy, the Lucian Brothers, Alduin, and Dustin were all that were left. Together we made twelve, we felt then that we would be whole again with just one more person in the group.
Luckily, it wasn't long before that piece was about to become reality. A couple of days since the New Year, Nokemy was sitting in his art class, working on a couple of his private sketches, when his teacher came in with a new student.
"Alright class," the female mongoose began, "I want you all to meet Altoryu, make him feel welcome here." Everyone stared, especially Nokemy. Altoryu was a tall, muscle built dragon. His scales were silver, except for his inner scales in the middle, which were gold, and shone brightly off of the light, making him look even more hypnotizing. He was only wearing a thin white muscle shirt, and some complementary black shorts. He held a few schoolbooks in his hands. You would almost think he wasn't a high school student. All the women were staring at him. Some in awe, some lustfully, even the teacher couldn't help but look at the muscles. The only other person staring like that was Nokemy, and the monkey just had a feeling, that he could be the new guy in the group. He could only hope that he was into that stuff.
"Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself," the teacher suggested, the dragon nodded slowly.
"Ok, hmm," he said, "well I came from Australia, so it's definitely a lot different here. I'm starting here halfway through my freshman year. I like to play music mostly, and do a little art here and there. Another hobby is the occasional video game, and I like to exercise a little regularly." A little exercise seemed like a little bit of an understatement with those muscles he had.
"Thanks Altoryu," the teacher said, "why don't you take a seat next to Nokemy here and we'll get started with the class." Altoryu did slowly, he seemed a little bit shy sitting next to the monkey for some reason. Nokemy had a quick thought.
‘I think I'll try my hidden Homo test,' he thought, ‘just to make sure if he's gay or not.' While Altoryu wasn't looking, he inconspicuously dropped his pencil on the floor, then whispered to him. "Psst, excuse me, but I dropped my pencil on the floor, can you get it for me?"
"Uh, sure," he whispered back and leaned away from him. While the dragon looked down, Nokemy took a quick glance at his ass, comparing that with the shyness his silver tailed showed.
‘Yep, he's gay alright,' He thought as the dragon came back up with his pencil. "Aw thanks. So, what part of Australia are you from." The dragon hesitated a bit.
‘It seems weird he would come onto me so fast,' The dragon thought, ‘does he possibly know that I'm in the closet?' "Well, Queensland mostly, but I've been a little around the country."
"How are you liking it here in America?" The monkey asked, keeping quiet so the teacher won't hear.
"A little," he said, "it's just that everyone's a complete stranger here."
"Well, we certainly don't have to be strangers," he said smiling, "me and all my other friends would be just delighted to meet you, don't worry, they all have the same secret you do."
"How did you know?" The dragon asked confused.
"Trust me," Nokemy said, "I have my ways of finding out."
"I see," The dragon said after a second. Altoryu seemed to think for a bit, while paying attention to the teacher at the same time. He then spoke to Nokemy again. "So what are your friends like?"
"They're tons of fun, and we're a really unique diverse group too," Nokemy explained, "Some are intelligent chess masters, while other are artistic or athletic. Everyone's friendly and very open minded, to a lot of things."
"Sounds pretty good," Altoryu replied, "when do I get to meet them?"
"I'll introduce you to them at lunch," the monkey replied.

The usual class routine was quick to get back into, well, for me anyway. While everyone else was snoozing off their 2 AM lifestyle from the break, I was busily paying attention to the teacher. Even Morrell couldn't keep his eyes open, and I tried hard enough to make sure he went to bed early the night before. I guess maybe he just stayed awake in bed or something, but I would never know. My schedule didn't change much this semester, due to the fact that I wanted to take care of my requirements before taking on all the electives I wanted.
When I walked to my second class with Adair, I spotted Nokemy walking down the opposite end with a huge smile on his face. Obviously, he was happy about something, or he was planning something evil. It was always one of the two possibilities, with anyone in the group.
When we got to lunch that day though, all of us met together, to discuss any interesting facts about each other's winter break. It was Nokemy though who brought an interesting new item to the table. He was a tall, very well built silver and golden dragon. He seriously looked like he spent most of his life in the gym.
"Hey Nokemy, who's this?" Jason asked, while eating the sandwich his mom made for him.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Altoryu," Nokemy said, "Altoryu's a new guy from Australia, who's interested in being a part of our group."
"Sounds like fun," Morrell said with a hearty chuckle, "so, Altoryu, you look like you enjoy working out." I gave him a quick tap on the stomach, signaling that he was going too strong on the dragon.
"Well," the dragon began, "I do find it fun, but I like other things too."
"Care to elaborate?" I asked in interest.
"Well, I like rock music," he said. I suddenly liked him a lot more right then and there.
"Same here," I said, "I'm a huge fan of it." We got to talk for a few while we all ate, learning more and more about the interesting dragon. I already established in my mind that he was gay, especially since Nokemy was the one to introduce us. I was also pretty sure that the way Morrell hasn't been able to stop staring at him that he was interested. Well I guess I couldn't blame him, seeing as I was taking interest as well. After a while the football coach interrupted us.
"Hey Monteque," he began, "I need to see you for a minute."
"Ok coach," Morrell got up and gave me a quick hug, "don't go wandering into trouble he said."
"Well, it's about time I head into chess club anyway," I replied, "it's time for a meeting." My lovely orca nodded and jogged off. The Lucian Snow and Equinox, Adair, Jake, Alduin, and myself all got up to head to Sundin's class, where chess club was always held. When we got there, Sundin was shifting through a pile of numerous different chess books.
"Trying to cram chess studies in?" I asked with a smile.
"These books aren't for me," Coach began, "they're for you guys, to study for state."
"Please sir, I have three times as many books as that, plus I've read all the ones the St. George Chess Center holds," I replied kindly.
"Well then everyone else needs to read them," he said, "I would love nothing more than to see West High School taken down."
"They've won the state championships for over 12 years now," Alduin explained, "And they even took a national title once. Their best players hail from three different families. The Olsen-Mills, the Milkes, and the Chens."
"I think I've heard about them, I may have even played one or two of them in past tournaments," I said. Everyone else looked at us in curiosity. Coach Sundin decided to explain the story.
"The Olsen-Mills have had only one player from their family, but she is not to be taken lightly. Jamie Olsen-Mills has pulled upset prizes from tournament for years, smacking down players rated higher than her on a daily basis. The Milkes had only a father and son relationship with chess. Adam Milke, the son, is a very aggressive and arrogant player. He crushes his opponents with his unfriendly ego, and wild chess tactics. The worst of the bunch is the Chens. The Chens are a family that has devoted their lives to chess. Every single one of them plays chess, studies it for hours on end in the day, and has even come to the point of it being a religion to them. If someone in the family didn't want to play chess, they were severely punished. Their strongest player is their oldest child, Tony Chen. Tony was once revered as the most powerful player of his age group in the country, and once placed in the top 200 child players of the world. Their other three kids are almost as impressive."
"If all of them are playing that good and are on one team," Equinox began, "how can we hope to beat them?"
"We'll just have to practice as hard as we can," I said joyfully. "Once we do that, then all we have to do is just show up and do our best. That's all we really have to do, just keep trying our hardest. In the end, it's the experience we get from the challenges that make it worth while. In my opinion, winning and losing is for suckers. If you're not having fun, what's the point?" Everyone seemed to think for a second.
"I like the way you think," Jake said, "we shouldn't have to make a big deal out of this. We should just keep learning at our own pace."
"Alright then," Snow said, "that leaves just one question. When is the state championships?"
"It's exactly one month from now," he said, "you better get started." We all gave a shout of encouragement, and settled down for our usual chess games with about ten minutes left of lunch.

Meanwhile, Morrell was just getting out of his coach's office, and preparing to head for his next class, when he was stopped by a certain female. He frowned.
"Do you want something?" He asked.
"I just came to give a message," she said. She was a wolf, roughly the same size as Gloria, which meant she was a little small for a wolf.
"About what Mariella?" Morrell asked, keeping himself calm, "is this about Gloria?" She nodded.
"She's looking for you," she said, "she said it's important." The orca sighed.
"Ok look," he explained, "I know she likes me, and I'm not trying to be rude here. But I like Ryan and I'm his boyfriend. So please, tell her that I'm taken for me ok? There's plenty of other people for her to see." Morrell turned to leave, but Mariella interrupted.
"I know that," She said, "I can see better than her ego can. But, she is my friend. Therefore, if you end up hurting her, I will come after you." Morrell knew exactly what was going on here, but didn't feel like expressing his thoughts. Instead he just walked off, leaving the wolf to her own thoughts.

The craziness of chess made the rest of the week fly all too quickly. Eventually, we reached the first weekend of the semester, and we were all too happy. Morrell and I decided to kick off the Friday night by inviting Altoryu on a date with us. He was a little bit astranged first, knowing about our relationship, but decided that it was ok when we said so and came along.
The dragon got really comfortable really quickly with us, and was able to become more open, we even found out some of his favorite fetishes, with which knowing Morrell, I knew for sure that he was going to make it reality, one way or another.
"Let's at least enjoy dinner for now," I suggested, "taking a nice bite out of the steak I ordered."
"Alright then," Morrell said, "but can we save room for dessert?" He giggled when he saw the dragon blush a light pink. I smiled, thinking that was a cute look for him.
Morrell, shifted his thoughts suddenly, when he saw Mariella and Gloria out of the window on the opposite side of the street. They seemed to be talking and walking together.
‘They do look like a good match,' He thought, taking another quick sip of the soup he ordered, and shifting his thoughts back on the two of us.
