#3 of The Tale Of Lyncelia

Well, it certainly has been awhile hasn't it? I finally have plenty of free time, so new installments should not take me nearly as long as they have been lately. I'm happy to end that horrible cliff hanger, and i hope you enjoy this chapter ^^.

Again, thanks alot to 3nigmax for beta reading, cleaning, and contributions :D.

***************************************************************************

After leaping out of Wayne's window, Lyn took off toward the forest, scared out of her mind. ‘I can't believe that happened...I gotta get home, mom and dad will know what to do.' She thought as she made her way back to her den. "Uhh..." she winced and stopped running as a sharp pain came from her side. She grabbed it, and her paw came back covered in blood. As she looked down at her wound, she saw quite a large gash across her side, along with a few other minor cuts all around her.

As she plucked a shard of glass out from a cut on her arm, she began hearing a commotion coming from behind her. She once again took off at an incredible speed, trying her best to ignore the pain, tears streaming from her eyes. After a moment of running, her vision began to get blurry, and she was starting to trip around on the forest floor. She dropped to 4 limbs and continued running as fast as she could to her den.

Finally, she arrived, and her mother ran over to her with a very worried look. "What happened to you? Are you okay?" The mother asked as she knelt down and grabbed Lyn's arms. Her father hurried to them and stood next to them, worry also apparent on his face.

"I...I went into the human's territory...*sniff*...I was with a friend, and he's really nice...but everyone else thinks I'm a monster and chased me away...*sniff*...I jumped out of his home and got covered in sharp stuff..." she said while she cried, using her mother for balance.

While her mother began licking her wound, her father knelt down to her and pulled a piece of glass from her fur. He was a bit more educated about the human world and knew what glass was. ‘She must have jumped through a window...which means she was in trouble.' He thought as he got up and sniffed the air. As he got a whiff of human scent, he looked to his mate. "Meridian, we need to go, now!" He yelled as they heard a noise approaching them, fast.

He picked up Lyn and cradled her in his arms as he quickly took off, closely followed by Meridian. They ran for a few minutes, with the father leading them. He knew this forest well, but it was hard to tell exactly where he was going while running so fast, especially with his attention on Lyn. He took a moment to inspect her. She looked dazed, and he was hoping that she hadn't lost too much blood. He gave her wound a lick to clean it a bit.

"JACK!" His attention snapped back up as Meridian yelled his name, and he skidded to a halt, almost running into the base of a cliff. "Oh crap..." he said as he turned around, still hearing the humans approaching.

"What do we do...?" Meridian asked, staring into Jack's eyes. He looked ahead, hearing them get closer, then down at Lyn, who now had her eyes closed, breathing heavily. "Jack...?" She asked, this time with more urgency. He looked at her, then back to Lyn, a single tear forming in his eye. "I'm not gonna let you die...you have too much life ahead of you..." he whispered down to her.

He then looked back to Meridian, and held out Lyn for her to take. She gave him a confused look, but took her. "What are you..." She said before he cut her off.

"You take Lyncelia up this cliff. It isn't too high, it shouldn't take long. I'll stay here and draw their attention..." She stared at him, her eyes watering as she realized what he had planned.

"But... what about you...?" she asked in a barely audible voice.

"Don't worry about me, just make sure that you and Lyncelia stay safe. After I see that you are up, I will make my way to you after losing the humans..." She was about to protest, but backed down, giving a firm nod. He took a step to her, and tightly embraced her, careful to avoid squeezing Lyn. He lightly pushed away and brought his muzzle to hers for a kiss.

"Hey! I see something up ahead!"

Upon hearing this, Jack quickly broke the kiss. "Go now!" Without another word, she ran to the cliff, put Lyn on her shoulders, and started her climb. Jack ran toward the voice he heard, hoping they would see him and not notice Meridian.

He jumped and landed right in front of a human, who fell back on his ass, trying to scream but not quite finding his voice. After a moment of shock, he slowly lifted his rifle and aimed at the lycanthrope in front of him. Jack didn't take kindly to this, and swiped his claws forward, swatting the gun out of his grasp and into some bushes. It was then that his voice decided to work, as he screamed out "I FOUND IT! HELP ME!!!" Right away, Jack heard multiple noises coming from all around him.

‘Now that I have their attention, it's time to get them away from here.' He thought as he leapt onto a tree branch, and began to nimbly leap from tree to tree, away from the cliff.

Once he got a suitable distance away, he decided that he should find a way around to meet up with Meridian. As he fell down to the ground from a branch, he sniffed the air to pick up on his mate's scent.

Wayne's father slowly brought up his rifle, careful not to make any noise in the bush he was hiding in. He looked down the sights, and saw the back of the creature's head, who seemed to be smelling the air for something. Taking in a breath, he slowly pulled back the bolt, which let out a barely audible "click" as the bullet was brought into the chamber.

Jack was still trying to locate Meridian's scent. With so many human scents, along with the forests natural smells in the air, it was proving difficult to isolate hers among them all. Just then, his ear twitched as he heard a slight "click" coming from behind him. He waited a split second, then quickly back flipped toward the location of the sound, and kicked the rifle out of the humans grasp upon landing. Not giving him time to react, Jack ran off.

Weaving through groups of humans in the area, he found himself back at the cliff. He smelled Meridian's scent coming from above, and looked up. She peeked down at him, barely poking her head out. He sighed with relief.

‘Thank heavens she's safe. Now all I gotta do is' *BLAM* "GRAH!!" He fell to one knee. He tried to get up, but found that his left leg was in unbearable pain. He looked down to see blood gushing from a hole in his thigh.

Wayne's father stepped though the surrounding bushes, smoke emanating from the barrel of his rifle. He made his way to the creature before him. As he got close, Jack lunged at him. The human lifted his rifle and fired once more.

*BLAM*

Jack fell back, grasping at his chest, now finding it hard to breathe. As he looked into the sky, he barely made out Meridian's face, tears streaming down her eyes. However, it wasn't long before the barrel of a rifle blocked his view, along with a few more that showed up. He let out a single tear of his own as he howled to the sky, his final farewell to his family.

*HOOOOOWWLLL....BLAM BLAM, BALM* echoed throughout the forest as the three men above the downed lycan all fired down upon him.

"I GOT IT!" Wayne's father yelled into the forest to signal everyone to gather. Meridian closed her eyes and looked away, silently weeping. After a few seconds, she looked to where Lyn was laying down, unconscious. She looked back to where Jack lay one more time, before turning, picking up Lyn, and slowly walking into the night.

************************************************************************

Wayne ran as fast as he could to where he heard his father yell, tears still streaming from his eyes. He couldn't even think, all he could focus on was getting to where his friend could possibly be hurt, or worse.

As he winded through a few trees and leapt over bushes, he saw a crowd all gathered ahead near the base of a cliff. He pushed and shoved his way through them, fearing the worst after catching a glimpse of a furred limb through the crowd. After finally making it to the front, he gasped as new tears began to form in his eyes, staring at the bloody body.

‘LYN! Oh my God...its all my fault...I didn't mean for...huh?' he thought as he got a good look at the body. It was easily two or three times as big as Lyn was. ‘This...isn't Lyn...' Before he could think further, he heard his father's voice as he began to talk to the crowd.

"Great job everyone, but this isn't over. The beast in my house was smaller this one, which means there was probably a whole family. Obviously we cant let any of these monsters get away. I think we should get the FBI or maybe even the army in on this. Help me drag the body back to town for evidence."

The Crowd roared its approval, and they gathered up the corpse to head back.

"Wayne...? What are you doing here son? You come to see your old man take on the monster that attacked you?" Wayne winced as he heard his father call Lyn a monster. Still, he knew better than to tell his father the truth now, and just played along, nodding his head. "Well, don't worry son. Now those things know not to mess with us. Let's go home." He said, then they began their slow walk back. Wayne could only hope that Lyn was okay, and was extremely sorry for what happened to her family.

‘I can't believe this is happening. Lyn, please be okay, and please forgive me...This is all my fault. If I didn't bring you home none of this would have happened...*sniff*... I should have just stayed safe and kept you out of danger...I just don't know what to do now...how can I fix this...?' Upon finding no answer to his question, he kept his thoughts silent for the rest of the way home.

Thinking about his situation did nothing but make him sad. All he could do was hope that Lyn was fine, and that he might be able to see her again some day to apologize.

Once they finally got home, Wayne went straight to his room. The fact that his father had the body brought to his house didn't help ease Wayne's mind, so he wanted to avoid seeing it. However, before he drifted off to sleep, he got up to use the restroom. As soon as he left his room, he heard voices from downstairs. He silently crept to the stairwell so he could eavesdrop on what was going on.

"...certainly is a shocking discovery. And you said that this thing was hostile?" said an unfamiliar voice.

"Yes. Even its young are violent. This ones child attempted to attack my son in our own house." said a more familiar voice, belonging to his father.

Yet another unfamiliar voice joined the conversation. "Well don't worry sir, we will take care of this. We'll get the FBI here immediately, and let our government know what happened here today. Rest easy, this will all be taken care of."

Just then, he felt a hand grab him from behind. He quickly turned to see who it was, and saw his mother looking at him with a worried look. "Are you feeling okay honey...? You have gone through a lot today. That thing didn't hurt you did it?" she asked as she knelt down to give him a long hug.

"No mom, I'm fine...really..." he replied, waiting for his mother to release him.

"Thank goodness...don't worry, those people downstairs are gonna investigate this, or at least call in some people to do it. You're safe now. Now get to bed, you need to rest." She said as she finally let him go and went downstairs. Wayne watched his mom make her way to the room below, and looked over the railing. He got a glimpse of a man dressed in a strange black uniform and had what looked like a gas mask over his head. As the man turned to leave, Wayne strained to make out the letters on his vest. Sadly, he didn't have time to see them.

He decided that all he could do was try to relax, and hope that everything turned out all right. He walked into his room after using the restroom and plopped onto his bed.

‘Lyn...I hope I get to see you again some day...but it's not safe here for you anymore...just please be safe...I'm sorry...for everything...' he thought as he got comfortable. He turned his pillow so the tear-soaked side was on bottom, laid his head down, and closed his eyes to go to sleep, in an effort to avoid his painful thoughts.

That night, and many nights after that, he dreamt about finally getting to see Lyn again, and being able to apologize for everything that happened. Sometimes they were nightmares, depicting Lyn coming back for revenge. However, the majority of them were good dreams, where he was forgiven and they resumed being friends. Occasionally he even got a weird dream, where in the end he saw himself and Lyn holding hands and walking along a trail. He didn't know what to make of these, and just regarded them as what they were, weird dreams.

Although he recovered from his depression with time, he always kept himself prepared for a reunion with his childhood friend, and never lost hope... He knew that he would see her again some day, but there was just no telling how long it would be until that day came...
