Unusual Love #14 (Updated and Finale)
#16 of Unusual Love
Sam led Lucy through the city streets back in America, but she still had no idea where she was. They were Wearing clothing that could only be described as ninja gear when they climbed the stairs of a tall building still in construction that had a sky bridge that connected to the target's building. They went one level above the bridge and Sam set down a heavy case, "Alright, here's where we can retreat to. If I say so, I need you to run here and open this box immediately, understand?" Lucy nodded, her mask covering all but her eyes, "Good. Keep that knife on you, but don't use it unless it is absolutely necessary. I'll handle as much as possible."
"Uh... Sam? Why do you have your hand on your sword?"
He smiled, or at least, Lucy thought he did, "I have a gut feeling that this one is going to be a fighter. Also... no. I can't tell you that. Let's move. We don't have all night. And I need something to eat."
Lucy was a little nervous, since he wouldn't give any details to her about what they were about to face, but she trusted him since this was what he did best. They silently dashed through the building down to the bridge, and he dashed faster and quieter than anything should be able to. Not only that, he was crouched down low enough so that nothing could see him through the glass. Lucy ducked down low, but she just wasn't as fast. Still, she made it to the other side and Sam ran to the side of a door with a light underneath, and Lucy took to the other side.
She caught a brief glimpse of his eyes darting to the door, then back to her. He signaled with his fingers that there was at least two people inside the room. He then started to count down, never removing his hand from his sword, then he kicked in the door and they ran in together. Lucy was a little thrown off when she only saw one person in the room, a young wolf, about 16 years old, wearing two pairs of brass knuckles, and facing the door at the end of the room "I've been waiting for you, Ronin. I knew you were coming, so I set up this little trap for you." He snapped his fingers and about 20 men dropped from through the drop ceiling and surrounded the couple. Lucy went back to back with Sam.
"You know, I thought this was going to be a trap. How pathetic. Oh, and when I held up two fingers, I meant twenty. If it was just two, I wouldn't have bothered. Not like this will be a challenge anyway. "Oy, Mark!" The wolf turned around as Lucy Peaked around Sam's side, "Let her leave, she has nothing to do with this."
"An assassin is nothing more than a killer, I won't let either of you leave." Lucy was terrified.
Sam sighed, then pulled off Lucy's mask and his own, "I know this is your uncle and everything, but you wouldn't harm a lady, would you? Besides, a real man only needs himself to stop an intruder, not an army. Let her leave, and I'll give you a free shot." Mark was troubled at the sight of Lucy, then waved to his men to let her go. She put up a fight, "Go. I'll be fine, trust me. Wouldn't want you to get hurt here, who knows what these freaks would do to you. Now run." Lucy started to shed tears as she ran to the hideout. Sam was alone and there was nothing she could do to help. As she ran up to the box, she was crying uncontrollably as she watched the room.
Everyone was trying to hit Sam with swords, baseball bats, furniture, and just about anything they could get their hands on. Sam looked as though he was dancing, parrying the occasional attack with his sword's sheath. He was toying with them, but he was still only human. He would tire eventually. "He can't do this alone. I... I have to help him." She stood up and was about to leave when she noticed a note on the box. She wiped the tears into her fur and started to read it:
"Hey. I assume right now you are crying. Good, that means that you are safe from harm. I need you to open the box and pick up Orchid. She'll be a good companion. Also, don't aim for anyone in the room I am in. Aim for the target in the next room. I'll know when the deed is done."
"Orchid?" Lucy opened the box and inside was a beautiful sniper rifle, that was a white color that faded into a soft pink near the butt. Inside the box were some simple instructions, "Uh... long shots exhale, short ones inhale. It's loaded, so aim for the spot behind the head, you have to see through the head to make the shot. Good luck. Huh... I don't know what to say." Lucy picked up the rifle, which was surprisingly light. She stuck it on the window, as if someone was telling her to, and she took aim. Everything felt so natural to her, and her only thoughts were that she needed to ask her mom some questions. She saw the wolf, sitting in a chair, smiling at what his nephew and hired goons were doing. Lucy didn't want to have to kill anyone, but it was the only way to help Sam. She took a breath, then let it out as she fired.
A direct hit to the head. She quickly turned the sights to Sam, and time seemed to stop. He eyes quickly glanced down at the door, then back up to the fight. He flicked his katana out of it's sheath and smiled. He drew it and spun around 360 degrees, bringing the sword parallel to it's sheath again. He cut down seven of the men in a second. Mark pointed at him, and the 13 remaining charged. Unfortunately for them, Sam swung his sword in maneuvers so complex, not even Lucy's eyes could adjust and so she only saw a blur. She could only imagine what they saw. Mark was the last one and Sam returned to a defensive stance, ready to counter any attack.
This time, however, Lucy had a reason to hurt Mark. She had tried to kill Sam, then her, then Sam again. Sure, he used to be a friend, but something Sam told her once made her take action. She somehow knew how load another bullet, then took aim. She pulled the trigger, and he was no more. Lucy then lowered the rifle and sighed. She looked for Sam, but he was nowhere to be found, "Hey, interesting choice."
"Ahh!"
Sam warned her to be quiet, "Come on, we gotta get out of here. Pack it up, our ride leaves soon. I'm thinking Chinese tonight. How about you?" He had just killed all those people, and he was still thinking about food. As odd as it was, Lucy could only think that he was probably the most reliable person in the world.
After a hasty retreat, a smooth car ride, a plane trip complete with all the lo mein you could possibly want, they were back in Japan at Haruka's house. In the car, they were allowed to change into more appropriate clothing for the occasion. Lucy was provided with a beautiful wedding dress, made from the finest silk in the world, which was believable considering who it came from. However, Sam took a little prodding to change his clothing. He eventually changed into some sort of family clothing, which was a tradition. The assassin was to wear a loose set of clothing, made from very fine silk which resembled the ninja gear, but it was clearly only ceremonial. There were stripes and badges that signified the work he had done for the family. They walked into the house, greeted by rows on onlookers, made of friends, family, and people who just wanted to see what was happening. Lucy saw her mother near the entrance and smiled to her.
As they entered the house, it was decorated in a forest green and a bright pink, Sam and Lucy's favorite colors respectively. Inside, Haruka and Kane greeted them with a warm embrace, "Congratulations!" Kane yelled, "You two are now married!" Sam shrugged his shoulders as Lucy looked at him, asking silently what Kane meant.
He leaned in, "Sorry, but if you didn't already know this, I haven't been married before. I guess the killing was the official ceremony. Uh... do you want me to kiss you?"
Lucy had always pictured her dream wedding, and this was about the exact opposite. Instead of roses, a church, a priest, there was murder, confusion, and a foreign country. Mary, the maid ran down the stairs towards Lucy, who kissed Sam, because, well, they did just get married. "Yay! I have a girl to talk to that is my own age! Yay!"
Sam gave a cheery "Ohayo Gozaimasu." (Good Morning)
Mary gave an elaborate wave, much happier that Lucy was a part of the family now, "Ohayo! Lucy was jumping up and down with Mary, overwhelmed by the excitement she brought to the room. "I can't believe you two are married! This is wonderful! Hang on!" She skipped to the front doors and let the people flood in. Congratulations came from every angle, and they made Lucy's head spin. Sam silently grabbed her arm and performed some crazy acrobatics with Lucy in tow to break free from the crowds.
She was out in the open when Sam said, "Run!" Lucy did as she was told, and she did it with a smile, however, she was wearing a wedding dress. Sam quickly noticed and picked her up, then tore off into the house. Lucy and Sam laughed together as the sounds faded and they were free. Lucy got down then took Sam's hand, "Huh?"
"Come on, Mary showed me somewhere nobody looks." She led the partial owner of the house through his house to places he didn't know about in his house. There was a section of wall that Lucy pushed out of the way and crawled inside. There was a little crawlspace that Lucy led Sam through until they were in a hidden room, complete with a bed a decorated by Haruka herself. Lucy saw a concerned look, "What is it?"
"Ugh... I hope they changed the sheets."
.........................................
"And... I think that's all I'm going to tell you. You are getting older, but you are still a child. Now it's time for bed, you know how we get cranky in the morning." Lucy told her daughter.
"Wait, I don't think I want to know any more, but how did you know you were in love with dad?" Ivy asked innocently.
Lucy smiled, "Don't worry, you won't mistake the feeling. Now rest, I've told you enough to give you nightmares.
